Income, Development, and Forms of Corruption
( Kentaro Maeda ),( Adam Ziegfeld ) 한국행정학회 2013 한국행정학회 학술발표논문집 Vol.2013 No.-
While previous research shows that economic development reduces the level of corruption, the field has paid little attention to the variation in the form of corruption that prevails in rich and poor societies. In this paper, we distinguish petty corruption involving low-level bureaucrats and ordinary citizens from grand corruption involving high-level officials and businessmen. Using both aggregate and individual-level data, we show that petty corruption is pervasive in poor countries, whereas grand corruption is more salient in rich countries. Overall, we conclude that grand corruption is more resistant to the forces of economic development compared to petty corruption.
A Case of Acute Pancreatitis Associated with Risperidone Treatment
Kentaro Kawabe,Shu-ichi Ueno 대한정신약물학회 2014 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.12 No.1
Acute pancreatitis with antipsychotic treatment is rare but sometimes causes a fatal adverse effect. Most cases of acute pancreatitisdue to atypical antipsychotic agents are reported to occur within six months of starting antipsychotic administration. Caused by risperidone is rare. The patient had a high fever, stomachache and vomiting. The results of the abdominal computedtomograhpy scan were negative. The results of the abdominal ultrasonography were positive for gallstones in gallbladder anddistention of the common bile duct. She had been fasting and received antibiotic intravenous injections. Amylase and lipasetiters were high. After risperidone discontinuation, both the levels of the amylase and the lipase were gradually decreased. Threemonths later, the patient still maintains a good clinical balance. Although atypical antipsychotic-induced pancreatitis has beenreported in conjunction with hyperglycemia, the pathophysiologic mechanism of these adverse events remains unclear. Thiscase got pancreatitis 6 month after risperidone treatment. Using the antipsychotic agents, it is necessary to monitor pancreasfunction.

From the designs of product and industrial process perspectives, the solubility of a target material is oneof the most valuable qualities. We proposed the ‘solid dispersion melt crystallization (SDMC) concept’ asa original strategy for dispersing a target material in a matrix one, in which the target material is naturallydispersed between the crevices formed by the matrix material precipitatedfirst. Furthermore, the effectsof introducing some operations, such as cooling, agitation and aeration, to the SDMC concept on thedissolution rate were investigated by a binary eutectic system. According to the experimental results, thedissolution rate was enhanced by the operations (cooling, agitation and aeration). This improvement inthe dissolution rate was attributed to the SDMC concept-based enhancement of the nucleation rate. Therefore, it was revealed that an increase in the nucleation rate due to the SDMC concept had effectivelyimproved the dissolution rate.

This paper presents two types of high frequency resonant inverters using power MOSFETs for driving the next generation rare gas fluorescent lamp based on the dielectric barrier discharge phenomenon for liquid crystal backlight in personal computer and car navigation equipment, which has no harmful influence for environment and human body. The high frequency resonant inverters, which include the royer type parallel resonant class D high frequency inverter using two power switches and class E edge resonant high frequency inverter using a single power switch, one is generally used as a light source driver and the other is newly introduced for the purpose of high efficiency and low cost in total system. The experimental performances are comparatively evaluated from the viewpoints of performance evaluations in these resonant<br/> inverters, are discussed as compared with the royer type and class E type high frequency resonant inverters. Moreover, this paper discusses wide and linear control characteristics on the basis of Pulse Density Modulation (PDM) control scheme for voltage source class E edge-resonant inverter.

Study Design: Prospective study. Purpose: To examine the long-term effects of interspinous ligament injections of local anesthetics and steroids for the treatment of Baastrup’s diseases. Overview of Literature: Baastrup’s disease is associated with axial low back pains. Baastrup’s disease has been more recently described as the “kissing spinous processes” disease. Several authors have reported methods for the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. However, there has been only one report of patients receiving interspinous ligament injections of agents for the treatment of Baastrup’s disease. Methods: Seventeen patients showed severe low back pains between spinous processes at L3–L4 or L4–L5. X-ray imaging, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging revealed kissing spinous processes, consolidation of spinous process, or inflammation of an interspinous ligament. Pain reliefs after lidocaine and dexamethasone administration into interspinous ligament as therapy for low back pains were being examined and followed up. Results: Low back pain scores significantly improved immediately after injection of the agents into interspinous ligaments. At final follow-up (1.4 year), low back pain scores significantly improved as compared with before the treatment. Conclusions: Findings from the current study indicate that lidocaine and dexamethasone administration into interspinous ligament in patients diagnosed with Baastrup’s disease is effective for managing the pain associated with this disease.
Fermented Ginseng Contains an Agonist of Peroxisome Proliferator Activated Receptors α and γ

Peroxisome proliferator activated receptor (PPAR) is a nuclear receptor that is one of the transcription factors regulating lipid and glucose metabolism. Fermented ginseng (FG) is a ginseng fermented by Lactobacillus paracasei A221 containing minor ginsenosides and metabolites of fermentation. DNA microarray analysis of rat liver treated with FG indicated that FG affects on lipid metabolism are mediated by PPAR-α. To identify a PPAR-α agonist in FG, PPAR-α transcription reporter assay-guided fractionation was performed. The fraction obtained from the MeOH extract of FG, which showed potent transcription activity of PPAR-α, was fractionated by silica gel column chromatography into 16 subfractions, and further separation and crystallization gave compound 1 together with four known constituents of ginseng, including 20(R)-and 20(S)-protopanaxadiol, and 20(R)- and 20(S)-ginsenoside Rh1. The structure of compound 1 was identified as 10-hydroxy-octadecanoic acid by 1H- and 13C-NMR spectra and by EI-MS analysis of the methyl ester of 1. Compound 1 demonstrated much higher transcription activity of PPAR-α than the other isolated compounds. In addition, compound 1 also showed 5.5-fold higher transcription activity of PPAR-γ than vehicle at the dose of 20 μg/mL. In the present study, we identified 10-hydroxy-octadecanoic acid as a dual PPAR-α/γ agonist in FG. Our study suggested that metabolites of fermentation, in addition to ginsenosides, contribute to the health benefits of FG.
