This work was conducted to identify mungbean genotypesshowing yield stability and resistance to mungbeanyellow mosaic virus (MYMV) disease. Sixteen genotypes were evaluated in a randomized complete block design with two replications for two years (2011 and 2012) at three locations (Gazipur, Ishurdi and Madaripur) of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute. An analysis of variance exhibited significant effects of genotype (G), environment (E), and genotype × environment (G×E) on grain yield. Among eight agronomiccharacters, the principal component 1 (PC1) was always higher than the PC2. Considering G×E interaction, BM6 was the best genotype at all three locationsin both years. Based on grain yield and stability performance, BM6 ranked first while the worst performinggenotypes were BM1 and G10. Based on discriminationand representation, Gazipur was identified as an ideal environment for these mungbeans. Relationshipbetween soil-plant analysis developments (SPAD) value was positive with yield but negative with MYMV severity. BM6, G1 and G2 were considered as promisingsources of resistance for low disease score and stable response across the environments. The environment proved to have an influence on MYMV infection under natural infestation. A positive correlation was observed between disease score and the temperature under naturalgrowing condition.

The effect of compositional variation on the structure and magnetic properties of Ni-Mg ferrites with compositions Ni1-xMgxFe2O4 for [x = 0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, and 1.0], prepared by a conventional double sintering ceramic technique, sintered at 1350 ο C for 4.5 hours were investigated. The structural characterization of the samples has been performed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). X-ray diffraction results confirmed the single-phase spinel structures of all the ferrite samples. The lattice parameters have been found to increase linearly with increasing Mg concentration, obeying Vegard’s law. The bulk density and X-ray density of the samples decrease monotonically with increasing Mg content. SEM micrographs exhibit a decrease in grain size with increasing Mg content. The Curie temperature of Ni-Mg ferrites was found to decrease with an increase in the Mg2+ content due to the reduction of A-B exchange interactions. The complex initial permeability is found to decrease as the Mg content increases which is consistent with the variation of density with Mg ions.

Scouring is necessary for the loom state jute fabrics in order to make them suitable for dyeing and finishing byimproving their wettability by removing non-cellulosic matters from the fiber. Scouring is carried out at the boil with acocktail of caustic soda, detergent, and wetting agent, and the process is energy-intensive. In this work, bio-scouring of jute fabrics was carried out using four kinds of enzymes, Esperase 4.0T (protease), xylanase, and Alcalase 2.5 L (alkaline protease) in a combination with cellulase. The performance of scouring of jute fabrics scoured with various enzymes was evaluated by measuring their whiteness index, hydrophilicity, wettability, and dyeability, and was compared with jute fabrics scoured by the traditional alkali scouring method. The effect of bio-scouring on the weight loss and tensile strength loss was assessed. Of the enzymes investigated, the combined treatment with 50/50 mixture of Alcalase and cellulase provided the best performance in terms of improvement in whiteness index, hydrophilicity, wettability, and dyeability, but also caused the highest loss in tensile strength. The conventional alkali scouring caused higher weight and tensile strength loss compared to enzymatic scouring treatments investigated, but produced poor whiteness index and also poor color strength when the treated jute fabrics were dyed with a direct dye and two reactive dyes. The developed treatment could be used in industry as an ecofriendly bio-scouring process.

The research assesses the impact of a digital procurement (e-purjee) system for sugarcane growers in Bangladesh. The system itself is simple, transmitting purchase orders to local farmers via SMS text notifi cation. It replaces a traditional paper-based system fraught with low reliability and delivery delays. Applying expected value theory, and using decision tree representations to depict growers’ decision-making complexity in an information-asymmetric environment, we compute outcomes for the strategies and sub-strategies of ICT vs. traditional paper-based order management from the sugarcane growers’ perspective. The study results show that the digital procurement system outperforms the paper-based system by tangibly reducing growers’ economic losses. The digital system also appears to benefit growers non-monetarily, because of reduced uncertainty and a higher level of perceived fairness. Sugarcane growers appear to value the non-monetary benefi ts even higher than the economic advantages of the e-purjee system.

In this study, authors aimed to predict the gender of a customer with face mask to manage the customer data, targeted advertisement, and future of retail. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic situation, a customer must wear a face mask, avoid contacts with store staffs and should stay for short period of times while shopping. Smart store can meet the requirements by knowing the customer gender to find the right item. Predicting gender from faces with mask is a perplexing task due to two main reasons: 1) the lack of large benchmark datasets of masked faces, and 2) the deficiency of facial cues from the masked regions. Faces in the unconstraint environment have various orientations and occlusion degrees, where no less than one part of each face is occluded by mask. The traditional machine learning approaches are suffering in performance with the heterogeneity of the images in the non-benchmark dataset. This research proposes an automatic gender prediction system deploying deep learning networks; GoogleNet and ResNet50 those are pretrained with huge amount of image data. The extensive experiments demonstrate a noteworthy prediction accuracy (83%) even though the amount of available masked face data is very limited. Furthermore, this is the first work of gender prediction with the real masked face dataset heretofore.

Based on experimental impact testing data, due to changing of velocity and mass of the impactor simultaneously under constant impact energy, crashworthiness of polyurethane foam has been observed. Dynamic tests were carried out in an instrumented impact-testing machine. Observation made mean that, densification strain appears later and the net amount of useful absorbed energy increases with the velocity of the impactor, though impact energy is constant. Some general, quantitative conclusions and decisions of the crashworthiness of polyurethane foam at constant impact energy have been formulated.
