        『삼국사기』 초기기록에 반영된 중국계 원전(原典) 사료의 독법(讀法) - 고구려본기 유리왕 31년조 기사의 검토를 중심으로 -

        이 글은 『한서』 왕망전(王莽傳) 등에 보이는 ‘고구려후(高句驪侯) 추(騶)’의 참살에 관한 중국 측 자료와 그것을 전재하면서도 우리 측 자료를 토대로 하여 ‘고구려후 추’를 ‘아장(我將) 연비(延丕)’로 대체해 놓은 『삼국사기』 고구려본기의 ‘중국계 원전 사료’를 비교 검토한 글이다. 『한서』 왕망전을 비롯한 중국 측 자료에 보이는 시건국 4년(서기 12)의 사건, 즉 왕망이 보낸 장수 엄우(嚴尤)에게 당시 ‘고구려후 추’라고 불리던 고구려의 왕이 참살당한 사건은 실제로 있었던 일이며, 『삼국사기』 고구려본기 유리왕 31년조에서 『한서』 왕망전의 기사를 발췌하여 실으면서 피살당한 객체를 ‘고구려후 추’가 아니라 ‘아장 연비’로 바꾸어 놓은 것은 실상을 반영하는 것이 아님을 확인하였다. ‘아장 연비’의 피살은 ‘고구려후 추’의 피살과는 별개로 고구려 유리왕 재위 시기에 벌어진 중국 세력과의 전쟁에서 발생한 다른 사건이고, 엄우에 의해 피살당한 ‘고구려후 추’는 고구려의 건국 시조로 알려진 ‘추모왕’으로 보는 것이 합리적임을 밝혔다. In this paper, I compared a Korean article from Samguksagi(『三國史記』) with a Chinese one from Hanshu(『漢書』), both of which deal with the war between Koguryo(高句麗) and Xin(新). The former says that Yeonbi(延丕), a Koguryo’s general was beheaded by Xin’s general Umwoo(嚴尤) in A.D. 12. However, to our surprise, the latter, which is the original article of the former, tells us that it was the very king of Koguryo whose name was Choo(騶), not the general, that was killed by Umwoo. The conclusions I have reached are as follows; 1) The incident actually happened in A.D. 12 that Umwoo killed Choo, not Yeonbi, as appeared in Hanshu. 2) Yeonbi was killed in a war, different from the incident in A.D. 12. 3) Choo is the abbreviation of Choomo(鄒牟), who has been regarded as the founder of Koguryo, one of the three ancient kingdoms of Korea.         The Lasing Characteristics of a Passively Q-Switched Nd:YVO4 Laser Using a Cr:YAG Saturable Absorber

        A diode-pumped, passively Q-switched Nd:YVO$_4$ laser was fabricated. A composite crystal, 0.6 \% Nd doped YVO$_4$ crystal block bonded with an undoped YVO$_4$ crystal cap, was used. The end cap reduced thermal lensing as well as thermal stress, when the crystal was end pumped by using a fiber coupled diode laser. Cr:YAG crystals with initial transmission of 80 \% or 90 \% were used as saturable absorbers. For each Cr:YAG crystal, several output couplers with different reflectivity were tested. The variations in the pulsewidth, the pulse repetition rate, and the average output power of the passively Q-switched laser were measured while varying the diode pump power for each value of the output coupler reflectivity and the Cr:YAG initial transmission. The dependences of the lasing characteristics on the output coupler reflectivity and the Cr:YAG initial transmission were explained.

      • SOC/Capacity Estimation of a Li-Ion Battery based on Pattern Recognition at Different Temperature

        Differences in electrochemical characteristics among Li-Ion batteries caused by temperature effect result in erroneous state-of-charge (SOC)/capacity estimations when using the existing dual extended Kalman filter (DEKF) algorithm is used. Therefore, this study presents an application of the DEKF based on pattern recognition combined with empirical parameters measurement for high accuracy SOC/capacity estimations at various temperatures. The averaged 9 discharging/charging voltage-temperature (DCVT) patterns for 10 fresh Li-Ion batteries at experimental temperatures are measured as representative patterns, together with battery model parameters such as capacity, open circuit voltage (OCV), and two resistances (Ri, RDiff). Through statistical analysis, the Hamming network is applied for identification of the representative pattern that matches most closely of the pattern of the arbitrary battery to be measured at any temperature. Based on temperature-checking process, model parameters for representative DCVT pattern can be then applied to estimate SOC/capacity of an arbitrary battery using the DEKF. This avoids the need for repeated parameter measurement.

        Discharging/Charging Voltage-Temperature Pattern Recognition for Improved SOC/Capacity Estimation and SOH Prediction at Various Temperatures

        This study investigates an application of the Hamming network-dual extended Kalman filter (DEKF) based on pattern recognition for high accuracy state-of-charge (SOC)/capacity estimation and state-of-health (SOH) prediction at various temperatures. The averaged nine discharging/charging voltage-temperature (DCVT) patterns for ten fresh Li-Ion cells at experimental temperatures are measured as representative patterns, together with cell model parameters. Through statistical analysis, the Hamming network is applied to identify the representative pattern that matches most closely with the pattern of an arbitrary cell measured at any temperature. Based on temperature-checking process, model parameters for a representative DCVT pattern can then be applied to estimate SOC/capacity and to predict SOH of an arbitrary cell using the DEKF. This avoids the need for repeated parameter measuremet.

        Comparative Analysis of SOC Estimation using EECM and NST in Rechargeable LiCoO2/LiFePO4/ LiNiMnCoO2 Cells

        Lithium rechargeable cells are used in many industrial applications, because they have high energy density and high power density. For an effective use of these lithium cells, it is essential to build a reliable battery management system (BMS). Therefore, the state of charge (SOC) estimation is one of the most important techniques used in the BMS. An appropriate modeling of the battery characteristics and an accurate algorithm to correct the modeling errors in accordance with the simplified model are required for practical SOC estimation. In order to implement these issues, this approach presents the comparative analysis of the SOC estimation performance using equivalent electrical circuit modeling (EECM) and noise suppression technique (NST) in three representative LiCoO2/LiFePO4/LiNiMnCoO2 cells extensively applied in electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and energy storage system (ESS) applications. Depending on the difference between some EECMs according to the number of RC-ladders and NST, the SOC estimation performances based on the extended Kalman filter (EKF) algorithm are compared. Additionally, in order to increase the accuracy of the EECM of the LiFePO4 cell, a minor loop trajectory for proper OCV parameterization is applied to the SOC estimation for the comparison of the performances among the compared to SOC estimation performance.

        How can we estimate carbon emissions and reduction of buildings at the local government level in South Korea?

        Background and objective: Carbon neutrality must be achieved across societal sectors through carbon neutral policies. Therefore, local governments, which realize the actual greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction, must develop GHG reduction strategies. This study aims to present information on the GHG reduction of the building sector (BS) at the local government level, for the carbon neutrality by 2050 (CN). Methods: The gross floor area (GFA) of all buildings and the total floor area of household (HBs), business (BBs), and public buildings (PBs) and by 2050 were predicted using building and demographic information from Jeollanam-do. Buildings were classified as over or under 10 years old. GHG emissions projection by 2050 were combined the GFA prediction results with public information on building energy consumption (BEC). After adjusting the nationwide CN goal for the BS in Jeollanam-do, the pathways for two scenarios were to estimate GHG reduction. Results: HBs showed the steepest increase in GFA, while BBs and PBs showed a very modest increase. About 30% of HBs and BBs were under 10 years and about 70% were over 10 years. The HB's GHG emissions increased remarkably, reflecting the GFA results, while the emissions of BBs and PBs didn't raised much. GHG reduction targets by 2030 were calculated as 1.4, 0.7, and 0.35 million TOE for HBs, BBs, and PBs, respectively. Reduction Scenario 1 shows a straight-line path with a negative slope from 2023. Reduction Scenario 2 shows an increase in emissions after 2023, which begins to decrease from 2028, falling with a curved steep slope until 2035, followed by a very modest decline until 2050. Conclusion: This study calculated GHG emissions from the BS by 2050 using the latest information on BEC and GHG calculation guidelines. The method in this study helps establish regional/local GHG reduction targets, setting scenarios, and estimating GHG reduction.

      • Equivalent Circuit Modeling of PEM Fuel Cell Degradation Combined With a LFRC

        <P>This approach investigates with an equivalent circuit modeling a polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cell degradation combined with a low-frequency ripple current (LFRC) that may shorten the fuel cell life and worsen the fuel efficiency. Through the immediate measurement of the impedance curves on single cells obtained after cycling for hours and operating in cathode flooding and membrane dehydration modes at variable frequencies, it has been shown that the impedance magnitude of a fuel cell injecting a LFRC increased when compared with that of a high-frequency ripple current. This study develops these investigations one step further by designing equivalent circuit elements like resistance and capacitance by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Impedance-based model is able to describe the dynamic behavior of the PEM fuel cell. For validation of the proposed fuel cell model, an experimental study has been carried out for a 1.2-kW Nexa module.</P>

      • LISTENPHOTO : AUTOMATIC MUSIC ANNOTATED PHOTO BROWSING SYSTEM

        The popularization of the digital camera and advent of U.C.C., the amount of photos has exploded and the time for watching them has been increased. Photos make the viewers look back on their memories and stimulate their susceptibility. However, previous studies were limited to managing and searching for photos. In this paper, we proposed a multi modal photo browsing system that automatically selects and plays an appropriate music when watching a photo album via analyzing each photos. The system extracts features of each photo, analyzes the features compared with pre-learned information, and matches the result with the pre-classified music. We made an early user study comparing our multimodal photo browsing system. watching photo album without any background music and with randomly chosen music. The proposed. system selects a well matched music of each photo and increases the users' satisfaction by stimulating their emotional susceptibility. We expect that the proposed system will enrich the digital photo life.
