        A TRACE-TYPE FUNCTIONAL METHOD FOR DETERMINATION OF A COEFFICIENT IN AN INVERSE HEAT CONDUCTION PROBLEM

        This paper investigates the inverse problem of determining an unknown heat radiative coefficient, which is only time-dependent. This is an ill-posed problem, that is, small errors in data may cause huge deviations in determining solution. In this paper, the existence and uniqueness of the problem is established by the second Volterra integral equation theory, and the method of trace-type functional formulation combined with finite difference scheme is studied. One typical numerical example using the proposed method is illustrated and discussed.

        Regularized solution to the Fredholm integral equation of the first kind with noisy data

        In this paper, we use a modified Tikhonov regularization method to solve the Fredholm integral equation of the first kind. Under the assumption that measured data are contaminated with deterministic errors, we give two error estimates. The convergence rates can be obtained under the suitable choices of regularization parameters and the number of measured points. Some numerical experiments show that the proposed method is effective and stable.

        What is the Driving Force Behind the Globalisation of Karate? From a Chinese Viewpoint

        Although scholars have discussed the globalisation of karate and its spread worldwide. However, the current study only discusses the spread of karate in the West through the logical reasoning of the researchers, based on scattered evidence. Thus, in this study, the authors collected 40 karate books written by Chinese people and extracted their views on it with the aim of clarifying the force responsible for the globalisation of karate from a ‘non-Western’ perspective. This study analyses their views using reflexive thematic analysis and suggests, first, the modernisation of karate was accelerated by the introduction of tournaments, and some Chinese martial artists noticed karate techniques and the rules of a contest, expecting to learn from its success. Karate became an Olympic sport in 2016, which led the Chinese to reflect on and study in depth the model of promoting the globalisation of karate. This implies that karate is recommended and actively introduced in China by the Chinese. Second, the Chinese believe that karate is a ‘one-hit kill’ (一擊必殺), implying that a single movement can kill the enemy. However, they firmly believe that the practice of karate over time not only reduces this potentially dangerous and violent nature but also promotes the health of the practitioner’s body and mind. Thus, in their perception, karate is likely to exist and function as a ‘Dao’ (道) of both the literary and martial arts.

        Association of MMP-9 C-1562T polymorphism with risk of Henoch-Schönlein purpura nephritis in children of southeast China

        Henoch-Schönlein purpura nephritis (HSPN) is the most prevalent vasculitis in childhood worldwide. Although the etiology of HSPN is not yet fully elucidated, it is believed to be closely related with infections and genetic predispositions. In this study, a cohort of children from southeast China, including 108 healthy controls and 184 patients were involved in. We scanned the promoter region and the whole gene for genetic variations. A C/T transition located in the promoter region of MMP-9 gene, C-1562T was identified. Subjects were genotyped by using SNaPshot sequencing and the frequencies of CC, CT and TT genotypes were 43, 33 and 24% in patients and 53, 37 and 10% in healthy controls. Allele distribution was found to be in Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium (P = 0.17). Association analysis revealed that the polymorphism was significantly related with HSPN risk (P < 0.05) and T allele was shown to be a risk factor (P = 0.003, odds ratio (OR) 1.63, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.13–2.34). Additionally, we measured the serum MMP-9 concentration and quantified the mRNA expression. Results showed that an elevated protein level was observed in patients compared with controls in both ELISA (P = 0.0029, 136.5 μg/L vs. 103.9 μg/L) and Western blot assays. Furthermore, we also detected 1.93-fold increase in the mRNA transcription in patients carrying homozygous TT genotype, indicating enhanced promoter activity caused by the polymorphism. Based on the incidence risk, a cut-off value of serum MMP-9 served as HSPN diagnosis was suggested at 155 μg/L. Conclusively, our findings suggested that MMP-9 polymorphism was significantly associated with HSPN susceptibility, and C-1562T T allele contributed to HSPN development.

        Abusive Language in Chinese and English

        Abusive language used by college students reflects current social attitudes and values. Adopting a comparative and cross-cultural perspective, this study examines the frequency and perceived severity of abusive language in English and Mandarin Chinese. Because Abusive language often includes sexual connotations, this paper employs a particular concentration on sexism. Gender differences in the use of abusive language illustrate a male bias across cultures.

        The Development of Karate in China: Using Literature Review to Explore Karate from the Perspective of Chinese

        Karate is growing rapidly in China. As of 2021, 21 provinces, cities, and autonomous regions in China have established karate associations, and there are around 300,000-400,000 karate practitioners in China. However, little research has been done on the understanding and discussion of karate among the Chinese. This paper used literature review to reveal the Chinese perspectives on karate. The “karate” was used as a keyword to search relevant newspapers and articles in the People’s Daily and CNKI databases. Besides, books about karate from the National Library of China were compiled. The results showed that since the 1980s, the debate on karate has gradually emerged in China. From the 1980s to the 1990s, the Chinese have always held the understanding that karate originated from the Chinese martial arts of the Tang Dynasty. This understanding may have been brought into China by the Chinese who had been to Japan. However, this understanding is unreliable, and many Chinese martial art researchers accept this theory uncritically. Since 2010, with the introduction of karate majors in some Chinese universities, research on karate has increased rapidly. Chinese researchers have put forward a wide range of theories on the historical origin of karate by using the documents of China and Japan, such as Theory of the Thirty-six families from Min (久米三十六姓輸入説), Theory of development from Okinawan dance and so forth.

        운동생리학 : 저항운동이 여고생의 골밀도에 미치는 영향

        본 연구의 목적은 저항운동이 여고생의 요추 및 대퇴 골밀도에 미치는 영향을 알아보는데 있다. 실험집단의 피험자는 역도초보자 5명과 비교집단 5명의 여고생을 대상으로 실시하였다. 비교집단은 나이와 신장을 실험집단과 일치되도록 하였다. 운동집단은 역도경기 기록증대를 위한 저항운동을 1년 동안 실시하였다. 운동 처치 전후에 피험자의 대퇴골 목, 대퇴삼각부, 큰대퇴골돌기, 그리고 요추의 골밀도를 측정하였으며, 또한 인상과 용상의 기록의 변화도 측정하였다. 실험처치 1년간 대퇴골의 골밀도는 유의한 변화가 없었었나, 요추부위 L3에서 약 8.4%의 유의한 증가가 있었다. 그리고 전체 요추부위의 골밀도도 약4.6%유의한 증가가 나타났다. 인상과 용상 기록은 실험전 45.0±2.7kg 와 58.1±3.1kg에서 실험후 54.4±1.9kg 와 70.0±3.7kg 으로 각 유의한 증가가 있었다. 이상과 같은 결과를 종합하면 저항운동(역도)은 성장기 아동들의 골밀도 및 최대골량치의 증가에 도움을 줄 수 있는 유용한 운동방법으로 판단되며, 운동을 통해 골밀도의 변화를 연구하고자 하는 경우에는 최소한 1년 이상의 연구기간의 필요하다고 생각된다. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of one-year resistance training on bone mineral density of female high-school students. The five female students as weight lifter beginners(WL) were voluntarily engaged in this study and the age and height matched female students were served as control group(CON). Bone mineral densities(BMD) were measured at Lumber 1-4 and Femur’s 3 sites(neck, ward’s triangle, and trochanter) with Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry. These results indicated that the training in WL had a significant effects on the change of BMD in Lumber vertebra but not in femoral area. It was showed that the increase of BMD in adolescence are affected by resistance training the more than weight and height. Based upon these results we conclude that the resistance training is very effective method of increasing BMD in female high-school students but at least need 1 year periodically practice.

        An Incipient On-Line Anomaly Detection Approach for the Dynamic Rolling Process

        Over the past decades, various methods have been developed to analysis and monitor the dynamic metal processes, specially theextensively used cold rolling process. However, some limitation still exists for the traditional data analysis tools to be implementedwell for these processes. For example, the performance of many of the traditional data analysis approaches cannot be guaranteedwhen the distribution assumption is violated. Meanwhile, it is still lack of systematic method to make good use of the huge conditionparameters. In this article we develop a viable on-line anomaly incipient detection technique towards the cold rolling process of steelsheets. Based on the condition-based SPC, the proposed approach can monitor the multi condition parameters as well as thecorresponding output characteristic in a real-time manner simultaneously and efficiently. It provides a framework for statisticalprocess monitoring development under such dynamic manufacturing environment in order to improve the detecting Sensitivity andSpecificity. The real data practical application verifies that this proposed approach can have an excellent performance without thenormal distribution assumption, thus it has great potential to be employed in a large application area.

        SITUATION ASSESSMENT FOR LANE-CHANGING RISK BASED ON DRIVER’S PERCEPTION OF ADJACENT REAR VEHICLES

        With advancements in sensors and communication technologies, hazardous lane-changing can be readily identified, by analyzing driving behavior and vehicle data. Most traditional approaches to assess hazardous lane-changing depend on surrogate safety measures, such as gap acceptance, minimum safe distance, and time-to-collision (TTC). Unlike these measures, which focus on statistical data or vehicle kinematics analysis, this study proposes a new method for assessing risk when a vehicle changes lane, based on the driver’s perception of adjacent rear vehicles. First, a driver model based on virtual spring theory is used to build a risk perception model. The proposed model realizes comprehensive assessment of risk by car-following parameter amendment when the adjacent vehicle cuts in. Second, model parameters are identified using the recursive maximum likelihood method. Third, the threshold-determining mechanism is established using a first-order grey prediction model, the threshold is adjusted online based on the driver’s braking data, and the information entropy is used to judge the rationality of threshold and search the optimal threshold. Finally, offline simulation of real vehicle test data is adopted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. Results show that the algorithm can adapt to individual differences, and performs better than TTC in evaluating hazardous lane-changing.

      • Segmentation for Noisy Image Based on Geodesic Distance and Graph cuts

        The paper introduces a Graph cuts method which is based on geodesic distance framework, which can achieve image denoising. A new method to compute the geodesic distance is introduced in this paper firstly, then new method combines geodesic with Graph cuts algorithm. What’s more, based on the denoising constraint, the method changes the computing method of graph’s edge weight of the image for image segmentation. This method can segment and denoise image which contains a lot of noise effectively.
