Vol.22 No.5
‘COVID-19’, which caused a global pandemic, has affected not only our daily lives, but also the stories, formats, and types of content we experience. In circumstances where going out and travel is restricted, the explosive growth of online video content industry based on YouTube and various OTT service platforms continues. Moreover, animation is expanding its storytelling through diverse media and is trying to overcome the framework and limitations of the genre. In particular, ‘short-form animation’, one of the short-form contents, is applied as a main means of providing information about COVID-19 to the public using video platforms. Since a well-known animation can retell its story to fit a specific topic or deliver information in an easy and fun way with songs and dances, it can be familiar to all ages. In this study, we aimed to analyze storytelling by looking into cases of short-form animations produced based on information and precautions related to COVID-19. The research subjects were three ‘Larva’ series created by the Ministry of Health and Welfare of South Korea, which recorded the most views on YouTube among short-form animations related to COVID-19 in Korea (as of August 23, 2021). The study focusing on the background, plot, story, and characters of each ‘Larva’ series shows that the episodes were designed with storytelling in which crisis and climax are key elements of the plot line, and that the story unfolded around a single event, excluding conflicts or confrontations between characters. Also, by expressing the process of virus spread, infection, and death, it dramatically conveyed a strong message in a short time using fear as the appeal. Thus, the medium characteristics and storytelling of short-form animation have specificity in the expression of the pandemic situation. This study has limitations in analyzing only some of the short-form animations related to COVID-19, so further extensive studies on short-form animations based on various materials are required in the future. It is expected that this study will be utilized as research data for the specificity of storytelling when delivering a message through short-form animation in special pandemic situations.

Purpose: To investigate the effect of head tilt on the tube position of the Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) implanted in patientswith glaucoma and to assess how the head tilt-induced alterations of tube parameters and the level of tube entry influencecorneal endothelial cell density (ECD). Methods: A total of 29 eyes of 26 patients with AGV implantation were included. Tube-cornea distance, tube-cornea angle, and intracameral tube length were measured using anterior segment optical coherence tomography in three different headpositions (neutral, 30° temporalward tilt, and 30° nasalward tilt). The tube entry was assessed using static gonioscopy. ECDwas measured using specular microscopy before and after surgery. Results: The mean tube-cornea distance, tube-cornea angle, and intracameral tube length (neutral: 0.87 ± 0.39 mm, 30.56 ±5.89˚, and 3.10 ± 0.82 mm, respectively) decreased with head tilts (temporalward: 0.82 ± 0.39 mm, 29.27 ± 5.82˚, and 3.04 ±0.82 mm, respectively; nasalward: 0.83 ± 0.40 mm, 29.61 ± 6.04˚, and 3.05 ± 0.81 mm, respectively; all p < 0.01). The multivariateanalyses found age and the tube insertion level to be associated with postoperative changes in the central ECD (p = 0.039and 0.013, respectively), and the postoperative follow-up period and tube insertion level to be associated with the differencebetween the inferonasal and superotemporal ECDs (p = 0.034 and 0.007, respectively). Conclusions: Mild alterations of head positions induced changes in the intracameral tube positions of AGV implants; nevertheless,it did not significantly affect ECD loss. However, the eyes with tubes inserted anteriorly to Schwalbe’s line may bemore susceptible to corneal ECD loss.
Pituitary Apoplexy After Leuprolide Therapy in a Breast Cancer Patient: A Case Report
2023 Brain Tumor Research and Treatment Vol.11 No.2
Pituitary apoplexy (PA) is a clinical syndrome resulting from sudden hemorrhage and/or infarction of the pituitary gland. Recent reports documented the development of PA secondary to treatment with gonadotropin- releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists for prostate cancer. A 52-year-old woman visited our emergency room with a severe headache, occurred 1 day prior. She underwent breast-conserving surgery for breast cancer 1 month prior. She was currently undergoing radiation and hormone therapy, consisting of leuprorelin. Brain contrast-enhanced MRI revealed a pituitary adenoma with internal hemorrhage in the sellar and suprasellar areas. Pachymeningeal enhancement was observed along the retroclival and bilateral frontal areas. The patient was diagnosed with PA and aseptic meningitis. The patient underwent total excision via transsphenoidal surgery 8 days after admission. The patient was pathologically diagnosed with a pituitary adenoma with necrosis. On immunochemical staining, the tumor was positive for follicle-stimulating hormone. The follow-up MRI revealed no evidence of residual tumor or an improved pachymeningeal enhancement. She is currently undergoing follow-up at the neurosurgery and endocrinology outpatient departments with no noted complications. In breast cancer patients receiving GnRH agonist therapy, PA may be rare complication.
Extreme Risk Spillover in Financial Markets : Evidence from the Recent Financial Crisis
2015 Seoul journal of economics Vol.28 No.2
This paper evaluates the data from the recent financial crisis to examine the risk spillover effects of financial markets value at risk (VaR), which captures the extreme behavior of an asset, is considered a measure of risk in an asset or in a market. We hypothesize that an extreme downside movement of returns in a market measured by a VaR has negative effects on other markets, causing a similar movement of returns in the latter. In particular, we postulate that in the recent crisis, an extreme downside movement in a major market affected other markets, and that these effects intensified. Our empirical results based on the data from several countries with various markets confirm these postulates.
