Proposal of the S-score for measuring the performance of researchers, institutions, and journals in Indonesia

        Lukman Lukman,Muhammad Dimyati,Yan Rianto,Imam Much Ibnu Subroto,Tole Sutikno,Deden Sumirat Hidayat,Irene M Nadhiroh,Deris Stiawan,Sam Farisa Chaerul Haviana,Ahmad Heryanto,Herman Yuliansyah 한국과학학술지편집인협의회 2018 Science Editing Vol.5 No.2

This study aimed to propose a tool for measuring the research performance of researchers, institutions, and journals in Indonesia based on bibliometrics. Specifically, the output of this measurement tool, referred to as the S-score, is described, as well as its implementation on the main database portal in Indonesia. The S-score was developed by a focus group discussion. The following 8 evaluation items for journal accreditation were analyzed in the development process: journal title, aims and scope; publisher; editorial and journal management; quality of articles; writing style; format of PDF and e-journal; regularity; and dissemination. The elements of the S-score are as follows: number of journal article documents in Scopus, number of non-journal-article in Scopus, number of citations in Scopus, number of citations in Google Scholar, the h-index in Scopus, and the h-index in Google Scholar. The S-score yields results ranging from S1 to S6. The above metrics were implemented on the Science and Technology Index, a database portal in Indonesia. The measurement tool developed through the focus group discussion was successfully implemented on the database portal. Its validity and reliability should be monitored consistently through regular assessments of S-scores. The S-score may be a good example of a metric for measuring the performance of researchers, institutions, and journals in countries where most journals are not indexed by Scopus.

Service Quality and Consumer Satisfaction: An Empirical Study in Indonesia

Lukman LUKMAN,Agus Eko SUJIANTO,Agus WALUYO,Muchlis YAHYA 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.5

The purpose of this research paper is: (1) to describe the service quality index; (2) describe the data quality index; and (3) describe the anti-corruption index of BPS Trenggalek, Indonesia. The approach chosen is quantitative with the type of survey research. The primary data collection technique was mainly based on a questionnaire distributed to 40 respondents, namely BPS service users in 5 (five) categories: the private sector, the banking industry, academics, offices, or agencies in Trenggalek Regency and universities. The results showed that the quality of BPS services was good and the data quality index where the respondents were satisfied with the data presented by BPS. Meanwhile, testing the anti-corruption index shows that BPS Trenggalek is very anti-corruption in providing services to consumers. The findings of this study suggested that to improve service quality, it is necessary to pay attention to several aspects, including published service requirements, easy requirements to be fulfilled, published procedure information, clear service process flow, published service times, and costs/tariffs are communicated. This study suggests updating data, data relevance, data accessibility, and data completeness to improve data quality. Furthermore, to maintain the very anti-corruption predicate, this study suggests maintaining service by upholding the prevailing ethics and norms.

The results of the study identified 30 Indonesian journals that have been Scopus-indexed, of which 22 were listed in SCImago Journal Rank up to October 2017. Journals in the engineering field were the most cited, with 2,427 citations, including 930 self-citations. A large proportion of the citations were of recently-founded journals. The mean proportional difference in the citation frequency between Scopus and Google Scholar was 14.71%.

      • A New IoT Architecture for a Sustainable IoT Adoption into the Society

        Lukman Lamid Idowu(루크만라미드이도우),Soo-Hyun Park(박수현),In-Kyu Kim(김인규) 대한전자공학회 2016 대한전자공학회 학술대회 Vol.2016 No.6

Internet of Things is currently changing the world, its applications cut across all human endeavors. The challenges are: how can Internet of Things become a successful and sustainable technology in the nearest future just like its mother the "internet" and any other successful technologies? How can IoT successfully be an integral part of our daily lives in a sustainable manner? This paper proposes new IoT architecture with design styles at each layer of the architecture. The architecture is proposed with the aim to facilitate sustainable adoption of IoT applications in our society. It looks more into bridging the gap between IoT demands and supplies by connecting public and business values of IoT on one hand and technologies and applications of IoT on the other hand. Recommending architecture design styles at each layer will ensure rapid development and reuse of IoT solutions and the platform layer where IoT is offered as service will encourage more access to and development of IoT applications and services. It takes care of security and privacy issues at every layer of the architecture. The main motivation of this paper is to propose a new architecture and architectural design styles to ensure increased and sustainable adoption, rapid development and reuse of IoT systems and applications.

Radial Force Reduction Method of Switched Reluctance Motor with Partial Holes in the Rotor

        Lukman Grace Firsta,Ahn Jin-Woo 대한전기학회 2022 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.17 No.3

Switched reluctance motor (SRM) is remarkably simple in confi guration, having core laminations and windings only on its stator, which leads to various advantages such as high robustness. Radial force is known to be the origin of vibration, and it is severe in SRM due to its doubly salient structure. In this paper, a novel design of rotor which has partial inner holes to reduce radial force is proposed. For each rotor pole, a couple of holes along the axial direction is positioned as such to disturb the fl ux going straight from one stator pole to the one right across it. Simulations were performed to fi nd the optimum location for the holes and the motor was manufactured to verify the proposed idea. Experiments were done and the results of the rotor with and without holes were compared. The results show the eff ectiveness of the proposed structure.

Design of a 24/16 Outer-Rotor Switched Reluctance Motor with Symmetrical/Asymmetrical Pole Shoes for Performance Improvement

        Lukman Grace Firsta,Shahida Shahirin,Jeong Kwang-Il,Ahn Jin-Woo 대한전기학회 2023 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.18 No.2

In this paper, the stator and rotor pole designs of a 3-phase 24/16 outer-rotor type switched reluctance motor (SRM) adopting symmetrical and asymmetrical pole shoes are proposed for performance improvement. The design process starts by optimizing the stator pole first and then the rotor. The slot area for windings is extremely limited in outer-rotor type SRM with high number of poles. The symmetric T-shape pole is proposed for the stator core to enlarge the winding space while maintaining the same torque profile. Asymmetric or the L-shape pole is proposed for the rotor to improve the torque characteristics such as reducing torque ripple and increasing the output torque at the beginning of the overlapping section. The effect of each design parameter is examined through finite element analysis. Simulation results show that the proposed SRM generates 39% lower torque ripple compared to that of a conventional one. Furthermore, experimental results confirmed that the proposed rotor model produces higher starting torque by 39% and slightly higher efficiency by 1.4% at the maximum operating speed of 1400 RPM.

Secure transmission in an unfriendly environments

        Lukman A. Olawoyin,Nasir Faruk,Abdulkarim A. Oloyede,Segun I. Popoola,Temitayo C. Adeniran,Nazmat T. Surajudeen-Bakinde,Abubakar Abdulkarim 한국통신학회 2020 ICT Express Vol.6 No.2

This work investigates and show the performance of destination assisted node in ensuring secure communication in a dual-hop broadcast system. The information transmission occurs between the transmitters which is assumed to be equipped with single antenna through a number of intermediate untrusted relays to the receiver in the presence of multiple passive eavesdroppers. This work assume that there is no direct link between the transmitter and the receiver and hence, the relay node, receives either the information or noise signal at every transmission processes. Since the transmission occurs in a two-phases, the legitimate receiver is contributing a degrading noise to both the eavesdropper and relay node channels during the first phase while it receives information from the transmitter through the relay during the second phase. Simulation results are used to illustrate the performance of the proposed scheme.

Relative effects of regional and global trade on carbon emissions in ECOWAS member countries

Lukman O Oyelami 한국외국어대학교 국제지역연구센터 2019 International Area Studies Review Vol.22 No.1

The effect of trade on environmental quality has always been ambiguous in both developed and developing countries. This has prompted several country- and region-specific studies. It is against this background that this study seeks to investigate the effect of international trade on carbon emissions in the ECOWAS subregion in general and specifically determines the relative effect of regional and global trade on carbon emissions. To achieve this, time series data on trade and carbon emissions from 1970 to 2014 were employed for 14 ECOWAS member countries based on data availability and the data were duly subjected to required econometric tests to prevent spurious analysis. PMG/MG method of panel ARDL was adopted to estimate the relative effect of regional and global trade on carbon emissions and this is based on capability of the method to classify relationship into short-run and long-run and also solve endogenity issues. The results from model estimation show that effect of trade on environmental quality is a long-term phenomenon and basically support the view that trade has negative effect on environmental quality. However, regional trade is less harmful and it can guarantee improved environment quality in the long run. The study therefore recommend that countries in the region should trade more with one another especially in areas where they lack competiveness as this can better guarantee a more sustainable development for the entire subregion.
