        Serial values for hematologic and biochemical analysis after myocardial infarction in rats

        To diagnose acute myocardial infarction(MI), many cardiac markers have been used in hematologic and biochemical analysis, and many studies have been published for hema-tologic and biochemical analysis associated with human acute MI. However, after occurrence of acute MI, the serial investigation for values in hematologic and bioche-mical analysis including chronic MI has rarely been performed. To observe the change of the serial values in hematologic and biochemical analysis, we induced artificial MI. The left main descending artery(LMDA) of the left coronary artery was ligated during the progression(day 1, 3, 5, 7, 14 and 30) of MI. Total 66 Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into the sham group(n=24, thoracotomy without LMDA ligation) and the experimental(MI) group(n=42, with LMDA ligation). And all individual in each group was sacrified at day 1, 3, 5, 7, 14 and 30 for the hematologic and biochemical analysis. In comparison of hematologic analysis between the sham and MI groups, the mean values of red blood cell(RBCs), hemoglobin and hematocrit(HCT) showed a steady increase. In biochemical analysis, the mean values of glucose, choles-terol, total creatine kinase(CK) and isoenzyme MB, and lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) were increased in all MI groups compared with the sham groups. The results of this study suggest that early hematologic and biochemical mean values occurred after acute MI are similar to those of human acute MI. In conclusion, we could observe the alterations and serial values in hematologic and biochemical analysis to the extent of chronic status after acute MI.

        Effects of sperm insemination on the final meiotic maturation of mouse oocytes arrested at metaphase I after in vitro maturation

        Objective: The aims of this study were to investigate whether fertilization could induce the resumption of meiosis in mouse oocytes arrested at metaphase I (MI) after in vitro maturation (IVM), and to investigate the effect of $Ca^{2+}$ chelator treatment at the time of fertilization on the transition from MI to metaphase II (MII). Methods: MII-stage and arrested MI-stage mouse oocytes after IVM were fertilized, and then embryonic development was monitored. Blastocysts from each group were transferred into 2.5 days post-coitum pseudo-pregnant ICR mice. MI oocytes after IVM were treated with a $Ca^{2+}$ chelator to investigate the effect of $Ca^{2+}$ oscillations on their maturation. Results: As insemination time increased, the number of oocytes in the MI group that reached the MII stage also increased. The blastocyst rates and total cell numbers in the MII group were significantly higher than in the MI group. No pregnancy occurred in the MI group, but 10 pregnancies were achieved (10 of 12) in the MII group. The proportion of MI oocytes that matured to MII oocytes after fertilization was significantly higher in the non-treated group than in the $Ca^{2+}$ chelator-treated group. Conclusion: The findings that a higher proportion of MI-arrested oocytes progressed to MII after fertilization and that the MI-to-MII transition was blocked by $Ca^{2+}$ chelator treatments before fertilization indicate that the maturation of MI oocytes to MII oocytes is associated with intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ oscillations driven by fertilization.

      • Histone deacetylase 3 is selectively involved in L3MBTL2-mediated transcriptional repression

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>This is the first report that L(3)mbt-like 2 (L3MBTL2) specifically interacts with the histone deacetylase domain of histone deacetylase 3 (HDAC3) via its MBT domain. Here, we show that L3MBTL2 selectively interacts with HDAC3, but not other class I HDACs. An in vitro peptide-binding assay demonstrated the specific association of HDAC3 with methylated histone-K20 tail and L3MBTL2. Furthermore, depletion of HDAC3 resulted in a decrease of methylated K20-H4, as well as an increase in acetylated histone H3. Consequently, HDAC3 knock-down selectively suppressed L3MBTL2-mediated transcriptional repression.         미세각막절개 백내장 수술 후 낭내 삽입한 일체형 비구면 인공수정체의 임상 결과

        Purpose: To evaluate the stability and optical performance of the newly developed single-piece aspheric intraocular lens (IOL) by comparing the clinical outcome of the aspheric IOL with the new optic profile design (HOYA iSert, HOYA iMics) and the aspheric IOL (Akreos MI60), which has been proven effective and safe. Methods: iSert, iMics, and MI60 were inserted into 55 eyes, 60 eyes, and 50 eyes, respectively, after microincision phacoemulsification cataract surgery. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), refraction in spherical equivalent, anterior chamber depth (ACD), total higher order aberration (HOA), contrast sensitivity, and surgically induced astigmatism (SIA) were measured and each IOL was evaluated on the functional stability, anterior-posterior stability, centration in the capsular bag, and quality of vision. Results: No statistical differences in preoperative and postoperative BCVA among the 3 IOL groups were observed, however, MI60 showed significant myopic shift postoperatively. Anterior-posterior stability assessed with postoperative change in refractive error and ACD was slightly lower in the MI60 group. In terms of vision quality, while total aberration, total HOA, coma aberration, and contrast sensitivity for the 3 IOLs were not different significantly, spherical aberration of the MI60 group was higher than the other groups at 6 months postoperative. SIA was significantly increased in eyes implanted with iSert than in eyes with iMics or MI60 at 1 month postoperatively, however, the differences were no longer evident after 3 months postoperatively. Conclusions: The new aspheric IOLs, iSert and iMics, showed good stability and visual outcome equal to MI60 at the 6-month postoperative follow-up.

        Recent reports have proposed that Ephedrae Herba may modulate the immune response on allergy or asthma. Human nasal mucosal fibroblasts are a rich source cytokines, inflammatory mediators, and chemokines. Chemokines are important for the recruitment of leukocytes to sites of infection, which is essential in host defense. Objectives : The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of Ephedrae Herba on the release of the chemokines such as monocyte chemotactic protein(MCP)-1, MCP-2, and MCP-3 in human nasal mucosal fibroblasts after stimulation with cytokines like tumor necrosis factor -α(TNF-α), interferon-γ(IFN-γ), and interleukin -1β(IL-1β).

        한성준의 한국 전통춤 사장 : 승무를 중심으로

        This paper aims to investigate the origin and movement of Buddhist dance, recognized as the most artistic one of Han sung Jun’s dances and from this draw the idea on Korean traditional dance. First, to summarize the idea on Buddhist dance, on the basis of his biography and historical background of his times, it is believed that the East would look upon the sky as the president of the universe and the origin of life as God; carry out the religious rituals as to natural phenomenon along with human beings. The spiritual thought during the ceremonies is certain to immanent in current Buddhist dance. Buddhist dance is also called “Bǔm-pae”, which means it has a close relationship with Buddhism. And his dance seems to be associated with Buddhism in a degree. The fact, however, that his dance ultimately has not any meaning in it, demonstrates Buddhist dance has the idea of emptiness, that is, “to stay at the quiet state without any mental affliction.” Second, the analysis of his dance shows that the principal motion of Buddhist dance is being represented as Pil-che, Hak-che and Goong-che. In other words, the stirring movement reveals that his dance certainly has a set pattern of points(Pil-che), lines(Hak-che) and circles(Goong-che); It is equivalent to the shape and spirit of the Endless(Mu-kǔk) and the Great Absolute(Tae-kǔk) in the eastern philosophy. Both of them are to result in ǔm-Yang and in this way, the idea of Takǔkǔmyang is obviously indwelling in Buddhist dance. 본 논문은 한국 전통춤의 맥을 이어 온 한성준의 승무를 대상으로 그 춤의 연원(淵源)과 춤사위의 구조(構造)룰 밝혀 춤의 실체인 한국 전통춤을 철학해 보고자 한 것으로 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째. 한성준 춤의 일대기를 바탕으로 그 시대적 배경에 따른 승우 춤 사상을 정리해 보면 동앙에서는 천(天)·신(神)에게 제사지내는 제천의식을 행해 왔는데 이때 행해지는 천신사상이 오늘날 승무 춤 속에 내재되어 있으며 또한 승무는 불교의식인 범패에서 기원 되어 성행된 것으로 볼 때 승무가 불교사상인 공사상(空思想) 깊은 연관이 있음을 알 수 있다. 둘째, 한성준 승무의 춤사위를 분석해 보면 승무 춤의 대표적인 춤사위가 필체(筆體), 학체(鶴體), 궁체(弓體)로 나타남을 알 수 있으며 이는 동양철학에 있어서 무극(無極)과 태극(太極)구조의 형상과 맥을 같이함을 알 수 있다. 무극과 태국은 곧 음양으로 귀결되며 따라서 승무 춤사위에는 태극음양사상(太極陰陽思想)이 내재되어 있음을 알 수 있다. 한국 전통춤은 익히 알다시피 악(惡), 가(歌), 무(舞)가 함께 어울려 시대의 흐름에 따라 한국인의 정서와 사고를 복합적으로 배태(胚胎)한 것이므로 한국 전통춤을 단순히 하나의 사상만으로 채울 수 없으므로 이상과 같은 결론은 한성준의 승무 춤에 내재되어 있는 한국춤 정신의 극히 일부분일 수 밖에 없다. 그럼에도 불구하고 승무 춤 속에 녹아있는 본질적 사상을 유추해 보고자 한 것은, 한국 전통춤의 대표적언 춤인 승무를 통해, 한국인의 정신인 춤 사상에 함축되어 있는 민족성을 도출해 낼 수 있는 바탕의 자료를 제시코자 한 것이다.
