        Zoster sine herpete: a review

        Zoster sine herpete (ZSH) is one of the atypical clinical manifestations of herpes zoster (HZ), which stems from infection and reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus (VZV) in the cranial nerve, spinal nerve, viscera, or autonomic nerve. Patients with ZSH display variable symptoms, such as neuralgia, however, different from HZ, ZSH show no zoster, which makes clinical diagnosis difficult. ZSH not only causes initial symptoms, such as neuropathic pain in the affected nerve, Bell palsy, and Ramsay Hunt syndrome, but also postherpetic neuralgia and fatal complications such as VZV encephalitis and stroke. The misdiagnosis of ZSH and tardy antiviral treatment may lead to severe ZSH sequelae. We review the publications related to ZSH, especially its diagnosis with VZV DNA and/or anti-VZV immunoglobulin (IgG and IgM). More work about ZSH, especially ZSH epidemiological survey and guidelines for its diagnosis and treatment, are needed because most of the present studies are case reports.

        Study on the Mechanical Properties and Microstructure of Geogrid Under Different Materials and Temperatures

        In response to the environmental problems caused by the difficulty of direct degradation of the raw materials usedin traditional geogrids and the impact of different temperatures on the mechanical properties of geogrids in practicalengineering applications, based on 3D printing technology, polylactic acid (PLA), carbon fiber reinforced polylactic acid(PLA/CF), and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) geogrids were fabricated. The 3D printed geogrids and the fiberglassgeogrids used in the actual project were tested in indoor tensile tests under different temperature conditions. The mechanicalproperties of the geogrids of the four kinds of materials and six kinds of temperature were analyzed. The microstructure of thegeogrids after tensile tests was investigated based on scanning electron microscopy technology to further analyze the effectsof different materials and temperatures on the mechanical properties of the geogrids. The results showed that the tensilestrength of PLA/CF geogrids and PLA geogrids decreased with increasing temperature. The tensile strength of fiberglassgeogrids increased with rising temperatures. The tensile strength of PLA/CF geogrids was significantly better than PLAgeogrids. Due to the addition of carbon fiber in PLA, PLA/CF can bear more tensile force at high temperatures. With theincrease of temperature, the elongation at break of PLA/CF geogrids and fiberglass geogrids increased, but the elongation atbreak of PLA geogrids decreased. The elongation at break of PLA/CF geogrids was significantly lower than that of PLAgeogrids. TPU geogrids had high tensile capacity in a high-temperature environment, and they also had high elasticity andmore significant elongation at break, which was not suitable to be used as geogrid material.

        Inhibition of quorum sensing, biofilm, and spoilage potential in Shewanella baltica by green tea polyphenols

        We investigated the quorum sensing (QS) system of Shewanella baltica and the anti-QS related activities of green tea polyphenols (TP) against spoilage bacteria in refrigerated large yellow croaker. Autoinducer-2 (AI-2) and the diketopiperazines (DKPs) cyclo-(L-Pro-L-Leu) and cyclo-(L-Pro-L-Phe) were detected in the culture extract of S. baltica XH2, however, no N-acylhomoserine lactones (AHLs) activity was observed. Green TP at sub-inhibitory concentrations interfered with AI-2 and DKPs activities of S. baltica without inhibiting cell growth and promoted degradation of AI-2. The green TP treatment inhibited biofilm development, exopolysaccharide production and swimming motility of S. baltica in a concentration- dependent manner. In addition, green TP decreased extracellular protease activities and trimethylamine production in S. baltica. A transcriptional analysis showed that green TP repressed the luxS and torA genes in S. baltica, which agreed with the observed reductions in QS activity and the spoilage phenotype. Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG)-enriched in green TP significantly inhibited AI-2 activity of S.baltica. These findings strongly suggest that green TP could be developed as a new QS inhibitor for seafood preservation to enhance shelf life.

        Controller Backup and Replication for Reliable Multi-domain SDN

        Software defined networking (SDN) is considered to be one of the most promising paradigms in the future. To solve the scalability and performance problem that a single and centralized controller suffers from, the distributed multi-controller architecture is adopted, thus forms multi-domain SDN. In a multi-domain SDN network, it is of great importance to ensure a reliable control plane. In this paper, we focus on the reliability problem of multi-domain SDN against controller failure from perspectives of backup controller deployment and controller replication. We firstly propose a placement algorithm for backup controllers, which considers both the reliability and the cost factors. Then a controller replication mechanism based on shared data storage is proposed to solve the inconsistency between the active and standby controllers. We also propose a shared data storage layout method that considers both reliability and performance. Besides, a fault recovery and repair process is designed based on the controller backup and shared data storage mechanism. Simulations show that our approach can recover and repair controller failure. Evaluation results also show that the proposed backup controller placement approach is more effective than other methods.

        Senwot Wharton, a new genus for the Oriental region with description of two new species from Thailand (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Alysiinae)

        SenwotWharton 1983, is a small braconid genus with only two previously described species. The genus is revised using morphological characters and a phylogenetic analysis of COI sequence. Senwot Wharton is reported for the first time from Thailand and two new species: Senwot yinxianggaoae Yao n. sp. and Senwot jiyuanyaoi Yao n. sp. are described and illustrated. A key to species of the genus Senwot is presented.

      • Study on the fire resistance of castellated composite beams with ortho hexagonal holes and different beam end constraints

        In order to study the fire resistance of castellated composite beams with ortho-hexagonal holes and different beamend restraints, temperature rise tests with constant load were conducted on full-scale castellated composite beams with orthohexagonal holes and hinge or rigid joint constraints to investigate the temperature distribution, displacement changes and failure patterns of castellated composite beams with two different beam-end constraints during the whole course of fire. The results show that (1) During the fire, the axial pressure and horizontal expansion deformation generated in the rigid joint constrained composite beam were larger than those in the hinge joint constrained castellated composite beam, and their maximum horizontal expansion displacements were 30.2 mm and 17.8 mm, respectively. (2) After the fire, the cracks on the slab surface of the castellated composite beam with rigid joint constraint were more complicated than hinge restraint, and the failure more serious; the lower flange and web at the ends of the castellated steal beams with hinge and rigid joint constraint produced serious local buckling, and the angles of the ortho-hexagonal holes at the support cracked; the welds at both ends of the castellated composite beam with rigid joint constraint cracked. (3) Based on the simplified calculation method of solid-web composite beam, considering the effect of holes on the web, this paper calculated the axial force and displacement of the beam-end constrained castellated composite beams under fire. The calculation results agreed well with the test results.

      • Image Processing Model with K-support Norm

        In recent years, l1 norm is usually considered as the regularization term in the field of sparse representation. However, the non-zero entries obtained by the l1 regularization term always neglect the correlations with each other. In fact, different relationships or structures among non-zero entries are necessary in many applications. K-support norm is firstly proposed in the field of sparse prediction. The most important property of the k-support norm is grouping feature of the largest entries in the obtained solution. In this paper, we present a new image processing model by introducing the k-support norm to image gradient domain. The proposed model can be applied to image denoising and edge detection simultaneously. Some examples demonstrate the effectiveness of the novel model and its improvements.

        Theoretical and experimental study on deflection of steel-concrete composite truss beams

        This paper investigates the deflection of the steel-concrete composite truss beam (SCCTB) at the serviceability limit state. A precise solution for the distributed uplift force of the SCCTB, considering five different loading types, is first derived based on the differential and equilibrium equations. Furthermore, its approximate solution is proposed for practical applications. Subsequently, the shear slip effect corresponding to the shear stiffness of the stub connectors, uplift effect corresponding to the axial stiffness of the stub connectors and shear effect corresponding to the brace deformation of the steel truss are considered in the derivation of deflection. Formulae for estimating the SCCTB deflection are proposed. Moreover, based on the proposed formulae, a practical design method is developed to provide an effective and convenient tool for designers to estimate the SCCTB deflection. Flexure tests are carried out on three SCCTBs. It is observed that the SCCTB stiffness and ultimate load increase with an increase in the shear interaction factor. Finally, the reliability of the practical design method is accurately verified based on the available experimental results.

      • The bearing capacity of monolithic composite beams with laminated slab throughout fire process

        To investigate the failure form, bending stiffness, and residual bearing capacity of monolithic composite beams with laminated slab throughout the fire process, fire tests of four monolithic composite beams with laminated slab were performed under constant load and temperature increase. Different factors such as post-pouring layer thickness, lap length of the prefabricated bottom slab, and stud spacing were considered in the fire test. The test results demonstrate that, under the same fire time and external load, the post-pouring layer thickness and stud spacing are important parameters that affect the fire resistance of monolithic composite beams with laminated slab. Similarly, the post-pouring layer thickness and stud spacing are the predominant factors affecting the bending stiffness of monolithic composite beams with laminated slab after fire exposure. The failure forms of monolithic composite beams with laminated slab after the fire are approximately the same as those at room temperature. In both cases, the beams underwent bending failure. However, after exposure to the high-temperature fire, cracks appeared earlier in the monolithic composite beams with laminated slab, and both the residual bearing capacity and bending stiffness were reduced by varying degrees. In this test, the bending bearing capacity and ductility of monolithic composite beams with laminated slab after fire exposure were reduced by 23.3% and 55.4%, respectively, compared with those tested at room temperature. Calculation methods for the residual bearing capacity and bending stiffness of monolithic composite beams with laminated slab in and after the fire are proposed, which demonstrated good accuracy.

        A comprehensive genetic algorithm for design optimization of Z-bar loader working mechanism

        The operation mechanism is generally considered as a key component of a wheel loader. Its working performance has great influence on the service life, stability, efficiency and economy of the loader. This paper establishes a mathematical model of Z-bar loader mechanism in polar coordinate with four-bar linkage and six-bar Watt linkage synthesis, investigates the working performance, such as mechanism transmission ratio, carry stability, parallelism, dumping in any position, bucket flat setting, maximum dig depth, extreme transmission angle and so on. Then we explore new design methods of joint-position of Z-bar loader linkage between tilt cylinder and loader frame to perfect some of the performance. A new method, comprehensive genetic algorithm, is presented to optimize non-linear equation with multi-constraints, and the results improve the multidisciplinary performance. Furthermore, a virtual prototype of the working mechanism is modeled to simulate and verify the optimization results.
