      • Discussing the Relationships between Servicescape, Trust and Customers' Choice of Restaurant in Taiwan

Hao-Te Lu,Richard Warr 세계문화관광학회 2010 International Journal of Culture and tourism Resea Vol.3 No.1

While literature focusing on the constructs of the environmental factors of servicescape and trust are relatively common in Western countries, the empirical studies which focus on the Chinese context of the restaurant service sector are rather limited and need to be expanded. The purpose of this study is to fill in some of this gap in research by analysing the relationships between servicescape, trust and customers' choice of restaurant within the Chinese cultural society in Taiwan. This study concludes that trust has a very strong positive association for customers' choice of restaurant in Taiwan. On the other hand, although empirical findings have shown that servicescape is a very important factor in affecting customers' intentions and purchasing behaviour, this study reveals that servicescape is not an important element for customers' choice of small Chinese restaurants in Taiwan. Consequently, this study suggests that for different customers from different countries with different eating cultures, the servicescape elements may not apply to all of these customers.

      • Where does Trust and Service Quality Reputation Come From? An Example of the Small Chinese Restaurant Sector in Taiwan.

Hao-Te LU 세계문화관광학회 2011 Conference Proceedings Vol.12 No.-

The term 'business reputation' has certainly moved into the spotlight recently. However most studies conducted on business reputation have focused on large or multinational enterprises. Within a potentially very large topic this research concentrates on the perception of the reputation of Taiwanese small enterprises namely small Chinese restaurants. The motivation for this study stems from the notions about business reputation from customers' points of view. In addition significant frameworks reflect conceptual and empirical work which focuses on servicescape social responsibility trust and service quality all of which are relatively common in Western countries. Existing studies which concentrate on Chinese societies are rather more limited and need to be expanded. The purpose of this paper is to fill in some of this research gap by discussing some of the above models in the Chinese cultural society of Taiwan. The results correspond to previous studies conducted such as the strong relationship between servicescape and service quality and servicescape being positively connected to trust. The role of trust is critically important in small Chinese restaurants.

The Performance Study of a Virtualized Multicore Web System

        ( Chien-te Lu ),( C. -s. Eugene Yeh ),( Yung-chung Wang ),( Chu-sing Yang ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2016 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.10 No.11

Enhancing the performance of computing systems has been an important topic since the invention of computers. The leading-edge technologies of multicore and virtualization dramatically influence the development of current IT systems. We study performance attributes of response time (RT), throughput, efficiency, and scalability of a virtualized Web system running on a multicore server. We build virtual machines (VMs) for a Web application, and use distributed stress tests to measure RTs and throughputs under varied combinations of virtual cores (VCs) and VM instances. Their gains, efficiencies and scalabilities are also computed and compared. Our experimental and analytic results indicate: 1) A system can perform and scale much better by adopting multiple single-VC VMs than by single multiple-VC VM. 2) The system capacity gain is proportional to the number of VM instances run, but not proportional to the number of VCs allocated in a VM. 3) A system with more VMs or VCs has higher physical CPU utilization, but lower vCPU utilization. 4) The maximum throughput gain is less than VM or VC gain. 5) Per-core computing efficiency does not correlate to the quality of VCs or VMs employed. The outcomes can provide valuable guidelines for selecting instance types provided by public Cloud providers and load balancing planning for Web systems.

      • Optimal Timing of Purchasing Decisions for Airplane Tickets and Hotels. An Example in the UK.

Hao-Te LU,Wan-Yu,HSU,Chih-Yao,YI 세계문화관광학회 2012 International Journal of Culture and tourism Resea Vol.5 No.1

Customers usually like to make travel plans weeks or months ahead of the travel schedule. Therefore, they can take extra time to search information they need in order to purchase the products at the lowest possible price. Accordingly, this study bases on the revenue management (or yield management) to examine the prices of two categories, airplane tickets and hotels, over a period of eight weeks in order to observe how the prices cycle up and down over time. The aim of this study is to investigate whether there is an optimal purchasing time for any of the products. A structured observation, often also called systematic observation was conducted by this study to investigate the two categories of travel products. The study reveals that prices for the products assume an increasing trend as the date of the product consumption approaches. The implication for consumers is that they could purchase the products as early as possible to take advantage of the early prices. Although prices sometimes drop, they rarely drop lower than those the first day consumers start their search for tourism products. At end of this study, we also discuss the price variation in Taiwan and an avenue for further research.

The Correlation between Thyrotropin and Dyslipidemia in a Population-based Study

        Li Lu,Beibei Wang,Zhongyan Shan,Fengwei Jiang,Xiaochun Teng,Yanyan Chen,Yaxin Lai,Jiani Wang,Haibo Xue,Sen Wang,Chenyan Li,He Liu,Ningna Li,Jiashu Yu,Liangfeng Shi,Xin Hou,Qian Xing,Xue Bai,Weiping Te 대한의학회 2011 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.26 No.2

This study investigated the relationship between serum thyrotrophin levels and dyslipidemia in subclinical hypothyroid and euthyroid subjects. A total of 110 subjects with subclinical hypothyroidism and 1,240 euthyroid subjects enrolled in this study. Patients with subclinical hypothyroidism had significantly lower high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels than those who were euthyroid. The lipid profiles were each categorized and mean thyrotrophin levels were higher in subjects in the dyslipidemia subclasses than subjects in the normal subclasses. Thyrotrophin was positively associated with serum triglyceride and negatively associated with serum HDL-C in women. Thyrotrophin was also positively associated with total cholesterol (TC) in the overweight population along with TC and LDL-C in overweight women. In the euthyroid population, thyrotrophin was positively associated with TC in the overweight population. In conclusion, serum thyrotrophin was correlated with dyslipidemia in subclinical hypothyroid and euthyroid subjects; the correlation was independent of insulin sensitivity.

Rosmarinus officinalis Extract Suppresses Propionibacterium acnes–Induced Inflammatory Responses

        Tsung-Hsien Tsai,Lu-Te Chuang,Tsung-Jung Lien,Yau-Rong Liing,Wei-Yu Chen,Po-Jung Tsai 한국식품영양과학회 2013 Journal of medicinal food Vol.16 No.4

Propionibacterium acnes is a key pathogen involved in the progression of acne inflammation. The development of a new agent possessing antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity against P. acnes is therefore of interest. In this study, we investigated the inhibitory effect of rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) extract on P. acnes–induced inflammation in vitro and in vivo. The results showed that ethanolic rosemary extract (ERE) significantly suppressed the secretion and mRNA expression of proinflammatory cytokines, including interleukin (IL)-8, IL-1β, and tumor necrosis factor-α in P. acnes–stimulated monocytic THP-1 cells. In an in vivo mouse model, concomitant intradermal injection of ERE attenuated the P. acnes–induced ear swelling and granulomatous inflammation. Since ERE suppressed the P. acnes–induced nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) activation and mRNA expression of Toll-like receptor (TLR) 2, the suppressive effect of ERE might be due, at least partially, to diminished NF-κB activation and TLR2-mediated signaling pathways. Furthermore, three major constituents of ERE, carnosol, carnosic acid, and rosmarinic acid, exerted different immumodulatory activities in vitro. In brief, rosmarinic acid significantly suppressed IL-8 production, while the other two compounds inhibited IL-1β production. Further study is needed to explore the role of bioactive compounds of rosemary in mitigation of P. acnes–induced inflammation.
