        Methodological Study on the Evaluation of Face Mask Use Scale among Public Adult: Cross-Language and Psychometric Testing

        Purpose: This study aimed to establish the translation adequacy and examine the psychometric properties of FaceMask Use Scale (FMUS). Methods: This methodological study employed a cross-sectional design with repeatedmeasures. Phase 1 examined the equivalence and relevance of English and Chinese versions of FMUS. Phase2 examined the internal consistency, stability and construct validity. Different sample batches (213 universitystudents and 971 general public) were used appropriately for psychometric testing. The 2-phase data were collectedbetween January and April 2017. Results: In Phase 1, the semantic equivalence and relevance (item- and scale-levelcontent-validity-index=100%) was satisfactory. Furthermore, from 133 paired test-retest responses, the quadraticweighted kappa (.53~.73, p<.001) and Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC=.81) between the English andChinese version of FMUS were satisfactory. In Phase 2, FMUS demonstrated satisfactory internal consistency(Cronbach's ⍺=.80~.81; corrected item-total correlation coefficients=.46~.67) and two-week test-retest stability(ICC=.84). The known-groups method (t=3.08, p<.001), exploratory (71.10% of total variance in two-factor model)and confirmatory factory analysis (x2/df=4.02, Root Mean Square Residual=.03, Root Mean Square Error ofApproximation=.06, Goodness of Fit Index=.99, Comparative Fit Index=.99) were all satisfactory for establishingthe construct validity. Conclusion: The FMUS has an equivalence Chinese and English versions, satisfactoryreliability and validity for measuring the practice of face mask use. This poses clinical and research implications forthose community health nurses who works on respiratory protection. Further research should be conducted on the‘negligent practice' of FMU.

        Biology and predatory ability of the reduviid Sycanus falleni Stal (Heteroptera: Reduviidae: Harpactorinae) fed on four different preys in laboratory conditions

        The reduviid Sycanus falleni Stal (Heteroptera: Reduviidae) is an important predatory insect in biological control pests in vegetable, soybean, corn and rice plants. It is omnivorous species and has a wide range of prey. The influence of fed on four different preys as Pieris rapae (Linnaeus), Spodoptera litura (Fabricius), Plutela xylostella (Linnaeus) and Corcyra cephalonica (Stainton) on biological parameters, ability to eat prey and body weight of the nymph and adult of S. falleni were evaluated in laboratory conditions (26 ± 2 °C, 75 ± 5% RH and light:dark 14:10 h) in Vietnam. The biological parameters of reduviid S. falleni reared on the laboratory were determined by observing the development stage of egg, development stage of nymph, pre-oviposition period, life cycle, longevity of adult, number of eggs laid, sex ratio. The nymph and adults of reduviid S. falleni consumption the number of P. xylostella, P. rapae, S. litura and C. cephalonica larvae were different, and an adult female consumed more than an adult male while the body weight of the I and V nymphal instars, male and female adults of reduviid S. falleni wasn't significantly different (P < 0.01).

        Early results of bidirectional cone sutures for mid-face lifting in Asian patients

        Background: There are intrinsic difference facial aesthetics between Asian and Caucasian, as well as racial differences in beauty standards. Bi-directional cones threads are effective in mid-face lifting but there was yet no study in Asians. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effects on mid-face laxity the effect size of using bidirectional cone suture for facelifting in Asian patients. Methods: In this prospective study, three pairs of bidirectional cone threads were used for mid-face lifting in 10 healthy volunteers with mild-to-moderate facial laxity. Results: The validated assessment parameters used in the study were the facial laxity rating scale (FLRS) to evaluate the severity of mid-face laxity and the wrinkle severity rating scale (WSRS) to assess the severity of the nasolabial fold (NLF). Overall, there was a substantial improvement in mid-face laxity and the NLF after thread lifting, supported by treatment effect size (Kendall W's value: 0.96 and 0.85, respectively). Significant improvements for both mid-face laxity and NLF were observed in all patients by 3 months (p<0.05), with significant differences in FLRS (p=0.000) and WSRS (p=0.001). At each follow-up, all patients would complete a selfadministered questionnaire that included the subjective satisfaction rating scale. The results showed that patient satisfaction was substantially improved; the differences between baseline and the 6-week and 3-month follow-up were significant (p<0.05), and the treatment effect size was W=0.950 (p<0.05). All subjects tolerated the procedure well with transient and minimal side effects. Conclusion: In Asians with mild-to-moderate laxity, absorbable cones sutures produced considerable improvement in mid-face laxity and NLF within three months. The findings were consistent among the three reviewers and were statistically significant (p<0.05). Patient satisfaction was higher at the 6-week and 3-month follow-up compared to the baseline (p<0.05).

        Compact Hardware Multiple Input Multiple Output Channel Emulator for Wireless Local Area Network 802.11ac

        This paper proposes a fast-processing and low-cost hardware multiple input multiple output (MIMO) channel emulator. The channel emulator is an important component of hardware-based simulation systems. The novelty of this work is the use of sharing and pipelining functions to reduce hardware resource utilization while maintaining a high sample rate. In our proposed emulator, the samples are created sequentially and interpolated to ensure the sample rate is equal to the base band rate. The proposed 4 × 4 MIMO requires low-cost hardware resource so that it can be implemented on a single field-programmable gate array (FPGA) chip. An implementation on Xilinx Virtex-7 VX980T was found to occupy 10.47% of the available configurable slice registers and 12.58% of the FPGA's slice lookup tables. The maximum frequency of the proposed emulator is 758.064 MHz, so up to 560 different paths can be processed simultaneously to generate 560 × 758 million × 2 × 32 bit complex-valued fading samples per second.

        An Experimental Study of Reinforced Concrete Beams with Closely-Spaced Headed Bars

        The use of headed bars as opposed to standard 90- or 180-degree hooked bars in beam ends, beam-column joints or other steel congested areas for anchorage and bond has become more favorable due to the fact that steel congestion is often created by large bend diameters or crossties. This research mainly focuses on evaluating the code provisions regarding the use of headed bars. Nine simply supported rectangular concrete beams with headed longitudinal reinforcement were tested under a four-point monotonic loading system. The design clear spacing, which varies from 1.5 to 4.25 times the bar diameter, was the only parameter for the experimental investigation. The test results showed that the closely-spaced headed bars were capable of developing to full yield strength without any severe brittle concrete breakout cone or pullout failure. Bond along the bar was not sufficient due to the early loss of concrete integrity. However, the headed bars were effective for anchorage with no excessive moment capacity reduction. This implies that the clear spacing of about 2 times the bar diameter for headed bars may be reasonable to ensure the development of specified yield strength of headed bars and corresponding member design strength.

        Growth Inhibitors of Lettuce Seedlings from Curvibacter sp. GA75-1

        식물생장억제제의 분리와 동정을 위하여 500여 종의 토양미생물로부터 상추 유묘에 대하여 강한 저해활성을 나타내는 미생물 균주 GA75-1을 선발하였다. 이 균주는 16S rRNA의 핵산염기서열 분석결과, Curvibacter sp.로 동정되었다. 이 균주의 배양 여액에 대하여 dichloromethane, ethyl acetate 및 butanol을 이용하여 순차적으로 분배한 다음, 강한 활성을 나타내는 butanol 가용성분획에 대하여 활성 지향형 분리를 통하여 화합물 1과 2의 두 가지 화합물을 분리하였다. 1과 2는 상추유묘의 뿌리 생장을 50㎎ L⁻¹에서 각각 56.8과 54.1% 저해하였으며, 줄기생장을 22.5 및 47.3% 저해하였다. 1과 2는 ¹H-NMR과 EI-MS 분석을 통하여 각각 uracil과 4-methoxybenzoic acid로 동정되었다. 1과 2는 50% 뿌리성장 저해농도 (IC₅₀) 값이 48.4와 49.1㎎ L⁻¹이었으며, 줄기에 대하여는 IC₅₀값이 각각 > 100.0와 51.3㎎ L⁻¹이었다. Uracil 유도체는 매우 잘 알려진 제초제 군에 속하나 uracil 자체에 대한 제초활성은 본 보고가 처음이며, 4-methoxybenzoic acid가 상추유묘에 대한 저해제로서 Curvibacter sp.에서 분리 보고된 것도 이번이 처음이다. 상기 화합물을 함유하는 Curvibacter sp. GA75-1은 식물의 도복 방지제, 또는 생물농약으로 이용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. The microbial strain GA75-1, which exhibited growth inhibitory activity on lettuce seedlings, was selected out of more than five hundred bacterial colonies by pot experiment for isolation and identification of plant growth retardants. The strain was identified as Curvibacter sp. by the nucleotide sequence of the 16S rRNA gene. The culture broth was consecutively partitioned with dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, and butanol. The bioassay-guided fractionation of butanol extract led to the isolation of compound 1 and 2 which inhibited 56.8 and 54.1% of lettuce root elongation and 22.5 and 47.3% of shoot growth at 50 ㎎ L⁻¹, respectively. From ¹H NMR and EI-MS spectra, 1 and 2 were identified as uracil and 4-methoxybenzoic acid, respectively. The concentrations of uracil and 4-methoxybenzoic acid required for 50% inhibition of root were 48.4 and 49.1 ㎎ L⁻¹ and of shoot were > 100.0 and 51.3 ㎎ L⁻¹, respectively. Uracil derivatives are one of very well-known herbicide groups; however, this is the first report on the herbicidal effect of uracil itself on lettuce. In addition, 4-methoxybenzoic acid is firstly isolated from the genus C. lanceolatus as an inhibitor of lettuce seedling growth. C. lanceolatus containing the above compounds is expected to be useful as the lodging-preventer and/or biotic herbicide.
