Realization of High Speed All-Optical Half Adder and Half Subtractor Using SOA Based Logic Gates

Simranjit Singh,Rajinder Singh Kaler,Rupinder Kaur 한국광학회 2014 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.18 No.6

In this paper, the scheme of a single module for simultaneous operation of all-optical computing circuits, namely half adder and half subtractor, are realized using semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) based logic gates. Optical XOR gate by employing a SOA based Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) configuration is used to get the sum and difference outputs. A carry signal is generated using a SOA-four wave mixing (FWM) based AND gate, whereas, the borrow is generated by employing the SOA-cross gain modulation (XGM) effect. The obtained results confirm the feasibility of our configuration by proving the good level of quality factor i.e. ~5.5, 9.95 and 12.51 for sum/difference, carry and borrow, respectively at 0 dBm of input power.

All-Optical Binary Full Adder Using Logic Operations Based on the Nonlinear Properties of a Semiconductor Optical Amplifier

Sanmukh Kaur,Rajinder Singh Kaler,Tara-Singh Kamal 한국광학회 2015 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.19 No.3

We propose a new and potentially integrable scheme for the realization of an all-optical binary fulladder employing two XOR gates, two AND gates, and one OR gate. The XOR gate is realized usinga Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) based on a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). The AND andOR gates are based on the nonlinear properties of a semiconductor optical amplifier. The proposed schemeis driven by two input data streams and a carry bit from the previous less-significant bit order position. In our proposed design, we achieve extinction ratios for Sum and Carry output signals of 10 dB and 12dB respectively. Successful operation of the system is demonstrated at 10 Gb/s with return-to-zeromodulated signals

Ultrahigh Speed Reconfigurable Logic Operations Based on Single Semiconductor Optical Amplifier

Sanmukh Kaur,Rajinder-Singh Kaler 한국광학회 2012 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.16 No.1

We demonstrate an optical gate architecture using a single SOA to perform AND, OR and NOT logic functions. Simple reconfigurable all-optical logic operations are implemented using RZ modulated signals at 40 Gb/s. Contrast ratio and extinction ratio values have been analysed for the different types of logic gates. Maximum extinction ratio and contrast ratio achieved are 19dB and 17.2 dB respectively. Simple structure and potential for integration makes this architecture an interesting approach in photonic computing and optical signal processing.

Optimizing the Net Gain of a Raman-EDFA Hybrid Optical Amplifier using a Genetic Algorithm

Simranjit Singh,Rajinder-Singh Kaler 한국광학회 2014 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.18 No.5

For the first time, a novel analytical model of the net gain for a Raman-EDFA hybrid optical amplifier (HOA) is proposed and its various parameters optimized using a genetic algorithm. Our method has been shown to be robust in the simultaneous analysis of multiple parameters (Raman length, EDFA length, and pump powers) to obtain large gain. The optimized HOA is further investigated at the system level for the scenario of a 50-channel DWDM system with 0.2-nm channel spacing. With an optimized HOA, a flat gain of >17 dB is obtained over the effective ITU-T wavelength grid with a variation of less than 1.5 dB, without using any gain-flattening technique. The obtained noise figure is also the lowest value ever reported for a Raman-EDFA HOA at reduced channel spacing.

Bilateral thyrolinguofacial trunk: unusual and rare branching pattern of external carotid artery

        Monica Baxla,Chiman Kumari,Saroj Kaler 대한해부학회 2018 Anatomy & Cell Biology Vol.51 No.4

Prior knowledge of arterial supply to the head and neck is of substantial importance for well-planned surgeries involving the concerned region. We are reporting an unusual and rare variation in the branching pattern of external carotid artery in a 60-year-old female cadaver. A common trunk known as thyrolinguofacial trunk, originating from the anterior surface of the external carotid artery (right and left) giving of superior thyroid artery and a linguofacial trunk during a routine neck dissection. The linguofacial trunk then divided into a lingual and a facial artery. Vascular abnormalities are usually detected either on the dissection table or by the radiologists during imaging or accidently during surgeries leading to serious consequences.

Curcumin supplementation shows modulatory influence on functional and morphological features of hippocampus in mice subjected to arsenic trioxide exposure

        Kamakshi Mehta,Balpreet Kaur,Kamlesh Kumar Pandey,Saroj Kaler,Pushpa Dhar 대한해부학회 2020 Anatomy & Cell Biology Vol.53 No.3

Since, oxidative stress has been suggested as one of the mechanisms underlying arsenic-induced toxicity, the present study focused on the role of antioxidant (curcumin) supplementation on behavioral, biochemical, and morphological alterations with context to mice hippocampus (CA1) following arsenic trioxide (As₂O₃) administration. Healthy male Swiss albino mice were divided into control and experimental groups. As₂O₃ (2 mg/kg bw) alone or along with curcumin (100 mg/kg bw) was administered to experimental groups by oral route for 45 days whereas the control groups received either no treatment or vehicle for curcumin. Animals were subjected to behavioral study towards the end of the experimental period (day 33-45). On day 46, the brain samples were obtained and subjected either to immersion fixation (for morphometric observations) or used afresh for biochemical test. Behavioral tests (open field, elevated plus maze, and Morris water maze) revealed enhanced anxiety levels and impairment of cognitive functions in As₂O₃ alone treated groups whereas a trend of recovery was evident in mice simultaneously treated with As₂O₃ and curcumin. Morphological observations showed noticeable reduction in stratum pyramidale thickness (CA1), along with decrease in density and size of pyramidal neurons in As₂O₃ alone exposed group as compared to As₂O₃+Cu co-treated group. Hippocampal glutathione levels were found to be downregulated in animals receiving As₂O₃ as against the levels of controls and curcumin supplemented animals, thereby, suggestive of beneficial role of curcumin on As₂O₃ induced adverse effects.

Diverse characters of Brennan's paw incision model regarding certain parameters in the rat

Kumar, Rahul,Gupta, Shivani,Gautam, Mayank,Jhajhria, Saroj Kaler,Ray, Subrata Basu The Korean Pain Society 2019 The Korean Journal of Pain Vol.32 No.3

Background: Brennan's rodent paw incision model has been extensively used for understanding mechanisms underlying postoperative pain in humans. However, alterations of physiological parameters like blood pressure and heart rate, or even feeding and drinking patterns after the incision have not been documented as yet. Moreover, though eicosanoids like prostaglandins and leukotrienes contribute to inflammation, tissue levels of these inflammatory mediators have never been studied. This work further investigates the antinociceptive effect of protein C after intra-wound administration. Methods: Separate groups of Sprague-Dawley rats were used for quantitation of cyclooxygenase (COX) activity and leukotriene B4 level by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, as well as estimation of cardiovascular parameters and feeding and drinking behavior after paw incision. In the next part, rats were subjected to incision and $10{\mu}g$ of protein C was locally administered by a micropipette. Both evoked and non-evoked pain parameters were then estimated. Results: COX, particularly COX-2 activity and leukotriene B4 levels increased after incision. Hemodynamic parameters were normal. Feeding and drinking were affected on days 1 and 3, and on day 1, respectively. Protein C attenuated non-evoked pain behavior alone up to day 2. Conclusions: Based upon current observations, Brennan's rodent paw incision model appears to exhibit a prolonged period of nociception similar to that after surgery, with minimal interference of physiological parameters. Protein C, which is likely converted to activated protein C in the wound, attenuated the guarding score, which probably represents pain at rest after surgery in humans.

On the Optimization of Raman Fiber Amplifier using Genetic Algorithm in the Scenario of a 64 nm 320 Channels Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexed System

        Simranjit Singh,Sonak Saini,Gurpreet Kaur,Rajinder Singh Kaler 한국광학회 2014 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.18 No.2

For multi parameter optimization of Raman Fiber Amplifier (RFA), a simple genetic algorithm is presented in the scenario of a 320 channel Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexed (DWDM) system at channel spacing of 25 GHz. The large average gain (> 22 dB) is observed from optimized RFA with the optimized parameters, such as 39.6 km of Raman length with counter-propagating pumps tuned to 205.5 THz and 211.9 THz at pump powers of 234.3 mW, 677.1 mW respectively. The gain flattening filter (GFF) has also been optimized to further reduce the gain ripple across the frequency range from 190 to 197.975 THz for broadband amplification.
