        A Novel Spectral Analysis of Ultrashort Pulse Transmission Using the Pulse-Ordering Concept

        In this paper, we analyze transmission characteristics of ultrashort laser pulses using the properties of high-order pulses which are systematically obtained following their orders. The high-order pulses are easily derived from a modified PRS system model. But we make clear they are very useful to cover wider area and to show more accurate transmission characteristics of ultrashort pulses than Gaussian or Sech pulse approximations used conventionally. These are based on the fact that the spectra and bandwidths of the high-order pulses are geautifully related to their orders. First modifying the generalized PRS system model, we propose a new model for deriving any type of high-order pulse. And we offer a novel analysis method of ultrashort pulse transmission varying the order of the pulse from n=1 to n=100, we obtain spectra of ultrashort pulses with 1(ps)∼150(fs) FWHM's, which are widely used in optical pulse communications. One-step further, we derive PSD's of their pulse-tr ins when they are applied to Unipolar signaling scheme. These PSD's are decided in the range of possible pulse intervals. All of these results are not only coincided with some conventional experimental works but will be applied to any pioneering ultrashort pulse in the future.

        김종철 초기 시의 가톨릭 세계관에 대한 일고찰-「죽음의 둔주곡」과 「떠도는 섬」을 중심으로-

        김종철 시인은 1968년 『한국일보』 신춘문예에 「재봉」이, 1970년 『서울신문』 신춘문예에 「바다 변주곡」이 각각 당선되어 시단에 등장했으며, 2014년 지병으로 작고하기까지 46년 동안 시작 활동을 했다. 그는 생전에 간행한 모두 7권의 시집과 유고시집 『절두산 부활의 집』 등 8권의 단독 시집, 형인 김종해 시인과 함께 간행한 형제시인 시집 『어머니, 우리 어머니』, 시선집 『못과 삶과 꿈』, 『못 박는 사람』 등을 상재한 바 있다. 베트남전쟁에 참전했던 김종철 시인은 첫 시집『서울의 유서』의 대표작 「죽음의 둔주곡」을 모두 9곡 205행의 작품으로 완성하였다. 이 시는 대위법 형식의 악곡인 둔주곡에 맞춰 각 곡과 곡에 죽음과 죽음의 이미지를 연쇄적으로 제시하고, 그 이미지들을 서로 겹치고 중첩시키면서 비극성을 강화하고 비장미를 심화시키는 방향으로 전개된다. 또 두 번째 시집『오이도』의 대표작 가운데 하나인 「떠도는 섬」도 11개로 구분된 단편 서정시들이 모두 181행에 이르는 시행을 포함하는 작품이다. 이 시는 전반적인 내용과 그 분량 면에서 두 번째 시집을 대표할 뿐만 아니라, 특별히 ‘오이도’ 연작 7편을 개관하는 의욕적인 작품이다. 본고에서는 김종철의 초기 시를 대표하는 「죽음의 둔주곡」과 「떠도는 섬」을 중심으로 그의 세계가 가톨릭의 바탕 위에 성립되었다는 점을 확인하고, 그것은 믿음의 윤리화이자 윤리의 신앙화라고 할 수 있음을 살펴보았다. 김종철에게 가톨릭 세계관은 무엇보다 ‘계시의 믿음’ 자체이지만, 그것의 작품화인 「죽음의 둔주곡」과 「떠도는 섬」은 믿음의 실천이자 믿음의 윤리화였다. Poet Kim Jong-chul received the ‘Hankook ilbo Spring Literary Award’ with ‘Jaebong(sewing)’ in 1968 and ‘Seoul Newspaper Spring Literary Award’ with ‘Sea Variations’ in 1970 and so began his literary career. Before his death as a chronic disease in 2014, he had done the poetical works for 46 years. In his lifetime, he published the seven collections of poetry, eight poems including the posthumous collection, “The House of Revival of Jeoldusan”, a sibling collection of poems along with his elder brother Kim Jong-hae “Mother, Our Mother” and a collection of poems “Nails and Life and Dreams” and “The Man Who hammer Nails.” Poet Kim Jong-chul who participated in the Vietnam War completed ‘The Fugue of Death’ which was the representative work of the first collection of poems “The Will of the Seoul” with nine songs and 205 lines. This work was unfolded to present a series of images of death and death to each song and song in line with fugue, a musical piece in the form of a counterpoint, and to strengthen tragedy and deepen the tragic beauty by overlapping and duplicating the images. And ‘The Floating Island’, one of the representative works of the second collection of poems “The Oido(Oi Island)” was a masterpiece that includes a total of 181 verses of short lyric poems of 11 features. From the perspective of the overall content and quantity, this work not only represented the second collection of poems, but it was also a highly motivated work that overviewed seven series of “Oido”. In this paper, through the analysis of Kim Jong-chul’s early major poems, ‘The Fugue of Death’ and ‘The Floating Island’, it confirmed that his world was established on a Catholic basis, it regarded an ethicalization of faith and a religious belief in ethics. Although the Catholic world view is for Kim Jong-chul the ‘belief in revelation’ itself, to made it into a work of art, ‘The Fugue of Death’ and ‘The Floating Island’ were the practice of faith and the ethnicise of faith.

        Assessment of stock market contagion during the subprime mortgage crisis using GARCH-in-VAR model

        In this paper, we provide an assessment of stock market contagionbased on the multivariate GARCH-in-VAR model, where the meanequation of VAR involves conditional volatility. Our specification ofGARCH-in-VAR can detect cross-market linkages by the risk-toreturnvolatility effect of the conditional volatility in VAR as well as thereturn-to-return interdependence effect of the structural shocks. Significant changes in interdependence and the volatility effectprovide important evidence for contagion caused by increases incross-market linkages through these two channels. Applying thisapproach to the subprime mortgage crisis, we examine whether thereexisted financial contagion between the stock markets of the U.S. andthose of the major countries in Asia, America, and Europe. Empiricalassessment confirms that most of the countries experienced contagionthrough either one of the two channels or through both channels, andthat through which channel the crisis is transmitted to a countrydepends on the country’s economic robustness and global financialmarket integration. The impact of a shock from the U.S. on othermarkets tends to be more pronounced and persistent when it ispropagated through the volatility effect than through interdependence.

        Application of Area-Saving RF Test Structure on Mobility Extraction

        An RF test structure is proposed and its applicability is confirmed by measuring DC characteristics and high frequency characteristics. Effective mobility extraction is also performed to confirm the validity of proposed test structure. The area of suggested test structure consumed on wafer was decreased by more than 50% and its characteristics do not be degraded compared with conventional structure.

      • A Current Distortion Compensation Scheme for Four-Switch Inverters

        <P>The four-switch inverter, having a lower number of insulated gate bipolar transistors(IGBTs), has been studied for the possibility of reducing the inverter cost. But it has a limited performance in the low-frequency region, because the balance among the phase currents collapses due to the fluctuation of the center tap voltage of the DC-link capacitors. This problem could be solved if the DC-link capacitance is infinitely large, but it is a costly solution. In this paper, this problem is looked at from the perspective of source impedance and the voltage variation caused by the current flow through the capacitors. The source impedance of the center tap is large compared with other normal IGBT arms. This causes an asymmetry among the three voltage sources, resulting in phase current distortion and unbalance. Second, the capacitor voltage change caused by current flow is another source of current distortion and unbalance. The voltage errors are derived, and based on them, a compensation method is proposed. Effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by the simulation and experimental results.</P>

      • AN AUTHENTICATION MECHANISM PREVENTING MALICIOUS DEVICES FROM PARTICIPATING IN ZIGBEE NETWORK

        ZigBee, LR-WPAN's major technology. is based on IEEE 802.15.4 specification and ZigBee Alliance to realize home network environment. While basic security services are provided, there is a lack of more advanced techniques which are indispensable in modern ZigBee application. But, in ZigBee network. ZigBee coordinator progresses key exchange protocol without device authentication when initial device joined in ZigBee network. It can cause various kinds of attacks through malicious devices within ZigBee network. In this paper, we propose an authentication mechanism preventing malicious devices from participating in ZigBee network. The proposed mechanism provides authentication for initial device with ZigBee coordinator which 'serves as authentication server.

        Introduction to cerebral cavernous malformation: a brief review

        The disease known as cerebral cavernous malformations mostly occurs in the central nervous system, and their typical histological presentations are multiple lumen formation and vascular leakage at the brain capillary level, resulting in disruption of the blood-brain barrier. These abnormalities result in severe neurological symptoms such as seizures, focal neurological deficits and hemorrhagic strokes. CCM research has identified ``loss of function`` mutations of three ccm genes responsible for the disease and also complex regulation of multiple signaling pathways including the WNT/β-catenin pathway, TGF-β and Notch signaling by the ccm genes. Although CCM research is a relatively new and small scientific field, as CCM research has the potential to regulate systemic blood vessel permeability and angiogenesis including that of the blood-brain barrier, this field is growing rapidly. In this review, I will provide a brief overview of CCM pathogenesis and function of ccm genes based on recent progress in CCM research. [BMB Reports 2016; 49(5): 255-262]
