      • Distinctive Features of Advancing Breast Cancer Cells and Interactions with Surrounding Stroma Observed Under the Scanning Electron Microscope

Jaafar, Hasnan,Sharif, Sharifah Emilia Tuan,Murtey, Mogana Das Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.4

Breast cancer cells undergo transformation when they spread into surrounding tissues. Studies have shown that cancer cells undergo surface alterations and interact with the surrounding microenvironment during the invasion process. The aim of the present study was to analyse these cancer cell surface alterations and interactions of cancer cells and stroma. Twenty 1-methyl-1-nitrosourea-induced breast cancer samples taken from five rats were fixed in McDowell-Trump fixative and then washed in 0.1 M phosphate buffer. The samples were then treated with osmium tetroxide before being washed in distilled water and subsequently dehydrated through graded ethanols. The dehydrated samples were immersed in hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS), then following removal of excess HMDS, the samples were air dried at room temperature in a dessicator. The dried samples were mounted onto specimen stubs and coated with gold coater before being viewed under a scanning electron microscope. We detected the presence of membrane ruffles on the surface of cancer cells and the formation of unique surface membrane protrusions to enhance movement and adhesion to the surrounding stroma during the process of invasion. Advancing cancer cells demonstrated formation of lamellipodia and invadopodia. The stroma at the advancing edge was desmoplastic with many collagen fibres laid down near the cancer cells. Our data suggest that all of these abnormalities could act as hallmarks of invasiveness for breast cancer.

      • Expression of Bax and Bcl-2 in Tumour Cells and Blood Vessels of Breast Cancer and their Association with Angiogenesis and Hormonal Receptors

Jaafar, Hasnan,Abdullah, Suhaila,Murtey, Mogana Das,Idris, Fauziah M. Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.8

A total of 96 cases of invasive breast ductal carcinoma were examined for immunohistochemical expression of Bax and Bcl-2 in the epithelial tumor cells and endothelial cells of the blood vessels. We also investigated the association between both proteins in the epithelium in relation to tumor characteristics such as tumor size, grade, lymph node involvement, microvessel density (MVD), hormonal receptors expression and c-erbB-2 overexpression. Bax expression showed a significant association between tumor and endothelial cells (p<0.001) while Bcl-2 expression in tumor cells was inversely associated with that in the endothelial cells (p<0.001). Expression of Bcl-2 in tumor cells was strongly associated with expression of estrogen and progesterone receptors (p=0.003 and p=0.004, respectively). In addition, intratumoral MVD was significantly higher than peritumoral MVD (p<0.001) but not associated with Bax or Bcl-2 expression and other tumor characteristics. We concluded that the number of endothelial cells undergoing apoptosis was in direct linkage with the number of apoptotic tumor cells. Anti-apoptotic activity of the surviving tumor cells appears to propagate cancer progression and this was influenced by the hormonal status of the cells. Tumor angiogenesis was especially promoted in the intratumoral region and angiogenesis was independent of anti-apoptotic activity.

Accuracy of casts produced from conventional and digital workflows: A qualitative and quantitative analyses

Jaafar Abduo 대한치과보철학회 2019 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.11 No.2

PURPOSE. Comparing the accuracy of casts produced from digital workflow to that of casts produced from conventional techniques. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Whole arch alginate (ALG) and polyvinyl siloxane (PVS) impressions were taken with stock trays and custom trays, respectively. The ALG impressions were poured with type III dental stone, while the PVS impressions were poured with type IV dental stone. For the digital workflow, IOS impressions were taken and physical casts were produced by 3D printing. In addition, 3D printed casts were produced from images obtained from a laboratory scanner (LS). For each technique, a total of 10 casts were produced. The accuracies of the whole arch and separated teeth were virtually quantified. RESULTS. Whole arch cast accuracy was more superior for PVS followed by LS, ALG, and IOS. The PVS and ALG groups were inferior in the areas more susceptible to impression material distortion, such as fossae and undercut regions. The LS casts appeared to have generalized errors of minor magnitude influencing primarily the posterior teeth. The IOS casts were considerably more affected at the posterior region. On the contrary, the IOS and LS casts were more superior for single tooth accuracy followed by PVS and ALG. CONCLUSION. For whole arch accuracy, casts produced from IOS were inferior to those produced from PVS and ALG. The inferior outcome of IOS appears to be related to the span of scanning. For single tooth accuracy, IOS showed superior accuracy compared to conventional impressions.

Nurliyana Jaafar Sidek,Mi-Hwa Song 한국인터넷방송통신학회 2017 International Journal of Internet, Broadcasting an Vol.9 No.3

The best ‘hub’ to communicate with the citizen is using social media to marketing the business. However, there has several issued and the most common issue that face in critical is a capital issue. This issue is always highlight because most of automatic sentiment detection tool for Facebook or any other social media price is expensive and they lack of technical skills in order to control the tool. Therefore, in directly they have some obstacle to get faster product’s feedback from customers. Thus, the personal online retailing need to struggle to stay in market because they need to compete with successful online company such as G-market. Sentiment analysis also known as opinion mining. Aim of this research is develop the tool that allow user to automatic detect the sentiment comment on social media account. RAD model methodology is chosen since its have several phases could produce more activities and output. Soppy tool will be develop using Microsoft Visual. In order to generate an accurate sentiment detection, the functionality testing will be use to find the effectiveness of this Soppy tool. This proposed automated Soppy Tool would be able to provide a platform to measure the impact of the customer sentiment over the postings on their social media site. The results and findings from the impact measurement could then be use as a recommendation in the developing or reviewing to enhance the capability and the profit to their personal online retailing company.

Superconducting and elastic properties of (Dy1 χ-Prχ)BaSrCu₃O7-δ

        NorAzahNik-Jaafar,R.Abd-Shukor 한국물리학회 2003 Current Applied Physics Vol.3 No.5

Pr-substituted (Dy1. xPrx)BaSrCu3O7. d (x ¼ 0:elastic properties. Structural transition from orthorhombic to tetragonal symmetry is observed atx ¼ 0:1. Temperature-dependent sound velocity was measured using the pulse-echo overlap method. Elastic anomalies in the form of lattice stien-ing with decreasing temperature were observed above 200 K. These anomalies were attributed to oxygen vacancy orderingsin the Cu(1)O plane and also depended on the congurational state of oxygen orderings which is strongly inuenced by Pr-doping.. 2003 Elsevier B.V. Hemiballismus in Uncontrolled Diabetes Mellitus

Juhaida Jaafar,Razlina Abdul Rahman,Nani Draman,Nor Akma Yunus 대한가정의학회 2018 Korean Journal of Family Medicine Vol.39 No.3

Hemiballismus, a subtype of chorea, is a rare movement disorder, and is most commonly found secondary to stroke. Movements are involuntary, violent, coarse, and have a wide amplitude. There is increasing report of hemi-ballismus occurring in non-ketotic hyperglycemia. Spontaneous improvements or remissions were observed in many patients, and treatment should be directed towards the cause of hemiballismus. There is no randomized control trial to guide clinicians in deciding the best treatment option when managing hemiballismus. Symptomatic treatment includes the use of drugs such as dopamine receptor blocker and tetrabenazine. Surgical treatment is re-served for severe, persistent, and disabling hemiballismus. This case is of an elderly woman with long standing un-controlled diabetes who presented with abnormal movement in her left upper limb for 2 months, which resolved slowly with good control of her glucose levels. Treating physicians need to have a high index of suspicion to prevent mismanagement of the condition.

Important Considerations in Manufacturing of Natural Fiber Composites: A Review

Jamiluddin Jaafar,Januar Parlaungan Siregar,Salwani Mohd Salleh,Mohd Hazim Mohd Hamdan,Tezara Cionita,Teuku Rihayat 한국정밀공학회 2019 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.6 No.3

The paper overviews the essential considerations in the manufacturing process of natural fiber composites which influence the performance of biocomposites. The evaluation of thermal properties of composites matrix and natural fiber chemical composition and physical properties appears to be necessary as the initial screening factors before the manufacturing process of biocomposites. On the other hand, considerations on fiber composition, type of manufacturing process and parameter used are seen as other crucial significant factors that need to be focused during the manufacturing of biocomposites. Moreover, the treatment used in the manufacturing process such as alkali treatment and coupling agent utilization should also be highlighted as additional important measures for better performance of biocomposites. In this review, all significant factors that influence the performance outcome of natural fiber composites are highlighted to provide the base-line source of literature for the manufacturing and production of composites sample. It is expected that the findings from the present study could further enhance the performance of natural fiber composites and able to become the preferred alternative or replacement for petroleum-based polymer in various industrial and commercial applications in the future.
