The effect of grain size on the high temperature creep behavior of AISI 304 stainless steel was investigated. The apparent activation energy for the creep was measured to be much higher than that for the self diffusion in the steel. All of the ruptured specimens showed intergranular cracking. Both of these phenomena was attributed to the microstructure change during creep.

저자들은 최근 영남대 의대 부속병원 외과에서 치험한 원발 경화성 담관염 1예를 보고하고 아울러 문헌을 고찰하였다. Sclerosing Cholangitis is an uncommon disease which involves either all or part of the extrahepatic biliary duct system and, occassionally, affects the intrahepatic biliary radicles. The disease has also been called "obliterative cholagitis" nad "stenosing cholangitis", in reference to a progressive thickening of the bile duct walls encroaching upon the lumen. Several authors have porposed that the temr "primary sclerosing cholangitis" be reserved for cases in whic there arew no associated diseases, and that all other cases be calssified as "secondary sclerosing cholangitis". Many rigid criterias have been estalbilished for the diagnosis of primary sclerosing cholangitis. Recently the authors experienced one case of primary sclerosing cholangitis which was coincided with rigid criterias and was confirmed by operation with histologic examination. We present our case and review the literatures.

Pedicle screw fixation is coming into wide use as an adjunct to fusion procedures for the patients with various lumbar degenerative diseases causing spinl stenosis in conjunction with traditional decompressive laminectomy. Twenty-five patients with lumbar degerative disease who underwent surgery using the pedicle screw since 1989 were review with reference to surgical outcome and problems associated with pedicle screw instrumentation of the lumbar spine. Based on return to work or activities of daily living, drug usage patterns, and complaints of pain, twenty-two patients(88%) had a successful clinical results. Major complications included three permanent nerve root deficits, one symptomatic instrument failure, one deep wound infection at donor site and two pulmonary embolisms ; one patient led to a fatal outcome. However the pedicle screw is a very effective tool of immobilization of the lumbar spine and it is recommended that more careful preoperative evaluation, batter surgical technique and experience are required to avoid the serious complications and to achieve better surgical outcome.

Ethnopharmacological relevance: Mahaenggamseok-tang (MHGST), an herbal formula in traditional Asian medicine, has been used to treat patients with various pulmonary diseases including common cold and influenza. However, the potential therapeutic effect of MHGST on acute lung injury (ALI), a leading cause of death worldwide, and the anti-inflammatory mechanisms of MHGST remained less understood. Materials and methods: The methanol extract of MHGST was prepared and fingerprinted by HPLC. For the induction of ALI, C57BL/6 mice (n=5/group) received a single intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of LPS. Referring to the dose for patients, two different amounts of MHGST were delivered in an aerosol to mouse lungs via trachea 2h after the i.p. LPS administration. Lung histology, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity, and the expression of inflammatory and Nrf2-dependent genes were analyzed to determine the effect of MHGST on lung inflammation. For mechanistic studies, western blotting and semi-quantitative RT-PCR were conducted using RAW 264.7 cells. Results: When administered 2h after the onset of ALI, MHGST relieved lung pathology characteristic to ALI, with decreases of neutrophil infiltration and MPO activity. While suppressing the expression of inflammatory genes, MHGST increased the expression of Nrf2-dependent genes in ALI mouse lungs. Concordantly, MHGST activated Nrf2 activity while suppressing NF-κB in RAW 264.7 cells. Conclusion: MHGST suppressed neutrophilic lung inflammation, a hallmark of ALI, which was associated with the activation of anti-inflammatory Nrf2 and the suppression of pro-inflammatory NF-κB. Our results suggest that MHGST has a therapeutic potential against ALI.

This study investigates the antecedents of the subordinate`s trust in leader in organizational contexts. Trust in leader was operationalized in terms of three types: calculus-based, knowledge-based, and identification-based trust. Regression analyses of the survey data from 349 employees in 16 medium-sized firms indicated that all three types of trust were significantly affected by the amount of care, openness, and competence that the leader had shown to the subordinates. The temporal length of the subordinate-leader relationship was correlated positively with knowledge-based trust, but negatively with calculus-based trust. Age and gender similarities exerted marginal influence on knowledge-based trust and identification-based trust as well. Interestingly, similarity in regional origins contributed significantly to identification-based trust, but also marginally to knowledge-based trust. Calculus-based trust was strongly influenced by the expected amounts of gains resulting from the future relationship. Based on the findings, managerial implications are derived. Suggestions for future research also follow.
