        The perception of accessibility and ease of orientation of underground pedestrian systems: a survey in Shanghai

        Dominant modes of transport in city centres have a significant influence on urban morphology, land usage, the character of the urban environment and people’s life style. Improving accessibility, continuity, safety, availability and connectivity for pedestrians has critical importance as a means of decreasing vehicle usage and increasing public transport usage. Within the city centres of the mega cities,underground pedestrian systems (UPS) have been used to integrate pedestrian traffic in transport systems as a redevelopment strategy to provide additional space resources for multiple functions, such as commercial and public activities. With the recent economic success in China, the research relating to the impact on urban environments remains lacking, and this challenges the successful development of UPS in the future. Three UPS in Shanghai were subjected to a detailed investigation to understand the impact of the UPS, especially from the perspective of the users’ perception. Data were obtained from on-the-spot observations, face to face questionnaires with the UPS users, and interviews with an academic, a coordinator of a UPS project and two UPS managers. The research integrated both qualitative and quantitative methods, which analyzed the issues relating to accessibility and ease of orientation with the UPS. The research revealed that as an important component of central urban area pedestrian systems, the UPS have limited functionality to its users and are not fully utilized by the general public. The research focused on Shanghai’s expanding constellation of UPS, which has previously lacked discussion in the literature.

        The Earliest Statements of Christian Faith in China? A Critique of the Conventional Chronology of The Messiah Sutra and On One God

        This paper is the first systematic critique of the conventional chronology of the so-called earliest statements of Christian faith in China, The Messiah Sutra 序聽迷詩所經 and On One God 一神論, which are believed to have been translated into Chinese by the first Christian missionary to the country Aluoben 阿羅本 around the 640s. To achieve this, it has surveyed the early publications and re-read the alleged textual and historical clues. The paper reveals that the common arguments accepted since the 1920s are plagued with defects and that therefore the conventional chronology does not withstand scrutiny. The significance of this paper lies in proposing to reconsider not only the traditional dates of these two documents but the conclusions derived therefrom. Based on some clues, this paper also speculates that The Messiah Sutra and On One God might be two of the latest ancient Chinese Christian sources.

      • Development and Challenges for Power Battery in Electric Ship

        With the continuous prosperity and development of the marine industry, the number of ships is increasing while greenhouse gas emissions are rising. In order to meet the relevant international ship emission regulations, the solution of developing electric ships is proposed. As the core device of the electric ship propulsion system, the maturity and applicability of power battery technology play a key role in the development of the electric ship. This article introduces the principles and advantages of the fuel cell, lithium-ion battery as well as supercapacitor battery, respectively, and analyzes the application status and challenges of power batteries in existing electric ships. The development direction and problems to be solved of power battery in current and future ship applications are put forward, which can provide a reference for further research.

        Travel behaviour and mobility needs of older adults in an ageing and car-dependent society

        An ageing population poses long-term challenges for a nation’s health, labour force market, housing and transport, affecting economic growth, living standards and government finances. With increasingly rapid ageing in both developed and developing countries, how to develop future transport frameworks, taking into account the increasingly large ageing population and their travel needs, has been emerging as a major challenge in urban policy development. This review explores how demographic changes in an ageing society and the associated travel patterns of a changing older cohort may impact on future transport demand by providing evidence on the travel behaviour of older adults, its associated influencing factors and the possible alternatives to car transport for older adults. It concludes by discussing major policy areas for addressing the elderly’s mobility needs via the provision of future transport infrastructure and services, implementing legislative and institutional approaches, and building accessible mobility environments. The paper also identifies key directions for further research.

        Personalized Product Recommendation Method for Analyzing User Behavior Using DeepFM

        In a personalized product recommendation system, when the amount of log data is large or sparse, the accuracy of model recommendation will be greatly affected. To solve this problem, a personalized product recommendation method using deep factorization machine (DeepFM) to analyze user behavior is proposed. Firstly, the K-means clustering algorithm is used to cluster the original log data from the perspective of similarity to reduce the data dimension. Then, through the DeepFM parameter sharing strategy, the relationship between low- and high-order feature combinations is learned from log data, and the click rate prediction model is constructed. Finally, based on the predicted click-through rate, products are recommended to users in sequence and fed back. The area under the curve (AUC) and Logloss of the proposed method are 0.8834 and 0.0253, respectively, on the Criteo dataset, and 0.7836 and 0.0348 on the KDD2012 Cup dataset, respectively. Compared with other newer recommendation methods, the proposed method can achieve better recommendation effect.

        Elastic Foundation Beam Solution of Tensile Flexible Retaining Wall

        The application of fl exible retaining walls in foundation pit engineering is gradually increasing. At present, many practical engineering problems need to be solved. This article takes a corrugated steel retaining wall with tensile reinforcement, for example, assuming that it is an elastic foundation beam model. A typical vertical thin layer unit is taken on the retaining wall for analysis. It uses the waveform integration method to calculate the moment of inertia, deriving the diff erential equation of fl exural deformation of corrugated steel retaining wall and establishing the theoretical formula for deformation of corrugated steel retaining wall under fi lling pressure behind the wall. Finally, a FLAC3D model was established to simulate the deformation of corrugated steel retaining walls in practical engineering, and the fi nal numerical simulation results were consistent with the theoretical formula. Thus, providing a theoretical basis for the deformation of such fl exible retaining structures.

      • Industrial Flame Edge Detection Algorithm Based on Gray Dominant Filter

        Industrial furnace flame detection is directly related to the safety and economic operation of boiler. The flame edge detection is one of the most key parts of the flame detection. At present, there are many edge detection algorithms for normal object but few for industrial flame edge detection which cannot provide fully support for furnace flame combustion stability, flame 3D reconstruction and flame temperature field reconstruction. One new industrial flame image edge detection algorithm based on industrial flame image characteristics is proposed in this paper. This algorithm can effectively remove noise level in flame image and well maintain flame image edge features, compute the gradients from multiple-directions for entirely detecting flame edge information. Moreover, this algorithm is verified by experiment in this paper to present high performance in resisting noise, and clearly see continuous flame edge curve, which reveals better effect in industrial flame edge detection than other edge detection algorithms.

        The Incidence, Changes and Treatments of Cervical Deformity After Infection and Inflammation

        A healthy cervical spine with normal movement is the basis of many daily activities and is essential for maintaining a good quality of life. However, the alignment, fusion, and structure of the cervical spine can change for various reasons, leading to cervical deformity, mainly kyphosis. Approximately 5%‒20% of spinal infections in the cervical spine cause cervical deformity. The deformity can recover early; however, the disease's long-term existence or the continuous action of abnormal stress may lead to intervertebral fusion and abnormal osteophytes. Many gaps and controversies exist regarding infectious cervical deformities, including a lack of clear definitions and an acceptable classification system thereby requiring further research. Moreover, there is no consensus on the indications for postinfectious cervical deformity associated with Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Brucellosis. Therefore, we reviewed and discussed the incidence, clinical manifestations, changes, and treatment of infectious and inflammatory secondary cervical deformities from common to rare to provide a theoretical basis for clinical decision-making.

        Mesoscopic investigation of frost crystal nucleation on cold surface based on the lattice-Boltzmann method

        A lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) two-dimensional (2D) mesoscopic model is presented for studying the frost crystal nucleation process involved in liquid-solid phase change on a cold surface. In order to make the simulation more realistic, the actual frost crystal nucleus deformation process is considered in this model. The simulation results agree well with our experimental results. Detailed analysis was made on the dynamic behavior of liquid-solid phase change and heat transfer happening in the frost crystal nucleation process. Results are presented for the evolution law of frost crystal nucleus deformation, dynamic solid-liquid phase change process as well as the dynamic distribution of frost nucleus interior temperature during frost crystal nucleation. In addition, the occurrence of frost crystal nucleus deformation is explained by the theory of crystal growth. Finally, where and why the initial position of frost crystal growth happens is also revealed. Furthermore, the reason why the hydrophobic surface can delay the droplet freezing and why the frost growth is faster on the hydrophobic surface after the droplet is frozen is analyzed based on this model.

        Resilient Consensus Control for Linear Multi-agent System Against the False Data Injection Attacks

        This paper is concerned with the resilient consensus control problem of the linear multi-agent system under the false data injection attacks, where each agent may receive the injected false data by attackers from its neighbours through communication links. Due to the existence of the false data, the desired consensus of multi-agent can not be reached by the general distributed consensus algorithms. By constructing an extended state observer to estimate the state and the injected false data towards each agent, a distributed resilient consensus control algorithm is designed to offset the negative effect of the attacks. Firstly, a sufficient condition is derived for the undirected multiagent system under a bounded and decaying false data injection. Secondly, a sufficient and necessary condition is provided for the directed multi-agent system under the false data injection with decaying rate. Finally, the simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed consensus algorithms against the false data attacks.
