        Providing thermal comfort is a main goal of heating, ventilating and air conditioning(HVAC), and affects productivity of occupants in office building. However, temperature control can not provide the thermal comfort at all the time. This is because thermal comfort is influenced by many environmental variables such as temperature, relative humidity, air velocity, radiation temperature, activity level and clothing insulation. In this study, Fanger's predicted mean vote(PMV) index is used as controlling feedback. And, Thermal comfort is evaluated both PMV controlled space and temperature controlled space by simulation. In the simulation, several cases were compared, in which set-point temperatures of 24℃ and 26℃ and, set-point PMV index of +0.5 through the one day of summer season, respectively. The results show that PMV controlled space is more likely to maintain comfort state and save energy than temperature controlled space.

        The Analysis of Characteristics in Dry and Wet Environments of Silicon Nanowire-Biosensor

        <P>Our study investigates differences in sensitivity of dry and wet environment in the field of biosensing experiment in detail and depth. The sensitivity of biosensing varies by means of surrounding conditions of silicon nanowire field effect transistor (SiNW FET). By examining charged polymer reaction in the silicon nanowire transistor (SiNW), we have discovered that the threshold voltage (V-T) shift and change of subthreshold slope (SS) in wet environment are smaller than that of the air. Furthermore, we analyzed the sensitivity through modifying electrolyte concentration in the wet condition, and confirmed that V-T shift increases in low concentration condition of phosphate buffered saline (PBS) due to the Debye length. We believe that the results we have found in this study would be the cornerstone in contributing to advanced biosensing experiment in the future.</P>

        Pt-Catalyzed Growth of Amorphous SiOx Nanowires

        We have fabricated SiO$_x$ nanowires on a large scale through a Pt-catalyzed process. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) investigation revealed that the nanowires had diameters in the range of 30 $\sim$ 130 nm. X-ray diffraction (XRD), selected area electron diffraction (SAED), and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) analyses indicated that the nanowires were amorphous and consisted only of Si and O elements. The growth of the SiO$_x$ nanowires was most likely controlled by the base-growth mechanism with the assistance of the underlying Pt layer. The room-temperature PL spectrum measurement showed a broad emission band, peaking around 3.0 eV. This simple heating method, with the effectiveness of the Pt catalyst, can be applied to a wide range of substrate materials, which may contribute to producing various useful nanostructures.

      • Prevalence and Distribution of Human Papillomavirus Genotypes in Old age women

        Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is considered to play an important role in the development of cervical cancer and it`s precursor. HPV genotype distribution varies with severity of cervical disease, patient demographics such as age, as well as geographic distribution. However, type-specific prevalence of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) positivity among old age women in Korea remains unclear. Women who referred to the Chonnam National University hospital for abnormal result at pap smear from local hospital or who visited CNUH for screening or routine follow up were enrolled. Total 10,014 specimens (1,603 aged 57-89 and 8,411 aged 19-56) obtained by cervical scraping between May 2000 and February 2009. The liquid-based cytology and colposcopic biopsy were analyzed, and HPV DNA chip test was used for analyzing HPV genotyping. The HPV DNA chip test harbor 24 HPV probes. Among older women (aged over 57), total 44.2% (n=708) were infected by high risk HPV in cervix. The most common cervical infected HPV-high risk genotype in cervix was 16(21.9%, n=155) and the other common types were 58(17.7%, n=125), 53(7.2%, n=51), 18(6.2%, n=44), 31(6.2%, n=44), in that order. 20.2% had multiple type infection. HPV16,58,53,18 infection were prevalent among both aged under 57years old and over 57 years old. In cervix cancer, HPV16 also detected most frequently, and HPV18 is more prevalent than HPV58 in cervix cancer, whereas HPV58 prevails than HPV18 in other cervical lesion or in normal cytology in both two age groups. There were no significant differences in the prevalence and distribution of HPV genotypes in old age women compared to the younger women.

        노인전문요양시설에서 발생한 옴 유행 역학조사

          Objectives: To investigate an outbreak of scabies that occurred in geriatricfacilities located in Kyounggi-province, Korea, between September 2004 and September 2005.   Methods: We carried out an epidemiologic investigation on the scabies outbreak. All workers except two were interviewed and the charts of the patients were reviewed.   Results: Among workers, the attack rate was 58.6% (17/29). The rate was 86.0%(37/43) in patients. Secondary cases also occurred among the family members of workers, with a secondary attack rate of 15.8%. The 95% confidence interval was 6o/~31.3%. The transmission of scabies began from one index case who had scabies and moved from another facility. She was hospitalized on the 4th floor of this facilitywhere dependent patients resided. After the activities (picnic and yard sale) in May 2005, and the ward rotation of care givers between the 3rd and 4th floor in July 2005, the incidence of scabies increased. The last cases occurred in Sep. 2005.   Conclusions: This outbreak investigation has importance because it is the first report of ascabies outbreak in geriatric long-tenn care facilities in Korea. Recently, the reports on a scabies epidemic are increasing "With the augmentation of geriatric long-tenn care facilities.   It is important to educate and inform workers and staff in long-tenn care facilities about scabies and other contagious skin diseases. More facilities for senility and dementia "Will be opened and we need to lookinto contagious diseases in long-term care facilities.

        Quality Changes During Storage of Cook-chilled Soybean Sprouts

        Sous vide and packaged cook-chilled soybean sprouts were evaluated for physicochemical quality changes and microbial safety during storage for the purposes of shelf-life extension and industrial application. The physicochemical changes assessed were color, texture, and ascorbic acid concentration. The quality of soybean sprouts became worse with increased periods of storage and better in storage temperature of 3℃ more than in 10℃. The concentration of aerobic bacteria decreased from 2.1×10<sup>8</sup> to 6.0×10<sup>2</sup> CFU/g after pasteurization, but increased during storage. These bacteria are the same shape as anaerobic and psychrophilic bacteria, but none of these other organisms were detected after heat treatment. The physicochemical qualities of soybean sprouts and microbial safety were better for products stored at 3℃ than at 10℃. In the case of short storage periods, heat treatment at 70℃ for 2 min was most effective for quality and microbial safety.

        The effect of bacterial cellulose membrane compared with collagen membrane on guided bone regeneration

        PURPOSE. This study was to evaluate the effects of bacterial cellulose (BC) membranes as a barrier membrane on guided bone regeneration (GBR) in comparison with those of the resorbable collagen membranes. MATERIALS AND METHODS. BC membranes were fabricated using biomimetic technology. Surface properties were analyzed, Mechanical properties were measured, in vitro cell proliferation test were performed with NIH3T3 cells and in vivo study were performed with rat calvarial defect and histomorphometric analysis was done. The Mann-Whitney U test and the Wilcoxon signed rank test was used (α<.05). RESULTS. BC membrane showed significantly higher mechanical properties such as wet tensile strength than collagen membrane and represented a three-dimensional multilayered structure cross-linked by nano-fibers with 60 % porosity. In vitro study, cell adhesion and proliferation were observed on BC membrane. However, morphology of the cells was found to be less differentiated, and the cell proliferation rate was lower than those of the cells on collagen membrane. In vivo study, the grafted BC membrane did not induce inflammatory response, and maintained adequate space for bone regeneration. An amount of new bone formation in defect region loaded with BC membrane was significantly similar to that of collagen membrane application. CONCLUSION. BC membrane has potential to be used as a barrier membrane, and efficacy of the membrane on GBR is comparable to that of collagen membrane.

      • Therapeutic responses and prognosis in adult-onset Still's disease.

        <P>To date, the treatment of adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD) has been largely empirical; therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the response to therapy and prognostic factors of AOSD. Fifty-four Korean patients with AOSD were enrolled based on Yamaguchi's criteria. We retrospectively analyzed the treatments and prognosis. Thirty-nine patients (72.2%) were female, and the average age at disease onset was 37.3 years. Twenty-nine patients had a monocyclic disease (53.7%), five had a polycyclic (9.3%) and fifteen had a chronic articular disease (27.7%) and five died (9.3%). The elevated ESR and corticosteroids refractoriness were associated with poor prognosis (P = 0.023 and P = 0.009, respectively). The patients that died were older than those survived (49.2 ± 11.8 vs. 42.2 ± 14 year old, P = 0.024). Forty-two patients were treated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs; however, they also needed corticosteroids and intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG). Among 50 patients treated with high-dose corticosteroids, 21 patients (42%) were resistant to corticosteroids and treated with IVIG or anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF) agents. Of the 23 patients medicated with IVIG, the prognosis was better in IVIG-responsive patients, indicating a therapeutic effect. Methotrexate was the most commonly used disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (27 patients, 50%), and the corticosteroid requirements were lower in the methotrexate-responsive patients. Approximately half of AOSD patients had a poor prognosis and were corticosteroids resistance. An elevated ESR and non-response to corticosteroids were associated with poor prognosis. Patients who died were older than those survived.</P>
