Influence of Big Data Analytics Capability on Innovation and Performance in the Hotel Industry in Malaysia

Muhamad Luqman KHALIL(Muhamad Luqman KHALIL ),Norzalita Abd AZIZ(Norzalita Abd AZIZ ) 한국유통과학회 2023 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.10 No.2

This study aims to address the literature gap by examining the direct relationship between big data analytics capability, marketing innovation, and organizational innovations. Additionally, this study would examine big data analytics capability as the antecedent for both innovation types and how these relationships influence firm performance. The research model is developed based on the integration of resource-based view and knowledge-based view theories. The quantitative method is used as the research methodology for this study. Based on a purposive sampling method, a total of 115 questionnaires were obtained from managers in star-rated hotels located in Malaysia. Partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) is utilized for the data analysis. The result shows that big data analytics capability positively affects marketing and organizational innovations. The findings show that big data analytics capability and organizational innovation positively influence firm performance. Nonetheless, the result revealed that marketing innovation is not positively related to firm performance. The findings also indicate to hotel managers the importance of big data analytic capability and the resources required to build and develop this capability. The contributions from this study enrich the literature on big data and innovation, which is particularly limited in the hospitality and tourism context.

Dynamic Mechanical and Morphological Studies of Styrene-co-Methacrylate and Sulfonated Polystyrene Ionomers Containing Aliphatic Dicarboxylate Salts

        Luqman, Mohammad,Kim, Joon-Seop,Shin, Kwan-Woo The Polymer Society of Korea 2009 Macromolecular Research Vol.17 No.9

This study examined the effects of the sodium salts of aliphatic dicarboxylic acids (DCAs) on the dynamic mechanical properties and morphology of two sets of poly(styrene-co-sodium methacrylate) (MNa) and poly(styrene-co-sodium styrenesulfonate) (SNa) ionomers. When the DCA content was relatively low, the ionic moduli of the MNa and SNa ionomers increased but the matrix and cluster glass transition temperature ($T_g$) did not change significantly. The increasing ionic modulus was almost independent of the type of the ionic groups of the ionomer, and the chain length of DCAs. When a large amount of the sodium succinate (DCA4) was added to the MNa and SNa ionomers, the ionic moduli of the two ionomers increased strongly but the matrix and cluster $T_g's$ increased slightly and significantly, respectively. In the case of sodium hexadecanedioate (DCA 16), DCA 16 increased the ionic moduli of the two ionomers. The addition of DCA16 changed the matrix and cluster $T_g's$ of the MNa ionomer slightly, but decreased the cluster $T_g$ of the SNa ionomer significantly with no change in the matrix $T_g$. In addition, the DCA-containing ionomers showed an X-ray diffraction peak indicating the presence of ordered domains of DC As in the ionomers. Hence, DCA4 acts mainly as a reinforcing filler in MNa and SNa systems. In the case of DCA 16, it initially behaved like a filler but also functioned as a preferential plasticizer for the clusters at high content.

Ion-Intercalation Assisted Solvothermal Synthesis and Optical Characterization of MoS2 Quantum Dots

Luqman Ali,방석재,이영중,변지수 한국물리학회 2019 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.74 No.2

Many of the previously reported preparation methods for MoS2 quantum dots (QDs) are limited by production rate, time consumption, tedious processes or the nal quality of the as-prepared QDs. Therefore, a simple and productive method for large-scale production of high-quality MoS2 QDs is still a challenge. We report a facile, low cost and environmentally friendly ion-intercalation assisted solvothermal route for the preparation of MoS2 QDs. In the reported method, NaOH is used as the Na+ ion source to intercalate and exfoliate the commercial MoS2 powder into nanosheets and then QDs. The reaction is carried out at a certain temperature in a Te on-lined autoclave reactor. The UV-Vis absorption spectra of the as synthesized QDs show a peak in the near UV region ( < 300 nm) instead of the characteristic peaks for the nanosheets. Characterization by X-ray diraction, atomic force microscopy and photoluminescence spectroscopy also conrmed that the as-synthesized QDs had a uniform size distribution in the range of a few nanometers with mostly a monolayer structure and showed good photoluminescence (PL) properties. The proposed method has much potential for further enhancing the yield of MoS2 QDs by taking advantage of the nature of solution-based processes.

Current status of Indonesian journals in the field of Islamic economics and finance

Luqman Hakim Handoko 한국과학학술지편집인협의회 2020 Science Editing Vol.7 No.1

This study aimed to explore the status of Indonesian journals in the discipline of Islamic economics and finance. In the last two decades, the emergence of Islamic economic journals was striking. As of November 2019, the Science and Technology Index (SINTA) contained 60 journals on Islamic economics, banking and finance, accounting, management and business, and philanthropy. To explore these journals, a content analysis was conducted using data in the SINTA database. Most of the Islamic economics and finance journals were in SINTA level 4 (out of 6). Only 8 journals were ranked in SINTA level 2, and none were in SINTA level 1. Based on these results, additional efforts are needed to improve journal quality. Moreover, many journals have not been indexed in SINTA, which might have good quality. The author suggests that further efforts be made to include Islamic economics and finance journals in other abstracting and indexing databases, such as the Directory of Open Access Journals, Moraref, and Garuda.

Optical Characterization of a 20 Layer AlGaAs/GaAs Multiple Quantum Wells

Luqman Ali,Janghyun Cho,Clare Chisu BYEON,Jin Dong Song,조현준,Jong Su Kim 한국물리학회 2018 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.73 No.5

A 20-layer Al0:4Ga0:6As/GaAs multiple quantum well (MQW) sample was deposited on a GaAs substrate by using the molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) method. Optical characterization was carried out by power and temperature dependent photoluminescence (PL) for excitation powers ranging from 40 mW to 120 mW and for temperatures ranging from 11 K to 300 K. At low temperature (LT), only one dominant peak appeared in the spectrum with a much higher PL intensity and less broadening with a significant red shift ( 2:4 nm) of the peak as the excitation power was increased. As the temperature was raised to room temperature (RT), increasing excitation power linearly increased the PL with relatively no significant red shift of the main peak, which may be attributed to heavy-hole transitions near the band edge. As the temperature increased, an additional shoulder peak at higher energy are more apparent because the relative intensity of the main peak decreased. Broadening of the shoulder peak was more significant, and its full width at half maximum (FWHM) increased 4.6 nm (> 25% increase). The shoulder peak at higher energy, which is hidden under the high intensity main peak at LT, presumably indicates relative increase in light-hole transitions due to thermal transport as the temperature increases.

Isolated clival subdural haemorrhage from a dolicoectactic vertebrobasilar aneurysm: Case report and overview of endovascular treatment strategies

Luqman Malik,Waleed Butt,Permesh Singh Dhillon,Robert Lenthall 대한뇌혈관외과학회 2021 Journal of Cerebrovascular and Endovascular Neuros Vol.23 No.4

Posterior fossa aneurysms presenting with isolated subdural haemorrhage (SDH) have scarcely been described with no cases attributed to a vertebrobasilar (VB) location. Non-saccular VB aneurysms are a distinct sub-group and in this report we also discuss the pathophysiology and treatment options for these difficult-to-manage lesions. We present a case of a 49 year-old man who presented with a 7-day history of severe headaches who was found to have an isolated acute clival SDH. Vascular imaging revealed a VB dolicoectatic segment with superimposed fusiform dilatations that contacted the dura adjacent to the SDH. A staged treatment was performed with initial parental vessel occlusion of the ruptured vertebral artery segment and subsequent insertion of a braided stent (LEO) with flow diverting properties into the progressively dilating basilar artery. A third procedure was performed to occlude a recurrent pouch at the lower basilar dilatation. Complete angiographic occlusion was achieved and the patient is under continued surveillance. To our knowledge, this is the first case of a ruptured non-saccular VB aneurysm presenting with radiologically isolated clival SDH. Clinical history will often inform the need for vascular imaging in such atypical presentations. Managing these lesions remains an endovascular challenge and requires a specialist multi-disciplinary approach.
