Morphological, Phylogenetic and Biological Characteristics of Ectropisobliqua Single-Nucleocapsid Nucleopolyhedrovirus

        Chuan-Xi Zhang,Hai-Jun Xu,Mei-Jun Tang,Qiang Xiao,Jian Hong,Xiu-cui Ma 한국미생물학회 2006 The journal of microbiology Vol.44 No.1

The tea looper caterpillar, Ectropis obliqua, is one of the major pests of tea bushes. E. obliqua single-nucleocapsid nucleopolyhedrovirus (EcobSNPV) has been used as a commercial pesticide for biocontrol of this insect. However only limited genetic analysis for this important virus has been done up to now. EcobSNPV was characterized in this study. Electron microscopy analysis of the occlusion body showed polyhedra of 0.7 to 1.7 μm in diameter containing a single nucleocapsid per envelope of the virion. A 15.5 kb genomic fragment containing EcoRI-L, EcoRI-N and HindIII-F fragments, was sequenced. Analysis of the sequence revealed that the fragment contained eleven potential open reading frames (ORFs): lef-1, egt, 38.7k, rr1, polyhedrin, orf1629, pk-1, hoar and homologues to Spodoptera exigua multicapsid NPV (SeMNPV) ORFs 15, 28, and 29. Gene arrangement and phylogeny analysis suggest that EcobSNPV is closely related to the previously described Group II NPV. Bioassays on lethal concentration (LC50 and LC90) and lethal time (LT50 and LT90) were conducted to test the susceptibility of E. obliqua larvae to the virus.

Improving Patient Safety and Control in Operating Room by Leveraging RFID Technology

        Chuan-Jun Su 대한산업공학회 2009 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.8 No.1

Patient safety has become a growing concern in health care. The U.S. Institute of Medicine (IOM) report “To Err Is Human: Building a Safer Health System” in 1999 included estimations that medical error is the eighth leading cause of death in the United States and results in up to 100,000 deaths annually. However, many adverse events and errors occur in surgical practice. Within all kinds of surgical adverse events, wrongside/wrong-site, wrong-procedure, and wrong-patient adverse events are the most devastating, unacceptable, and often result in litigation. Much literature claims that systems must be put in place to render it essentially impossible or at least extremely difficult for human error to cause harm to patients. Hence, this research aims to develop a prototype system based on active RFID that detects and prevents errors in the OR. To fully comprehend the operating room (OR) process, multiple rounds of on site discussions were conducted. IDEF0 models were subsequently constructed for identifying the opportunity of improvement and performing before-after analysis. Based on the analysis, the architecture of the proposed RFID-based OR system was developed. An on-site survey conducted subsequently for better understanding the hardware requirement will then be illustrated. Finally, an RFID-enhanced system based on both the proposed architecture and test results was developed for gaining better control and improving the safety level of the surgical operations.

      • Roles of mTOR and p-mTOR in Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors

Li, Jun-Chuan,Zhu, Hong-Yu,Chen, Ting-Xuan,Zou, Lan-Ying,Wang, Xiao-Yan,Zhao, Hui-Chuan,Xu, Jun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.10

Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between expression of mammal target of rapamycin (mTOR) and phosphorylation of mTOR (p-mTOR) protein in the PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathways in gastrointestinal stromal tumors and relatiuonships with clinical factors. Methods: Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of the associated proteins mTOR, p-mTOR, and phosphorylation of the tumor suppressor genes PTEN, P27, VEGF, and EGFR in 40 cases of gastrointestinal stromal tumors, with division into a very low and low risk group as well as a moderate and high risk group. Results: The positive rate of mTOR and p-mTOR was significantly increased in the moderate and high risk group compared with the very low and low risk group. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). When grouped according to size, the positive mTOR expression rate exhibited a statistical difference (P<0.05), which was significantly increased in the group of tumors larger than 5 cm. The difference in the positive mTOR and p-mTOR expression rate exhibit no statistical significance among the PTEN, P27, VEGF, and EGFR expression subgroups (P>0.05). Conclusion: The different expressions of mTOR and p-mTOR in the signal transduction pathway of gastrointestinal stromal tumor in the different degree-of-risk groups suggested that the mTOR and p-mTOR of the signal transduction pathway serve an important function in the occurrence and development of gastrointestinal stromal tumors.

Generalized Area Spectral Efficiency of Wireless Ad-hoc Networks over Rayleigh Fading

        Jun Zhu,Lei Zhang,Hong-Chuan Yang,Mazen O. Hasna 한국통신학회 2020 Journal of communications and networks Vol.22 No.4

Generalized area spectral efficiency (GASE) was introduced as a metric to quantify the spectral utilization efficiency ofwireless transmissions. Unlike other performance metrics, GASEtakes into account the spatial property of wireless transmissions. In this paper, we extend the research on GASE from link levelto network level. In particular, we consider a wireless ad-hoc network with Poisson distributed nodes. We take into account the cochannel interference and derive the generic closed-form momentgenerating function (MGF) expression of aggregate interferencein such network. With the interference statistics, we calculate theergodic capacity, affected area, and GASE of the network overRayleigh fading channels. Furthermore, we analyze the effect ofcarrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA)mechanism on the GASE performance of such network. Finally,we propose a new cognitive paradigm that allows the secondarytransmitters that are located outside the primary affected area totransmit. With this paradigm, we can achieve high ergodic capacitywhile effectively utilizing the space-spectrum resource of primarynetwork. Besides, through mathematical analysis and numericalexamples, we show that GASE provides a new perspective on transmission power selection and secondary network optimization.

Deep Leaky Single-peaked Triangle Neural Networks

        Chuan-Hui Shan,Xi-Rong Guo,Jun Ou 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2019 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.17 No.10

Recently, Deep learning has made a great deal of success in processing images, audios, and natural languages and so on. The activation function is one of the key factors in Deep learning. In this paper, according to characteristics of biological neurons, an improved Leaky Single-Peaked Triangle Linear Unit (LSPTLU) activation function is presented for the right-hand response unbounded of Rectified Linear Unit (ReLU) and Leaky ReLU(LReLU). LSPTLU is more in line with the biological neuron essence and achieves the excellent performance of equivalent or beyond ReLU and LReLU on different datsets, e.g., MNIST, Fashion-MNIST, SVHN, IMAGENET, CALTECH101 and CIFAR10 datasets.

Case Reports : Surgical Treatment for 11 Cases of Penile Verrucous Carcinoma

( Chuan Yu Sun ),( Xu Ke ),( Zheng Jie ),( Guo Wei Xia ),( Zu Jun Fang ),( Qiang Ding ) 대한피부과학회 2011 Annals of Dermatology Vol.23 No.3s

Penile verrucous carcinoma is a rare, well-differentiated and low-grade tumor. The surgeons are deficiently aware about the biological behavior and the clinicopathological characteristic of this disease, which raises difficulties during the treatment. In our present study, the clinical and pathological data of 11 patients with penile verrucous carcinoma, aged between 49 to 85 years was retrospectively analyzed. The tumors exhibited exophytic, papillary, caulifower-like or verrucose lesions of great dimensions measuring between 2 to 10 cm on the penises. The tumors were located at glans in 6 cases, invaded the coronoid sulcus in 4 cases and invaded the shaft of the penis in 1 case. Eight cases underwent partial penectomy, while the other 3 were treated with local excision. The diagnosis of penile verrucous carcinoma was confirmed by histopathologic examination of the specimens with the negative surgical margins in all the cases. Within the period of 12 to 60 months of follow-up, all the patients were disease-free with no case of recurrence and metastasis. The novel knowledge and experience of the treatment of penile verrucous carcinoma will be a useful clinical guide for surgeons in the future. (Ann Dermatol 23(S3) S346~S349, 2011)
