김호근 국제기독교언어문화연구원 1998 기독교언어문화논집 Vol.2 No.-

Ho Keun Kim, 1998. 21 ST Century Information Communication Contents and Culture. Collected papers on Christian Language Culture. We are living in the information society. Nowadays one of our urgent demands is how we can communicate abundant information farther and faster. The way of success for everybody is to understand the advancements in science and technology and apply them for practical use. The 21st Century will demand an information society in which the product. treatment and distribution of information becomes the nucleus of economic activity. We must recognize that high-speed information communication is more important than value added material or energy. But to make practical use of such information. we need multimedia devices that can handle a variety of information and make it convenient to use. The development of digital technology and various media fields are now unifying and creating new industries leading to this multimedia revolution. As these global networks develop, our domain of thinking and living is not only becoming globalized, but also our daily lives are moving toward cyber space. Such changing patterns are predicting great changes in our lives. This is why Korea is not only exporting goods but also software. In this way, Korea is exporting its culture to a global and cyber world. This globally emerging 'Super Culture' which is superior to the existing one, is a kind of 'Cyber Super culture' that is rapidly creating a language of its own and values based on ultramodern science and a technologically driven flow of information.

        노인틀니 보험급여를 위한 건강보험재정추계연구

        권호근,김영남,정기호,송근배,박덕영 대한구강보건학회 2003 大韓口腔保健學會誌 Vol.27 No.3

The purpose of this study is to estimate the National Health Insurance budget needed for the Korean elderly's denture service coverage. For more exact estimating the budget, denture need and demand were calculated by using 2000 National Oral Health Survey data. The results were summarized as follows ; 1. Over 65 years old, full denture and partial denture need per arch were each 8.5% and 16.8%. And over 70 years old, those were each 11.3% and 17.8%. 2. Over 65 years old, full denture and partial denture demand per arch were each 22.8% and 21.2%. And over 70 years old, those were each 27.%% and 21.1%. 3. Based on the denture need, the health insurance budget needed in the first operative year was about 955.4 billion won, over 65 years old and about 644.2 billion won, over 70 years old. 4. Based on the denture demand(wear), the health insurance budget needed in the first operative year was about 207.5 billion won, over 65 years old and was about 151.6 billion won, over 70 years old. If health insurance policy of elderly's denture service coverage is performed, actual denture wear rate is going to increase, and the budget needed is also increasing. Because current National Health Insurance budget status is poor, it is difficult to execute health insurance coverage for elderly's denture service. Therefore we suggest that health insurance coverage for preventive service is to be considered in order to reducing denture need in the long term view.

        최호근(Choi Ho-Keun) 한국제노사이드연구회 2007 제노사이드연구 Vol.2 No.-

Since the World War II many parts of the German society struggle to come to terms with its own past, but very slowly. The exhibition Vernichtungskrieg. Verbrechen der Wehrmacht 1941 bis 1944 was the very example which shows well the way in which the German society reacted against its own shameful past. Upon the end of the war in 1945, several prominent Wehrmacht generals made a statement that defended the actions against partisans, executions of hostages, and the use of slave laborers as necessary to war effort. The generals contended that the Holocaust was committed by the SS and its partner organizations, and that the Wehrmacht command had been unaware of these actions in the death camps. This statement said that the armed forces had fought honorably and left the impression that the Wehrmacht had not committed war crimes. Although a number of high Wehrmacht officers stood trial for war crimes, the ‘legend’ of the Wehrmacht did not easily perished. The road to come to terms with the past of Wehrmacht was really long and dark. Both German states needed to establish armed forces, and could not do so without trained soldiers and officers that had served in the Wehrmacht. Cold War priorities and taboos about revisiting the most unpleasant aspects of World War II meant that the Wehrmacht’s role in war crimes was not seriously re-examined until the late 1980s. The view of the ‘unblemished’ Wehrmacht was shaken by an exhibition produced by the Hamburg Institute for Social Research titled Wehrmachtausstellung. The popular and controversial traveling exhibition asserted that the Wehrmacht was involved in planning and implementing a war of annihilation against Jews, prisoners of war, and the civilian population. The exhibition of course provoked many criticisms. These led its committee to conclude that the exhibition be reopened in revised form. The exhibition and the debates related to it show well the twisted long-process to overcome the shameful past in German society. Nowadays the past of the Wehrmacht stands in the center of the Vergangenheitsbew ltigung in Germany.

Schisandrin C enhances odontoblastic differentiation through autophagy and mitochondrial biogenesis in human dental pulp cells

        Takanche, Jyoti Shrestha,Kim, Jeong-Seok,Kim, Ji-Eun,Han, S-H.,Yi, Ho-Keun Elsevier 2018 Archives of oral biology Vol.88 No.-

Abstract

Objective

To investigate the role of Schisandrin C in odontoblastic differentiation, and its relations between autophagy and mitochondrial biogenesis in human dental pulp cells (HPDCs).

Design

Fresh third molars were used, and cultured for HDPCs. Western blotting technique, Alizarin red S staining, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, and confocal microscopy were used to detect autophagy, mitochondrial biogenesis, and odontoblastic differentiation. To understand the mechanism of Schisandrin C, the HDPCs were treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS), autophagy and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) inhibitors: 3-Methyladenine (3-MA) and Zinc protoporphyrin IX (ZnPP), respectively.

Results

LPS decreased the expression of autophagy molecules [autophagy protein 5 (ATG-5), beclin-1, and microtubule-associated protein 1A/1B light chain 3 (LC3-I/II)] and mitochondrial biogenesis molecules [heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1-alpha (PGC-1α)], and disrupted odontoblastic differentiation. The down-regulation of autophagy and mitochondrial biogenesis with 3-MA and ZnPP inhibited odontoblastic differentiation. However, Schisandrin C restored the expression of all the above molecules, even with LPS and inhibitor treatment. This result demonstrates that autophagy and mitochondrial biogenesis plays an essential role in odontoblastic differentiation, and Schisandrin C activates these systems to promote odontoblastic differentiation of HDPCs.

Conclusion

Schisandrin C has potential characters to regulate odontoblastic differentiation, and may be recommended for use as a compound for pulp homeostasis.

Highlights

Autophagy and mitochondrial biogenesis are linked with odontoblastic differentiation.

Schisandrin C promotes odontoblastic differentiation in HDPCs.

It mediated this function via mitochondrial biogenesis and autophagy.

신규 방사성 항암제 DW-166HC 의 소핵시험

        문은이(Eun Yi Moon),이진(Jin Lee),이원용(Won Yong Lee),최청하(Chung Ha Choi),이덕근(Dug Keun Lee),유제만(Jei Man Ryu),정용호(Yong Ho Chung),윤성준(Sung June Yoon),박경배(Kyung Bae Park) 한국응용약물학회 1997 Biomolecules & Therapeutics(구 응용약물학회지) Vol.5 No.3

DW-166HC (^(166)Holmium (^(166)Ho)-Chitosan complex) is a new radiopharmaceutic anticancer agent with a broad anti-tumorigenic spectrum, especially against human hepatic cancer. DW-166HC was evaluated for the appearance of micronucleus in polychromatic erythrocytes (PCEs) of mouse bone marrow cells after subcutaneous arid intravenous single administration. Bone marrow cells were prepared at 24 hr and 48 hr after DW-166HC-I (^(165)Ho-Chitosan complex : cold compound) administration and at 24 hr, 72 hr and 2 weeks after DW-166HC (^(166)Ho-Chitosan complex : hot compound) administration. The results showed there was no statistically significant increase of the numbers of PCEs with micronucleus in all DW-166HC-I administered groups compared with a negative control group but there was statistically significant increase of the numbers of PCEs with micronucleus at 24 hr arid 72 hr in all DW-166HC administered groups, which was recovered after 2 weeks from the drug administration. The results also showed the ratio of normochromatic erythrocytes (NCEs) to PCEs of all DW-166HC-I administered groups was not significantly different from that of a negative controi group but there was significant difference of this ratio at 24hr and 72 hr in all DW-166HC administered groups compared with that of negative group, which was also recovered after two weeks from the drug administration. These results suggested that DW-166HC-I may not cause any chromosomal damage but DW-166HC has in vivo mutagenic potential because of its radioactivity.

Objectives : Pneumoconisis and noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) have been reported as main occupational diseases by the Special Health Examination. The Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance has reported various work-related diseases, however, these two diseases occupied almost a half of compensated cases. Therefore, it was not well known about the status of occupational diseases other than pneumoconiosis, NIHL, and cardio-cerebrovascular accident (CVA). This study was conducted to analyze claimed cases as an occupational disease, that was requested to the Korea Industrial Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA). Methods : The local office of the Korea Labor Welfare Corporation (KLWC) has asked the KOSHA for confirmation of claimed cases as an occupational disease. We analyzed 379 cases requested from KLWC, the Ministry of Labor, employers, unions and occupational health agencies from 1992 to 1999. Results : Male was 80.7 % of the requested cases. Their mean age was 42 years old and 75.5 % of them were more than 35 years old. The requested cases were increased rapidly from 25 cases in 1992 to 108 cases in 1999 and the accept rate was 50.7 %. The majority of requested cases were respiratory diseases(22.4%), cancers(18.5%), Neuropsychiatric problems(14.5%), and musculoskeletal problems(13.5%). The accept rate was high in reproductive, respiratory, musculoskeletal and digestive disorders and low in neuropsychiatric, renal and otologic problems and occupational cancers. 73.6% of them were caused by chemical agents, especially 28.5 % were by organic solvents. 67% of them were clinically confirmed at university hospitals. A half of the cases were from KyongIn area, even the request came from the whole country. Conclusions : A claim was common in workers whose age was over 35 years old and exposure history was over 10 years. The respiratory diseases and neuropsychiatric disorders were still main problems in occupational health and occupational cancers was increasing even though its accept rate was not high yet.

        Sulforaphane protects against acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity

        Noh, Jung-Ran,Kim, Yong-Hoon,Hwang, Jung Hwan,Choi, Dong-Hee,Kim, Kyoung-Shim,Oh, Won-Keun,Lee, Chul-Ho Elsevier 2015 Food and chemical toxicology Vol.80 No.-

Abstract

Oxidative stress is closely associated with acetaminophen (APAP)-induced toxicity. Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), an antioxidant defense enzyme, has been shown to protect against oxidant-induced tissue injury. This study investigated whether sulforaphane (SFN), as a HO-1 inducer, plays a protective role against APAP hepatotoxicity in vitro and in vivo. Pretreatment of primary hepatocyte with SFN induced nuclear factor E2-factor related factor (Nrf2) target gene expression, especially HO-1 mRNA and protein expression, and suppressed APAP-induced glutathione (GSH) depletion and lipid peroxidation, which eventually leads to hepatocyte cell death. A comparable effect was observed in mice treated with APAP. Mice were treated with 300 mg/kg APAP 30 min after SFN (5 mg/kg) administration and were then sacrificed after 6 h. APAP alone caused severe liver injuries as characterized by increased plasma AST and ALT levels, GSH depletion, apoptosis, and 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE) formations. This APAP-induced liver damage was significantly attenuated by pretreatment with SFN. Furthermore, while hepatic reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels were increased by APAP exposure, pretreatment with SFN completely blocked ROS formation. These results suggest that SFN plays a protective role against APAP-mediated hepatotoxicity through antioxidant effects mediated by HO-1 induction. SFN has preventive action in oxidative stress-mediated liver injury.

Highlights

SFN pretreatment increases the cell viability against APAP-induced toxicity.

SFN pretreatment protects depletion of cellular GSH after APAP treatment.

SFN pretreatment enhances Nrf2 target gene expression, especially HO-1 after APAP treatment.

SFN has protective effect against APAP overdose-induced liver injury in vivo model as well.
