        Relationship between Fractional Exhaled Nitric Oxide Level and Efficacy of Inhaled Corticosteroid in Asthma-COPD Overlap Syndrome Patients with Different Disease Severity

        This study explored the relationship between the fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) level and the efficacy of inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) in asthma-chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) overlap syndrome (ACOS) patients with different disease severity. A total of 127 ACOS patients with ACOS (case group) and 131 healthy people (control group) were enrolled in this study. Based on the severity of COPD, the ACOS patients were divided into: mild ACOS; moderate ACOS; severe ACOS; and extremely severe ACOS groups. We compared FeNO levels, pulmonary function parameters including percentage of forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) to predicted value (FEV1%pred), ratio of FEV1 to forced vital capacity (FEV1/FVC), inspiratory capacity to total lung capacity (IC/TLC) and residual volume to total lung capacity (RV/TLC), arterial blood gas parameters, including PH, arterial partial pressure of oxygen (PaO2) and arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PaCO2), total serum immunoglobulin E (IgE), induced sputum eosinophil (EOS), plasma surfactant protein A (SP-A), plasma soluble receptor for advanced glycation end products (sRAGE), sputum myeloperoxidase (MPO), sputum neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) and Asthma Control Test (ACT) scores, and COPD Assessment Test (CAT) scores. Compared with pre-treatment parameters, the FeNO levels, RV/TLC, PaCO2, total serum IgE, induced sputum EOS, plasma SP-A, sputum MPO, sputum NGAL, and CAT scores were significantly decreased after 6 months of ICS treatment, while FEV1%pred, FEV1/FVC, IC/TLC, PH, PaO2, plasma sRAGE, and ACT scores were significantly increased in ACOS patients with different disease severity after 6 months of ICS treatment. This finding suggests that the FeNO level may accurately predict the efficacy of ICS in the treatment of ACOS patients.

        Improved BP-NN Controller of PMSM for Speed Regulation

        We have studied the speed regulation of the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) servo system in this paper. To optimize the PMSM servo system's speed-control performance with disturbances, a non-linear speed-control technique using a back-propagation neural network (BP-NN) algorithm forthe controller design of the PMSM speed loop is introduced. To solve the slow convergence speed and easy to fall into the local minimum problem of BP-NN, we develope an improved BP-NN control algorithm by limiting the range of neural network outputs of the proportional coefficient Kp, integral coefficient Ki of the controller, and add adaptive gain factor β, that is the internal gain correction ratio. Compared with the conventional PI control method, our improved BP-NN control algorithm makes the settling time faster without static error, overshoot or oscillation. Simulation comparisons have been made for our improved BP-NN control method and the conventional PI control method to verify the proposed method's effectiveness.

        Review on the Synthesis and Antioxidation of Cu Nanowires for Transparent Conductive Electrodes

        Transparent conducting films based on solution-synthesized copper nanowires (Cu NWs) are considered to be an attractive alternative to indium tin oxide (ITO) due to the relative abundance of Cu and the low cost of solution-phase NW coating processes. Moreover, transparent electrodes tend to be flexible. This makes Cu NWs more attractive because ITO is brittle and can not meet the requirements of flexibility. For Cu NWs, aspect ratio is an important property. Cu NWs can be directly prepared by chemical reduction with various reducing agents and suitable capping agents. In general, the selectivity of the capping agent is very important for the formation of one-dimensional nanostructures because it plays a major role in the thermodynamic regulations and growth kinetics that influence the geometry and morphology of the crystal facets. Therefore, different aspect ratios are formed. Conductivity is the most important property for transparent electrodes. Organic pickling, annealing and glare pulses have a certain improvement in conductivity. Meanwhile, it is also essential to increase the oxidation resistance of the transparent electrode. The reduction of graphene oxide (r-GO), the coating of metal and polymer improve the oxidation resistance of the transparent electrode to varying degrees. This paper reviews the effect of different capping agents on the aspect ratio of NWs, and the effects of different post-treatments on oxidation resistance and conductivity of transparent electrodes.

        A hybrid strategy for comprehensive annotation of the protein coding genes in prokaryotic genome

        Protein coding gene annotation errors in prokaryotic genomes are accumulating continually in bioinformatics databases, while the update rate of genome annotation can not keep up with the explosive increasing genome sequences in most cases. Hence it is critical to manually rectify the genome annotation errors. In this paper, a hybrid strategy by combing the gene ab initio predicting programs and the over annotated gene re-annotation programs is proposed for re-annotation of the protein coding genes in prokaryotic genomes. Based on this strategy, the protein coding genes in Geobacter sulfurreducens PCA is comprehensively re-annotated. As a consequence, 16 hypothetical genes are annotated as non-coding sequences and 104 missing genes are retrieved as protein coding genes. Subsequent function analysis and sequences analysis show that the predicting results are much reliable and robust. Further application to other genomes show that this work can provide alternative tools for later post-process of prokaryotic genome annotations.

        Topology Optimization Method of Lattice Structures Based on a Genetic Algorithm

        A two-stage topology optimization method of lattice structures based on a genetic algorithm is proposed. The first stage is the form-finding analysis of lattice structures, and the optimal initial shape was achieved with the numerical inverse hanging method. The second stage is the topology optimization of single-layer lattice structures, which can be realized by changing the mesh size and the tube configurations to minimize the total weight of steel tubes subject to the design requirements. The mesh configuration optimization is realized through the adjustment of the nodal horizontal co-ordinates and the removal of tubes with lower stress. The maximum displacement of the structure, the maximum stress of the circular steel tubes, and the nonlinear buckling load are the state variables, and a genetic algorithm (GA) is the optimization algorithm. Different stress-limiting values used to delete the tubes were discussed. The numerical examples show that the two-stage topology optimization method for lattice structures proposed in this paper is correct and efficient. Furthermore, the forms of the optimized structure are rich, and the structure is lightweight and efficient.

        A detailed numerical study on the evolution of droplet size distribution of dibutyl phthalate in a laminar flow diffusion chamber

        A numerical model was used to study the homogeneous nucleation process of dibutyl phthalate (DBP) vapor in a laminar flow diffusion chamber (LFDC); the spatial and temporal evolution of DBP droplet size distribution was governed by the population balance equation (PBE). In the PBE, the nucleation rate was calculated by the selfconsistent correction nucleation theory (SCCNT), droplet coagulation, vapor and droplet deposition losses were considered. The simulation results showed that the nucleation rate predicted by the SCCNT improved the underestimation of that predicted by the classical nucleation theory. Due to vapor deposition before nucleation and droplet deposition after nucleation on the wall, the DBP mass loss was severe, accounting for about 86.3% of the total inlet vapor mass, and the droplet size distribution shifted towards larger diameters. The simulation results agreed well with the experimental data in terms of the droplet size distribution and average number concentration at the outlet of the LFDC because of the detailed droplet dynamic, transport and deposition mechanisms treated in this model. Based on this model, the number of molecules in the critical cluster was calculated using the first nucleation theorem and found to be larger about 50% than that calculated using the Gibbs-Thompson equation.

        Improvement of liquid fuel atomization for an internal engine using an auxiliary device

        Controlled atomization is essential for reducing soot emission in practical diesel engines. In this work, an auxiliary device called a FAD (fuel activation device) was inserted into the fuel injection line to induce cavitation in the diesel spray. The performance of the FAD was examined in terms of pollutant emissions in a field test as well as aerosol sizes in lab-scale experiments. Experimental results showed that FAD reduced the size distribution of injected droplets and decreased the fuel consumption rate and emission amounts of PM10, CO, and NOx by 42%, 50% and 13.4%, respectively.

        Research Articles : The Influence of Challenge on Cathepsin B and D Expression Patterns in the Silkworm Bombyx mori L

        Cathepsins are well-characterized proteases that are ubiquitously expressed in lysosomes. Previous work revealed that Bombyx mori cathepsins B and D are expressed in the fat body and undergo decomposition during larval-pupal metamorphosis. Quantitative RTPCR was performed to detect cathepsin gene expression at the transcription level when challenged by B. mori nuclear polyhedrosis virus (BmNPV), temperature and hormones (20-hydroxyecdysone (20E) and juvenile hormone analogue (JHA)). mRNAs encoding cathepsins B and D were significantly enhanced after the larvae were infected with BmNPV, and the peak of the induction appeared at 1 day before spinning. This attenuated the inducing effect on cathepsin expression caused by infection. Temperature shock induced cathepsin expression at the later stage of the 5th instar, and transcription levels varied with development stage and temperature. Cathepsin B and D mRNA expression in the fat body were significantly induced by JHA at the day before spinning, and with 20E, the expression reached a peak at the last day of the 5th instar. Cathepsin B and D mRNA expression exhibited detectable changes post-treatment, without significant differences between or among the hormone concentrations.

      • HER2-enriched Tumors Have the Highest Risk of Local Recurrence in Chinese Patients Treated with Breast Conservation Therapy

        Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the recurrence pattern and characteristics of patients based on the 2013 St. Gallen surrogate molecular subtypes after breast-conserving surgery (BCS) in Chinese women. Methods: This retrospective analysis included 709 consecutive breast cancer patients undergoing BCS from 1999-2010 at our institution. Five different surrogate subtypes were created using combined expression of the estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and human epidermal growth factor receptor-2. Locoregional relapse-free survival (LRRFS), distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS), and disease-free survival (DFS) rates were calculated. Results: The 5-year LRRFS, DMFS, and DFS rates were 90.5%, 88.2%, and 81.5%, respectively. Multivariate analysis revealed that young age, node-positive disease, and HER2 enrichment were independent prognostic factors in LRRFS patients. There was also an independent prognostic role of lymph node-positive disease in DMFS and DFS patients. Patients with luminal A tumors had the most favorable prognosis, with LRRFS, DMFS, and DFS rates of 93.2%, 91.5%, and 87.4% at 5 years, respectively. Conversely, HER-2-enriched tumors exhibited the highest rate of locoregional recurrence (20.6%). Conclusion: Surrogate subtypes present with significant differences in RFS, DMFS, and LRRFS. Luminal A tumors have the best prognosis, whereas HER2-enriched tumors have the poorest.
