        Pyridine vapor annealing induced reversible switching emission and enhanced electroluminescent performance of poly(fluorene-co-dibenzothiophene-S,S-dioxide)

        In this article, we report on blue-green exciplex emission through pyridine solvent vapor annealing blue-light polymerPFSO10, which is comprised the strong electron-withdrawing dibenzo-thiophene- S , S -dioxide with the molar ratio of 10%. The photoluminescent spectrum of PFSO10 fi lm emerged a fresh low-energy emission peaked at 482 nm after pyridinesolvent vapor annealing, which was stemmed from the exciplex charge-transfer state between the PFSO10 and pyridine. It isworth noting that the exciplex emission peaked at 482 nm from the pyridine solvent vapor annealing fi lm was disappearedafter thermal annealed at 120 °C and its photoluminescent spectrum was similar to that of the pristine PFSO10 fi lm. Thissimilar phenomenon of photoluminescent spectrum was also occurred to the electroluminescent spectra of the PFSO10fi lms. Furthermore, the device performance of PFSO10 was achieved signifi cant improvement after pyridine solvent vaporannealing. With optimizing the pyridine vapor annealing process, the device based on PFSO10 as emissive layer receiveda maximum luminous effi ciency of 6.74 cd A −1 with the peak brightness of 22,364 cd m −2 , which was enlarged over 140%compared to that of 2.77 cd A −1 for the pristine PFSO10. These results demonstrate that appropriate solvent vapor annealingcan be a simple and eff ective strategy to realize the reversible switching emission and improve the device performance.

        Multiple Primary Cardiac Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumors in the Left Atrium: Case Report

        Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors are rare sarcomas of the heart. Herein, we re- port the case of a 24-year-old man who complained of dyspnea, cough, and upper left back pain. He was found to have multiple primary heart tumors obstructing the right su- perior pulmonary vein in the left atrium, which were diagnosed as malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors. The patient underwent successful resection of the tumors and im- munohistochemistry was utilized for diagnosis.

        DSL: Dynamic and Self-Learning Schedule Method of Multiple Controllers in SDN

        For the reliability of controllers in a software defined network (SDN), a dynamic and self-learning schedule method (DSL) is proposed. This method is original and easy to deploy, and optimizes the combination of multiple controllers. First, we summarize multiple controllers’ combinations and schedule problems in an SDN and analyze its reliability. Then, we introduce the architecture of the schedule method and evaluate multi-controller reliability, the DSL method, and its optimized solution. By continually and statistically learning the information about controller reliability, this method treats it as a metric to schedule controllers. Finally, we compare and test the method using a given testing scenario based on an SDN network simulator. The experiment results show that the DSL method can significantly improve the total reliability of an SDN compared with a random schedule, and the proposed optimization algorithm has higher efficiency than an exhaustive search.

        Ginseng improves cognitive deficit via the RAGE/NF-kB pathway in advanced glycation end product-induced rats

        Background: Ginseng, the root of Panax ginseng (PG), is used widely as a herbal medicine to prevent andtreat various diseases. Panax ginseng has pharmacological effects on neurodegenerative diseases such asAlzheimer’s disease (AD). The present study evaluated the neuroprotective effects of PG and its possibleneuroprotective mechanisms in advanced glycation end product (AGE)-induced AD in a rat model. Methods: Advanced glycation end products were injected bilaterally into the CA3 region of the rats’brains. The Morris water maze test and step-down type passive avoidance test were performed toevaluate their memory and cognitive abilities. The oxidation indexes in the hippocampus were detected. Immunohistochemistry was conducted to visualize the receptors for advanced glycation end products(RAGEs) and nuclear factor-kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cell (NF-kB). Results: Behavioral results showed that PG (1 g/kg, 0.5 g/kg, and 0.25 g/kg) significantly shortened theescape latency, remarkably increased the number of crossing times, significantly decreased the numberof errors, and prolonged the latency in rats with AGE-induced AD. Panax ginseng also significantlyreduced the malondialdehyde level, increased the glutathione content, and increased superoxide dismutaseactivity in the hippocampus. Panax ginseng significantly decreased the expression of RAGE andNF-kB. The blockade of anti-RAGE antibody could significantly reduce AGE-induced impairments andregulate these expressions. Conclusion: Our results demonstrated that PG significantly inhibits AGE-induced memory impairmentand attenuates Alzheimer-like pathophysiological changes. These neuroprotective effects of PG may beassociated with the RAGE/NF-kB pathway. Our results provided the experimental basis for applying PG inpreventing and treating AD.

        Attitudes Toward People With Disabilities: The Tripartite Model, Social Desirability, and Other Controversial Variables

        In this study, 213 South Korean undergraduate participants completed an online survey including demographic information (gender, religious beliefs, and past contact with people with disabilities) and a Korean version of the Multidimensional Attitudes Scale toward Persons with Disabilities (MAS-K) and the Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale (M-C II). The results indicate that participants varied across the three attitudinal domains in the MAS-K (cognition, behavior, and affect). No significant results were found connecting MAS-K scores to participants’ demographic variables. However, social desirability was related to participants’ responses on the MAS-K. Implications for these findings are discussed.

        Effect of scramjet combustor configuration on the distribution of transverse injection kerosene

        The effect of combustor configuration on the distribution of transverse injection kerosene was investigated in a direct-connected supersoniccombustor equipped with multi-cavities, at the inflow condition of Ma = 2.64. The combustor configuration included a single cavity,cavities in tandem and cavities in parallel. The distribution of kerosene injected upstream of a cavity was observed by high speedphotography. The experiments showed that the kerosene transverse jet shows strong turbulence characteristics. Only a small portion ofkerosene can be engulfed into the cavity, as the main portion is transported downstream in the core flow. Even with a high injection pressure,the kerosene jet from one side of the combustor cannot achieve a well distribution, since the kerosene cannot cross through the mainflow to reach the opposite side wall. Double cavities in tandem show a better performance in improving mixing and penetration for kerosenein the core flow, and the sequence of cavities seems have no effect on the injection. By increasing the fuel injection pressure, morekerosene is injected into the core flow, and less is engulfed into the cavity.

        Traffic Offloading in Two-Tier Multi-Mode Small Cell Networks over Unlicensed Bands: A Hierarchical Learning Framework

        This paper investigates the traffic offloading over unlicensed bands for two-tier multi-mode small cell networks. We formulate this problem as a Stackelberg game and apply a hierarchical learning framework to jointly maximize the utilities of both macro base station (MBS) and small base stations (SBSs). During the learning process, the MBS behaves as a leader and the SBSs are followers. A pricing mechanism is adopt by MBS and the price information is broadcasted to all SBSs by MBS firstly, then each SBS competes with other SBSs and takes its best response strategies to appropriately allocate the traffic load in licensed and unlicensed band in the sequel, taking the traffic flow payment charged by MBS into consideration. Then, we present a hierarchical Q-learning algorithm (HQL) to discover the Stackelberg equilibrium. Additionally, if some extra information can be obtained via feedback, we propose an improved hierarchical Q-learning algorithm (IHQL) to speed up the SBSs` learning process. Last but not the least, the convergence performance of the proposed two algorithms is analyzed. Numerical experiments are presented to validate the proposed schemes and show the effectiveness.
