Ken Kumagai 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2023 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2023 No.07
Promotion of brand-related sustainability initiatives (BSI) is a modern managerial issue, as BSI seems to impact not only sustainability but also consumer psychology toward a brand. In this regard, the author has extended self-congruity theory and suggested the concept of brand-sustainability-self-congruence (BSSC) as the image congruence of the triad comprising brand, BSI, and self-concept. Former surveys report predictive effects of BSSC on consumers’ brand evaluation, leading to increased brand equity (Kumagai, 2022, 2023).

EFFECTS OF UV-B RADIATION ON GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF RICE CULTIVARS (ORYZA SATIVA L.).
Kumagai, T. Korean Society of Photoscience 1994 Journal of Photosciences Vol.1 No.2
Elevated near-UV radiation, containing a large amount of UV-B and a small amount of UV-C, inhibited the development of leaves and tillers, the increase in biomass production, the elongation of plant height, the photosynthetic rate and the chlorophyll content in rice plants in a phytotron. Elevated UV-B radiation filtered through cellulose diacetate film or UV-31 cut filter (transmission down to 290 nm) similarly suppressed each growth component above. Near-UV radiation-caused injuries were alleviated either by elevated CO$_2$ atmosphere or by exposure to high irradiance-visible radiation. On the basis of these findings, we examined cultivar differences in the resistance to UV radiation-caused injuries among 198 rice cultivars belonging to 5 Asian rice ecotypes ( aus, aman, boro, bulu and tjeleh) from the Bengal region and Indonesia and to Japanese lowland and upland rice groups. It was shown that .various cultivars having different sensitivities to the effects of near-UV radiation were involved in the same ecotype and the same group, and that the Japanese lowland rice group and the boro ecotype were more resistant. Among Japanese lowland rice cultivars, Sasanishiki (one of the leading varieties in Japan) exhibited more resistance to near-UV radiation, while Norin 1 showed less resistance, although these two cultivars are closely related. It was thus indicated that the resistance to the inhibitory effects of near-UV radiation of rice cultivars is not simply due to the difference in the geographical situation where rice cultivars are cultivated. From the genetic analysis of resistance to the inhibitory effects of UV radiation on growth of rice using F$_2$ plants generated by reciprocally crossing Sasanishiki and Norin 1 and F$_3$ lines generated by self-fertilizing F$_2$ plants, it was evident that the resistance to the inhibitory effects of elevated near-UV radiation in these rice plants was controlled by recessive polygenes.
A STUDY ON NUTRITIONAL STATUS OF MACRO MINERALS OF CATTLE IN JAVA IN INDONESIA
Kumagai, H.,Ishida, N.,Katsumata, H.,Yano, H.,Kawashima, R.,Jachja, J. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 1990 Animal Bioscience Vol.3 No.1
Nutritional status of cattle in Java in Indonesia was investigated by evaluating P, Ca, Mg, K and Na concentrations in forage and plasma inorganic phosphorus (Pi), Ca and Mg, hematocrit and hemoglobin concentrations of cattle during both rainy and dry seasons in 1988. Investigations were conducted at Jonggol (West Java), Malang (East Java) and Majokerto (East Java). Low P content in forage averaging 0.11% on a dry matter basis, high Ca:P ratio in forage in the rainy season (7.7:1) and low plasma Pi concentrations averaging 4.71 mg/dl were observed in Jonggol. In all three places, Ca content in forages was higher than the requirement according to the NRC standard and plasma Ca concentrations were above the critical level. During the rainy season forty percent of cattle in Malang and Mahokerto showed plasma Mg concentrations below 2mg/dl in spite of normal Mg and K content in forage. Forage samples from each place showed a wide variety in Na content, and Na content of two thirds of forage samples was lower than the requirement according to the NRC standard. Hematocrit and hemoglobin concentrations in Malang and Majokerto showed higher values than the normal range.

Type 310S stainless steel bipolar plate is investigated by means of single cell operated at several current densities for 500h. During the cell operations, the voltage decay is drastic at a lower current density (139mV at 0Acm-2), while the fluctuation is mitigated at a higher current density (21mV at 0.5Acm-2). The operation results are highly related to the surface conditions of bipolar plates, in particular, the cathode part. At the lower current density, the thickened layer mainly composed of iron oxide layers appears. Meanwhile, the outermost surface is enriched with thin chromium oxide layers when the higher current is applied. It is likely that the thick passive layer on the type 310S stainless steel increases the interfacial contact resistance between the gas diffusion layer and the bipolar plates of the cathode, thereby resulting in progressive voltage decay during the operation. Interestingly, general corrosion is not involved throughout the cell operation, confirming the superiority of type 310S stainless steel under the cell operation environment.
Moderating effect of brand commitment on apparel brand prestige in upward comparisons
Kumagai Ken,Nagasawa Shin’ya 한국마케팅과학회 2021 Journal of Global Fashion Marketing Vol.12 No.3
This study explores the location effect on consumers’ perceptions of a particular apparel brand’s prestige when a fashion store is operated adjacent to the apparel boutiques of other prestigious brands. It also aims to examine variations in this effect according to consumers’ brand commitment levels. Via a survey conducted in Japan, the influence of prestige disparity between a particular apparel brand and adjacent brands on perceived brand prestige was assessed across different store location frames. The data reveal that a consumer perceives a particular brand prestige to be higher than before when the prestige of its adjacent brand is moderately higher than its own (assimilation), while this effect disappears once the prestige disparity becomes large. The data also suggest that the assimilation effect is more obvious when a consumer’s calculative brand commitment is high, while the influence of his/her affective commitment level is insignificant. These results suggest that managers should assess whether the prestige disparity is adequate between their brands and adjacent ones and take note of calculative commitment levels of target consumers to predict the location effect on their brand equities.
Adaptive Responses to Electrophilic Stress and Reactive Sulfur Species as their Regulator Molecules
Kumagai, Yoshito,Akiyama, Masahiro,Unoki, Takamitsu Korean Society of ToxicologyKorea Environmental Mu 2019 Toxicological Research Vol.35 No.4
We are exposed to numerous xenobiotic electrophiles on a daily basis through the environment, lifestyle, and dietary habits. Although such reactive species have been associated with detrimental effects, recent accumulated evidence indicates that xenobiotic electrophiles appear to act as signaling molecules. In this review, we introduce our findings on 1) activation of various redox signaling pathways involved in cell proliferation, detoxification/excretion of electrophiles, quality control of cellular proteins, and cell survival during exposure to xenobiotic electrophiles at low concentrations through covalent modification of thiol groups in sensor proteins, and 2) negative regulation of reactive sulfur species (RSS) in the modulation of redox signaling and toxicity caused by xenobiotic electrophiles.
