Localized Mobility Management in MPLS-based Access Networks
Javier Carmona-Murillo,Jose-Luis Gonzalez-Sanchez,Francisco-Javier Rodriguez-Per,David Cortes-Polo 한국산학기술학회 2012 SmartCR Vol.2 No.2
The continuous efforts made towards efficient mobility management in next-generation wireless networks are one of the major challenges for next-generation mobile systems. To track host mobility, the IETF has developed some mobility management protocols such as Mobile IP and Proxy Mobile IPv6. These protocols set up a tunnel to forward packets to the mobile node while the user is away from its home network. The tunneling method provided by Multi-Protocol Label Switching can be profitably used to take advantage of the Multi-Protocol Label Switching traffic engineering capability to achieve fast-reroute when a mobile node changes its point of attachment to the network. Moreover, service disruption during handoffs causes excessive packet loss that needs to be minimized to support quality of service requirements of emerging applications. We present a performance evaluation and numerical results of the most representative host-based and network-based mobility management approaches. We highlight the importance of the tunneling method with special attention to those protocols that have integrated Multi-Protocol Label Switching in its access network.
Leveling: an Efficient VLC for Lossless Data Compression
Javier Joglar Alcubilla 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Signal Processing, Image Vol.9 No.3
Many of the standard compression methods are based, at their lowest level, in coding digital words of variable length or VLC, Huffman type, designed in 1952 or in any of its versions, as canonical. This article presents an VLC with greater efficiency than Huffman encoding, named as “Leveling”, which uses two variants, “Leveled Reordering” for low redundancy, e.g. for text and, “Segmented Leveling” for middle and high redundancy, for image processing. Leveling, developed by Javier Joglar in 1995, uses the concepts of “meaning” and “ordering” of the VLC codes generated, to get optimum performance in terms of “compression ratio”, higher than any other non-adaptive VLC.
Motion-based Optimum Design of a Slender Steel Footbridge and Assessment of Its Dynamic Behaviour
Javier Fernando Jiménez-Alonso,Andres Sáez 한국강구조학회 2017 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.17 No.4
The improvement of construction materials together with the current aesthetic requirements has led the modern footbridges to a continuous increase in their slenderness. For this reason, the design of their structural systems is mainly conditioned by its dynamic response under pedestrian action. For long-span footbridges, control devices are needed to prevent unacceptable dynamic responses while providing economical designs. However, for medium-span footbridges, it is still possible to control their dynamic response via the modification of their natural frequencies. In this paper, an alternative motion-based design method is first proposed and further implemented for the design of a real footbridge. The main idea of this approach is to optimally determine the structural stiffness distribution to verify an adequate comfort class, while minimizing the self-weight. Furthermore, the uncertainties of its modal parameters are considered during its design. After the construction of the footbridge, its dynamic behaviour was experimentally assessed, with satisfactory results.

Objective DISC1 gene is one of the main candidate genes for schizophrenia since it has been associated to the illness in several populations. Moreover, variations in several DISC1 polymorphisms, and in particular Ser704Cys SNP, have been associated in schizophrenic patients to structural and functional modifications in two brain areas (pre-frontal cortex and hippocampus) that play a central role in the genesis of psychotic symptoms. This study tested the association between Ser704Cys DISC1 polymorphism and the clinical onset of psychosis. Methods Two hundred and thirteen Caucasian drug-naïve patients experiencing a first episode of non-affective psychosis were genotyped for rs821616 (Ser704Cys) SNP of the DISC1 gene. The clinical severity of the illness was assessed using SAPS and SANS scales. Other clinical and socio-demographic variables were recorded to rule out possible confounding effects. Results Patients homozygous for the Ser allele of the Ser704Cys DISC1 SNP had significantly (p<0.05) higher rates at the positive symptoms dimension (SAPS-SANS scales) and hallucinations item, compared to Cys carriers. Conclusion DISC1 gene variations may modulate the clinical severity of the psychosis at the onset of the disorder.
