      • Kinetically Blocked Stable Heptazethrene and Octazethrene: Closed-Shell or Open-Shell in the Ground State?

        <P>Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons with an open-shell singlet biradical ground state are of fundamental interest and have potential applications in materials science. However, the inherent high reactivity makes their synthesis and characterization very challenging. In this work, a convenient synthetic route was developed to synthesize two kinetically blocked heptazethrene (<B>HZ-TIPS</B>) and octazethrene (<B>OZ-TIPS</B>) compounds with good stability. Their ground-state electronic structures were systematically investigated by a combination of different experimental methods, including steady-state and transient absorption spectroscopy, variable temperature NMR, electron spin resonance (ESR), superconducting quantum interfering device (SQUID), FT Raman, and X-ray crystallographic analysis, assisted by unrestricted symmetry-broken density functional theory (DFT) calculations. All these demonstrated that the heptazethrene derivative <B>HZ-TIPS</B> has a closed-shell ground state while its octazethrene analogue <B>OZ-TIPS</B> with a smaller energy gap exists as an open-shell singlet biradical with a large measured biradical character (<I>y</I> = 0.56). Large two-photon absorption (TPA) cross sections (σ<SUP>(2)</SUP>) were determined for <B>HZ-TIPS</B> (σ<SUP>(2)</SUP><SUB>max</SUB> = 920 GM at 1250 nm) and <B>OZ-TIPS</B> (σ<SUP>(2)</SUP><SUB>max</SUB> = 1200 GM at 1250 nm).         An Interleaved Converter for 12-pulse Rectifier Harmonic Suppression

        In order to further improve the harmonic suppression capability of conventional 12-pulse rectifiers, this paper proposes a low harmonic 12-pulse rectifier using an Active Inter-Phase Reactor (AIPR). Through a detailed analysis of the relationship between the input current, output current and circulating current of the DC side, the mechanism where the AC grid side current harmonics can be suppressed by the DC side circulating current is revealed. On this basis, an interleaved APFC controlled by a DSP is designed and used as an AIPR along with an interphase reactor. A simulation is carried out with MATLAB/Simulink and an experiment is performed on a 9-kVA prototype. The obtained results verify the feasibility and validity of the proposed approach. Compared with a traditional 12-pulse rectifier, the THD can be reduced to 1/5 of the original value, and the capacity of the AIPR is only 2% of the load power. Thus, it is suitable for high-power applications.

        Role of interfacial interactions on the anomalous swelling of polymer thin films in supercritical carbon dioxide

        <P>It has recently been shown that thin polymer films in the nanometer thickness range exhibit anomalous swelling maxima in supercritical CO<SUB>2</SUB> (Sc-Co<SUB>2</SUB>) in the vicinity of the critical point of CO<SUB>2</SUB>. The adsorption isotherm of CO<SUB>2</SUB> on carbon black, silica surfaces, porous zeolites, and other surfaces, is known to exhibit anomalous maxima under similar CO<SUB>2</SUB> conditions. It is believed that because CO<SUB>2</SUB> possesses a low cohesive energy density, there would be an excess amount of CO<SUB>2</SUB> at the surfaces of these materials and hence the CO<SUB>2</SUB>/polymer interface. This might cause excess CO<SUB>2</SUB> in the polymer films near the free surface, and hence the swelling anomaly. In addition, an excess of CO<SUB>2</SUB> would reside at the polymer/substrate and polymer/CO<SUB>2</SUB> interfaces for entropic reasons. These interfacial effects, as have been suggested, should account for an overall excess of CO<SUB>2</SUB> in a thin polymer film compared to the bulk, and would be responsible for the anomalous swelling. In this study, we use in situ spectroscopic ellipsometry to investigate the role of interfaces on the anomalous swelling of polymer thin films of varying initial thicknesses, h<SUB>0</SUB>, exposed to Sc-CO<SUB>2</SUB>. We examined three homopolymers, poly(1,1′-dihydroperflurooctyl methacrylate) (PFOMA), polystyrene (PS), poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO), that exhibit very different interactions with Sc-CO<SUB>2</SUB>, and the diblock copolymer of PS-b-PFOMA. We show that the anomalous swelling cannot be solely explained by the excess adsorption of CO<SUB>2</SUB> at interfaces. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.         The Irish Oedipus : Yeats’s and McGuiness’s Adaptations of The Oedipal Myth

        본 논문은 린다 허쳔과 마그리타 레라의 번안 이론을 활용하여 소포크 레스의 오이디푸스왕를 번안하는 예이츠와 맥기니스의 동기를 역사적 맥락에서 분석 한다. 주제와 파토스에 있어서 아주 상이한 번안을 하도록 하는 각 저자의 시대상황과 사정이 다른 점들을 보여준다. 또 그리스 원전의 번안 방법에도 주의한다. 본 연구는, 저자들의 빈약한 그리스어를 감안하여, 번안작가들은 언어간의 번역보다는 언어내부적 문제를 더 효과적으로 다룬다. 이 논문은 또한 그들이 어떻게 오이디푸의 신화와 현대 및 당대의 아일랜드 극에 기여하는 지 연구하기 위해서 그들의 번안/번역/교정을 할 때 예이츠와 맥기니스가 시도한 변형과 차이를 준 것들이 무엇인지도 논의한다. This paper draws on contemporary theories of adaptation, especially those of Linda Hutcheon and Margherita Laera, to provide a historically contextualized analysis of the motivations of W. B. Yeats and Frank McGuinness in adapting Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex. It reveals the ways in which the different times and agendas of the respective authors led them to produce very different productions in terms of theme and pathos. Critical attention is also given to the strategies of their adaptation of the Greek text. It argues that, given the paucity of their knowledge of Greek, the writers were effectively more engaged in an intra-lingual than inter-lingual translation. This paper will also discuss the alterations and variations that Yeats and McGuinness undertook in their adaptations/translations/rewritings to find out how they contribute to the Oedipal myth and to the modern and contemporary Irish theatre.

        Preparation of Porous Ni–Cu Alloy Electrodes and their Electrocatalytic Performance as Cathode for Hydrogen Evolution Reaction in Alkaline Solution

        Porous Ni–Cu alloy electrodes were conveniently fabricated by galvanic displacement reaction (GDR) between Ni foam and copper ion in copper ion solutions, followed by cyclic voltammetry (CV) treatment to form a hierarchical microstructure. The electrocatalytic performance of prepared electrodes in terms of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) was investigated in a 1 mol/L KOH solution at room temperature. Different copper ion solutions were tested to determine the best copper ion solution and the optimum GDR time, and experimental results show that all cathodes obtained by GDR between Ni foam and copper ion exhibit a superior HER activity over the pure Ni foam cathode, while the HER activity of electrode obtained by GDR between Ni foam and copper ion in 0.5 mol/L CuCl2 solutions for 1 h is the highest. Furthermore, it is found that the HER activity of electrode obtained by GDR between Ni foam and copper ion in 0.5 mol/L CuCl2 solutions for 1 h can be further enhanced through a CV treatment and the optimal number of CV cycles is 3, which can be attributed to a hierarchical microstructure (a needle-like nano–microstructure formed on the surface of the electrode during the CV treatment process).

      • Examining Trends in the Use of Computers in Education in China from a Wood's National Policy Models Perspective

        This paper reports the application of Wood's national policy framework (Wood, 2002) to the use of computers in Chinese schools in order to evaluate the impact of and reaction to information and communications technology (ICT) policy on the future of schooling and society. With its highly centralized system of schooling, the "centralized regulation of schooling" scenario is considered to be sufficiently close to enable current ICT policy and possible future developments to be examined. The analysis arising/rom Wood's framework has significant implications for developing countries, such as China, which have limited funding and experience to address the range of issues relating to ICT integration. 81

        W. B. Yeats’s Anti-theatricalism and Poetic Nationalism in At the Hawk’s Well

        예이츠의 일본의 노드라마와의 조우는 1916년 『매의 우물』을 쓰게 하는데, 이 작품에서 그는 시극에서 직면한 여러 문제와 자신의 시적 문화주의의 애매한 표현에 대한 해결책을 찾는다. 노드라마를 그대로 재현하는 대신에 예이츠는 대중적 연극개념에 반대한 자신의 미학적, 정치적 이상을 담아 재창조한다. 예술적으로, 예이트는 “극의 형식을 발명”해내는데, 이 형식은 반연극적, 반사실주의적 화법을 실행할 뿐 아니라, 일반대중을 포용하기를 거부하는 친밀한 극을 만든다. 정치적으로, 예이츠의 시적문화주의는 노에 영감을 받은 극에 적합한 신비주의철학과 결합한다. 시극은 이미지의 집중이 애국심을 불러일으키는 강력한 의식이어야 한다고 예이츠는 생각했다. 그러나 이런 공연 리추얼이 야기하는 주술적 상태는 부정적 양상을 초래한다. 매 의 우물에서, 쿠훌린의 마지막 영웅적 행위는 자신의 선택이 아니라 주술의 결과이다. 이렇게 이 극은 초기극 『캐스린 니 훌리한』에서 보이는 문화적 주술의 시학으로서의 문화주의의 지속성에 우리의 관심을 끌게 한다. Yeats’s encounter with the Japanese Noh theatre led to the production of At the Hawk’s Well in 1916 in which he found solutions for the problems he struggled with in a poetic theatre and an ambivalent expression for his poetic nationalism. Instead of an authentic recreation of the Noh theatre, Yeats refashioned it conveying his own aesthetic and political visions opposing his early ideal of the People’s theatre. Artistically, Yeats “invented a form of drama” which not only implements his anti-theatrical and anti-realist discourse, but also produces an intimate theatre that refuses to accommodate a mob. Politically, Yeats’s poetic version of nationalism converged with his occultist philosophy which found expression in this Noh-inspired play. He held that a poetic theatre had to be a powerful ritual in which the concentration of images evokes a national consciousness. However, the hypnotized state evoked by this performance ritual entails negative aspects. In At the Hawk’s Well, Cuchulain’s final act of heroism is not out of his own choice, but the result of hypnotization. The play thus draws our attention to the continuity of Yeats’s representations of nationalism as poetics of cultural hypnosis from his early play Cathleen Ni Houlihan.

        Recently, with the popularity of computers and personal and network has penetrated the public life. In the computer, the network information society is characterized by changes in people"s lifestyles, digital way of life so that people entered an unprecedented state of existence. At the same time, today"s society aging population is a global problem, especially in China: China has become the world"s most populous elderly, one of the fastest growing countries. Currently, the Internet age has brought not only to the young fashion, bringing the trend, but also to the elderly home care has brought new changes. Chinese elderly pension concept from being the "dignity" to "celebrate old age" into the Internet in the lives of older people play an increasingly important role. Therefore, this study elderly as the research object, through its use of the network cause analysis to study the theory of uses and gratifications premise network usage for the elderly to explore the use of older motives between usage behavior and satisfaction relationship. However, this study because no amount of statistical analysis can not determine whether the proposed hypothesis established, can not determine the impact between variables were positive or negative. Therefore, this research study will take samples back questionnaires and statistical analysis, from the amount of empirical research on the model.
