This study investigated the temporal and spatial dynamics of an epilithic algal community in the Hantan River in November 2001, February, May and August 2002. It was identified a total of an epiphlithic 301 taxa which were composed of 275 species, 16 varieties and 10 unidentified species. The standing crops ranged between 598,600-16,525,200 cells $\cdot$ $cm^2$ and showed the temporal and spatial variations, A higher value was found at the lower station than the upper station in winter, but a higher value was found at the upper station than the lower station in summer due to the effects of typhoons. Chlorophyll concentrations ranged between 13.4-304.2 ${\mu}g$ $\cdot$ $cm^2$. Standing crops and chlorophyll showed similar trends in autumn and winter, but temporal dynamics were not apparent in the overgrowth of Lyngbya, Schizothrix and so others in Cyanophyceae in spring and summer. They were composed of species in Chlorophyceae-Bascillariophyceae-Cyanophyceae and no seasonal effect was detected. Low diversity index values probably indicated the effects of environmental stresses (water temperature, flow and current velocity) other than organic pollution. An assessment of organic pollution using epilithic diatoms (DAIpo) showed $\alpha$-oligosaprobic states at the upper- and mid- stations, and $\alpha$-mesosaprobic states at the lower- stations.

A study on Chlorococcal algae was carried out at 21 stations (ponds, swamps, reservoirs, lakes and rivers) from May 2011 to January 2012. The families of Botryococcaceae and Characiaceae of Chlorococcales were investigated to the extent of 8 genera, 20 species. Among them, 10 taxa are newly recorded in algal flora of Korea by Kim and Kim (2012) and this study reviewed about ; 1) Family Botryococcaceae: Dictyosphaerium elegans, D. reniforme, D. simplex, D. elongatum, 2) Family Characiaceae: Characium conicum, Ankyra ancora, A. judayi, A. calcarifera, Schroederia spiralis, S. indica.

The effects of adding goldenrod leaf powder (GLP) and goldenrod stem powder (GSP) (0.1% and 0.5%) to raw ground pork on antioxidant activity were examined. The following six treatment groups were used: Control (without antioxidant), GLP1 (with 0.1% GLP), GLP2 (with 0.5% GLP), GSP1 (with 0.1% GSP), GSP2 (with 0.5% GSP) and AS (with 0.05% ascorbic acid). The chemical compositions, pH values, instrumental color, conjugated diene (CD), free fatty acids (FFA) and thiobarbituric acid-reactive substance (TBARS) value were measured during 15 d of storage at chilled temperatures. The addition of GLP and GSP showed no effect on moisture, protein and fat contents of the samples. However, adding 0.5% GSP increased the ash contents of ground pork (p<0.05). The pH values of treated samples decreased until day 7, and then increased thereafter. The addition of GLP and GSP decreased the $L^*$ and $a^*$ values and increased the $b^*$ value (p<0.05). The CD, FFA and TBARS value of the control were higher (p<0.05) than samples containing GLP and GSP. The addition of GLP and GSP resulted in a significant decrease in CD, FFA and TBARS values. Overall, this study demonstrated that GL and GS could be used as an antioxidant of raw ground pork.

<P>Abstract</P><P><B><I>Aims:</I></B> We aimed to determine the potential blood markers responsible for the risks of intracranial artery stenosis (ICAS) in Korean ischemic stroke patients. <B><I>Methods:</I></B> One hundred and sixteen patients diagnosed with ICAS and 188 patients without cerebral atherosclerotic stenosis were examined. All subjects were diagnosed as acute ischemic stroke patients based on brain magnetic resonance imaging results and were admitted within 7 days of symptom onset. Blood lipids, lipoproteins, apolipoproteins including apolipoprotein CIII and apolipoprotein E (apoE), and lipoprotein(a) were measured. <B><I>Results:</I></B> No significant differences in total cholesterol, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol were observed between the groups. Also, plasma levels of apolipoprotein CIII and lipoprotein(a) were similar between the groups. On the other hand, patients with ICAS had significantly lower plasma levels of apoE (p < 0.001). Logistic regression and multiple linear regression analysis revealed that plasma apoE levels influenced the risk of ICAS after adjusting for age, body mass index, gender, associated lipid measures, medications and coexisting condition including hypertension, diabetes mellitus and previous stroke. <B><I>Conclusions:</I></B> Plasma concentrations of apoE were significantly lower in Korean subjects with ICAS, indicating that a low plasma apoE level may be a risk factor for ICAS in patients with acute ischemic stroke.</P><P>Copyright © 2012 S. New records of genus Scenedesmus (Chlorophyceae) found in Korea

This study summarizes the taxonomic notes and distribution of 13 taxa of the genus Scenedesmus (Chlorophyceae) collected from several swamps, reservoirs, and rivers throughout South Korea from 2012 to 2014. In this study, light microscopy images of all 13 taxa are presented and briefly discussed with regard to their taxonomy, distribution, and ecology and environmental factors of occurrence sites. All 3 subgenera (subgenus Scenedesmus 1 taxon; subgenus Acutodesmus 2 taxa; subgenus Desmodesmus 10 taxa) are newly described in Korean freshwater algal flora: S. linearis, S. acuminatus var. elongatus, S. acuminatus var. tetradesmoides, S. carinatus, S. denticulatus var. disciformis, S. gutwinskii var. heterospina, S. helveticus f. bicaudatus, S. lefevrei, S. oahuensis var. clathratus f. longiclathratus, S. oahuensis var. clathratus, S. pannonicus, S. polydenticulatus, and S. tenuispina.

포르투갈 르네상스 시대에 있어 동양, 특히 중국의 像은 가장 흥미롭고 관심이 많았던 테마중의 하나이다. 두아르뜨 바로보자(Duarte Barbosa)부터 페르나웅 멘데스 삔뚜(Fernao Mendes Pinto)에 이르기까지 수많은 역사가들이나 문인들은 동양에 관한 글을 남겼다. 특히 기독교 전파를 위해 동양에 온 신부들은 동양에서 선교활동을 하며 직접 보고, 듣고, 겪은 자신들의 경험을 토대로 동양에 관한 글을 가장 많이 남겼다. 16, 17세기 포르투갈 旅行文學에 있어 이들은 질적으로나, 양적으로 가장 중요한 위치를 차지하고 있다. 이들에 있어서 동양, 특히 중국은 이상적인 세계로 인식되어 허구와 환상이 결합된 낙원(Paraiso)으로 묘사되고 있다. 修士 가스빠르 다끄루스도 동양에 파견된 선교사의 한사람으로 최초로 중국에 들어가 선교활동을 하며 그전까지 부분적으로 알려졌던 중국에 대해 처음으로 신비와 환상이 배제된 기록인『중국에 관한 논설』을 남겼다. 『중국에 관한 논설』은 여행기록문이라는데서 묘사·서술적 기능이 주로 이루고 있는 것은 사실이나 단순히 사실에 대한 묘사나 열거를 하는데 그치지 않고 끊임없이 담화에 참여하고 있는 작가를 만나 볼 수 있다. 중국이라는 새로운 현실 앞에서 修士 가스빠르 다 끄루스는 뛰어난 관찰력을 바탕으로 자신의 "눈"으로 본 모든 것을 기록으로 남겨 중국의 실상을 유럽세계에 전하려고 하고 있다. 먼저, 단순한 "여행자의 視覺"으로 가능한 한 모든 것을 보려하고, 또한 이를 충실히 기록하고 있다. 둘째, "유럽인의 視覺"으로, 중국문명과 자신이 속한 유럽문명을 "相異와 比較"라는 원칙을 통해 비교, 분석하고 있다. 끝으로, 자신이 중국에 온 이유를 잊지 않고 "선교사의 視覺"으로 중국을 보고 있다. 이렇게 여러 시각으로 중국을 보여주고 있는 修士 가스빠르다 끄루스의 『중국에 관한 논설』은 17세기 초까지 전설과 신비의 나라로 여겨졌던 중국의 실상을 최초로 유럽세계에 소개했다는 데 큰 의미가 있다.
