      • A FORECASTING METHOD FOR FOREST FIRES BASED ON THE TOPOGRAPHICAL CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM AND SPREADING SPEED OF FIRE

        On April 27,1993, a forest fire occurred in Morito-area, Manba-city, Gunma-prefecture Japan. Under the prevailing strong winds, the fire spread and extended to the largest scale ever in Gunma-prefecture. The author chartered a helicopter on May 5, one week after the fire was extinguished, and took aerial photos of tile damaged area, and investigated the condition. of the fire through field survey and data collection. The burnt area extended. over about 100 hectares, and the damage amounted to about 190 million yen (about two million dollar). The fire occurred at a steep mountainous area and under strong winds, therefore, md and topography strongly facilitated the spreading, It is the purpose of this paper to report a damage investigation of the fire and to develop the forecasting method of forest fires based on the topographical analysis and spreading speed of fire. In the first place, I analyze the topographical structure of the regions which became the bject of this study with some topographical factors, and construct a land form classification ap. Secondly, I decide the dangerous condition of each region in the land form classification map according to the direction of the wind and spreading speed of f'kre. In the present paper, I try to forecast forest fires in Morito area, and the basic results for the forecasting method of forest fires were obtained with the topographical classification system and spreading speed of fire.

        Organ Correlation in IgG4-Related Diseases

        IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a potentially multiorgan disorder. In this study, clinical and serological features from 132 IgG4-RD patients were compared about organ correlations. Underlying pathologies comprised autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) in 85 cases, IgG4-related sclerosing cholangitis (IgG4-SC) in 12, IgG4-related sialadenitis (IgG4-SIA) in 56, IgG4-related dacryoadenitis (IgG4-DAC) in 38, IgG4-related lymphadenopathy (IgG4- LYM) in 20, IgG4-related retroperitoneal fibrosis (IgG4-RF) in 19, IgG4-related kidney disease (IgG4-KD) in 6, IgG4-related pseudotumor (IgG4-PT) in 3. Sixty-five patients (49%) had multiple IgG4-RD (two affected organs in 36 patients, three in 19, four in 8, five in 1, and six in 1). Serum IgG4 levels were significantly higher with multiple lesions than with a single lesion (P < 0.001). The proportion of association with other IgG4-RD was 42% in AIP, the lowest of all IgG4-RDs. Serum IgG4 level was lower in AIP than in other IgG4-RDs. Frequently associated IgG4-RDs were SIA (25%) and DAC (12%) for AIP; AIP (75%) for IgG4-SC; DAC (57%), AIP (38%) and LYM (27%) for IgG4-SIA; AIP (26%) and LYM (26%) for IgG4-DAC; SIA (75%), DAC (50%) and AIP (45%) for IgG4-LYM; SIA (58%), AIP (42%) and LYM (32%) for IgG4-RF; AIP (100%) and SIA (67%) for IgG4-KID; and DAC (67%) and SIA (67%) for IgG4-PT. Most associated IgG4-RD lesions were diagnosed simultaneously, but IgG4-SIA and IgG4-DAC were sometimes identified before other lesions. About half of IgG4-RD patients had multiple IgG4-RD lesions, and some associations were seen between specific organs.

        Frontotemporal Craniotomy for Clipping of Unruptured Aneurysm Using a Diamond-Coated Thread Wire Saw and Reconstruction Using Calcium Phosphate Cement without Metal Fixation

        Metal fixation systems for cranial bone flaps cut by a drill are convenient devices for cranioplasty, but cause several complications. We use modified craniotomy using a fine diamond-coated threadwire saw (diamond T-saw) to reduce the bone defect, and osteoplasty calcium phosphate cement without metal fixation. We report our outcomes and tips of this method. A total of 78 consecutive patients underwent elective frontotemporal craniotomy for clipping of unruptured intracranial aneurysms between 2015 and 2019. The follow-up periods ranged from 13 to 66 months. The bone fixation state was evaluated by bone computed tomography (CT) and three-dimensional CT (3D-CT). The diamond T-saw could minimize the bone defect. Only one wound infection occurred within 1 week postoperatively, and no late infection. No pain, palpable/cosmetically noticeable displacement of the bone flap, fluid accumulations, or other complications were observed. The condition of bone fixation and the cosmetic efficacy were thoroughly satisfactory for all patients, and bone CT and 3D-CT demonstrated that good bone fusion. No complication typical of metal fixation occurred. Our method is technically easy and safety, and achieved good mid-term bone flap fixation in the mid-term course, so has potential for bone fixation without the use of metal plates.

        「 첩해신어(捷解新語) 」에 나타난 지역성에 대하여 : 한국어 대역문의 음운현상을 중심으로

        The main obj ect of this study is to contemplate the phonological phenomnena of Yeongnam province in Ch'oˇphaeshinoˇ(捷解新語). Also, this is to remove misunderstanding that Ch'oˇphaeshinoˇ(捷解新語) has been ply influenced by the linguistic reality of Seoul speech, despite its scene phonological features of Yeongnam province. In general, the phonological phen~nena such as 'T-palatalization', 'H-palatalization', 'N(L)-deletion', 'Rounded vowel' and 'Umlaut' in Ch'oˇphaeshinoˇ(捷解新語) are not always in Kyongsang Province. (※ In 1992, Professes Du-hyoun Baek insisted that 'N(L)-deletion', not in case of the beginning of a wed, had just appeared on Yeongnam's dialect) But, if we look into further details, it is possible to know that the phonological phenomena in this book had scene differences from that of Seoul speech in the degree of time and diffusion, at that time. In other weds, the phonological phenomena mentioned above actively appeared in Kyongsang Province before other areas. Accordingly, this study is pretty useful for the entire and precise understanding of the linguistic reality as to Ch'oˇphaeshinoˇ(捷解新語).

      • Fatty Chain Composition of Ether and Ester Glycerophospholipids in the Japanese Oyster Crassostrea gigas (Thunberg)

        The fatty chain compositions of 1-0-alk-1'-enyl-2-acyl, 1-0-alkyl-2-acyl, and 1,2-diacyl glycerophospholipids of the Japanese oyster Crassostrea gigas (Thunberg) were investigated. Major fatty chains in the sn-1 position of 1-alk-1'-enyl-2-acyl ethanolamine ptospholipids (EPL) were 18:0 (64.7%) and 20:1 (11.1%), Major sn-1 chains of alkenylacyl ckoline phospholipids (CPL) were 18:0 (63.3%) and 16:0 (22.27%). In the case of 1-alkyl-2-acyl EPL, the predominant fatty chains in the sn-1 position were 18:0 (51.5%), 16:0 (16.0%) and 20:1 (12.5%); in the case of 1-alkyl-2-acyl CPL, the major sn-1 chains were 16:0 (44.0%) and 14:0 (23.4%). Saturated fatty chains were predominant in both EPL and CPL. Prominent fatty acids in the sn-2 position of the alkenylacyl EPL were 22:6n-3 (29.0%), 20:5n-3 (19.0%) and 22:2 NMID (non-methylene interrupted dienes, 16.6%) contributing to about 65% of the total fatty acids, while alkenylacyl CPL was rich in the saturated acids 16:0 (32.O%) and 18:0 (9.2%). In the alkylacyl EPL, 16:0, 18:1n-9, 18:0 and 16:1n-7 were prominent sn-2 fatty acids and accounted for 30.6%, 10.0%, 9.8%, and 8.3%, respectively. Polyunsaturated fatty acids were detected. but were present at extremely low percentages. Major sn-2 fatty acids in alkylacyl CPL were 16:0 (25.4%), 22:6n-3 (16.0%) and 20:5n-3 (8.4%). The major fatty acids of diaeyl EPL were 20:5n-3 (22.3%), 16:0 (17.9%), and 18:0 (16.1%), and those of diacyl CPL were 16:0 (30.4%), 20:5n-3 (17.6%) and 18:1n-7 (7.4%).

        Role of Shear Band in Texture Control of Al-Mg Alloys

        Shear bands formed in Al-Mg alloys during cold rolling are nucleated on grain boundaries. Their mechanism of formation is different from that already proposed in the case of single crystals of the same alloy. Since recrystallized grains of non-cube orientations are nucleated on these shear bands during annealing, the development of cube recrystallization texture can be strongly suppressed by enhancing shear banding during cold rolling. Control of shear band thus provides a new fundamental technological tool to improve drawability of A1 alloy sheets. In a microscopic scale, deformation in grain boundary regions also plays here a very important role, as in the case of the formation of {111}$lt;uvw$gt; recrystallization textures in low carbon steel sheets.

        The Impact of Shakespeare Quotation: How to Teach English Through The Man Without a Face

        Focusing on the advantages of using films for ESL learning, this paper ultimately offers a discussion of teachers’ strategies for using literary intertextuality in a film to stimulate students’ interest. Expanding cultural/intellectual knowledge behind a scene helps students to focus on the psychological background of a certain character. The dynamism of The Man Without a Face (Gibson, 1993), in this sense, lies in the advantage that fruitfully includes a particular scene where Justin McLeod, one of the main characters, quotes Shakespeare’s lines from The Merchant of Venice. Taking three scenes from The Man Without a Face, this paper demonstrates how to choose interesting scenes from the target film, how to create questions about the story and the characters, and, most importantly, how to offer a point of view to analyze the film with the help of the film’s intertext with another cultural source, such as Shakespeare’s writing. Consequently, the introduction of Shakespeare’s play through The Man Without a Face may offer an opportunity to learn English with the cultural heritage of English literature. Learning language with the knowledge of culture can inspire students to make a bridge between the language and human thoughts.

      • The ‘Last’ Friendship Exchanges between Siam and Vietnam, 1879–1882: Siam between Vietnam and France—and Beyond

        Studies of Siam’s diplomatic relations from the mid-nineteenth century have been focussed on its troubled relations with Western colonial powers, often within a bilateral framework. While highlighting issues such as territorial losses and treaty revisions, scholarly interest tends to have overlooked Siam’s relations with its neighbouring countries. Based on archival records at the National Archives of Thailand, this article aims to fill this gap by examining diplomatic exchanges between the Siamese and Vietnamese courts that took place between 1879 and 1882. In April 1879, a royal mission from the Vietnamese court bearing gifts and a royal letter from Tự Ðức to Chulalongkorn arrived in Bangkok. It was allegedly the first formal mission from the Vietnamese court in almost half a century after the two countries had come into conflict in the 1830s. By examining how Siam and Vietnam sought to maintain and manipulate ‘traditional’ interstate relations in the face of treaty arrangements that France enforced upon Vietnam, this article reveals complex issues involved in the process of negotiations, such as the questions of maintaining the equality between the two monarchies and of the ‘translation’ of the concepts of sovereignty between Thai and Sino-Vietnamese languages, and suggests the necessity to pay more attention to historical and broader regional contexts in Asia.

      • Automatic Extraction of Abnormalities on Temporal CT Subtraction Images Using Sparse Coding and 3D-CNN

        In recent years, the proportion of deaths from cancer tends to increase in Japan, especially the number of deaths from lung cancer is increasing. CT device is effective for early detection of lung cancer. However, there is concern that an increase in burden on doctors will be caused by high performance of CT improving. Therefore, by presenting the “second opinion” by the CAD system, it reduces the burden on the doctor. In this paper, we develop a CAD system for automatic detection of lesion candidate regions such as lung nodules or ground glass opacity (GGO) from 3D CT images. Our proposed method consists of three steps. In the first step, lesion candidate regions are extracted using temporal subtraction technique. In the second step, the image is reconstructed by sparse coding for the extracted region. In the final step, 3D Convolutional Neural Network (3D-CNN) identification using reconstructed images is performed. We applied our method to 51 cases and True Positive rate (TP) of 79.81 % and False Positive rate (FP) of 37.65 % are obtained.
