<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Phytoremediation is a plant-based, environment-friendly, and cost-effective technology that can be potentially used to remediate contaminated media. This study was conducted to evaluate the phytoextraction and phytostabilization potential, two common techniques of phytoremediation, of 21 plant species growing naturally at the largest tungsten (W) mine in Vietnam—the second largest production of W in the world. The average concentrations in different soil fractions were in the following order: residue > organically complexed, Fe- and Mn oxide-bound > carbonate bound > exchangeable. The total concentrations of arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), and zinc (Zn) in the soil varied by 34–3390, 4.87–81.6, 14.3–2080, and 21.9–370 mg/kg, respectively. The concentrations of As, Cd, Cu, and Zn in the shoots ranged 0.71–2400, 0.05–5.55, 4.81–249, and 13.3–380 mg/kg-DW, respectively. The concentrations of As and Cd in all soil samples and Cu in 70% of soil samples collected around the mine fluctuated within 2–227, 3–54, and up to 21-folds higher than the maximum allowable limit for agricultural soils in Vietnam (QCVN 03-MT:2015/BTNMT). The results indicated that hyperaccumulation levels (mg/kg-DW) were obtained for only As in <I>Pityrogramma calomelanos</I> (2400) and <I>Pteris vittata</I> L. (1860). Based on the recorded hyperaccumulation levels, translocation and accumulation factors, biomass, and fast growth of these plants, <I>P. calomelanos</I> and <I>P. vittata</I> were considered to be promising native plants for the phytoextraction of As contaminated soils. <I>Bidens pilosa</I> L. also has great potential for phytostabilization of mining soils contaminated with As and heavy metals.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Soils near multi-metal (W–F–Cu–Au–Bi) mine were contaminated with As, Cd, Cu. </LI> <LI> Arsenic in shoots were in order of Fern > Monocotyledonae > Dicotyledonae. </LI> <LI> <I>Pityrogramma calomelanos</I> and <I>Pteris vittata</I> L. suggested for phytoextraction of As. </LI> <LI> <I>Bidens pilosa</I> L. suggested for the phytostabilization of mining contaminated soils. </LI> </UL> </P>
Comparing Cycle Times of Advanced Quay Cranes in Container Terminals

The amount of international trade is rapidly increasing as a result of globalization. It is well known that as the size of a vessel becomes larger, the transportation cost per container decreases. That is, the economy-of-scale holds even in maritime container transportation. As a result, the sizes of containerships have been steadily increased for reducing transportation costs. In addition, various handling technologies and handling equipment have been introduced to increase the throughput capacities of container terminals. Quay crane (QC) that carries out load/unload operations plays the most important role among various handling equipment in terminals. Two typical examples of advanced QC concepts proposed so far are double trolley QC and supertainer QC. This paper suggests a method of estimating the expected value and the standard deviation of the container handling cycle time of the advanced QCs that involve several handling components which move at the same time. Numerical results obtained by the proposed estimation procedure are compared with those obtained by simulation studies. In order to demonstrate the advantage of advanced QCs, we compared their expected cycle times with those of a conventional QC.

Two new wide-bandgap conjugated copolymers, T-3MT and 2T-3MT, containing methyl-3-thiophenecarboxylate (3MT) as a weak accepting unit and indacenodithiophene (IDT) or indacenodithienothiophene (IDTT) as ladder-type donating units, were synthesized through Stille coupling polymerization. The effects of the IDT and IDTT units on the physical, optical, and electrochemical properties of these copolymers were investigated. Polymer solar cells (PSCs) were constructed using these new copolymers and different acceptor molecules for inter-comparative analysis of their performance. The PSCs bearing the as-cast active layers with 2,2'-((2Z,2'Z)-((4,4,9,9-tetrakis(4-hexylphenyl)-4,9-dihydro-s-indaceno[1,2-b:5,6-b'] dithiophene-2,7-diyl)bis(methanylylidene))bis(3-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-indene-2,1-diylidene))dimalononitrile (IM-IDT) displayed the highest PCEs of 3.78−3.96%, mainly owing to the predominant face-on orientation of blend #ilm, and the relatively high open circuit voltage exceeding 1.0 V.
Impact of Vocational Training on Wages of Ethnic Minority Labors in Vietnam

This research investigates the impact of vocational training on wages of ethnic minority labors in emerging countries; Vietnam is the case study. The study uses secondary data from 2014 to 2018 collected through Vietnam Household Living Standards Surveys (VHLSS) conducted by the General Statistics Office. In order to analyze the impact of vocational training on wages of ethnic minority areas in Vietnam, this research creates ethnic area variables. According to Vietnamese regulations, ethnic areas are communes of 51 different provinces, inhabited by ethnic minority people. The statistics from VHLSS in 2018, show that the proportion of labors of working age with a certificate was 22.5%. The research employs Heckman Sample Selection Model to estimate the impact of vocation training on wage of labors in ethnic minority areas. The results show that vocational training plays a crucial role in improving the wages of ethnic minorities and has a positive impact. However, apart from the achieved outcomes, vocational training and job creation for ethnic minorities are not without limitations and shortcomings. Based on the findings, some recommendations to ethnic minority labors, enterprises and the Government are proposed to encourage participation in vocational training for the purpose of promoting the efficiency of the labor market.

<P>We report on the design and synthesis of a new discotic liquid crystalline (LC) semiconducting material based on a triphenylene core. The molecule is readily soluble in common organic solvents to exhibit self-organizing long fiber structures with supramolecularly ordered columnar stacks that lie parallel to the substrate. Compared to all the previously reported triphenylene derivatives, this molecule has a relatively lower band gap energy (<I>E</I><SUB>g</SUB> = 2.53 eV), which makes it suitable for electronic and optoelectronic applications.</P>

<P><B>Highly conjugated porphyrin derivatives, H<SUB>2</SUB>TP and ZnTP, are synthesized.</B> J‐aggregations of the H‐aggregated dimeric porphyrin pairs are clearly observed by their single crystal structures that facilitate slip‐stacked charge transport phenomenon. In particular, their SC‐FETs show the highest field‐effect mobilities of 0.85–2.90 cm<SUP>2</SUP> V<SUP>−1</SUP>s<SUP>−1</SUP>. Furthermore, the ZnTP‐based OPT displays a dramatic photoinduced current enhancement with a high photoresponsivity of 22 000 A W<SUP>−1</SUP> under a very low light intensity (5.6 m W cm<SUP>−2</SUP>).</P>
New π-extended triphenylene-based organic semiconductors in field-effect transistors

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We demonstrated the synthesis of two new solution-processed triphenylene-based semiconductors and characterized their physical, optical, and electrochemical properties. Both were intriguingly capable of producing smooth films and high-quality microcrystalline objects. The single-crystal-based field-effect transistors (FETs) using these semiconductors displayed a maximum carrier mobility of ∼0.03cm<SUP>2</SUP> V<SUP>−1</SUP> s<SUP>−1</SUP> and a high on/off current ratio of ∼10<SUP>3</SUP>. Notably, the mobilities of the single-crystal-based FETs were measured to be two orders of magnitude greater than those of the thin-film transistors.
