2016 Crisisonomy Vol.12 No.2

On the basis of survey data on 2091 randomly selected in Seoul at 2013, multiple regression analysis wasadopted and found several important results. First, people who voted for candidate Moon Jae-In are morelikely to show negative perceptions in trust for police, satisfaction for police response, police crime fighteffectiveness than people who voted for candidate Park Keun-Hye at 18th President election. Second, thisstudy also found that ideological tendency also have effect on various public perception toward police. peoplewho have progressive or moderate ideology are more likely to show negative perception toward police thanpeople who have conservative ideology in trust for police, satisfaction for police response, police crime fighteffectiveness. These results suggest that police organization must maintain neutrality from political powerto get citizen’s help and fight for crime effectively.

      • Effect of active and passive tibial rotation exercise on the tibia, ankle kinematic factors, and neuromuscular control

Vol.2022 No.-

[OBJECTIVES] This study aims to analyze the effect of active and passive tibial rotation exercise on Kinematic factors(tibial torsion angle, ankle range of motion) and neuromuscular control. [METHODS] Subjects for this study based on AB/BA Crossover design are divided into two conditions, Core-tex tibial rotation exercise conditions(17 people) and Manual tibial rotation exercise conditions(17 people). A pre-test consisting of tibial torsion angle, non-weight bearing ankle range of motion and weight bearing ankle range of motion and dynamic balance test and shark skill test was conducted before tibial rotation exercise was perfomed. Post-test using the same tests. Participants performed active tibial rotation exercise using core-tex and passive tibial rotation exercise using manual, and were conducted as acute exercise. [RESULTS] First, the variables that showed significant differences depending on duration of tibial rotation exercise were left tibial torsion angle and bilateral non-weight bearing ankle range of motion and bilateral weight bearing ankle range of motion. From the dynamic balance test, bilateral anterior reach and bilateral posteromedial reach, right posterolateral reach, bilateral composite reach distance. From the shark skill test, bilateral test score. Second, There was no variable that showed a significant difference between the two conditions. Third, The variables that significant interaction effects between the duration and conditions were left non-weight bearing ankle range of motion and right posterolateral of dynamic balance test. [CONCLUSION] Tibial rotation exercise is considered to be valuable as sports injury prevention training because it’s effective for lower extremity in the aspect of functional and structural regardless of the type of tibial rotation exercise.

A Simple Method for Preserving Underground Water Resources in Volcanic Island (Jeju)

Vol.17 No.9

Being mostly made up of highly permeable basalt and volcanic ash soil, Jeju Island’s lithosphere characterizes its streams to be dry, flowing only when precipitation is happening. Under this condition, this research was motivated to identify the need of conservation of underground water, which is taking up most of (84% of) Jeju’s water usage, and made an attempt to reduce the permeability of stream beds so that it can replace underground water and be used instead. To this end, this study suggested a simple method to make dry streams to carry water all-year-round by reducing permeability of stream floor. The experiment of permeability was performed on the porous basalt and compared it with that of same basalt with volcanic ash soil and Jumunjin sand layer added on top. The results showed a dramatic decrease in permeability of water when both volcanic ash soil and Jumunjin sand is were layered on top of porous basalt. Despite being gained in a controlled environment with a simple test, this result may provide a realistic and effective method of preserving Jeju Island’s underground water which ultimately is a method of resolving water related issues.

        A High-Throughput and Energy-Efficient SHA-256 Design using Approximate Arithmetic

2022 IEIE Transactions on Smart Processing & Computing Vol.11 No.5

This paper presents a novel high-throughput SHA-256 design exploiting approximate computing. The 32-bit addition of the SHA-256 architecture consumes a lot of hardware resources, hence we suggest a split k-bit adder-based SHA-256 design to significantly reduce hardware resources while ensuring acceptable hash functionality. The proposed designs enhance the area, delay, and energy when employed with 28-nm CMOS technology by 8.9%, 45.7%, and 9.3% in the 2-bit configuration and 15%, 52.9%, and 11.3% in the 1-bit configuration, respectively, compared to the conventional SHA-256 design. Additionally, the proposed designs improve the area-delay product (ADP), energy-delay product (EDP), and throughput performances by at least 19.1%, 20.2%, and 18.6% with a maximum of 149.8%, 139.3%, and 112.1%, respectively, compared to the traditional design. Additionally, all of the proposed designs obtain a higher average of Avalanche effect than the traditional ones, and all the message digests generated by the proposed SHA-256 are randomly distributed.

      • Crossmodal representation of affective states based on behavioral and physiological data

Vol.2021 No.0

In this study we explored representation of affective states derived from stimuli of multiple modalities. We used the multidimensional scaling (MDS) and classification techniques to decode affective information, and found that representation of emotion is consistent across different modalities.

      • A Comparison of Cervical Flexion, Pain, and Clinical Depression in Frequency of Smartphone Use

        Junhyuk Park,Kwangho Kim,Namkang Kim,Inwon Choi,Sujung Lee,Sajin Tak,Jongeun Yim 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Bio-Science and Bio-Techn Vol.7 No.3

In the past decade, there has been a rapid increase in the use of mobile phones and other small hand-held devices for communication. A forward head posture (turtle neck posture) is becoming more common with the increasing popularity of smartphones. The aim of this study was to evaluate the craniovertebral angle, head position angle, pain threshold of the sternocleidomastoid and upper trapezius muscles, and presence of depression in heavy smartphone users compared to a control group. Twenty healthy students participated in the study. The participants were recruited from Sahmyook University and were divided into a heavy user group (n=10) and a control group (n=10) according to smartphone addiction proneness. All protocols and procedures were approved by the Institutional Review Board of Sahmyook University (Seoul, South Korea) and all the subjects signed a statement of informed consent. Participants in both groups were assessed for their pain pressure threshold of the sternocleidomastoid and upper trapezius muscles, craniovertebral angle and head position angle, and depression. When comparing the results between the two groups, there were significant differences in the pain threshold of the sternocleidomastoid and upper trapezius muscles, head position angle, and depression (p<.05), but not in the craniovertebral angle. Based on the results, this study shows that heavy smartphone use may produce considerable stresses on the cervical spine, thus changing the cervical curve and pain threshold of the muscles around the neck. Smartphones could also cause negative effects on a person’s psychological status, such as depression. Therefore, individuals should make an effort to look at their phones with a neutral spine and to avoid spending hours hunched over their screens each day.
