      • 접촉성 피부염 환자와 정상인의 첩포검사에 관한 연구

        Numerous studies on epidemiological aspects of contact dermatitis due to various causative antigens have been reported n recent year in Korea. However, degree of sensitization in healthy persons was not reported till now in Korea. We have performed the patch test on patients with contact dermatitis and healthy persons. The study results were as follows; 1. Percent of positive reaction in patients with contact dermatitis was 45.9%. The common allergens of positive reactions were nickel sulfate(21.6%), potassium dichromate (10.8%), neomycin sulfate (8.1%), Balsam of Peru (8.1%), mercuric chloride, ammoniated (5.4%), p-phenylenediamine(5.4%), cinnamic alcohol(5.4%), ethylenediamine dihydrochloride (2.7%), formaldehyde(2.7%), wool wax alcohol(2.7%), thimerosal (2.7%), mercaptobenzothiazole(2.7%), imidazolidinyl urea(2.7%) in order of frequency. 2. Percent of positive reaction in healthy persons was 10.3% and the common allergens were mercuric chloride, ammoniated(5.2%), nickel sulfate(3.1%), cinnamic alcohol(2.1%), ethylenediamine dihydrochloride(1.0%), formaldehyde(1.0%), epoxy resin(1.0%), in order of frequency. We conclude that allergens associated with metals and drugs seem to be the dominant causes of contact dermatitis and healthy persons.

      • 백반증의 PUVA치료반응에 관한 연구(제1보)

        The authors evaluated response to PUVA therapy in 44 vitiligo petients who did'nt show the spontaneous re-pigmentation. In the responded group to PUVA therapy after systemic administration of 8-methoxy psoralen, average MPD of female patients was 3.4 times higher than males, interestingly. Number of irradiation of UVA was similar between male and female, but total doses of female patients group were about 2 times than males till the first re-pigmented spots were noted. The response to PUVA therapy was quite different according to duration of disease and site of lesion. Therefore, we suppose that it is necessary to consider sex of patient, duration of disease, location of vitiligo before making a plan of PUVA therapy.

      • Vibrio parahemolyticus에 대한 한방처방 [方藥合編] 및 그 단미제의 항균활성에 관한 연구

        Vibrio are become prevailing if superficial temperature of ocean is raised and their activities of area are expanded and most of ocean creatures (fishes, oysters etc) are polluted with vibrio. The one who has taken these polluted fishes and aysters uncooked caused foodpoisoning and diarrhea from Vibrio. Frequencise of these diseases breakout is disposed in westsea shore of Korea. According to ancient and traditional Korean medical book -『Bangyak Happyeon』(Collection of Local Medicines, 1884) - and their single prescibes, we carried out experiment check the activities of natural medicinal effects on Vibrio parahemolyticus. The prescriptions of trial materials are processed from extraction boiling water and 80% methanol and followed freeze dried and adsorbed to every discs in dosage of 10mg. Gentamycin of 10mg were used for control. The result of compound prescription displayed special diseases in antimicrobial activities of boiling water and MeOH extraction compared with control. In compound prescription, extraction MeOH of Sashinhwan(clear zone : 17mm) presented extraordinaire antimicrobial activity. In single prescription, extraction of boiling water (clear zone : 16mm) and MeOH(clear zone : 18mm) of Fructus Chebulae presented extraordinaire antimicrobial activity. The MBC of Fructus Chebulae extracts was expressed in boiling water (1.28mg/ml) and MeOH(0.64mg/ml).

      • 토끼에서 고콜레스테롤혈증과 관련된 병변의 병리조직학적 관찰

        Histopathological observation on the hypercholesterolemia induced lesions in rabbits was performed. Nineteen NZW male rabbits were divided into model and control group. model group was served as hypercholesterolemic group, which was fed with 1% cholesterol diet for 8weeks and with normal diet for next 4weeks. Animals were sacrificed at 8 and 12weeks and histopathological examinations were performed on the aorta, heart, liver, kidney, spleen and brain. Lipid deposition area of thoracic aorta of model group was 76.41±7.43% at 8weeks and 71.30±12.7% at 12weeks. Early atheromatous lesions were observed at 8weeks and typical advanced atheroma were developed at 12week in intima of aorta. A lot of the bracnches of the coronary artery were hyaline arteriolosclerotic or atheromatous arteriolosclerotic. Massive myocardial necrosis associated with arteriolosclerotic branches of coronary artery was observed at 8eeks. Lipid laden foam cells were observed in glomeruli, in interstitium of kidney, in choroid plexus and in reticuloendothelial cells of spleen.

        Undergraduate courses for enhancing design ability in naval architecture

        Contemporary lectures in undergraduate engineering courses typically focus on teaching major technical knowledge-based theories in a limited time. Therefore, most lectures do not allow the students to gain understanding of how the theories are applied, especially in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering departments. Shipyards require students to acquire practical ship design skills in undergraduate courses. To meet this requirement, two lectures are organized by the authors; namely, “Planning Procedure of Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering” (PNAOE) and “Innovative Ship Design” (ISD). The concept of project-based and collaborative learning is applied in these two lectures. In the PNAOE lecture, sophomores receive instruction in the designing and building of model ships, and the students’ work is evaluated in a model ship contest. This curriculum enables students to understand the concepts of ship design and production. In the ISD lecture, seniors learn how to develop their creative ideas about ship design and communicate with members of group. They are encouraged to cooperate with others and understand the ship design process. In the capstone design course, students receive guidance to facilitate understanding of how the knowledge from their sophomore or junior classes, such as fluid mechanics, statics, and dynamics, can be applied to practical ship design. Students are also encouraged to compete in the ship design contest organized by the Society of Naval Architects of Korea. Moreover, the effectiveness of project-based and collaborative learning for enhancing interest in the shipbuilding Industry and understanding the ship design process is demonstrated by citing the PNAOE and ISD lectures as examples.

      • Implementation of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Level Prediction Processor using Aptamer Biochip

        In the developed country, cardiovascular disease (CVD) has considerably affected in a notice of death. In recent study, 40% of the disease mortality is related with CVD in the case of United States. Because of dangerousness of CVD, there is the growth of need that the method predicts whether some patient has CVD. To meet those need, there are so many efforts include our study. In our study, we propose the efficient diagnosis system to cover public people with cheap medical fee. The processor use aptamer biochip which is manufactured by Geno Prot Inc. to generate test pattern. This aptamer biochip is used for detection of specific protein included in patient’s serum. We can get abbreviated test set by using hypernetwork model. And then the processor generates CVD prediction results with the reduced data and only spends minimal processing time. The proposed CVD processor is verificated through Xilinx FPGA. The results show that the processor is well qualified as CVD diagonosis processor.

        Stent-Assisted Angioplasty for Symptomatic Middle Cerebral Artery Stenosis:Short-term Arteriographic and Clinical Outcome

        Objective:Stent-assisted angioplasty is an effective treatment modality in the coronary and peripheral arterial disease, however, its efficacy for intracranial atherosclerotic disease has not been verified. We assess the treatment outcome of stent-assisted angioplasty for symptomatic middle cerebral artery (MCA) stenosis. Methods : We performed stent-assisted angioplasty in 12 patients with symptomatic high-grade stenosis(>60%) on the proximal portion of the MCA, who had either recurrent transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) resistant to medical therapy or perfusion problems. Patient records were analyzed for angiographic characteristic, degree of stenosis, preprocedural regimen of antiplatelet and/or anticoagulation agents, used devices, procedure-related complications, and clinical and radiographic outcomes. Results : Stent-assisted angioplasty was successfully performed in 8 patients without any serious complications. Two patients had arterial rupture. One of two patients was rescued by an additional stenting and balloon tamponade, and the other patient was dead. Another complications among the 2 patients included thrombotic occlusion and distal thrombosis. Residual stenosis was less than 50% in diameter in all the patients. During follow-up period (mean, 11 months), stroke attacks including TIAs did not recur in 9 of 11 patients who had experienced intractable TIAs or strokes. All of 8 patients who underwent follow-up cerebral angiography had no restenosis. Conclusion : Stent-assisted angioplasty for refractory and symptomatic MCA stenosis is a relatively safe and effective procedure. It can be used to prevent recurrent TIAs or strokes in selected patients. Key words:Angioplasty;Arterial stenosis;Endovascular therapy;Intracranial stent;Middle cerebral artery.

      • Economic Optimization Study for a $125,000m^3$ Class LNG Carrier

        This study is concerned with the economic aspects of $125,000m^3$ class LNG carriers with different propulsion plant such as conventional steam turbine and slow speed diesel engine with reliquefaction plant. The ship's speed and L/B ratio were optimized with criterion of required freight rate(RFR) by using the PROCAL computer program package. In order to investigate the effect of fuel oil price, round trip distance and boil-off rate on the RFR and the optimum speed, sensitivity analysis were also performed.
