Helminthic Zoonosis in Indonesia
Kosin, Eddy,Kosin, Linda INSTITUTE OF TROPICAL MEDICINE YONSEI UNIVERSITY 1992 YONSEI REPORTS ON TROPICAL MEDICINE Vol.23 No.1
Human cases of helminthic zoonosis found in Indonesia are reviewed. Thelazia callipaeda was found in a dog in 1931 and first human infection was reported by Kosin et al. in 1989. Five worms were taken out from the lower conjunctiva of a 10 month old boy's eye. Thirty-five cases of creeping eruption caused by eat and dog hookworms were treated with Albendazole tablets and ointment. The results were excellent and all causes cured within 3∼4 days. Eighteen human cases of Bertiella studeri were found in Indonesia. Most of the cases were children from Sumatra and Kalimantan. Orang-utan and silvered leaf monkey in Kalimatan were found infected naturally. Sparganosis is rare occurrence despite of heavy infection among the frogs. There cases were recorded in old literatures.

Background: Cancer is the most common cause of death in Thailand, where treatment outcomes and prognosis are poor and mortality rates remain high. This study reports new cancer cases and trends of all cancers registered in Srinagarind Hospital from 1993 to 2012 and also provides a picture of the cancer situation in Northeast Thailand. Materials and Methods: All new cases of cancer registered in the hospital-based cancer registry at Faculty of Medicine, Srinagarind Hospital, Khon Kaen University during 1993-2012 were included in the study. Results and Conclusions: The number of new cancer cases has gradually increased each year during the last 20 years. The three most common cancers at present in males are liver and bile duct cancer, lung cancer and colorectal cancer, respectively. In females, liver and bile duct, breast and thyroid cancers are now the most frequent. Interestingly, the number of cases of both liver and bile duct cancer and colorectal cancer in males noticeably increased during the second decade of the study. Additionally, breast cancer greatly increased in the same decade and lung cancer in females climbed into the top five most common cancers. Thyroid cancer has also risen steadily in the last decade. Trends of common cancers are similar to those throughout Thailand.
Fusion of Face and ID Cards Recognition for Person Identification
Chalermsak Sangkamanee,Kosin Chamnongthai 대한전자공학회 2015 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2015 No.6
In this paper we present a range of image processing techniques as potential pre-processing steps, which attempt to improve the performance of the Eigenface method of face recognition. Verification tests are carried out by applying thresholds to gather false acceptance rate (FAR) and false rejection rate (FRR) results from a data set comprised of images that present typical difficulties when attempting recognition, such as strong variations in lighting direction and intensity, partially covered faces and changes in facial expression. Results are compared using the equal error rate (EER), which is the error rate when FAR is equal to FRR. We determine the most successful methods of image processing to be used with eigenface based face recognition, in application areas such as security, surveillance, data compression and archive searching.
Analysis of Foot Strike Pattern During Walking
Phichate Sukklay,Kosin Chamnongthai 대한전자공학회 2017 대한전자공학회 학술대회 Vol.2017 No.1
Walking pattern is important for monitoring human walking, and needs to be always monitored during walking. This paper proposes an analysis method of foot strike pattern during walking using force information in order to monitor normal and abnormal gait. In this method, force sensors are installed on the forefoot and rearfoot (heel) foot for receiving walking force information, and the information is sent to processor via bluetooth in order to monitor and alarm in the case of abnormal gait. The information of force is finally used to classify normal and abnormal gaits by artificial neural network. To evaluate performance of the proposed method, experiments with normal and abnormal walking people reveal acceptable results.
Feasibility Analysis of OTA for Active Floating Inductor Based Application
Rawid Banchuin,Roungsan Chaisricharoen,Kosin Chamnongthai,Boonruk Chipipop 대한전자공학회 2009 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2009 No.7
In this research, the methodology for the feasibility analysis of any candidate OTA for being used in any active floating inductors based application, in the practical phenomena, has been proposed. The proposed methodology can accurately determine the feasibility of any candidate OTA before directly applied to the cited active inductor based application for the prevention of the unintentionally using the infeasible one. The up to dated CMOS technology has been focused in the research. According to its simplicity, this methodology has been found to be very convenience since it can be performed even by hand calculation. Hence, the proposed methodology has been found to be both very efficient and versatile.
Identification of Microaneurysms by Using Spatial Shade Correction and Wavelet Transform
Sukritta Paripurana,Werapon Chiracharit,Kosin Chamnongthai 대한전자공학회 2009 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2009 No.7
Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is a serious complication of diabetes. It causes to a loss of vision in diabetic patients. The earlier stage of DR is diagnosed, the more successful the patients will be cured. This paper proposes a method to indentify microaneurysms (MAs) in fundus image by using spatial shade correction and removal of vessels in wavelet domain. The spatial background is estimated and removed from the original image. Vessels are defined as the connected edges in directional wavelet subbands. The inversed transform image without vessel coefficients is then finally correlated to the shade corrected image. The output image show prominent microaneurysms.
Pig as a Favorable Intermediate Host of a Possible New Species of Taenia in Asia
Soh,Chin-Thack,Kosin,Eddy,Fan,Ping-Chin INSTITUTE OF TROPICAL MEDICINE YONSEI UNIVERSITY 1990 YONSEI REPORTS ON TROPICAL MEDICINE Vol.21 No.1
Although people in East Asia eat more raw and/or undercooked meat and viscera of pigs than cattle, Taenia saginata has been reported to be the dominant species and Cysticercus cellulosae in pigs has been found more often than Cysticercus bovis in cattle. In an attempt to understand these phenomena, eggs of the T.saginata-like tapeworms from Taiwan, Korea, Indonesia and Thailand were inoculated into various domestic and wild animals, and experimentally succeeded in infecting pigs and a few other animals. Rudimentary-hooklet-cysticerci were recovered only from the liver of these animals. Therefore, the pig is the most favorable laboratory intermediate host of these T. saginata-like tapeworms. Moreover, one wild boar on Taiwan proper and six pigs on Lanyu Island were also found naturally infected with rudimentary-hooklet-cysticerci in their livers. In addition to the experimental hosts and having 2 rows of rudimentary hooklets, these cysticerci have a shorter prepatent period and are smaller size than those of both T. saginata and T. solium. These results indicate that the pig is probably the most important intermediate host of four Asian strains of Taenia, which are very similar each others, but very different from both T. saginata and T. solium in the endemic areas of Asian countries. From the special epidemiological pattern and the results of experimental infection, we suggest that the T.saginata-like tapeworms in Asia can be considered as a new species.
