Monitor of All-sky X-ray Image (MAXI) is a Japanese X-ray all-sky surveyer mounted on the International Space Station (ISS). It has been scanning the whole sky since 2009 during every 92-minute ISS rotation. X-ray transients are quickly found by the real-time nova-search program. As a result, MAXI has issued 133 Astronomer's Telegrams and 44 Gamma-ray burst Coordinated Networks so far. MAXI has discovered six new black holes (BH) in 4.5 years. Long-term behaviors of the MAXI BHs can be classified into two types by their outbursts; a fast-rise exponential-decay type and a fast-rise flat-top one. The slit camera is suitable for accumulating data over a long time. MAXI issued a 37-month catalog containing 500 sources above a ~0.6 mCrab detection limit at 4-10 keV in the region ${\mid}{b}{\mid}$ > $10^{\circ}$. The SSC instrument utilizing an X-ray CCD has detected diffuse soft X-rays extending over a large solid angle, such as the Cygnus super bubble. MAXI/SSC has also detcted a Ne emission line from the rapid soft X-ray nova MAXI J0158-744. The overall shapes of outbursts in Be X-ray binaries (BeXRB) are precisely observed with MAXI/GSC. BeXRB have two kinds of outbursts, a normal outburst and a giant one. The peak dates of the subsequent giant outbursts of A0535+26 repeated with a different period than the orbital one. The Be stellar disk is considered to either have a precession motion or a distorted shape. The long-term behaviors of low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXB) containing weakly magnetized neutron stars are investigated. Transient LMXBs (Aql X-1 and 4U 1608-52) repeated outbursts every 200-1000 days, which is understood by the limit-cycle of hydrogen ionization states in the outer accretion disk. A third state (very dim state) in Aql X-1 and 4U 1608-52 was interpreted as the propeller effect in the unified picture of LMXB. Cir X-1 is a peculiar source in the sense that its long-term behavior is not like typical LMXBs. The luminosity sometimes decreases suddenly at periastron. It might be explained by the stripping of the outer accretion disk by a clumpy stellar wind. MAXI observed 64 large flares from 22 active stars (RS CVns, dMe stars, Argol types, young stellar objects) over 4 years. The total energies are $10^{34}-10^{36}$ erg $s^{-1}$. Since MAXI can measure the spectrum (temperature and emission measure), we can estimate the size of the plasma and the magnetic fields. The size sometimes exceeds the size of the star. The magnetic field is in the range of 10-100 gauss, which is a typical value for solar flares.

A marine diesel engine should realize optimal efficiency operation while reducing NOx. Fuel injection systems by electronic control can become effective means for that. Although it would be able to get more precise engine control compared to the mechanical injection system, it needs some accurate and instant information in order to bring its ability into full play while sailing on the sea. Very important information of them is shaft torque and continuous combustion pressure of all cylinders. The system presented in this report can deliver those data.

Semisimplicity and reduction of ρ-adic representations of topological monoids

We study relations between several p-adic variants of the semisimplicity of Banach algebras, Banach modules, unitary Banach representations, and the reductions of them. We give a criterion of the semisimplicity of a p-adic unitary representation of a topological monoid by using the reduction of the associated operator algebra. It yields an algorithm for determining whether a given finite dimensional p-adic unitary Banach representation of a compact p-adic Lie group is presentable as the orthogonal direct sum of absolutely irreducible subrepresentations or not.

A Study on the Measurement of Oil-Film Pressure in Engine Connecting Rod Bearing and Piston Pin-Boss by Thin-Film Sensor

In order to measure the oil-film pressure in sliding surface of machinery, we have developed a piezo-resistive type thin-film pressure sensor. To reduce the measurement error due to temperature and strain, the constituent of the pressure sensitive alloy was optimized and a new sensor shape was devised. In this study, we present the measurement results of the oil-film pressure distribution in engine connecting rod big-end bearing and piston pin-bosses with 3 different pin-boss shapes using the newly developed thin-film pressure sensor.

국민문학의 문제

1940년말의 일본 문단의 ``국민문학``론 붐은 곧바로 조선 문단으로 파급 되었다. ``파급``이라는 표현은 그다지 적절하지 않을지도 모른다. 조선문학 사에서는 1926∼1927년 무렵에 프롤레타리아문학에 대항하여 ``국민문학 론``이 대두된바 있다. 물론 1920년대 중반과 1940년 사이에는 ``국민``이라 는 명사의 의미·범주에 결정적 단절이 있다는 것은 두말할 필요도 없다. 간단히 말하면, 전자의 ``국민문학``이란 ``(조선)민족문학``과 등가였던 반면, 후자에서는 ``제국문학``을 의미하게 된다. 그렇다 해도 이것 역시 ``내선일 체`` 하의 ``황국신민``으로서의 조선인에 대한 이야기이다. 복고적 색채가 강한 내지의 ``국민문학``론을 살펴보면 당장 알 수 있듯이, 그쪽에서의 ``국 민``이란 ``야마토 민족``만을 가리키는 것은 의심할 여지가 없다. 즉, 1940년 대 식민지조선에서의 ``국민문학``이란, 조선에서의 과거의 ``국민문학`` 및 내 지에서의 동시대의 ``국민문학``이라는 쌍방의 ``민족문학``으로부터 이중으 로 절단된 특이한 ``(제)국민문학``이라는 것이 예상되어, 그 의미에서도 여 기에서 말하는 ``파급``은 필연적으로 중층적으로 결정되는 것이다. 당시의 식민지조선 문단을 견인하고 있던 양 수레바퀴의 하나인 『인문평론』 주 간 최재서의 국민문학론은 이런 맥락에서 재검토 되어야 한다. 최재서의 ``이론``은 철두철미하게 ``보편성``에 대한 강박관념이라는 족 쇄가 채워졌던 것은 아니었을까. 여기에서 ``족쇄``라고 불리고 있는 것은 실은 ``무기``라고 볼 수도 있다. 실제로 그 ``무기``에 의해서 최재서는 이광수 보다도 오래 버틸 수 있었던 것은 아닐까. 흔히 식민지조선에서의 외국문 학연구는 ``서양``이라는 보편에 접속함으로써 ``일본``이라는 유사 보편을 극 복하는 수단이었다고 논의된다. 확실히 당사자들의 의식에도 그러한 지 향이 있었을 가능성은 높다고 생각한다. 그러나 제국일본의 ``제국적 국민 주의``가 영미제국주의의 경합관계에서 독자적인 보편주의를 내세우고, 그 보편성의 근거는 ``천황``이라는 ``절대자``라고 하는 주장을 강요해 오고, 게 다가 나날이 그 통일적 주장의 외부가 상실되어 간다면 어떻게 될까. ``보 편성``에 대한 강박관념에 사로잡힌 ``이론``은 그 이론에 대한 의지가 강 하면 강할수록 ``보편성``을 사칭하는 ``절대자``(그것은 ``천황``일지도 모르고 ``공화주의``일지도 모른다)에게 최종적으로는 귀의할 운명에 있는 것은 아 닐까. ``무기``라고 생각하고 있던 것이 실은 처음부터 ``족쇄``였던 것은 아닐까. 최재서의 ``이념``은 항상 실체적 질서로서의 ``보편성``을 지향하며, 더욱 이 ``질서``(Order)가 ``명령``(orders)으로서 떨어지는 식민지 상황에서, 그 지 향이 ``강박관념``으로까지 이른 이상, 이미 모종의 ``보편주의``(천황 귀일의 ``제국적 국민주의``)에 말려들 수밖에 없었다고 할 수 있다. 이와 같이 생각 하면, 본 논고의 제목이기도 한 ``국민문학의 문제``의 핵심은 바로 ``최재 서가 제기한 국민문학이라는 (권리상의) 문제는(사실상) 소멸될 수밖 에 없는 운명에 있다``는 것이며, 더 나아가 그것은 식민지 상황에서의 ``이 념``의 문제, 경우에 따라서는 ``근대`` 일반의 문제일지도 모른다는 것이다. This article deals with kokumin bungaku and its intertwined history in Imperial Japan / Colonial Korea in the early 1940`s. The difficulty with translating the very term kokumin bungaku into English clearly reveals the overdetermined nature of kokumin under the exceptionally rigid assimilationist policy of the Japanese Empire. Kokumin bungaku was a hot issue in the Japanese literary journalism during the last months of 1940, where the term simply meant National Literature, often with reactionary Japanist connotations; whereas in Korea, where the debate was introduced at the beginning of 1941 and eventually led to the birth of the pro-Japanese literary journal Kokumin Bungaku, the term was interpreted (or appropriated) as Imperial Literature, so that kokumin should include all the assimilated imperial subjects such as Koreans. Against this background, two prominent pro-Japanese literary figures, Yi Kwangsu and Choe Chaeso, are featured. Yi Kwangsu was the quicker to arrive at determination to become fully Japanese, responding to the interpellation made by such benevolent imperialists as Kobayashi Hideo and Hayashi Fusao. Meanwhile, Choe Chaeso acted with courage in struggling to appropriate kokumin bungaku to the extent that he even insisted that it be the Koreans themselves who were to create the yet-to-come kokumin bungaku - kokumin being not Japanese but the yet-to-come Great East Asian Imperial subjects. In other words, Choe Chaeso theoretically appropriated and re-presented kokumin bungaku as a problem, which may well be associated with the postcolonial problematics today. In the end, however, Choe Choeso, too, abandoned such theoretical project and jumped to the same conclusion that Yi Kwangsu had earlier arrived at. I see this tragedy not caused by the man`s weakness but led by the fate of Theory shackled by Universality. Insofar as Choe Chaeso`s theory is based upon his aspiration for universality, it is doomed to accept the Absolute (the Emperor) as the Universal, once any other alternative universal is denied under the ever-unifying imperial rule. In order to understand the fate of Choe Chaeso`s abortive feat of Theory, I propose a theoretical distinction between universality and universalism. To the former belong l`universalite ideale (Balibar) and l`Idee comme instance problematique (Deleuze), both of which, being singular-multiple, critical, and insurrectional, pertain to demolition of any kind of universalism (i.e., identitarian thinking, such as Nation, Empire, minzoku, etc.), which is always disguised as universality but is, in fact, nothing but generality. In this respect, Choe Chaeso`s kokumin bungaku could have amounted to universality by posing such a problem, but, instead, he ended up finding a universalistic answer in becoming an authentic Japanese. It is therefore safe to conclude that the problem of kokumin bungaku is that the kind of postcolonial problematics posed by Choe Chaeso`s theory is indeed doomed to be assimilated to some kind of universalism, unless it adamantly and incessantly struggles to meet the promise of universality by radically questioning its very foundation (as, for example, Glissant`s Poetics of Relation does).
