        Sensitivity of Seismic Response and Fragility to Parameter Uncertainty of Single-Layer Reticulated Domes

        Quantitatively modeling and propagating all sources of uncertainty stand at the core of seismic fragility assessment of structures. This paper investigates the eff ects of various sources of uncertainty on seismic responses and seismic fragility estimates of single-layer reticulated domes. Sensitivity analyses are performed to examine the sensitivity of typical seismic responses to uncertainties in structural modeling parameters, and the results suggest that the variability in structural damping, yielding strength, steel ultimate strain, dead load and snow load has signifi cant eff ects on the seismic responses, and these fi ve parameters should be taken as random variables in the seismic fragility assessment. Based on this, fragility estimates and fragility curves incorporating diff erent levels of uncertainty are obtained on the basis of the results of incremental dynamic analyses on the corresponding set of 40 sample models generated by Latin Hypercube Sampling method. The comparisons of these fragility curves illustrate that, the inclusion of only ground motion uncertainty is inappropriate and inadequate, and the appropriate way is incorporating the variability in the fi ve identifi ed structural modeling parameters as well into the seismic fragility assessment of single-layer reticulated domes.

        Mixed Culture of Probiotics on a Solid-state Medium: An Efficient Method to Produce an Affordable Probiotic Feed Additive

        The overuse and abuse of antibiotics in animal husbandry is an ongoing problem. While probiotics could be an alternative, their effectiveness, stability and production cost are key factors that need to be addressed first. This study used a mixed culture of Bifidobacterium bifidum, Clostridium butyricum, Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus licheniformis on a simple and inexpensive solid-state medium generated by pouring a liquid MRS medium, which was designed to favor the dense growth of lactobacilli, onto wheat bran at a ratio of 1:2 by weight. Using this method, we achieved a very high number of live bacteria (NLB), at 3.93 × 1014 CFU/g, without the need for expensive anaerobic equipment. The mixed culture thus achieved striking results that were up to 10,000 times better than the pure culture and did not require special anaerobic equipment. A real-time PCR analysis demonstrated that the shares of the four strains in the mixed culture probiotics (MCPs) were 2, 17, 46, and 35%, respectively, which indicates that the fermentation product contained an uneven distribution of the four probiotic target bacteria. The MCPs possessed good storage stability at room temperature, and the NLB was greater than 106 CFU/g after 30 days at 25°C, which made it easier to transport and store. They also demonstrated good stability in artificial digestion fluids, with an NLB of over 1012 CFU/g after sequential treatments, which enabled them to maintain effectiveness in the animal gastrointestinal tract. Finally, the MCPs were fed to the mealworms (Tenebrio molitor) and raccoon dogs (Nyctereutes procyonoides) in order to test their effectiveness, and the growth rates of both significantly improved with the MCPs feeding. This study thus demonstrated that culturing MCPs on a solid-state medium is an efficient method to affordably produce probiotic feed additives that can improve the performance of very physiologically different animals, such as the mealworm and raccoon dog, which indicates their potential for very wide applicability.

        In the background of new economic era, the whole human society has undergone profound changes, the status and role of culture in the comprehensive national competition have become even more prominent, the development of culture industry becomes the inevitable requirement to promote the sustainable development of modern economy and society. At present, many countries consider cultural industry as their core industry, consider cultural trade as a national strategy. Among them, Korea attaches great importance to the development of culture industry since the Asian financial crisis, sees it as a pillar industry. The management and development pattern of Korean culture industry is initiated by the Government, and developed by the private entrepreneurs. Practice has proved that this pattern is a huge success, has created a significant economic value for Korea, and won an international reputation. Therefore, the in-depth analysis of the development of Korean culture industry mechanisms and use that for innovation and development of Chinese culture industry is of great practical significance. With the accelerating process of economic globalization, human economic life has launched a comprehensive global communication and exchanges, extending from economic field into the field of culture. Culture has evolved into a new kind of "soft power". It is because of the special influence of culture, countries all over the world took culture as an economic form at the end of 20th century, turning it into culture industry to enhance their international competitiveness. Under the new international situation, China also strengthened the cooperation and exchanges with other countries, speeding up the development of China’s culture industry.

        의미론적 관점에서 본 한·중 외심적 합성명사의 생성 기제

        합성어는 형태론측면에서 연구의 중점이었다. 지금까지 한·중 합성어에 대한 선행연구가 많지만 주로 한국어의 한자어를 중심으로 중국어의 합성어의 대한 연구가 많다. 한국어 고유어의 합성어와 중국어 합성어 대한 연구가 많지 않은 편이다. 그리고 합성어에 대한 대조연구는 주로 형태구조를 중심으로 진행하는데 의미를 중심으로 연구한 논문이 많이 발견하지 못했다. 본 연구는 합성어의 차원에서 한국어 고유어로 구성된 합성명사와 이에 대응한 중국어 합성명사를 연구 대상으로 삼아 내심·외심적 이론 지식을 합성어의 분석에 도입하여 연구가 벌어진 것이다. 우선, 본 연구는 합성명사의 구성요소로 의미를 유출할 수 없는 유형을 의미적 외심합성어로 간주한다. 합성명사의 의미구조를 분석하기 위해서는 의미변화가 어떻게 이루어졌는지 논의했다. 그리고, 의미적 외심합성명사의 의미변화 유형은 본고의 주된 기준은 Stern(1931)의 경험적 분류와 Ullmann(1962)의 기능적 분류이다. 각각 논리적, 수사법적, 사회·심리적 각도에서 의미가 변화하는 방식을 구체적인 예를 통해서 분석했다. 마지막으로 이상의 분석을 종합하여 본문의 결론을 도출했다. 합성명사를 통해 한·중 두 언어의 공통점과 차이점을 논의하고 합성명사에 담겨있는 문화적 의미도 조금 언급했다. 본 논문은 한·중 합성어의 의미연구와 어휘와 문화의 관계를 연구하는데 도움이 될 수 있었으면 한다. Compound words occupied an important position in the word creation. So far, There are so much of the former study, however, the study are very little between the connatural Korean and Chinese compound words. Furthermore, the contrastive study mostly focused on the structure of the morphological structure, not on semantical structure. This thesis focused the noun compound words by the endocentric construction and exocentric construction theory. In the study, we aimed at the meaning of compound words between Korean and Chinese. Furthemore, we study the cause of the meaning Semantic change. Based on the Stern(1931) and Ullmann(1962), we classified the compound words between Korean and Chinese and analysed the difference by the examples. In the end, we draw a conclusion and make a contrastive study between the words and the culture and will study the words of the culture feature in Korean and Chinese.

        An Estimate of the Time-varying Temperature Field of the Main Reflector and Subreflector of the Shanghai 65 m Radio Telescope under Solar Illumination

        The time-dependent temperature fields of the reflectors of the Shanghai 65 m radio telescope are investigated numerically, taking account of the non-uniform heating of the reflector surfaces due to solar illumination and the constantly changing ambient air temperature. This paper utilizes a ray casting algorithm to calculate the borderline separating the reflector areas in shadow and in sunshine, aiming to provide an accurate calculation of the solar energy absorbed. Then a ray tracing algorithm is utilized to calculate the total solar energy that is reflected by the main reflector area and received by the subreflector surface area. Finally, the solar energy is used as the main thermal load on the reflector surface to numerically examine the temperature distribution on both the main reflector and the subreflector. The results illustrate that the time-varying temperature fields of the reflectors of a radio telescope due to asymmetric solar illumination can be accurately simulated utilizing the ray casting algorithm and the ray tracing algorithm. The occurring periods and avoidance zones of the overheating of the subreflector are identified, among which the maximum temperature of the subreflector reaches 144.9oC. These dangerous observation zones should be avoided during the operation of the radio telescope.

      • Seismic Performance of Strain-Hardening Cement Composite (SHCC) Squat Shear Walls with vertical slits

        <P>This study investigates experimentally the applicability of selectively weakening retrofit for existing and non-ductile squat shear walls. To evaluate the effect of vertical seams on the wall panel on the hysteretic behavior and failure mode of Strain-Hardening Cement Composite (SHCC) squat shear walls, two 1/3 scale shear walls with vertical seams as a variable were made and tested under reversed cyclic loadings. All specimens had same rectangular cross-section 1,100mm¡¿50mm, with panel height 600mm. The vertical seam is 40mm wide and 260mm high and 460 high. SHCC for wall specimens was supplied by a local ready mix company with specified strength of 50MPa. The test results of this study; length of the slit is increased in squat shear wall, which the specimen became load-carrying capacity and stiffness. But have vertical silt, the squat shear wall shows aspects of ductility destruction.</P>

      • Mechanical Properties of Sprayable Fiber Reinforced Strain-Hardening Cement Composite (SHCC)

        <P>The use of strain-hardening cement composite (SHCC), which exhibits metal-like deformation behavior and has ability to restrict crack opening, as a retrofit material for seismic retrofitting of existing infrastructures, has been the subject of high expectations. In this work, Three SHCC mixtures including different chemical or mineral admixtures were prepared and evaluated based on the mechanical properties, such as flow, sprayability, compressive and uniaxial tensile performances. All SHCC mixtures were reinforced with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers at volume fraction of 2.2%. Mechanical properties of each SHCC mixture were measured and evaluated after mixing, pumping, and shotcreting. Experimental results indicated that the compressive strength and elastic modulus of three SHCC mixtures increased almost linearly according to shotcreting procedure from mixer to nozzle. And the uniaxial tensile of SHCC mixture (SHCC-AE) with AE agent was superior to the other SHCC mixtures (SHCC-MC and-N).</P>

        A prediction model of the sum of container based on combined BP neural network and SVM

        The prediction of the sum of container is very important in the field of container transport. Many influencingfactors can affect the prediction results. These factors are usually composed of many variables, whosecomposition is often very complex. In this paper, we use gray relational analysis to set up a proper forecastindex system for the prediction of the sum of containers in foreign trade. To address the issue of the lowaccuracy of the traditional prediction models and the problem of the difficulty of fully considering all the factorsand other issues, this paper puts forward a prediction model which is combined with a back-propagation (BP)neural networks and the support vector machine (SVM). First, it gives the prediction with the data normalizedby the BP neural network and generates a preliminary forecast data. Second, it employs SVM for the residualcorrection calculation for the results based on the preliminary data. The results of practical examples show thatthe overall relative error of the combined prediction model is no more than 1.5%, which is less than the relativeerror of the single prediction models. It is hoped that the research can provide a useful reference for theprediction of the sum of container and related studies.

        한,중 문화어휘에 관한 일고찰

        Lexicon, an integral component of the cultural medium of language, plays a crucial role in cultural exchange and understanding. That accounts for the necessity to examine words with cultural connotations in both Chinese and Korean. This research starts with a categorization of cultural words, based on previous linguistic discoveries: words which denote directly , that is, symbolize or represent, cultural phenomena and the words which take on cultural significance within certain context. The first group are termed as direct cultural words and the second, indirect cultural words with cultural background. The third chapter further divides direct and indirect cultural words into subcategories, focusing upon mainly the features of direct words, while Chapter Four probes into the historical, traditional, institutional and cognitive differences between the two countries in an attempt to describe the features of indirect words. These comparisons and analysis further strengthen the idea that studies upon cultural words may contribute to proper understanding of similarities and differences between Chinese and Korean cultures.

        기존 시설물의 내진보강용 뿜칠형 SHCC의 역학적 특성

        Sprayable fiber reinforced strain-hardening cement composites(SHCCs) were developed for seismic retrofitting of existing infrastructures, especially, for packing the joint between existing R/C building and seismic retrofit elements. In this paper, influence of mixture proportions on the mechanical properties, such as compressive, flexural and direct tensile performances, of sprayable SHCCs is investigated. Sprayable SHCCs developed in this study were reinforced with synthetic PVA fibers at the volume fraction of 2.2%. Mechanical properties of SHCCs were evaluated on the specimens manufactured after mixing, pumping, and shotcreting. The test results indicate that the compressive strength and elastic modulus of three SHCC mixtures increased almost linearly according to shotcreting procedure from mixer to nozzle. And the direct tensile and flexural behavior of SHCC mixture(SHCC-C) with AE agent was superior to the those of the other SHCC mixtures(SHCC-A and-B). It also has very high pumpability and sprayability characteristics.
