        Fabrication and High-Temperature Compressive Behavior of Unique Multi-Sheet Stacked Block Ni–Cr–Al Metallic Foam

        Large unique block Ni–Cr–Al superalloy foam was fabricated using a combination method of powder-alloying, multi-sheetstacking, and hot compression processes. Subsequently, the compressive properties and deformation behaviors of multi-sheetstacked block metallic foam were investigated from room temperature to 1073 K. The analysis of the resulting structuralcharacteristics of the block foam showed that the interfaces between the sheets have complex strut interactions, such ascontacted (deformed) and intersected struts. The relative density was measured as 2.93% for sheet foam and 4.90% for blockfoam. The compressive deformation of sheet and block Ni–Cr–Al foams showed the typical compressive stress–strain curvesof plastically deformable metallic foams regardless of foam type. However, different deformation behaviors in the plateauregions were detected based on the type of foam. It is noteworthy that the yield strength of block foam showed a relativelylower value than that of sheet foam, even though the block foam had higher relative density. The existence of unique interfacesin the multi-sheet stacked block foam may have affected strength and plastic deformation. Finally, distinct compressivebehaviors related to the structural and microstructural characteristics of block Ni–Cr–Al foam are discussed.

      • Interleukin-2가 Mouse 자궁선상피세포의 미세구조에 미치는 영향

        It is well known that the endometrium of uterus changes histologically during the estrous cycle in rodents. Interleukin-2, a kind of lymphokine produced by the T lymphocyte activated by antigen or mitogen, induces antitumor effect by stimulating the proliferation of helper and cytotoxic T lymphocytes, augmenting the cytolytic activities of the cytotoxic T lymphocyte and differentiating a precursor cell into a lymphokine-activated killer cel in vivo. Although interleukin-2 suppresses the metastasis of the malignant tumor into the adjacent organs and the tumor itself, it develops many side effects including fever, chills and decreased hepatic functions. Interleukin-2 also causes increase of capillary permeability with weight gain, pulmonary edema and ascites. In this experiment, the author studied the effect of interleukin-2 on the mouse uterine glandular cells, observing electron microscopically the changes in cytoplasmic organelles of uterine glandular epithelial cells in mice. Totals of 20 healthy female mice, DDY strain, weighing about 20 gm and exhibiting normal estrous cycle, were used as experimental animals were injected with 2 million units of interleukin-2 diluted in 0.2ml distilled water per kg of body weight and with 0.2ml of normal saline per kg of body weight in the control group for 5 days. And animals were sacrificed at 5th day after administration of interleukin-2. The specimens obtained from te corpus uteri were pre-fixed in 2% glutaradehyde-2.5% paraformaldehyde buffered in Millonig's phosphate solution (pH 7.2) and post-fixed in the 1% osmium tetroxide. After dehydration the specimens were embedded in Epon 812. Ultrathin sections, 600-800A in thickness, were made and double stained with uranyl acetate and lead citrate. And these preparations were observed with the electron microscope. The results obtained were as follows. 1. Microvilli were reduced and microfilaments in microvilli were degenerated. 2. The pronounced dilatation, sacculation and fragmentation of the cisternae of rough endoplasmic reticulum was associated with detachment of the membrane-bound ribosomes. 3. The formation of secondary lysosomes such as autophagic vacuoies and multivesicular bodies were observed. 4. Cristae of the some mitochondria were arranged irregularly and dissociated. Consequently, the results obtained in the present study suggest that interleukin-2 appears to be cytotoxic to the uterine glandular cells of the mouse and induces the degenerative changes of the uterine glandular cells.

      • 위발성 위장관 악성림프종 환자에서 항암치료의 효과

        Purpose: The gastrointestinal (GI) tract is the most common site of extranodal non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), which is increasing in incidence, but there is no established optimal treatment modality. Thus, this study was investigated the clinicohistologic feature, the therapeutic modalities, and the prognosis for GI-NHL, as well as the factors affecting it. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 45 patients who had been diagnosed as having GI-NHL and had been followed up from July 1994 to February 2005 at Soonchunhyang University Hospital. The patients were divided into groups according to the site of origin and to various other features, and the survivals of the various groups were compared. The modified Ann Arbor system and WHO classification were adopted for staging and histopathologic classification, respectively. Results: GI-NHL of the stomach, small bowel, ileocecal region, and colon occurred in 28 patients (62.2%), 5 patients (11.1%), 3 patients (6.7%), and 8 patients (17.8%), respectively, In one patient, the entire gastrointestinal tract was diffusely involved. The median age of patients was b5 years (25~78 years), and male-to-female ratio was 1:1.1. Fourteen patients were in stage Ⅰ, 24 in stage Ⅱ, 4 in stage Ⅲ, and 3 in stage Ⅳ. Surgical resection was performed in 19 patients, and combination chemotherapy was performed in 43 patients. Surgical resection only was performed in 4 patients, Chemotherapy only was performed in 26 patients. The expected overall 5 year survival of 45 patients was 39.6%, and there was a significant survival difference between the stages, but between sites of origin (p=0.842). The most important factors influencing the survival was the stage and other factors were not significant. Conclusion: The stomach was the most common site of GI-NHL. Most GI-NHL were localized Stage was the most important prognostic factor. However, Prospective randomized studies are needed to approve the therapeutic modality.

        Interleukin-2, a kind of lymphokine produced by the T-lymphocyte stimulated by antigen or mitogen, has been studied intensively with the development of immuno-oncology and chemoimmunotherapy of the malignancy. Interleukin-2 is known to exert on antitumor effect by stimulating the proliferation of helper and cytotoxic T lymphocytes, augmenting the cytolytic activities of the cytotoxic T lymphocyte and differentiating a precursor cell into a lymphokine-activated killer cell in vivo. Though interleukin-2 suppresses the metastasis of the malignant tumor into the adjacent organs, it develops many side effects including fever, chills, malaise, mental confusion, diarrhea, vomiting and oliguria. Interleukin-2 also causes pulmonary, hepatic and renal toxicities and, especially, increase of capillary permeability with weight gain, pulmonary edema and ascites. In this experiment, the author studied the effect of interleukin-2 on the mouse endometrium, observing histochemically the changes in the activity of acid phosphatase following the estrous cycle. Female, DDY strain, weighing 20gm and exhibiting normal estrous cycle, were used as experimental animals. The estrous cycle was recognized by the vaginal smear. The experimental animals were treated with 2 million units of interleukin-2/0.2ml per Kg of body weight and with 0.2ml of normal saline per Kg of body weight in the control groups for 5 days. And animals were sacrificed 5th day after administration of interleukin-2. The specimens obtained from the corpus uteri were fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin solution for 24 hours at 4℃ and sliced at 14μm thickness in a frozen cryostat. The activity of acid phosphatase was observed by the Gomori's method for histochemical study. The result obtained was as follows: The acid phosphatase activity was increased at estrus and decreased at diestrus in interleukin-2 treated group. There was, however, no marked differences in acid phosphatase activity of the proestrus and metestrus between control and interleukin-2 treated groups. Consequently, it was suggested that interleukin-2 develop the changes of the acid phosphatase of the endometrium of the mouse.

        문학적 전범으로서의 『춘추좌전(春秋左傳)』 인식에 관한 일고(一考) - 17세기 초 고문(古文) 학습관과 서적 편찬-

        17세기 초 조선에서는 先秦兩漢의 문장을 모범으로 하는 擬古文에 대한 관심이 증가하면서, 『春秋左傳』에 대한 문학적 논의가 크게 증가했다. 崔鳴吉, 張維 등 당대 의고문에 관심을 가진 작가들 뿐 아니라, 의고문에 비판적이었던 李植조차도 『좌전』을 문학 학습의 수단으로 보는 등, 『좌전』의 문학적 제고는 문학관과 당파를 초월한 시대정신이었다. 특히 『좌전』을 外書로 지칭한 최명길의 시각은 후대의 春秋大義에 입각한 『좌전』 이해와는 크게 달랐다. 17세기 초의 문학적 분위기는 서적 편찬에도 영향을 주었다. 官學의 입장에서 주석을 집대성하고자 한 조선 전기 좌전학, 춘추대의의 강화를 위해 朱熹의 『춘추』 주석을 집대성하고 『通鑑綱目』의 綱目體를 모방하고자 한 조선 후기 좌전학과 달리, 17세기 초에는 순수 古文 선집으로서의 『좌전』 관련 서적이 편찬되었다. In the early 17th century Chosŏn, interest in pseudoclassical writingwhich modeled pre-Qin and Han period works-had increased. Zuozhuan was recognized as a literary model accordingly. This acknowledgment was a zeitgeist that spread beyond political factions and literary circles. Not only Ch'oe Myŏngkil and Chang Yu-who had a positive opinion on pseudoclassicism-but also Yi Sik-who opposed pseudoclassical movementconsidered Zuozhuan as a literature textbook. Especially, Ch'oe considered Zuozhuan as "an auxiliary text." This opinion is completely different from an orthodox understanding based on the ideology of "the great cause in Chunqiu" in late Chosŏn. The zeitgeist greatly affected publications in the Chosŏn era. Early 17th century anthologies-Yu Mongin's Taega Munhoe for example-included Zuozhuan as important classical literature. This brief change is noticeable between the early Chosŏn compilations of annotations for the official study and the late Chosŏn adaptations of Zhu Xi's Zizhi Tongjian Gangmu and reconstructions of his Zuozhuan scholarship in attempts to emphasize "the great cause."

      • 재발 또는 불응성 비호즈킨 림프종 환자에서 CDME 구제항암화학요법 후 고용량 항암화학요법 및 자가말초혈액 조혈모세포이식의 효과

        Background and objectives : The long-term survival in patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) after conventional dose chemotherapy is about 35% and the rest of the patients tend to have relapse. So, in relapsed or refractory NHL, we compared the outcome of patients undergoing high-dose chemotherapy with autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation(APBSCT) with only salvage chemotherapy of cisplatin, dexamethasone, mitoxantrone, and etoposide(CDME). Materials and methods : From June 1993 to December 1999, 25 patients with relapsed or resistant NHL were treated with CDME regimen as salvage chemotherapy. Twelve patients were received four cycles of CDME chemotherapy, and 13 patients were received high-dose chemotherapy with APBSCT following two cycles of CDME chemotherapy. Results : The median follow-up duration was 12.8 months(range:4-68). The overall response rate was 41.7% (complete response rate 25%, partial response rate 16.7%) in 12 patients with CDME only. Thirteen patients who were treated with high-dose chemotherapy with APBSCT achieved 61.5% complete response rate and 15.4% partial response rate, with an overall response rate of 76.9%. The estimated 3-year progression-free survival rate was significantly higher among patients who received high-dose therapy than patients who received CDME only(41.5% vs 20.0%, p<0.05). And, 3-year overall survival rate was significantly higher among patients who received high-dose therapy(51.3% vs 25.0%, p <0.05). Conclusions : In relapsed or refractory NHL, CDME chemotherapy is an effective salvage chemotherapy and allow peripheral blood stem cell collection. Also, high-dose chemotherapy with APBSCT following CDME is superior to CDME salvage chemotherapy only.

      • 흉선종 제거후에 발생한 재생 불량성 빈혈 : 증례보고

        Thymoma is associated with myasthenia gravis, Pure red cell aplasia, and autoimmune diseases such as autoimmune hemolytic anemia, aplastic anemia, and hypogammaglobulinemia. It's association with aplastic anemia is rare and aplastic anemia appearing after surgical removal of thymoma is especially rare. The authors hereby report a case of aplastic anemia occuring in a patient who was diagnosed with thymoma and myasthenia gravis and had the tumor surgically removed. The patient was treated with anti-thymocyte globulin, cyclosporin, and prednisolone, and showed partial remission with hematologic improvements after 12 months.

        PCR을 이용한 느타리버섯 재배사 물로부터 세균성갈색무늬병 병원균 Pseudomonas tolaasii 검출

        느타리 세균성갈색무늬병 병원균 P. tolaasii의 전염원을 파악하기 위하여 느타리 재배사에서 사용하고 있는 물로부터 PCR방법을 이용하여 병원세균을 검출한 결과, 주로 충북지방의 느타리 재배사에서 수집된 57개 물 시료 전체의 28.1%인 16개 물에는 ㎖당 1,000 cfu 이하의 일반 세균을 포함하고 있었으며, 54.4%인 31개의 시료가 1,001-10,000 cfu, 10.5%인 6개의 시료가 10,001-100,000 cfu, 그리고 7%인 4개의 시료가 100,001 cfu 이상의 세균을 포함하고 있었다. P. tolaasii의 경우 nested-PCR로 검출하였을 경우 전체의 5.3%인 3곳의 물이 Immunocapture-nested-PCR로 검출하였을 경우 전체의 35.1%인 20개의 물 시료로부터 P. telaasii 특이적 DNA가 증폭되었다. 물에 포함된 일반세균의 농도와 P. tolaasii 검출과는 상관없었다. 이상의 결과는 물로부터 병원균을 검출하는 방법으로 IC-nested-PCR 방법이 더 민감하고 우수한 방법이며, 여러 곳의 느타리 재배사에서 사용하고 있는 물이 병원균 P. telaasii으로 오염되어 있는 것을 제시하고 있다. Pseudomonas tolaasii causing brown blotch disease was detected by PCR from water samples collected from the oyster mushroom cultivation farms to find the contamination level of the pathogen in water. Sixteen water samples (28.1%) contain less than 1,000 cfu, 31 samples (54.4%) contain 1,001-10,000 cfu, 6 samples (10.5%) contain 10,001-100,000 cfu, and 4 samples (7%) contain of bacteria per milliliter. P. tolaasii-specific DNA band was amplified in 3 samples (5.3%) by nested-PCR and in 20 samples (35.1%) by immunocapture (IC)-nested PCR respectively. These results suggest that IC-nested-PCR was much more sensitive than nested-PCR in detection of P. tolaasii and a quite few waters using for oyster mushroom cultivation were contaminated with P. tolaasii.

      • Adriamycin이 Mouse 심근의 미세구조에 미치는 영향

        Adriamycin, one of the antibiotic anticancer drugs, has been isolated from the Streptomyces peucetius caesiue. It is known that adriamycin inhibits DNA and RNA synthesis, and has been widely used as an anticancer drug. But the drug has so little specificity toward the normal and tumor cells that it induces many toxicity, alopecia, bone marrow depression and ulcer. And adriamycin also alters the biological functions of the membrane by peroxidation of membrane unsaturated fatty acids. Therefore the author undertook the present study to pursue the effect of adriamycin on the cytoplasmic organelles of cardiac muscle cells. Albino mice,DDY strains, weighing 20gm were used as an experimental animals. The experimental animals were killed at 24 and 48 hours after administration of 15mg/kg of adriamycin. The specimens obtained from the left ventricle of the heart were prefixed in Millonig's solution and post-fixed in osmic acid. After dehydrating and embedding the specimens, ultrathin sections were made and double stained with uranyl acetate and lead citrate. And these preparations were observed with JEM 100cx0Ⅱ electron microscope. The results obtained were as follows. 1. Electron density at the Ⅰ-band was decreased due to the discontinuation and loss of myofibrils in the 24 hour adriamycin treated group, but changes of myofibrils were recovered in the 48 hour adriamycin treated group. 2. Cisternae of the sarcoplasmic reticulum were dilated, fragmented and its sacculated residues were found in the sarcolemma in the adriamycin treated group. 3. Mitochondria were swollen and their cristae were lost in the 12 hour adriamycin treated group, but mitochondria were recovered in the 48 hour adriamycin treated group. Consequently, it is suggested that adriamycin would induce the cellular toxicity in the cardiac muscle cells, but the toxicity would be recovered as the time goes by.
