        This paper traces Toni Morrison's thought about racism in her non-fiction stories, interviews and biographies. Morrison, the first Afro-American Nobel Prize winner, has written a lot of manuscripts. Therefore there have been a great number of criticisms about the themes of her works from various perspectives. But I believe one common theme of her works is racism. Afro-Americans in the past had experienced oppression which impacted their lives negatively and had remained traumatized. Even after their emancipation from slavery by law, they were not liberated in real life. Through her characters during the slavery period, or descendants of slaves in her works, Morrison reveals that slaves were taken advantage of as the Other to prove white people's superior identities and that the media have manipulated the public opinions against the Afro-Americans. Morrison also attempts to convey through her writings how ex-slaves have overcome their traumas and have rebuilt their forgotten history. Examining her non-fiction stories provides a good basis for analyzing Morrison's fictions. This ensures that her creative writings have been accomplished for the benefit of the whole mankind as well as the Afro-Americans. Key Words : Toni Morrison, racism, Afro-American, non-fiction

      • 구리와 철분말의 사출성형 및 소결

        The mixtures of Cu or Fe powders and microcrystalline wax as binder were extruded into the long wire by metal injection molding method and sintered after debinding at different conditions. In the case of coarse(33㎛) and irregular Cu powders, the mixture containing 50 vol% wax was suitable for the uniform mixing and forming when injected at 70℃. Binder in coarse Cu powder mixtures was removed at 300℃ for 10 hours. On the other hand, for the spherical and fine Fe powders(4㎛) 30 vol% wax was appropriate and 78% of wax was removed at 400℃ for 1 hour. The density of sintered Cu specimens reached up to 73% of full density when sintered at 1000℃ for 1 hour, but that of Fe specimens was observed to be as high as 97% when sintered at 1200℃ for 1 hour after the optimum debinding.

        중대산업사고 예방을 위한 종합위험관리체제(IRMS) 구축에 관한 연구

        The Process Safety Management (PSM) by the Law of Industry, Safety and Health has been performed for preventing major accidents of chemical plants since 1996. In terms of preventing chemical accidents more precisely, it is essential to develop a tool for quantitative risk assessment. For this, KOSHA (Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency) developed an Integrated Risk Management System (IRMS) . The system is designed to assimilate data on chemical plant hazards from external database, to integrate these data with location information (topographic and demographic), and to make them user-friendly accessible. The system consists of several main functions: display of five major Korean petrochemical complex layout, display of equipment layout with its information utilizing the external database, zonation of the hazard effected area with consequence analyses, the most probable accident scenario generation, accident/incident database and calculation of frequency of accident using equipment reliability database, etc. The highlight of IRMS is to provide the risk contours using GIS(Geographical Information System) technology. IRMS is intended to manage hazardous installation more systematically and effectively, to reduce the number of accident remarkably, further minimizing production loss in the plant. The system is now under application to about 500 PSM sites as well as and emergency authorities in Korea by KOSHA (Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency)

      • 좋은 예후를 보인 품행장애 환자에 대한 정신의학적 고찰

        The following results were gathered from the extensive research done on the conduct disorder of patients improving and relative conditions. 1. All were good students in elementary school and showed no disobedience. 2. The majority of them had many strong relationships and were very outgoing. 3. Their parents showed much affection toward them in their childhood. Also, they were either the youngest or the oldest in their families consisting of 2 or more. 4. Five out of the 6 patients belonged to upper-middle or just upper class parts of society. 5. Fathers occupied professional occupations and the mothers occupations were domestic housekeeping. 6. They all had parents who were both well educated. 7. The patients attitude toward their parents changed from assertiveness ot obedience and respectfullness. 8. The degree of educational interest by their parents was very high ; 4 out of 6 9. Parents attitudes toward their children changed from traditional to democracy. The family relationship situation was deterioration. Then overtime, the situation inproved dramatically. 10. Parents method of punishing children seems to have changed from the tendency of tough punishment and patients respectful attitude toward their parents has changed from assertive to obedient. 11. There was no history of mental disorders in the family. 12. Most patients had jobs or continued their studies. 13. Conduct disorders occurred in these patients in their late teens. 14. They have never been imprisoned or placed in a mental hospital before.

      • 加鹽 Butter의 貯藏溫度에 따른 化學的 變化에 관한 硏究

        This experiment was carried out to check acid value, saponification value, and iodine value for investigating the stability of salted butter while it was preserved in cold storage and frozen storage for eleven weeks. The results obtained were as follows; (1) The changes of acid value according to the storaging temperatures were slowly increased from 0.52 to 0.68 as the preserving time was passed, but there was remarkable significance between cold storage and frozen storage. (2) The changes of saponification value according to the storaging temperatures were increased remarkably from 13.6 to 33.0, but there was no significance (P>0.05) between cold storage and frozen storage.

      • 시클로펜틸아렌술포네이트 및 시클로헥실아렌술포네이트와 아닐린과의 친핵성치환반응

        The nucleophilic substitution reactions of cyclopentylarenesulfonates and cyclohexylarenesulfonates with anilines in acetonitrile at 65.0℃ are investigated. The cross-interaction constants ρxz(and βxz) between substitue-nts in the nucleophile(X) and leaving group(Z) are positive and have relatively small mmagnitude. The transition state(TS) variation is consistent with that predicted by the More O'Ferrall-Jencks diagram as expected from the positive ρxz. The small magnitude of ρxz correctly refrects a relatively loose TS structure in contrast to the tight TS for primary alkyl derivatives under similar reaction conditions.

        This dissertation examines Toni Morrison's Beloved from the perspective of postcolonialism. In America, slavery was prevalent, albeit the country was presenting itself as a democratic nation. A critic has evaluated America as an 'Internal Colonial' country. Afro-Americans experienced oppression which influenced their lives negatively and remained traumatically in their minds. Even after the liberation, they were freed not in real life but just by law. Through Beloved, Toni Morrison reveals a history of slavery. She understands slavery as being a crisis of subjectivity and community. She attempts to disrupt what is called 'the national amnesia', which prevented the ex-slaves from generating positive identity. This role of Morrison's through her novel is the same as postcolonial theorists'. Post-colonial theory, which has challenged the discourse of the white dominant colonizer, provides a good basis for the analysis of Beloved in which ex-slaves overcome trauma and rebuild their forgotten history. In Beloved, although the setting and scope of the novel is primarily slavery in the American South, Morrison wants to recover all facets of the slaves' story from Africa to America. Slave women were never able to be wives or mothers. Escape from the teacher and the killing of her daughter, is Sethe's means of emphatic rejection of slavery's power to circumscribe her motherhood. 18 years later, by Morrison's incarnating the past in the form of Beloved, the characters are enable to confront and remember their past in a manner in which it can be digested. Sethe is on the verge of new understanding that she, as well as her daughters, is a valuable human being. Sethe's process to find her real identity shows the way in which all blacks can escape their own trauma.

      • 한약수치에 관한 연구(제 9보) : 炒甘草 제법의 표준화 및 규격화(1) Preparing Standardization and Regulation of Stir-Frying Glycyrrhzia root(1)

        In this study, We carried out the preparing standardization and regulation of processed Glycyrrhizae Radix(PGR) which have been widely used in oriental medicines. Glycyrrhizae Radix(GR) have been generally prepared by the stir-frying, or mix-frying with honey for purpose of decreasing sweetness and augmenting vitality. Firstly, we tried to standardize PGR prepared by the stir-frying. We purchased 14 kinds of PGR and non-processed GR(NPGR) at oriental physician's offices and oriental pharmacies on a nation scale, respectively. The amounts of dry on loss, water extract, diluted ethanol extract, ether extract, total ash, acid insoluble ash, glycyrrhizin(GL), glycyrrhetic acid(GA) and liquiritin(LQ) of them were examined. The amounts of dray on loss, GL and LQ in commercial PGRs showed remarkable decrease, while GA showed increase as compared with NPGR. In order to standardize preparing method of PGR, the effect of heating time on physico-chemical parameters and biological activities were examined. Physico-chemical parameters such as dry on loss, extract amount, GL and LQ contents in PGRs showed decrease, however, GA was increased with heating time as compared with NPGR. Also, GA obtained form heat-treated GR, was found as an artifact in PGRs. PGR was more effective than NPGR in vitro test of DPPH scavenging effect and TBA-Rs reducing effect. PGR and NPGR showed potent hepatoprotective effect on CCl_(1)-intoxicated rats. Especially, PGR prepared by 80 min of heating was the most effective. Considering these results, the optimal condition for PGR preparation was 150℃ for 80min.

      • 흰쥐의 편도체와 중뇌 변연체계가 강화자의 처리에 미치는 영향

        본 연구에서는 편도체 손상과 아포모르핀 또는 할로페리들의 측핵내 주입이 수동회피과제의 습득에 어떤 효과가 있는 가를 알아보았다. 또한 편도체 손상에 의한 효과가 손상 후에 이들 약물의 측핵내 주입에 의해 변화되는 가를 알아 보았다. 72마리의 흰쥐를 편도체손상유무 (2) X 투여약물(3)에 따라 6집단에 각각 12마리씩을 할당하였다. 왕복상자를 이용한 단일시행 수동회피과제의 수행은 C언어로 작성한 프로그램에 의해 기록되었다. 편도체 손상은 수동회피과제의 수행에 결함을 초래했다. 할로페리들의 측핵내 주입은 수행을 저조하게 하였으나 편도체 손상의 효과를 변경시키지는 않았다. 아포모르핀의 주입은 수행에 아무 영향을 주지 않았다. 그러나 통계적으로 유의하지는 않았지만 편도체 손상의 효과를 어느 정도 경감시켰다. 이러한 결과는 편도체가 부적강화의 처리에 관여하고 있음을 보여주는 것이다. 또한 편도체로부터의 입력이 측핵 도파민에 의해 조절되고 있음을 부분적으로 지지해준다. This study examined the effects of (1)amygdaloid lesion, (2)dopamine agonist injections and antagonist injections into the nucleus accumbens, and (3)these injection treatments after amygdaloid lesion on acquisition of passive avoidance task. Seventy two rats were assigned to six groups: (1)apomorphin injected, (2)haloperidol injected, (3)saline injected, (4)amygdala lesioned and apomorphin injected, (5)amygdala lesioned and haloperidol injected, (6)amygdala lesioned and saline injected. Performances of one-trial passive avoidance task using shuttle box were recorded by program made of C language. It was found that amygdaloid lesion impaired passive avoidance learning. Haloperidol injections into the nucleus accumbens impaired the performance but did not alter the effect of amygdaloid lesion. Apomorphin injections into the nucleus accumbens had no effect on the performance but it altered the effect of amygdaloid lesion. These results showed that amygdala is involved in the processing of negative reinforcer which is withdrawl of aversive stimulus. And it was partly supported that the input from amygdala was modulated by dopamin in nucleus accumbens.

      • 석이에서 분리한 GE974의 α-Glucosidase 저해효과

        This study was conducted to search for the α-glucosidase inhibitor from the natural products. In the previous study, the water extract of Gyrophora esculenta exhibited a potent inhibitory effect on α-glucosidase activities. Then, by bioassay-guided fractionation followed by chromatographic seperation of the water extract of Gyrophora esculenta, α-glucosidase inhibitor was isolated as GE974. GE974 showed significant inhibitory activities on some kinds of α-glucosidases in vitro. Its inhibitory mechanism seemed to be competitive for disaccharides. Also, it markedly inhibited α-glucosidases of intestine separated from both nondiabetics and diabetics.
