Numerous studies suggested that Generation Z (Gen Z) is an age group that seeks individuality more than other generations. Their aesthetics, identity, and belief must represent their self-value. The consumption of fashion was selected as a focus of this study. Our consumption of fashion represents our value, and we construct and present our identity with physically what we wear when we face society daily. Looking at the fashion styles of Generation Z, this study aims to examine whether Generation Z in Hong Kong practice individuality or conformity in the course of their fashion consumption behaviour by a preliminary study. Generation Z perceives their fashion consumption behaviour to reflect their individualism and values. However, the findings suggest that there is a high degree of conformity among Generation Z's fashion consumption behaviour. This conformity is observed in the creation of a distinctive fashion style, which is influenced by the cultural aesthetics, values, and preferences of Generation Z, resulting in a unifying effect that goes unnoticed by the individuals. This complex formation of Generation Z fashion consumption behaviour has a complex implication to fashion marketing, where both the sense of exclusivity and conformity must both be exhibited to satisfy the consumption needs of Generation Z.
In vitro requirement for periostin in B lymphopoiesis
Siewe, Basile T.,Kalis, Susan L.,Le, Phong T.,Witte, Pamela L.,Choi, Sangdun,Conway, Simon J.,Druschitz, Laurel,Knight, Katherine L. American Society of Hematology 2011 Blood Vol.117 No.14
<B>Abstract</B><P>B lymphopoiesis arrests in rabbits by 4 months of age. To identify molecules that contribute to this arrest, cDNA-representational difference analysis on BM stromal cells from young and adult rabbits showed that expression of Postn that encodes for the extracellular matrix protein periostin dramatically reduced with age. Postn-small interfering RNA OP9 cells lost their capacity to support B-cell development from rabbit or murine BM cells, and reexpression of periostin restored this potential, indicating an in vitro requirement for periostin in B lymphopoiesis. In our system, we determined that periostin deficiency leads to increased cell death and decreased proliferation of B-lineage progenitors. Further, RGD peptide inhibition of periostin/αvβ3 interaction resulted in a marked decrease in B lymphopoiesis in vitro. Microarray analysis of the Postn-small interfering RNA OP9 cells showed decreased expression of key B-lymphopoietic factors, including IL-7 and CXCL12. In vivo, unidentified molecule(s) probably compensate periostin loss because Postn−/− mice had normal numbers of B-cell progenitors in BM. We conclude that the decline in periostin expression in adult rabbit BM does not solely explain the arrest of B lymphopoiesis. However, the interaction of periostin with αvβ3 on lymphoid progenitors probably provides both proliferative and survival signals for cells in the B-cell development pathway.</P>

Nickel was recovered from a fertilizer industry spent catalyst by leaching with nitric acid followed by nickel hydroxide precipitation. The optimization of temperature, initial acid concentration and particle size for leaching of the spent catalyst was done through 23 factorial design. A maximum extraction of 91.9% was achieved at 90 oC, 1.5M HNO3 and 62.5 μm particle size. Temperature and acid concentration showed positive effect, while particle size showed no effect. A regression equation was developed and employed to predict conditions for 100% extraction which were experimentally tested. Nickel hydroxide was electrochemically precipitated from the leach liquor and its maximum discharge capacity was found to be 155 mAh/g. A 3-stage counter current leaching circuit was designed to obtain a leach liquor of suitable pH. XRD characterization of the precipitated Ni(OH)2 shows to consist of both α- and β-forms.

1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([BMIM][BF4]) ionic liquid (IL) is considered for CO2capturing in a typical absorption/stripper process. The use of ionic liquids is considered to be cost-effective because it requires less energy for solvent recovery compared to other conventional processes. A mathematical model was developed for the process based on Peng-Robinson (PR) equation of state (EoS). The model was validated with experimental data for CO2 solubility in [BMIM][BF4]. The model is utilized to study the sorbent effect and energy demand for selected operating pressure at specific CO2 capturing rates. The energy demand is expressed by the vapor-liquid equilibrium temperature necessary to remove the captured CO2 from the spent solvent in the regeneration step. It is found that low recovery temperature can be achieved at specific pressure combination for the absorber/stripper units. In fact, the temperature requirement is less than that required by the typical monoethanolamine (MEA) solvent. The effect of the CO2 loading in the sorbent stream on the process performance is also examined.

Tendinopathy risk increases with menopause. The phytoestrogen genistein prevents collagen loss during estrogen deficiency (ovariectomy [OVX]). The influence of genistein on tendon function and extracellular matrix (ECM) regulation is not well known. We determined the impact of genistein on tendon function and the expression of several genes important for the regulation of tendon ECM. Eight-week-old rats (n = 42) were divided into three groups: intact, OVX, or OVX-genistein (6 mg/kg/day) for 6 weeks. Tail fascicles were assessed with a Deben tensile stage. Achilles tendon mRNA expression was determined with digital droplet polymerase chain reaction. Compared to intact, fascicle stress tended to be lower in untreated OVX rats (P = .022). Furthermore, fascicle modulus and energy density were greater in genistein-treated rats (P < .05) compared to intact. Neither OVX nor genistein altered expression of Col1a1, Col3a1, Casp3, Casp8, Mmp1a, Mmp2, or Mmp9 (P > .05). Compared to intact, Tnmd and Esr1 expression were greater and Pcna and Timp1 expression were lower in OVX rats (P < .05). Genistein treatment returned Tnmd, Pcna, and Timp1 to levels of intact-vehicle (P < .05), but did not alter Scx or Esr1 (P > .05). Several β-catenin/Wnt signaling-related molecules were not altered by OVX or genistein (P > .05). Our findings demonstrate that genistein improves tendon function in estrogen-deficient rats. The effect of genistein in vivo was predominately on genes related to cell proliferation rather than collagen remodeling.

Clear thermal inversion was observed with cold surface waters (< 24°C) overlying the warm (> 26°C) subsurface water in the coastal waters of the northwestern Bay of Bengal during winter (January 2015). Simultaneously, preponderance of the cyanobacteria Trichodesmium erythraeum was observed dominating the phytoplankton community with > 90% of total population, reaching maximum density of 9.8 × 105 filaments/L. Further, the Trichodesmium predominance was associated with low water temperature (< 24°C).

The present paper reports on the phenomenon of pinkish-red discoloration of the nearshore water of Puri, Odisha on 12th May 2016. Many local newspapers covered this event, as Puri city is a major tourist and pilgrimage place on the east coast of India. Field observations were carried out in order to provide a scientific basis to the event and to elicit possible causes of this discoloration. Taxonomic analysis of the phytoplankton samples revealed the dominance of red colored dinoflagellate species Gonyaulax polygramma, contributing 90% to total phytoplankton population. The localized concentration of G. polygramma was responsible for the pinkish-red discoloration of nearshore water. The exact factor that lay behind the genesis of this bloom could not be delineated due to the short period of its persistence. But two factors - upwelling and anthropogenic nutrient influx - can be viewed as the main cause for this ephemeral bloom. Non-hypoxic conditions in the coastal water following the ephemeral bloom event indicated no significant risk of ecological deterioration to the ambient medium.

Background: Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is a common cancer in the north east of India. The present study concerned the prevalence of human papilloma virus (HPV) in the ESCC in north eastern India and its impact on response to chemotherapy. Materials and Methods: p16 expression, a surrogate marker for HPV infection was assessed in 101 pre-treatment biopsies of locally advanced ESCC, reported from a comprehensive cancer centre in north east India, using immunohistochemistry. All patients received neo-adjuvant chemotherapy. Response was assessed clinically and histopathologically with attention to p16 expression. Results: p16 was expressed in 22% of ESCC (22 out of 101) and was more prevalent in patients who were more than 45 years of age (P=0.048). p16 positive tumors appeared more commonly in the upper 2/3 of the thoracic esophagus (18 in 22). Nine of the 22 (41%) p16 positive tumors achieved pathologic complete response following neo-adjuvant chemotherapy (P=0.008). There was a trend towards reduced mortality in this group (P=0.048). Some 9 of the 20 (45%) patients who achieved pathologic complete response were p16 positive. Conclusions: Expression of p16 in ESCC correlates with higher rate of pathologic complete remission in patients undergoing neo adjuvant chemotherapy and could be a predictive marker for response assessment.
