Cloning and Characterization of a Na+/H+ Antiporter Gene of the Moderately Halophilic Bacterium Halobacillus aidingensis AD-6T

Ya Jie Zou,Li Fu Yang,Lei Wang,Su Sheng Yang 한국미생물학회 2008 The journal of microbiology Vol.46 No.4

A gene encoding a Na+/H+ antiporter was obtained from the genome of Halobacillus aidingensis AD-6T, which was sequenced and designated as nhaH. The deduced amino acid sequence of the gene was 91% identical to the NhaH of H. dabanensis, and shared 54% identity with the NhaG of Bacillus subtilis. The cloned gene enable the Escherichia coli KNabc cell, which lack all of the major Na+/H+ antiporters, to grow in medium containing 0.2 M NaCl or 10 mM LiCl. The nhaH gene was predicted to encode a 43.5 kDa protein (403 amino acid residues) with 11 putative transmembrane regions. Everted membrane vesicles prepared from E. coli KNabc cells carrying NhaH exhibited Na+/H+ as well as Li+/H+ antiporter activity, which was pH-dependent with the highest activity at pH 8.0, and no K+ /H+ antiporter activity was detected. The deletion of hydrophilic C-terminal amino acid residues showed that the short C-terminal tail was vital for Na+/H+ antiporter activity.

The preparation, performance and lithiation mechanism of cobalt-doped zinc oxide as a high performance anode material for LIB

        Yue Li,WanWan Li,Minhua Fang,XiaoLin Yao,Chao Chen,Miao Shui,Jie Shu,Yuanlong Ren 한국물리학회 2017 Current Applied Physics Vol.17 No.8

Zn1-xCoxO (0 x 0.15) anode material was prepared by an easy polyacrylamide assisted sol-gel route. The successful replacement of Zinc by Cobalt within Cobalt content x 0.09 was confirmed by structural characterization. The introduction of Cobalt element greatly improved the electro-chemical performances of the matrix Zinc oxide. Without carbon coating, at the 20th cycle, Zn0.91Co0.09O anode still preserved a capacity a little bit more than 1000 mA h g1 and a capacity more than 600 mA h g1 was retained at the end of the 50th cycle. Better rate capability was also witnessed. The SEM, EIS at OCV, CV and in situ XRD were further carried out to elucidate the lithiation mechanism. The role Cobalt doping played can be summarized as follows: the stabilization of the Li2Zn phase, the minimization of charge transfer resistance and the enhanced reversibility of the reduction from metal oxide to metal.

Background Since the outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), acupuncture has been widely used in the treatment of COVID-19. The research community has responded rapidly and has already published many research articles about this topic. Methods We searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library as well as CNKI, Wanfang and VIP from January 1, 2020 to July 31, 2021. The dates of publication, language of publication, methodological characteristics and the key findings were analyzed separately. The data are presented as bar graphs, structured tables and figures. Results In this scoping review, 16 research articles were included: 7 case reports, 6 observational studies, 1 review, 1 RCT and 1 nonrandomized clinical trial. The majority of the articles (81.3%) were published by Chinese scholars, 12.5% articles were by scholars in the United States, and 6.3% articles were by scholars in Iran. The included studies reported that acupuncture could alleviate the symptoms of COVID-19 patients, shorten their hospitalization days, and is effective for the elderly. There were no side effects reported. The most frequent acupoints used were LI4, PC6, ST36 and KI3. They reported many obstacles in implementing acupuncture therapy for treating COVID-19 patients. Conclusion Acupuncture has a good effect for the treatment of COVID-19, but high-quality evidence support is still lacking. Coupled with the difficulties that acupuncturists experienced during the process of treatment, the promotion of acupuncture treatment for COVID-19 faces many obstacles. Antimony Selenide Nanorods Decorated on Reduced Graphene Oxide with Excellent Electrochemical Properties for Li-Ion Batteries

        Wang, Xia,Wang, Hong,Li, Qiang,Li, Hongsen,Xu, Jie,Zhao, Guoxia,Li, Hongliang,Guo, Peizhi,Li, Shandong,Sun, Yang-kook The Electrochemical Society 2017 Journal of the Electrochemical Society Vol.164 No.13

<P>A promising anode material for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) consisting of Sb2Se3 nanorods and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) sheets has been prepared by an effective solvothermal approach. The synergetic effect between Sb2Se3 nanorods and rGO matrix provides not only high conductivity paths and strong electron contact interface, but also alleviates the volume change of Sb2Se3 nanorods, resulting in excellent lithium-storage performance. When tested as an anode material for LIBs, a high capacity of 868.30 mAh g(-1) can be retained after 100 cycles at 200 mA g(-1). Even at 2000 mA g(-1), a satisfactory capacity of 430.40 mAh g(-1) after long 550 cycles can be delivered. Ex situ X-ray diffraction study suggests that the Sb2Se3/rGO composite follows the combined Li+ intercalation, conversion reaction and alloying reaction mechanism. These features suggest the Sb2Se3/rGO composite a viable choice for application as an anode material in high-performance LIBs. (C) 2017 The Electrochemical Society. All rights reserved.</P>

      • APMD: A fast data transmission protocol with reliability guarantee for pervasive sensing data communication

        Liu, Yuxin,Liu, Anfeng,Li, Yuxuan,Li, Zhetao,Choi, Young-june,Sekiya, Hiroo,Li, Jie Elsevier 2017 Pervasive and mobile computing Vol.41 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In pervasive sensing data communication systems, it is significant to ensure data reliably and rapidly sent to the control center. Otherwise, laggard data transmission may result in vital loss. An adaptive persistent m data (APMD) transmission protocol is proposed to reduce delay with reliability guarantee for pervasive sensing data communication systems. In APMD transmission protocol, each data packet is sent for m ( m ≥ 1 ) times by sender at the first time of transmission. If the data packet cannot be received successfully for m times, sender will transmit this data packet again and wait for ACK sent back by receiver in the send and wait way. The next data packet will not be sent until this packet is sent successfully or the time of transmission reaches the maximum limit. The option of appropriate value of m is based on the energy situation, which guarantees high network lifetime. Both theoretical analysis and experimental simulation results indicate that the APMD protocol is better than the previous data transmission protocol. The delay can be reduced by 12.73%–14.78%, the energy utilization rate can be improved by about 35% compared to the SW-ARQ protocol, while the reliability increases slightly and the lifetime has no difference.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> A fast data transmission protocol is proposed for pervasive sensing. </LI> <LI> The high reliability can be guaranteed in our protocol. </LI> <LI> The delay can be reduced by 12.73%–14.78% compare to previous studies in our protocol. </LI> <LI> The energy utilization can be enhanced by 35%. </LI> </UL> </P>

Efficient photodegradation of volatile organic compounds by iron-based metal-organic frameworks with high adsorption capacity

        Li, Ping,Kim, Sungsoon,Jin, Jie,Do, Hyung Chun,Park, Jong Hyeok Elsevier BV 2020 Applied Catalysis B Vol.263 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The efficient removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is still challenging, and suitable strategies and auxiliary materials are lacking. Herein, we propose a highly efficient and stable iron-based metal-organic framework (Fe-MOF) in which the adsorption removal and photodegradation regeneration step alternate to realize repeatable and efficient removal of VOCs. A group of morphology-controlled Fe-MOFs serves as both the adsorbent and photocatalyst under ambient conditions to remove typical VOCs, <I>e.g</I>., toluene by relying on their high porosity and catalytic activity. The optimized Fe-MOF exhibits 100% adsorption removal efficiency for a toluene concentration of 460 ppm, and the Fe-MOF could be regenerated by converting the adsorbed toluene into harmless CO2 under 1 SUN (100 mW/cm2) solar irradiation. Yan, Changzeng,Xue, Xiaolan,Zhang, Wenjun,Li, Xiaojie,Liu, Juan,Yang, Songyuan,Hu, Yi,Chen, Renpeng,Yan, Yaping,Zhu, Guoyin,Kang, Zhenhui,Kang, Dae Joon,Liu, Jie,Jin, Zhong unknown 2017 Nano energy Vol.39 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>To produce hydrogen and oxygen from photocatalytic overall splitting of pure water provides a promising green route to directly convert solar energy to clean fuel. However, the design and fabrication of high-efficiency photocatalyst is challenging. Here we present that by connecting different nanostructures together in a rational fashion, components that cannot individually split water into H2 and O2 can work together as efficient photocatalyst with high solar-to-hydrogen (STH) energy conversion efficiency and avoid the use of any sacrificial reagent. Specifically, Te/SnS2/Ag artificial nanoleaves (ANLs) consist of ultrathin SnS2 nanoplates grown on Te nanowires and decorated with numerous Ag nanoparticles. The appropriate band structure of Te/SnS2 p-n junctions and the surface plasmon resonance of Ag nanoparticles synergistically enhance the quantum yield and separation efficiency of electron-hole pairs. As a result, Te/SnS2/Ag ANLs enable visible-light driven overall water-splitting without any sacrificial reagent and exhibit high H2 and O2 production rates of 332.4 and 166.2μmolh−1, respectively. Well-preserved structure after long-term measurement indicates its high stability. It represents a feasible approach for direct H2 production from only sunlight, pure water, and rationally-designed ANL photocatalysts.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Te/SnS2/Ag ANLs heterostructure is prepared to catalyze overall water splitting. </LI> <LI> The catalyst show impressive H2 and O2 production rate under visible light. </LI> <LI> The structure and efficiency of catalyst shows no degradation after 10 days. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Advances in CRISPR-Cas systems for RNA targeting, tracking and editing

        Wang, Fei,Wang, Lianrong,Zou, Xuan,Duan, Suling,Li, Zhiqiang,Deng, Zixin,Luo, Jie,Lee, Sang Yup,Chen, Shi Elsevier 2019 BIOTECHNOLOGY ADVANCES Vol.37 No.5

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat (CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated protein (Cas) systems, especially type II (Cas9) systems, have been widely used in gene/genome targeting. Modifications of Cas9 enable these systems to become platforms for precise DNA manipulations. However, the utilization of CRISPR-Cas systems in RNA targeting remains preliminary. The discovery of type VI CRISPR-Cas systems (Cas13) shed light on RNA-guided RNA targeting. Cas13d, the smallest Cas13 protein, with a length of only ~930 amino acids, is a promising platform for RNA targeting compatible with viral delivery systems. Much effort has also been made to develop Cas9, Cas13a and Cas13b applications for RNA-guided RNA targeting. The discovery of new RNA-targeting CRISPR-Cas systems as well as the development of RNA-targeting platforms with Cas9 and Cas13 will promote RNA-targeting technology substantially. Here, we review new advances in RNA-targeting CRISPR-Cas systems as well as advances in applications of these systems in RNA targeting, tracking and editing. We also compare these Cas protein-based technologies with traditional technologies for RNA targeting, tracking and editing. Finally, we discuss remaining questions and prospects for the future.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> RNA targeting and editing are becoming increasingly important </LI> <LI> CRISPR-Cas systems are advancing for RNA targeting, tracking and editing </LI> <LI> The type VI CRISPR-Cas systems are useful for RNA-guided RNA targeting </LI> <LI> Use of Cas9 and Cas13 will advance RNA-targeting technologies </LI> </UL> </P>
