        Simultaneous desulfurization and denitrogenation of model fuels by polyethylene glycol-modified resorcinol/formaldehyde resin-derived carbon spheres

        A series of resorcinol/formaldehyde (RF) resin-derived carbon spheres modified by polyethylene glycol (PEG) were prepared. The effects of PEG addition time during hydrothermal treatment and molecular weight on the pore structure, surface acidic groups, particle size, and adsorption performances of the obtained spherical activated carbons were investigated. Two types of model fuel containing indole, quinoline, and dibenzothiophene (DBT) as target adsorbates were prepared to evaluate the adsorption performances of the spheres, which increased in the order of DBT<quinoline<indole. Hydrogen bonding may be critical in the removal of indole. Both the surface area and oxygen- containing functional groups influenced the adsorption capacity, with the latter significantly influenced by PEG addition time. PEG addition during the RF resin cross-linking stage sharply reduced the total concentration of acidic groups on the carbon sphere surfaces. The adsorption thermodynamics and kinetics of nitrogen and sulfur compounds were also investigated. The adsorption isotherms of all S/N species were of the Freundlich type at 25 oC. The pseudo-second-order rate equation well described the adsorption kinetics. Both external diffusion and intra-particle diffusion controlled the rate of adsorption.

        Experimental study on the cavitation flow and motion characteristics of the vehicle launched underwater

        In this paper, an experimental system was independently designed to investigate the cavitation flow mechanism and motion characteristic of the vehicle launched underwater. Conducted experiments based on high-speed photography, and the influence of cavity morphological evolution and kinematic characteristics with the different launch and transverse velocities were analyzed. The results show that cavity shedding phenomenon occurs on different scales. Subsequently, a wide range of pressure impulse on the surface of the vehicle is caused by the collapse of large-scale cavity groups, resulting in an obvious sputtering phenomenon on its surface during the water-exit stage. The more the launch speed increases, the longer the initial cavity length is. Moreover, the moment of completely shedding the cavity delays during the water exit process; Furthermore, with the increase of transverse speed, the attitude angle generally shows an increasing trend, but its growth rate slowed down during the large-scale shedding stage of the cavity.

        Prediction of black tea fermentation quality indices using NIRS and nonlinear tools

        Catechin content, the ratio of tea polyphenols and free amino acids (TP/FAA), as well as the ratio of theaflavins and thearubigins (TFs/TRs) are important biochemical indicators to evaluate fermentation quality. To achieve rapid determination of such biochemical indicators, synergy interval partial least square and extreme learning machine combined with an adaptive boosting algorithm, Si-ELM-AdaBoost algorithm, were used to establish quantitative analysis models between near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and catechin content and between TFs/TRs and TP/FAA, respectively. The results showed that prediction performance of the Si-ELM-AdaBoost mixed algorithm is superior than that of other models. The prediction results with root-mean-square error of prediction ranged from 0.006 to 0.563, the ratio performance deviation values exceeded 2.5, and predictive correlation coefficient values exceeded 0.9 in the prediction model of each biochemical indicator. NIRS combined with Si-ELMAdaBoost mixed algorithm could be utilized for online monitoring of black tea fermentation. Meanwhile, the AdaBoost algorithm effectively improved the accuracy of the ELM model and could better approach the nonlinear continuous function.

        A Novel Hyperspectral Microscopic Imaging System for Evaluating Fresh Degree of Pork

        This study proposed a rapid microscopic examination method for pork freshness evaluation by using the self-assembled hyperspectral microscopic imaging (HMI) system with the help of feature extraction algorithm and pattern recognition methods. Pork samples were stored for different days ranging from 0 to 5 days and the freshness of samples was divided into three levels which were determined by total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) content. Meanwhile, hyperspectral microscopic images of samples were acquired by HMI system and processed by the following steps for the further analysis. Firstly, characteristic hyperspectral microscopic images were extracted by using principal component analysis (PCA) and then texture features were selected based on the gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM). Next, features data were reduced dimensionality by fisher discriminant analysis (FDA) for further building classification model. Finally, compared with linear discriminant analysis (LDA) model and support vector machine (SVM) model, good back propagation artificial neural network (BP-ANN) model obtained the best freshness classification with a 100 % accuracy rating based on the extracted data. The results confirm that the fabricated HMI system combined with multivariate algorithms has ability to evaluate the fresh degree of pork accurately in the microscopic level, which plays an important role in animal food quality control.

        Two kinds of behavior of fruit peel coagulant in treating low carbon source wastewaters

        Based on present serious phenomenon of insufficient carbon source in municipal sewage in China, the two kinds of effect of hybrid-fruit-peel (HFP) coagulant (coagulation and external carbon source (ECS)) on treating low carbon source wastewater was studied, mainly compared with that of sodium acetate (NaAc). The feasibility of HFP as an ECS was researched, and then its coagulation behavior, sludge properties, nitrogen removal were studied mainly with aeration mode and sequencing batch reactor (SBR), respectively. The results showed the ration of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5) to chemical oxygen demand (COD) released from HFP was 0.67−0.76, within the scope of easily biodegradable. Within a short aeration time, HFP posed obvious coagulation behavior. HFP sludge gave larger extracellular polymer (EPS) and lower dehydrogenase activity (DHA) than NaAc. For HFP, much larger size sludge flocs appeared, the connection among the flocs became closer, and the biofacies and number of microorganisms (Opercularia Coaractata, Nematode, Vorticella, etc.) increased significantly. HFP can be used as an excellent ECS for low carbon source wastewater, and probably also have the ability of slow-releasing carbon, and can be applied to municipal sewage or other wastewaters with insufficient carbon source.

        Dose-Dense Rituximab-CHOP versus Standard Rituximab-CHOP in Newly Diagnosed Chinese Patients with Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma: A Randomized, Multicenter, Open-Label Phase 3 Trial

        Purpose Rituximab with cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone administered every 3 weeks (R-CHOP-21) is the standard care for diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). It is unknown whether the dose-dense R-CHOP (R-CHOP-14) could improve the outcome of the disease in Asian population. Materials and Methods Newly diagnosed DLBCL patients were centrally, randomly assigned (1:1) to receive R-CHOP- 14 or R-CHOP-21. R-CHOP-14 was administered every 2 weeks, and R-CHOP-21 was administered every 3 weeks. Primary end point was disease-free survival (DFS). Secondary end points included overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), response rate and toxicities. Results Seven hundred and two patients were randomly assigned to receive R-CHOP-14 (n=349) or R-CHOP-21 (n=353). With a median follow-up of 45.6 months, the two groups did not differ significantly in 3-year DFS (79.6% for R-CHOP-14 vs. 83.2% for R-CHOP-21, p=0.311), 3-year OS (77.5% for R-CHOP-14 vs. 77.6% for R-CHOP-21, p=0.903), or 3-year PFS (63.2% for R-CHOP-14 vs. 66.1% for R-CHOP-21, p=0.447). Patients with an International Prognostic Index (IPI) score ! 2 had a poorer prognosis compared to those with an IPI score < 2. Grade 3/4 hematologic and non-hematologic toxicities were manageable and similar between R-CHOP-14 and R-CHOP-21. Conclusion R-CHOP-14 did not improve the outcome of DLBCL compared to R-CHOP-21 in Asian population. With manageable and similar toxicities, both of the two regimens were suitable for Asian DLBCL patients. For high-risk patients with IPI ! 2, new combination regimens based on R-CHOP deserve further investigation to improve efficacy.
