      • Configuration management of evolving design objects in design and manufacturing environments

        콘피규레이션 관리는 제품의 구성과 변화를 관리함으로써 제품의 무결성을 유지하기 위해 제안되었다. 본 논문은 설계 및 제조 환경에서 변화하는 설계 객체의 버전과 콘피규레이션을 관리하기 위한 객체 지향적인 방법을 제안한다. 버전은 타입의 한 변형을 나타내며 설계 객체의 선택적인 설계나 수정을 의미한다. 설계 객체의 변형을 표현하기 위해 진화적인 스키마 변형은 허용되고 자료의 재구성을 수반하는 스키마의 변화는 허용되지 않는다. 콘피규레이션은 IS-A와 IS-PART-OF의 계층구조를 고려한 콘피규레이션 규칙에 의해 통제된다. 제품의 다양한 설계와 이의 개선을 지원하기 위해 다양한 콘피규레이션이 제공된다. 콘피규레이션정보는 새로운 콘피규레이션 생성과 유지 보수를 위해 콘텍스트 계층구조에 의해 저장된다. 서로 다른 버전에 의해 생성된 제품을 나타내는 인스턴스 객체는 복잡하고 다양한 제품의 설계, 제조 및 서비스를 위해 저장되고 조작된다. 제품의 유지와 서비스를 위해 서로 다른 버전의 부품에 대한 유지관리 기능이 제공된다. The discipline of configuration management has been introduced to maintain the integrity of products by managing product composition and evolution. This paper presents an object-oriented approach to managing versions and configurations of evolving design objects in design and manufacturing environments. A version means a variation of a type definition, which corresponds to one of design alternatives and revisions for the design object.In order to represent variants of design objects evolutional schema modifications are allowed in version derivations but revolutional changes which cause data reorganization. Configurability is maintained by introducing configuration integrity rules in the IS-PART-OF composition and IS-A inheritance hierarchies. Flexible configurations can be supported to facilitate product evolution and to provide various design alternatives. Configuration information is kept in the hierarchy of contexts to help traceability and derivation of new configurations. Instance objects which represent the actual products created under different versions of types are stored and manipulated for supporting dynamic and complex product design, manufacturing, and service.Traceability of parts of different versions of a given product can be accomplished for product maintenance and services.

        Storing and Retrieval of Multiversion XML Documents in Relational Databases

        In this paper, we propose a method of managing versions of XML documents by using relational databases. Data structures based on relational tables are developed for accommodating versions of XML documents. The structure information, the contents, and changes of the versions are stored in relational tables. Thus, SQL can be exploited in queries such as horizontal queries, vertical queries, and delta queries without parsing the documents. The structure information and contents of all versions are not represented explicitly in the tables, those of certain versions which are called snapshot versions are represented. Other versions are represented indirectly as sequences of operations that are stored in the corresponding tables. The experiment shows the space performance.

        XML Type vs Inlined Shredding into Tables for Storing XML Documents in RDBMS

        As XML is increasingly used for representing and exchanging data, relational database systems have been trying extend their features to handle XML documents XML documents can be stored in a column with XML data type like primitive types. The shredding method, which is one of the traditional methods for storing and managing XML documents in RDBMS, is still useful and viable although it has some drawbacks due to the structural discrepancy between XML and relational databases. This method may be suitable for data-centric XML documents with simple schema. This paper presents the extended version of the Association inlining method that is based on inlined shredding and compares the performance of querying processing to that of XML type method of conventional relational database systems. The experiments showed that in most cases our method resulted in better performance than the other method based on XML data type. This is due to the fact that our shredding method keeps and uses the order and path information of XML documents. The path table has the information of the corresponding table and column for each distinct path and the structure information of the XML document is extracted and stored in data tables.

      • Managing Configurations of Evolving Composite Products

        제품의 진화는 해당 제품 클래스의 버전으로 표현된다. 복합제품의 버전관리에서 중요한 데이터베이스 문제는 버전의 표현과 저장이다. 버전을 표현하는데 있어 두가지 상충되는 요구조건이 있는데 지나친 버전의 생성은 피해야 하고 유효한 버전이 다양하게 제공되어야 한다. 모든 가능한 버전을 명시적으로 표현할 경우 버전수가 너무 많아지게 된다. 묵시적인 방법은 모든 유효한 버전을 표현하기 어려울 뿐만 아니라 제품의 진화로 인한 지식의 통합 또한 어려운 과제이다. 따라서 본 논문은 이러한 두가지 상충되는 요구를 충족할 수 있는 명시적 방법과 묵시적 방법을 절충한 버전과 콘피큐레이션 관리 방법을 제안한다. Product evolution is represented as versions of the corresponding product classes. One of the important database issues in versioning evolving composite products is the representation and storage of versions. There are two conflicting requirements in representing versions: version proliferation should be avoided and various valid configurations of composite products should be provided flexibly. If all the possible versions of composite products are represented explicitly, the number of versions to be managed becomes extremely large. Implicit methods have difficulties in representing all valid composition structures. Moreover, it is difficult to accommodate product evolution that requires integration of the existing knowledge with the new one. This paper presents a solution to managing configurations of evolving composite products that compromises both conflicting requirements.

        PIG3 Regulates p53 Stability by Suppressing Its MDM2-Mediated Ubiquitination

        Under normal, non-stressed conditions, intracellular p53 is continually ubiquitinated by MDM2 and targeted for degradation. However, in response to severe genotoxic stress, p53 protein levels are markedly increased and apoptotic cell death is triggered. Inhibiting the ubiquitination of p53 under conditions where DNA damage has occurred is therefore crucial for preventing the development of cancer, because if cells with severely damaged genomes are not removed from the population, uncontrolled growth can result. However, questions remain about the cellular mechanisms underlying the regulation of p53 stability. In this study, we show that p53-inducible gene 3 (PIG3), which is a transcriptional target of p53, regulates p53 stability. Overexpression of PIG3 stabilized both endogenous and transfected wild-type p53, whereas a knockdown of PIG3 lead to a reduction in both endogenous and UV-induced p53 levels in p53-proficient human cancer cells. Using both in vivo and in vitro ubiquitination assays, we found that PIG3 suppressed both ubiquitination- and MDM2-dependent proteasomal degradation of p53. Notably, we demonstrate that PIG3 interacts directly with MDM2 and promoted MDM2 ubiquitination. Moreover, elimination of endogenous PIG3 in p53-proficient HCT116 cells decreased p53 phosphorylation in response to UV irradiation. These results suggest an important role for PIG3 in regulating intracellular p53 levels through the inhibition of p53 ubiquitination.

      • Schema Evolution in Object-Oriented Databases

        본 논문에서는 객체지향 데이터 베이스의 스키마 전화에서 고려해야 할 사항들을 살펴보고 간단한 해결방안을 제시한다. 스키마 변형 분류를 재검토하고 스키마 진화와 관련된 사항들과 지켜져야할 제약 조건들, 스키마 일관성, 버전 일관성, 객체 일관성과 공용성 등을 살펴본다. 전체 스키마를 c-schema로 불리우는 서로 연결된 부분들로 분할하여 버전의 단위로 한다. 이렇게 하므로써 보통의 스키마 버전 기법에 비해 적당한 변화의 단위를 얻을 수 있다. c-schema의 버전 사이의 관계를 쉽게 결정할 수 있는 버전 구조를 사용하도록 한다. In this paper, we review the issues concerning schema evolution in object-oriented databases and present a simple solution for it. We refine schema modification taxonomy and summarize issues and constraints to be satisfied in schema evolution: schema consistency. version consistency, object consistency, and sharability. We partition the entire schema into connected components and we call these c-schema. These c-schema are the units of versioning. Thus we can get moderate granularity of changes compared with the conventional scheme of versioning of schema. We use peculiar version numbering scheme. The relationships between versions of c-schema can be easily determined by the numbering scheme.

      • Emulsion-based Synthesis of Semi-permeable Protocells Composed of Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-albumin Hybrid Amphiphiles

        By allowing transport of certain molecules, semi-permeable polymer membranes have been important to diverse applications. Because of the size-selective permeability, they can be useful for development of biosensors in clinical diagnosis; body fluids, contains not only small analytes but also many other large molecules, of which potential fouling impairs the sensing performance. If the membranes are not permeable to the large molecules, encapsulated molecular probes would maintain the capability. In this work, we propose the use of protein-polymer conjugates to build semi-permeable proteinosomes that can obstruct passage of plasma proteins. For the protein-polymer conjugates, we chose an albumin, the major protein in blood. In constructing the proteinosomes, we invented a self-assembly method using the amphiphilic structure of the conjugates comprised of hydrophobic PNIPAm and hydrophilic albumin protein. Based on oil-in-water emulsion, we successfully synthesized the proteinosomes. encapsulating aptasensors into the semi-permeable proteinosomes, we demon-strate that the resulting protocells can serve as high-performance biosensors, even in undiluted blood and serum.
