Fabrication and Application of Lipid Coated Core/Shell Nanoparticles

Bioengineering strategies to enhance the natural targeting function of nanocarriers would magnify their therapeutic application. Here, we designed and developed the bioengineered nanocarriers to increase their retention time and achieve robust targeting by coating the surface of nanoparticles with different types of lipids. The lipid coating did not only increase the retention time of drugs and growth factors, but it also enhanced their circulation time in the body. Several types of lipids including cell membranes were tested for various applications. The reported strategy opens the door for the creation of biocompatible and custom-tailored biomimetic nanoparticles with varying hybrid functionalities, which may be used to overcome the limitations of current nanoparticle-based therapeutic and imaging platforms.

Purpose The purpose of this case report was to describe the effects of a 6-week physical therapy program consisting of strengthening exercises, balance training, stretching and self- managing education of an adult with bilateral knee osteoarthritis (OA) and cerebral vascular accident (CVA) during an outpatient episode of care. Methods The individual was a 62-year-old female with a history of bilateral knee osteoarthritis and recent history of mild CVA. The subject participated in a 6-week physical therapy program consisting of strengthening exercises, balance training, stretching and self- managing education. The subject was seen 3 times a week, with a day of recovery between each therapy session. The Lower Extremity Functional Scale (LEFS), Berg Balance Scale (BBS), Manual Muscle Test (MMT), Time Up and Go (TUG), Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS), 10-Meter Walk Test (10MWT) and Five Time Sit to Stand Test (FTSST) were used to assess progress in this subject. Results Outcome measures were used at evaluation and were administered every two weeks. The Timed Up and Go improved from 22 seconds to 12 seconds. The Five Time Sit to Stand Test improved from 39 seconds to 16 seconds, while the Berg Balance Scale improved from 43 to 52 points. Lower Extremity Functional Scale improved by 9 points and gait speed improved by 0.27m/s. The Numeric Pain Rating Scale was monitored throughout the course of treatment, which served as a guide that pain was not exacerbated and that the exercise program was well tolerated by the subject. Conclusion This case report describes an exercise program that significantly decreasing pain, while improving balance, functional strength, and gait kinematics with no adverse effect in a subject with bilateral knee osteoarthritis with recent mild CVA. We believe that a significant reduction of pain induces a better functional performance in the subject with OA and CVA.
Lipid polymer hybrid nanospheres encapsulating antiproliferative agents for stent applications

<P>Antiproliferative drug (sirolimus or propolis) loaded lipid polymer hybrid nanospheres (LPHNSs) were prepared by single step method. The effects of different lipids on properties of nanocarrier were investigated. Furthermore, anti proliferative efficiency and cytotoxicity of LPHHNSs-propolis or sirolimus were investigated on human aortic smooth muscle cells (HASMCs), and human aortic endothelial primary cells (HAECs) respectively. The characterization of LPHNSs revealed that the lipids used in the formulation influence physiochemical parameters. In vitro studies showed that the encapsulated sirolimus and propolis significantly reduced the proliferation of HASMCs, while maintaining high HAECs viability. Lipid-based surface engineering of PLGA nanoparticles for drug and gene delivery applications

The use of poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA)-based nanocarriers presents several major challenges, including their synthetic hydrophobic surface, low transfection efficiency, short circulation half-life, and nonspecific tissue distribution. Numerous engineering strategies have been employed to overcome these problems, with lipid-based surface functionalization of PLGA nanoparticles (NPs) showing promising results in the development of PLGA-based clinical nanomedicines. Surface engineering with different lipids enhances the target specificity of the carrier and improves its physicochemical properties as well as NP-cell associations, such as cellular membrane permeability, immune responses, and long circulation half-life in vivo. This review focuses on recent advances in the lipid-based surface engineering of PLGA NPs for drug and gene delivery applications.

1) 비산욕기 자궁 내번증은 한국에서 뿐만이 아니라 전 세계에서도 드문 부인과적 질환의 하나이다. 2) 14세된 소녀에서 발생한 원인 불명의 비산욕기 완전 자궁 내번증 1예를 보고하였다. 3) 자궁내번증의 분류는 일반적으로 다음과 같다. A. 산욕기 또는 산과적(puerperal or obstetric) a) 급성(acute) b) 만성(chronic) B. 비산욕기 또는 부인과적(Non-puerperal, or Gynecologic) ㄱ. 종양성(tumor-produced) 급성(acute) 만성(chronic) ㄴ. 원인불명(Idiopathic) 급성(acute) 만성(chronic) 4) 내번의 정도는 완전과 불완전(complete and incomplete)로 나누고 완전한 경우가 비 산욕기에 많다. 5) 종양성 자궁 내번증의 기전은 ㄱ. 종양에 의해 자궁이 팽창된 다음 갑자기 자궁의 빔(emptying) ㄴ. 종양에 의해 자궁벽의 얇아짐(thinning) ㄷ. 자궁경부의 개대(dilatation) 등이다. 6) 원인적 종양으로서 fibroid가 대부분이다. 7) 비산욕 자궁 내번증은 30세 이후에 호발한다. 8) 증상은 월경 곤란증, 월경과 다증과 냉증 등이다. 9) 진단은 대개 이학적 방법으로 쉽게 행할 수 있다. 10) 치료는 질을 통한 복구 방법으로서 Kustner와 Spinelli법이 있고 복벽을 통한 복구 방법으로서는 Huntington과 Haultain법이 있다. A case of nonpuerperal inversion of uterus, occured in only 14-years old girl with unknown cause, experienced in thes gospital in May 1976, is reported with brieg review of the literaturew.
