Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry(ESPI) using the Model 95 Ar laser, a video system and an Image processor was applied to the in-plane displacement measurements. Unlike traditional strain gauges or Moire method, ESPI method requires no special surface preparation or attachments and can be measured in-plane displacement with no contact and real time. In this experiment specimen was loaded in parallel with a loadcell. The specimen was the cold rolled steel sheet of 2mm thickness. which was attached strain gauges. The study provides an example of how ESPI have been used to measure strain displacement in this specimen. The results measured by ESPI compare with the data which was measured by strain gauge method in tensile testing.

Objects-based coding algorithms segment image contents into set of objects or regions according to a given model and estimate their parameters like motion, shape, and color. It is known that object-based coding is more efficient coding method in videophone image sequence. It is difficult to detect moving object only using motion information. Chromaticity distribution of skin color is similar region independent of human race. This paper presents efficient image analysis method using both skin color and motion. The proposed algorithm is composed of facial region detection using skin color and region detection using motion information.

The objective of this thesis is to investigate the influence of the initial residual stress on the fatigue crack growth after the distribution of the initial residual stress is measured when the crack is growing from the compressive residual stress to the tensile residual stress field. In the case of as welded material, respective of load ratio, the span of the fatigue is the shortest in base metal, while in weld metal and HAZ, the crack growth was retarded due to the effect of the compressive residual stress at the crack tip as well as the span of the crack is longer than base metal. In region II that is in stable growth state of the fatigue crack, da/dN=C(ΔK)^m of power law was satisfied. Also, it was considered that the value of m is not affected by residual stress. Superimposing welding residual stress intensity factor K_res on ΔK, the value of ΔK_eff calculated was lower than ΔK in the same value of da/dN, while the ΔK_eff is almost the same at the high ΔK.

Free vibration of the tube bundle in a channel filled with stationary liquid is investigated. Added mass coefficients which are based on velocity potential theory are calculated and used to computing the natural frequencies and mode shapes of tube bundle in liquid. The natural frequencies of the tube bundle are obtained as a function of the spacing between tubes and verified by an experiment. The experimental results show good agreement with the computer predictions. As the spacing between the tubes is small, namely gap to diameter(G/D) becomes small, coupled natural frequencies are widely distributed. A wide spacing tube bundle goes the results of single tube in an infinite liquid.

In this paper, a new approach of stereo matching using genetic algorithm is presented to improve the depth reconstruction method. And the region information of the image is also used to treat various image sources. Genetic algorithms are efficient search methods based on principles of natural selection and population genetic. Genetic operators, such as crossover and mutation, are modified for matching environment. 2-D chromosome is used for the simple treatment of image signal. Since several constrains, defined as similarity and smoothness, are generally adopted to remove false matching candidates in stereo vision, the fitness function which identifies the fittest individual is formed by the constrains. In addition, the informed dispaeity generation and initial population based on intensity difference are applied to reduce the searching space of genetic operations. Experimental results show that the computation load is less than conventional matching methods with relaxation and relatively stable outputs are acquired.

Familial hypercholesterolemia is a common autosomal dominant disorder with serious health consequences such as the coronary heart disease, in western area affecting approximately 1 in 500 persons in the heterozygous form, is caused by a mutation in the gene for the LDL(low density lipoprotein) receptor. A-45-years old male came to the hospital because of tendon xanthomas on both elbows, knees, and ankles. He also has retrosternal chest pain intermittently since 5 years ago. 4 kindreds of the patient have tendon xanthomas according to autosomal dominant inheritance. Serum levels of total cholesterol and triglyceride were 359 ㎎/dL, 103 ㎎/dL respectively. Lipoprotein electrophoresis showed type Ⅱa pattern. Treadmill exercise test revealed angina pectoris. The case of familial hypercholesterolemia who has familial inheritance of tendon xanthoma is rarely reported in Korea. We report this case with a review of the related literature

The authors described a more different type of aneurysms in the distal anterior cerebral artery (DACA), which is difficult to approach surgically. There are anomalies of distal anterior cerebral artery in about one fourth and narrow space, which made more careful surgical dissection. We experienced 7 cases of DACA aneurysm, 6 cases of which were treated surgically through the interhemispheric approach via the unilateral frontal paramedian craniotomy on the non-dominant side. Surgical results were anatomical complexities, modem microsurgical technique aided by microscope make the approach more exactly and safely.

Mathematical morphology based on set theory is easy to be implemented in parallel and can be applied to various fields in image analysis. Morphological filters can be used effectively for medical and microscopic images to separate overlapping particles. In this paper, separation of overlapping particle image using morphological method is proposed. The extraction of unique marker per every particle and the reconstruction of separated particle from this marker image are done by erosion and conditional dilation, respectively. This approach has the advantages of efficient marker extraction, high separation accuracy, and parallel implementation.
