Objectives: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) has a substantial financial impact on healthcare systems in the US. This study aimed to examine the impact of CVD on health insurance coverage and health service use under economic stress as indicated by the Great Recession in the US (December 2007-June 2009). Methods: Data of 26,483 adults aged ≥ 20 years from the 2003-2012 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were analyzed. There were 9,479 adults assigned to the group “before the Great Recession” (2003-2006), 5,674 adults assigned to “during the Great Recession” (2007-2008), and 11,330 adults assigned to “after the Great Recession” (2009-2012). Results: Patients with CVD from low-income families were more likely to have health insurance during the recession (OR:1.57, 95% CI: 1.01,2.45). Those participants without CVD, who were from low-income families or < 65 years, were more likely to use the emergency room rather than primary care facilities to gain access to routine healthcare (p < 0.05). Patients with CVD from high-income families were also more likely to use the emergency room (p < 0.05). Patients with CVD but not those without CVD, who reported a high family income or were ≥ 65 years old, were less likely to use mental health services during the recession than before the recession. Conclusion: Effective strategies need to be developed to promote primary care use among the general adult American population. In addition, use of mental health services among patients with CVD needs to be improved when financial stress occurs.
High Capacity Optical Channels for Bioinformation Transfer: Acupuncture Meridians

Mammalian bodies are hierarchical systems whose internal cooperation and coherent activity require high capacity information transfer between the central control unit e the brain e and the periphery e the organs. A communication system capable of meeting information capacity requirements should be based on transmission of electromagnetic signals. Structures that fulfill requirements for such information transfer have not yet been analyzed. Acupuncture meridians have been demonstrated experimentally in some animals. They might represent systems of information transfer between the brain and the peripheral organs. The ducts of the meridians may correspond to optical fibers operating from the far infrared to the visible wavelength region. The main features of a model of the duct as an optical fiber are delineated and its properties outlined. However, to analyze essentials of the transmission capabilities, the whole meridian structure should be mapped and a more comprehensive set of physical parameters measured. In particular,experimental data concerning morphological arrangements of ordered water in the ducts and corpuscles, and a complete content of the biological particles in the flowing water and its permittivity are missing.
The Malleability of Culture and Leadership Style in East Asia

글로별 리더십과 조직행동유효성 프로그램 (GLOBE) 의 데이터를 분석하여 우리는 동아시아 국가들 사이에 문화와 리더십 스타일에 차이가 있다는 것을 발견하였다. 이런 차이를 설명하기 위하여 우리는 새로운 이론적 관점인 제도적 공생이라는 관점을 개발하였다. 생물학의 개념에 해당되는 이 제도적 공생의 관점은 상이한 개체 또는 종들이 어떻게 제도적 환경을 포함한 어떤 환경에서 함께 살아가게 되는지를 설명한다. 이 새로운 관점은 제도파 이론에서 보이는 한계들을 극복할 수 있게 한다. 또한 사회문화와 합법적 리더십 스타일을 포함한 사회제도의 동태적인 성격을 이해하는데 도움을 준다. 이 새로운 개념이 학자와 실무자들에게 주는 시사점으로 결론을 맺었다. Analyzing the data collected for the Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness Program (GLOBE), we found some interesting differences in culture and leadership style among economies in East Asia. To explain these differences, we develop a new theoretical perspective, institutional symbiosis. Developed from a similar concept in biology, the perspective of institutional symbiosis describes how different species or elements closely living together in a certain environment, including institutional environment. This new perspective helps overcome some limitations in the current literature of institutional theory. It can also improve our understanding of the dynamic nature of social institutions, including societal cultures and legitimate leadership style. The paper concludes with a discussion on the implications of this new perspective for researchers and practitioners.

A more quantitatively controllable triple phase boundary (TPB) of a lanthanum strontium manganite/yttria-stabilized zirconia (LSM/YSZ) interface was constructed by using an YSZ ionic probe with well-defined dimensions. A bar-shaped, dense YSZ sintered body was employed as an ionic probe and embedded in the pellet-shaped, dense LSM bulk. The TPB length of the LSM/YSZ interface can be simply determined from the circumference of the YSZ bars. To identify the reaction mechanism of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) at the TPB of the LSM/YSZ interface, limited-contact AC impedance spectroscopy was used; this distinguished the LSM/YSZ interface related polarization from other polarizations present in the Pt/LSM/YSZ/Pt electrochemical cell. By analyzing the electrode-related polarizations in the electrochemical cell with the geometrically quantified YSZ ionic probe, the rate determining step of the ORR was the diffusion of adsorbed oxygen along the LSM bulk surface. In this paper, emphasis is placed on the experimental versatility and the limitations of our designed electrochemical analysis with bar-shaped ionic probes.
Finite-Time Convergent Guidance Law Based on Second-Order Sliding Mode Control Theory

The complex battlefield environment makes it difficult to intercept maneuvering targets for guided missiles. In this paper, a finite-time convergent (FTC) guidance law based on the second-order sliding mode (SOSM) control theory is proposed to achieve the requirements of stability, accuracy and robustness. More specifically, a second-order sliding mode observer (SMOB) is used to estimate and compensate for the total disturbance of the controlled system, while the target acceleration is extracted from the line-of-sight (LOS) angle measurement. The proposed guidance law can drive the LOS angular rate converge to zero in a finite time, which means that the missile will accurately intercept the target. Numerical simulations with some comparisons are performed to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed guidance law.
The Band Offset at CdS/Cu2ZnSnS4 Heterojunction Interface

The band offset at the CdS/Cu2ZnSnS4 heterojunction interface is studied by measuring the valence band spectra using synchrotron radiation photoemission spectroscopy. The Cu2ZnSnS4 thin films are prepared by the sulfurization of electrodeposited Cu-Zn-Sn precursors. A CdS overlayer is sequentially grown on the Cu2ZnSnS4 thin films from a chemical bath deposition process. Valence band spectra were obtained before and after each period of growth to study the electronic structure at the heterojunction interface. The valence band offset was determined to be 0.96 eV, and the conduction band offset was determined to be .0.06 eV. This means that the CdS/Cu2ZnSnS4 hetrojunction has a ‘type II’ band alignment which will cause largescale recombination at the interfaces and will not be suitable for solar cells fabrication.

「国語」は近代国家において構築された制度である。「国語」はすべての国民が使用する言語として均一性が求められる。均一な言語によって連帯感をもたせるのが「国語」の役割である。標準語、文法、辞書がその役割を果たす。『大言海』と『大日本国語辞典』本格的な辞書の時代を開いた大型辞書で、刊行当時「国民最高の辞典』、『国威宣揚』と評価され、戦前の日本の国力の象徴であった。大槻文彦による『大言海』は明治22年の『言海』を土台にしている。98、000語を収録した同辞典は、語源の研究がもっともの特徴である。『大日本国語辞典』は上田万年と松井簡治によるものである。上田は日本の「国語」構築を指揮した人物である。20万語を収録した同辞典は古語、現代語、学術専門語などを網羅している。両辞典は現在の日本の辞書の土台となっている。言語の規範は常に変るもので、辞書の規範と国家主義は区別して見なければならない。 The National language is a system created in modern countries. The National language seeks unity as a language used by all citizens. Standard language, grammar, and dictionaries play a role. ‘Daigenkai’ and ‘Dainihon Kokugojiten’ were the first large-scale dictionaries in Japan. Both dictionaries were evaluated as ‘the nation’s best dictionary’ and ‘promoting national prestige’. The two dictionaries symbolized Japan’s power with the victory of war from the 1910s. Otsuki Humihiko created ‘Genkai’ in 1889. ‘Daigenkai’ is an evolution of ‘Genkai’. It contains 98,000 words. ‘Daigenkai’ is characterized by the study of the etymology of the word. ‘Dainihon Kokugojiten’ was created by Ueda Kazutosi and Matsui Kanji. In particular, Ueda is the creator of the Japanese language. ‘Dainihon Kokugojiten’, which contains 200,000 words, contains all of ancient, modern, technical and academic terms. Both dictionaries form the basis of the present-day Japanese dictionaries. The norms of language are always changing。A distinction must be made between dictionary norms and nationalism.
Self-association of bee propolis: effects on pharmaceutical applications

Propolis is a resinous product collected byhoneybees from various plant sources; it is widely used intraditional medicine and has been reported to have a broadspectrum of pharmacological effects (i.e., antibacterial,antifungal, antiviral and anti-inflammatory effects). Themost commonly used propolis formulations are gargles, inwhich propolis tinctures are diluted with water. The dilutionprocess is accompanied by nanoprecipitation, and thepropolis droplets are dispersed in the prepared gargle. Inthe present study, we investigated the dependence of theproperties of propolis nanodispersions on the method ofpreparation. The particle size was found to be approximately150 nm and was observed to decrease withincreasing dilution as the zeta potential of the particlesbecame more negative, which stabilized the dispersion. The dispersion dissolved upon alkalization and reprecipitatedduring acidification. The addition of salt destabilizedthe dispersion. The uptake of propolis from the dispersionwas modeled using 1-octanol and was found to be rapidand only slightly dependent on the nanoparticle size. Propolis susceptibility tests showed that the most effectivedispersion of propolis was tenfold-diluted EEP (P-80-10and JP-80-10). The disc diffusion method was used toevaluate the antibacterial activity of chosen dispersions ofpropolis against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coliand Candida albicans. Propolis samples with differentlocations of origin exhibited different effects against thestrain of C. albicans.
Concept Design and Performance Evaluation of UAV-based Backhaul Link with Antenna Steering

At present, cellular coverage in many rural areas remainsintermittent. Mobile operators may not be willing to deployexpensive network infrastructure to support low-demand regions. For that reason, solutions for the rapid deployment of base stationsin areas with insufficient or damaged operator infrastructureare emerging. Utilization of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) ordrones serving as data relays holds significant promise for deliveringon-demand connectivity as well as providing public safety servicesor aiding in recovery after communication infrastructure failurescaused by natural disasters. The use of UAVs in provisioninghigh-rate radio connectivity and bringing it to remote locations isalso envisioned as a potential application for fifth-generation (5G)communication systems. In this study, we introduce a prototypesolution for an aerial base station, where connectivity between adrone and a base station is provided via a directional microwavelink. Our prototype is equipped with a steering mechanism drivenby a dedicated algorithm to support such connectivity. Our experimentalresults demonstrate early-stage connectivity and signalstrength measurements that were gathered with our prototype. Our results are also compared against the free-space model. Thesefindings support the emerging vision of aerial base stations as partof the 5G ecosystem and beyond.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Secondary woodlands in South Korea cover most mountains from low to middle elevations. While general patterns of forest succession are well understood, little is known about mechanisms of stand recovery after disturbance. We examined the spatio‐temporal variations in establishment, growth, size inequality, and mode of competition among trees in a 50‐year‐old post‐logging <I>Quercus mongolica</I>‐dominated stand. We further compared the growth and stem allometry of single trees, presumably of seed origin, with multi‐stemmed trees resprouting from stumps. <I>Q. mongolica</I> formed the upper canopy 16–22 m tall, 88.3% of total stand basal area, and 36.2% of total stem density, with most trees established during the first post‐logging decade (51.2% were resprouts). During the first three decades, the <I>Q. mongolica</I> recruits grew exponentially, and disproportionately more in diameter than few older reserved trees left after the last cutting. This substantially decreased size inequality. The reverse trend was observed from 1994 to 2004: larger trees grow more, indicating an increasing asymmetry of competition for light. Neighborhood analysis revealed that when target trees had more or larger neighbors, their exponential phase of growth was reduced and maximum size was decreased. After the 50 years of stand development, more than 70% of <I>Q. mongolica</I> showed growth decline as a result of competitive stress, and mortality was about 30%, concentrated in smaller size classes. Compared to single stems, resprouts within clones do not seem to compete less asymmetric as might be expected based on studies of clonal herbaceous plants and physiological integration within genets. As <I>Q. mongolica</I> was also negatively affected by competition from woody species currently prevailing in the lower tree stratum (<I>Tilia amurensis, Acer mono, Fraxinus rhynchophylla, Acer pseudosieboldianum</I>), we predict the stand will become increasingly dominated by these more shade‐tolerant trees.</P>
