<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Bio-inspired non-precious-metal catalysts based on iron and cobalt porphyrins are promising alternatives to replace costly platinum-based catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in fuel cells. However, the exact nature of the active sites is still not clearly understood, and further optimization design is needed for practical applications. Here, we report a rational catalyst design process by combining density functional theory (DFT) calculations and experimental validations. Two sets of square-planar (MNxC4−x) and square-pyramid (MNxC5−x) active centers (M=Mn, Fe, Co, Ni) incorporated in graphene were examined using DFT. Fe-N5 and Co-N4 sites were identified theoretically to have the best performance in fuel cells, while Ni-NxC4−x sites catalyze the most H2O2 byproduct. Graphene samples with well-dispersed incorporations of metals were synthesized, and the following electrochemical measurements show an excellent agreement with the theoretical predictions, indicating that a successful design framework and systematic understanding toward the catalytic nature of these materials are established.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Graphene based catalysts design for ORR is demonstrated by combining experiments and modellings. </LI> <LI> Iron porphyrin like active site is unraveled to be five nitrogen coordinated as FeN5. </LI> <LI> Cobalt porphyrin like active site is shown to be four nitrogen coordinated as CoN4. </LI> <LI> Nickel porphyrin like catalyst is potentially used for catalytic synthesis of H2O2. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
Study on Enhancing Lightning Protection Scheme of Catenary in Subway Viaduct Section
Li, Rui-Fang,Chen, Kui,Chen, Li-Sheng,Cao, Xiao-Bin,Wu, Guang-Ning,Zhang, Xue-Qin The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers 2017 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.12 No.2
Viaduct increases the height of subway catenary, namely magnifies lightning attraction scope that lead to higher possibility of suffering lightning stroke. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze performance of lightning striking to catenary of subway in viaduct section and propose an improving lightning protection scheme. In this paper, using ATP-EMTP simulation software to establish an associated model to evaluate lightning withstand level of catenary with existing lightning protection schemes including arrester and grounding point, an improving lightning protection scheme is proposed - every pillar ground earth and arresters are installed with some installing spacing between 200m to 400m based on lightning damage degree and reliability requirements - according to analyzing results: while lightning withstand level is lowest for lightning striking to the neutral pillar, lightning withstand level is greatest for lightning striking to the both-ends pillar that arrester and grounding point are both installed; grounding point could obviously improve lightning withstand level for lightning striking to ground wire while arrester could obviously improve the lightning withstand level for lightning striking to catenary; every pillar ground earth could enhance the lowest lightning withstanding level up to 2.5 times than of that pillar ground earth across every 200m.

The genetic diversities and relationships of 10 Chinese indigenous pig breeds and three exotic pig breeds have been evaluated using 26 microsatellites recommended by the Food and Agriculture Organization & the International Society of Animal Genetics (FAO-ISAG). The allele frequencies, genetic heterozygosity (H) and polymorphism information content (PIC) have been calculated. The results showed that genetic diversity of Chinese indigenous pig breeds is higher than that of the introduced pig breeds. The clustering of 10 breeds is generally consistent with their geographical distribution.
Robust H∞ Fuzzy Control for Discrete-time Nonlinear Systems
Li-Kui Wang,Xiao-Dong Liu 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2010 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.8 No.1
This paper studies the problem of robust H∞ control for discrete-time nonlinear systems presented as Takagi--Sugeno’s fuzzy models. The generalized non-parallel distributed compensation (non-PDC) law and non-quadratic Lyapunov function is constructed by the proposed homogeneouspolynomially basis-dependent matrix function (HPB-MF for abbreviation). Based on the generalized non-PDC law and non-quadratic Lyapunov function, some linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) are obtained by exploiting the possible combinations of the basis functions. These LMIs ensure the asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system and guarantee a norm bound constraint on disturbance attenuation. In addition, it is shown that the LMIs become less conservative as the degree of HPB-MF increases. The merit of the methods presented in this paper lies in their less conservatism than other methods, as shown by a numerical example borrowed from the literature.

Although associations between thioredoxin interacting protein (TXNIP) and cancers have been recognized, the effects of TXNIP on non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) prognosis remained to be determined in detail. In addition, while hypoxia is a key characteristic of tumor cell growth microenvironment, the effect of hypoxia on TXNIP expression is controversial. In this study, formaldehyde fixed and paraffin embedded (FFPE) samples of 70 NSCLC patients who underwent resection between January 2010 and December 2011 were obtained. Evaluation of TXNIP and hypoxia inducible factor-$1{\alpha}$ ($HIF-1{\alpha}$) protein expression in FFPE samples was made by immunohistochemistry. By Kaplan-Meier method, patients with high TXNIP expression demonstrated a significantly shorter progression free survival (PFS) compared with those with low TXNIP expression (18.0 months, 95%CI: 11.7, 24.3 versus 23.0 months, 95%CI: 17.6, 28.4, P=0.02). High TXNIP expression level was also identified as an independent prognostic factor by Cox regression analysis (adjusted hazard ratio: 2.46; 95%CI: 1.08, 5.56; P=0.03). Furthermore, TXNIP expression was found to be significantly correlated with $HIF-1{\alpha}$ expression (Spearman correlation=0.67, P=0.000). To further confirm correlations, we established a tumor cell hypoxic culture model. Expression of TXNIP was up-regulated in all three NSCLC cell lines (A549, SPC-A1, and H1299) under hypoxic conditions. This study suggests that hypoxia induces increased TXNIP expression in NSCLC and high TXNIP expression could be a poor prognostic marker.

Li, Li,Nie, Yu,Zhu, Rong,Shi, Sanjun,Luo, Kui,He, Bin,Yang, Yang,Yang, Junxiao,Gu, Zhongwei 대한약학회 2008 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.31 No.7
Cationic lipids 1, 2, and 3, based on hydrophobic cholesterol linked to L-lysine, L-histidine or Larginine, respectively, were designed and tested as gene delivery vectors. Physicochemical and biological properties of all liposomes and lipoplexes were evaluated, including lipid-DNA interactions, size, morphology, zeta potential, acid-base buffering capability, protection of DNA from DNase I digestion, and cytotoxity. The efficiency of luciferase gene transfection of lipoplexes 1-3 was compared with that of commercial dioleoyl-trimethylammonium propane (DOTAP) and polyethyleneimine (PEI) in 293T cells and HepG2 cells with or without poly(ethylene glycol) PEG stabilizer. The complexation and protection of DNA of liposome 3 was the strongest among the three liposomes. The efficiency of gene transfection of liposomes 1-3 was two-to threefold higher than that of PEI and/or DOTAP in 293T cells. Liposomes 1 and 3 in PEG as stabilizer showed sixfold higher transfection efficiency than that of PEI and/or DOTAP, whereas liposome 2 showed very low transfection efficiency. In HepG2 cells, the transfection efficiency of all the cationic liposomes was much lower than that of DOTAP. In conclusion, lipids 1-3 were efficient and non-toxic gene vectors; the headgroup of cationic lipids and the stabilizer of liposome formulation had an important influence on gene transfection.

The first example of lead compound from Pb(NO_3)_2 and H3L N-heterocyclic ligand (H_3L = (HO_2C)_2(C_3N_2)(C_3H_7)CH_2(C_6H_4)(C_6H_3)CO_2H), [Pb_4(L')_4]·5H_2O 1 (L' = OOC(C_3H_7)(C_3N_2)CH_2(C_6H_4)(C_6H_3)COO), has been obtained under hydrothermal condition by decarboxylation, and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, TGDTA,and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 possesses a rare two-dimensional upper-lower offset terrace-like layer structure. In 1, crystallographic distinct Pb(II) ion adopts five-coordination geometry, and two lattice water molecules occupy the voids between 2-D layers. Results of solid state fluorescence measurement indicate that the emission band 458 nm may be assigned to π*-n and π*-π electronic transitions within the aromatic systems of the ligand L', however, the emission bands centred at 555 nm, 600 nm and 719 nm may be derived from phosphorescent emission (λexcitation = 390 nm).
