FFT-Based Position Estimation in Switched Reluctance Motor Drives
Keunsoo Ha,Jaehyuck Kim,Jang Young Choi 한국자기학회 2014 Journal of Magnetics Vol.19 No.1
Position estimation that uses only active phase voltage and current is presented, to perform high accuracy position sensorless control of a SRM drive. By extracting the amplitude of the first switching harmonic terms of phase voltage and current for a PWM period through Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), the flux-linkage and position are estimated without external hardware circuitry, such as a modulator and demodulator, which result in increased cost, as well as large position estimation error, produced when the motional back EMF is ignored near zero speed. A two-phase SRM drive system, consisting of an asymmetrical converter and a conventional closed-loop PI current controller, is utilized to validate the performance of the proposed position estimation scheme in comprehensive operating conditions. It is shown that the estimated values very closely track the actual values, in dynamic simulations and experiments.

As mobile applications provide increasingly richer features to end users, it has become imperative to overcome the constraints of a resource-limited mobile hardware. Remote execution is one promising technique to resolve this important problem. Using this technique, the computation intensive part of the workload is migrated to resource-rich servers, and then once the computation is completed, the results can be returned to the client devices. To enable this operation, strong wireless connectivity is required. However, unstable wireless connections are the staple of real-life. This makes performance unpredictable, sometimes offsetting the benefits brought by this technique and leading to performance degradation. To address this problem, in this paper, we present a Simultaneous Remote Execution (SRE) model for mobile devices. Our SRE model performs concurrent executions both locally and remotely. Therefore, the worst-case execution time on fluctuating network condition is significantly reduced. In addition, SRE provides inherent tolerance for abrupt network failure. We designed and implemented an SRE-based offloading system consisting of a real smartphone and a remote server connected via 3G and Wifi networks. The experimental results under various real-life network variation scenarios show that SRE outperforms the alternative schemes in highly fluctuating network environments.

Efficient Deep Neural Network for Restoring Image Intensity
Keunsoo Heo,Yunju Kim,Changwoo Lee 대한전자공학회 2019 IEIE Transactions on Smart Processing & Computing Vol.8 No.2
In order to maximize the image quality when using existing image contents in the latest display devices, it is necessary to improve the resolution and intensity of the images. In this paper, we propose an efficient deep neural network to restore the image intensity when there are too few bits per pixel to provide more intensity. We investigate an efficient implementation and training method for U-net to maximize the performance of restoring image intensity. We show that we can significantly improve the perceptual quality of the restored image by using VGG loss as well as MSE loss to train U-net. The perceptual loss of images can be efficiently dealt with by using VGG loss. The convergence of the proposed method is analyzed, and extensive computer simulations show that the proposed method significantly improves the perceptual quality of the restored image.

This paper aimed to design a computer course teaching-learning strategy for (m-learning?) to be used in a Problem Based Learning (PBL) environment. The research findings were as follows. Firstly, learning contents were provided as educational tools for mobile device usage. The educational contents provided were designed for effective usage on mobile devices, such as smartphones, thereby making mobile devices suitable for use as learning tools. Secondly, learning contents for PBL were provided. PBL problems (for computer engineering courses) were made with the principles of teaching plans. The learning objectives were achieved through the problem-solving progress of the learners and their self-directed and cooperative learnings. Thirdly, learning resources were provided that were easily accessible through smartphones, laptops and PDAs. This study is about the PBL instructional design of creative engineering design subjects, which aims to foster talent. The PBL model developed in this study consists of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. We made a plan for creative engineering design subjects based on PBL, and focused on the process of PBL. This research was able to establish the basis for PBL usage in Engineering Schools and help achieve its ultimate goal of endowing professional intellectuals with creative problem-solving abilities.

TLR6 forms a heterodimer with TLR2 and TLR4. While proinflammatory roles of TLR2 and TLR4 are well documented, the role of TLR6 in inflammation is poorly understood. In order to understand mechanisms of action of TLR6 in inflammatory responses, we investigated the effects of FSL-1, the TLR6 ligand, on expression of chemokine CCL2 and cytokine IL-1Ղ and determined cellular factors involved in FSL-1-mediated expression of CCL2 and IL-1Ղ in mononuclear cells. Exposure of human monocytic leukemia THP-1 cells to FSL-1 resulted not only in enhanced secretion of CCL2 and IL-1Ղ, but also profound induction of their gene transcripts. Expression of CCL2 was abrogated by treatment with OxPAPC, a TLR-2/4 inhibitor, while treatment with OxPAPC resulted in partially inhibited expression of IL-1Ղ. Treatment with FSL-1 resulted in enhanced phosphorylation of Akt and mitogen- activated protein kinases and activation of protein kinase C. Treatment with pharmacological inhibitors, including SB202190, SP6001250, U0126, Akt inhibitor IV, LY294002, GF109203X, and RO318220 resulted in significantly attenuated FSL-1-mediated upregulation of CCL2 and IL-1Ղ. Our results indicate that activation of TLR6 will trigger inflammatory responses by upregulating expression of CCL2 and IL-1Ղ via TLR-2/4, protein kinase C, PI3K-Akt, and mitogen-activated protein kinases.
