Spontaneous Height Restoration of Vertebral Compression Fracture - A Case Report-

Joo, Young,Lee, Pyung-Bok,Nahm, Francis Sahngun The Korean Pain Society 2011 The Korean Journal of Pain Vol.24 No.4

Vertebral compression fractures result in vertebral height loss and alter sagittal spinal alignment, which in turn can lead to increased morbidity and mortality. Acute osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures are known to increase mobility and instability of the spine. There are limited published data correlating the degree of dynamic mobility and the efficacy of kyphoplasty on vertebral compression fractures. Here we report a 73-year-old female with a severe acute osteoporotic L2 compression fracture who obtained total vertebral height restoration following kyphoplasty, with resolution of back pain.

Vol.34 No.4

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships and cooperation between central and local governments in terms of the differences in how central and local government employees perceive such inter-governmental relationships. In this study, the factors affecting inter-governmental relationships and cooperation were central participation, fiscal relationships, and personnel exchange programs. Analysis showed that central participation, fiscal relationships, and personnel exchange programs can improve relationships and cooperation between central and local governments and that central and local government employees have different perceptions of inter-governmental relationships and cooperation. Thus, central participation, fiscal relationships, and personnel exchange programs should be strategically utilized to improve relationships and cooperation between central and local governments.

Street dance

Vol.32 No.3

Street dance is the popular culture based on the free action. The culture of battle, busking, jam and cypher that is the most representative culture of street dance is the popular culture which destroys the boundary of space between ordinary world and arts by pursuing post-theater and appraised by the public by introducing their own dances in front of unspecified majority audience. They are willing to create their own actions and want to be respected through self-immersion and concentration so that the street dance that is performed in the strange and uneasy circumstances can be appraised by the public. The equal and horizontal relationship are made through the dance and opportunity of being grown up by exchanging the reaction based on the dance. The space decides the space to dance and the place to stay by itself by pursuing new and strange one not as the different attempt to attract the people’s attention, grants the meaning of the shared space that shares the aesthetic experience by the actions in aspect of ‘human body’ and creates the reconceptualization of the place regarding street dance. Current performing street dance, it becomes the stage on the street. Moreover, all are the participants and observers as well in the space of the unspecified majority and the rolls of artists and audiences are converted in free and active ways. Therefore, ‘space’ forms the platform that recognizes ‘myself’ as well as provides the opportunity of knowing true ‘myself’ through free and instant actions. As the community pursues the external directionality in the space of such street dance, it can be called as the open space, anything is possible and all can happen in the open space. That is because it expresses its own presence by occupying the identity of such space regarding that street dance creates the variety of contents by coming and going the real and media worlds and the cultural phenomenon is made through new and strange playful situation as well globally today, Street dance pursues the external directionality of space thoroughly and such directionality extends the mental dimension that enables the respect and consideration as well as the sustainablity of the attitude of admitting and accepting the variety.

Analyzing vowel variation in Korean dialects using phone recognition

Vol.15 No.4

This study aims to propose an automatic method of detecting vowel variation in the Korean dialects of Gyeong-sang and Jeol-la. The method is based on error patterns extracted using phone recognition. Canonical and recognized phone sequences are compared, and statistical analyses distinguish the vowels appearing in both dialects, the dialect-common vowels, and the vowels with high mismatch rates for each dialect. The dialect-common vowels show monophthongization of diphthongs. The vowels unique to the dialects are /we/ to [e] and /ʌ/ to [ɯ] for Gyeong-sang dialect, and /ɰi/ to [ɯ] in Jeol-la dialect. These results corroborate previous dialectology reports regarding phonetic realization of the Korean dialects. The current method provides a possibility of automatic explanation of the dialect patterns.

      • Fingerprint DB Generating System Exploiting PDR based Dynamic Collection for Indoor Localization of Smart-phone Users

Vol.2013 No.10

The fingerprinting has been considered as a promising method for indoor localization due to the robustness from the multi-path than other methods exploiting wireless signals. However, the fingerprinting method has serious limitation which it requires too much time and cost to construct a DB (Data Base) before positioning. In conventional static collection based fingerprint DB generation system, it usually takes up to several minutes to obtain a radio pattern for a single reference point comprising very small part of whole service areas. To overcome the drawback, the fingerprint DB generation system based on the dynamic collection, which breaks the tradition of the radio pattern collection, is proposed. In contrast to the conventional collection method, a collector carrying a smart-phone moves pre-designated routes in service areas, and the position and the radio patterns are autonomously gathered by the collecting application in the smart-phone at every seconds. With the dynamically collected data, then, the fingerprint DB is finally generated by averaging method. From the experimental results, it is validated that the proposed collection method remarkably improves the efficiency of the collection. Also, the positioning using the generated DB shows reasonable accuracy, 2.62m, in an indoor office environment.
