        심향미,정승희 성인간호학회 2001 성인간호학회지 Vol.13 No.4

This study was to observe the effects of music therapy on the cognitive function, behavior, and emotions of elderly dementia patients, and to seek musical mediation for them. This study was conducted with patients in the Dementia Sanitarium in C City from March 13 to April 17. Method: The design of research was a nonequivalent control group non-synchronized design and the subjects were 25 patients-15 of whom were in the experimental group with 10 in the control group. The music therapy consisted of favorite music listening in the morning, favorite music group singing activity after lunch, and relaxing music listening after dinner. The schedule was followed 6 days a week for 2 weeks for a total of thirty-six session. The effect of music therapy was measured by MMSE-K and the behavior and emotion measuring equipment which had been derived by the researcher. The verification of the effects is that the score of cognitive function, behavior, and emotions of the experimental and the control group which were measured after the therapy had been applied was analyzed by descriptive statistics and t - test using SPSS WIN program. Result: 1) The degree of cognitive function of the experimental group which was received the music therapy is 11.53±5.37 which is a little higher than the control group which is 11.20±6.32, but it is not significant statistically (t= 14, p= .887). The first hypothesis which had assumed the recepients would have had a higher cognitive function level than the other was rejected. 2) Behavior score of the experimental group that received the music therapy is 68.90±7.86 which is higher than the control group which is 66.40±11.13, but it is not significant statistically(t= .61. p= .548). The second hypothesis which had assumed the recepients would have had a higher behavior level than the other was rejected. 3) Emotions score of the experimental group that received the music therapy is 42.13±5.04 which is higher than the control group which is 35.20±6.12, and it is significant statistically(t=3..09. p= .009). The third hypothesis which assumed the recepients would have had a higher emotion level was supported. Conclusion: music therapy which is composed of listening to music and group singing activity is an effective strategy for improvement of the emotions of the dementia elderly. But, the effect of music therapy on the cognitive function and behavior of elderly dementia patients is not significant statistically.

        심향보(Sim Hyang-Bo),송우엽(Song Woo-Yeob),김효찬(Kim Hyo-chan) 한국체육과학회 2003 한국체육과학회지 Vol.12 No.2

This study aims to survey stress among both male and female field hockey players, and the coping methods that they use. In this way the study aims to provide basic data that will contribute to the enhancement of their performance. The case studies are 131 players from Korea's business and college teams. All teams are registered with the Korea Field Hockey Association. The survey makes use of the Stress Situation Questionnaire, which was developed in 1996 by Io Chang-nam, A simple frequency analysis was carried out to discover the research object. A subsequent independent t-test was carried out to determine the difference between sexes where the causes of stress and methods of relief were concerned. The meaningful level for all statistical figures are set on p<.05. The result of this study is as follows: First, factors that caused stress situation among male hockey players included the match result (the most important), followed by exercise, interpersonal relationships, stress during the match, leisure, stress during training, socializing, and stress before the match begins. The list is in descending order. For female hockey players, the most important stress situation was exercise, followed by match results, leisure, interpersonal relationships, stress during training, stress during the match and before match, and socializing. The list is likewise in descending order. In comparing the difference in stress situations between male and female hockey players, it was discovered that the following situation: before the match, during leisure activities, and during training, there was a statistically meaningful difference (p<.05) between male and female players. It was also discovered that the most important stress relieving method among male hockey players was examination of its causes. This is followed by compensation, engaging in hobbies, avoidance, and having conversations, in descending order. Among female hockey players, the most important method in relieving stress was discovered to be also an examination of its causes, engaging in hobbies, avoidance, compensation, and having conversation, in descending order. Lastly, when having hobbies and compensation methods (as stress coping methods) were compared between male and female hockey players, it was discovered that there was a statistically meaningful difference (p<.05) between them.

        심향보(Sim Hyang-Bo) 한국체육과학회 2008 한국체육과학회지 Vol.17 No.2

Although many modern people nowadays are believed to be active in physical exercise, there is still evidence that the percentage of those active in physical exercise is very low, especially amongst college students. The purpose of this research was to compare the mental health of female college students and their level of participation in physical exercise. The subjects for this research were 587 female college students currently matriculating at H,S Women's College in Sojae, Seoul. Out of 587 students, 307 of them were active in physical exercise and 280 of them did not participate in physical exercise. The factors that were used to analyse the level of participation in physical exercise were frequency of participation, time, and duration. The SCL-90-R was used to compare the mental health of the subjects and the gathered information was analyzed using the t-test and one-way ANOVA, with their results verified through Scheffe. All the statistical results were verified at the significant level of .05. Firstly, the results show that in regards to the level of physical exercise for female students, there is a statistically significant difference in nine symptoms of mental health, which are interpersonal sensitivity, depression. anxiety, hostility, phobic anxiety, paranoia, and psychoticism. Secondly, in regards to the frequency of physical exercise, there was a statistically significant difference amongst the factors of somatization, obsessive compulsive disorder, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety, hostility, paranoia, and psychoticism. Thirdly, in regards to the time of physical exercise, there was a significant difference amongst the factor of somatization. As for exercise duration, there was a signification difference in the factors of obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, anxiety, and phobic anxiety.

Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay Using Glycoprotein and Monoclonal Antibody for Detecting Antibodies to Vesicular Stomatitis Virus Serotype New Jersey

        Lee, Hyang-Sim,Heo, Eun-Jeong,Jeoung, Hye-Young,Ko, Hyo-Rim,Kweon, Chang-Hee,Youn, Hee-Jeong,Ko, Young-Joon American Society for Microbiology 2009 CLINICAL AND VACCINE IMMUNOLOGY Vol.16 No.5

<B>ABSTRACT</B><P>In this study, an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using glycoprotein and a monoclonal antibody (MAb) was developed for the detection of antibodies to vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) serotype New Jersey (NJ). The glycoprotein to be used as a diagnostic antigen was extracted from partially purified VSV-NJ, and a neutralizing MAb specific to VSV-NJ was incorporated to compete with antibodies in a blocking ELISA using glycoprotein (GP ELISA). The cutoff of the GP ELISA was set at 40% inhibition, which corresponded to a virus neutralization test (VNT) titer of 32. With this threshold, the GP ELISA exhibited 99.6% specificity for naïve sera (<I>n</I> = 3,005) from cattle (<I>n</I> = 1,040), pigs (<I>n</I> = 1,120), and horses (<I>n</I> = 845) from domestic farms. The GP ELISA did not cross-react with sera positive for foot-and-mouth disease virus, swine vesicular disease virus, or VSV serotype Indiana. The GP ELISA was more compatible with the VNT than was the nucleocapsid-based ELISA for VSV-NJ-positive sera (<I>n</I> = 19). Taken together, this GP ELISA could be a useful tool as an alternative to the VNT for detecting antibodies specific to VSV-NJ.</P>

Multiplex polymerase chain reaction assays for the detection of the zearalenone chemotype of <i>Fusarium</i> species in white and brown rice

Sim, Jae Ho,Tian, Fei,Jung, Soo Yeon,Auh, Joong-Hyuck,Chun, Hyang Sook Elsevier 2018 International journal of food microbiology Vol.269 No.-

<P>Early detection of the zearalenone (ZEA) chemotype of Fusarium species could be a precautionary measure for preventing ZEA contamination in rice. In this study, a multiplex polymerase chain reaction (mPCR) assay for detecting ZEA-producing fungi in rice was established using a set of four primers targeting the ZEA biosynthesis genes PKS3, PKS13, ZEB1, and ZEB2. Two mPCR approaches were used: one that amplified the DNA obtained from Fusarium isolates (conventional method) and another that directly amplified the target DNA from rice samples without time-consuming DNA isolation (direct method). The two mPCR methods showed high sensitivity in detecting ZEA-producing species, with a detection limit of 1.25 pg/mu L. of genomic DNA and 102 and 103 spores/g of white and brown rice, respectively. Both methods were specific for ZEA-producing species and gave four band patterns. The application of the two mPCR methods to 51 Fusarium isolates and 41 rice samples revealed that 31% (16 of 51) and 24% (10 of 41) of the samples were contaminated with ZEA-producing species, respectively. The mPCR results were further evaluated using high-performance liquid chromatography; in general, the two methods yielded similar results. These findings indicate that both mPCR methods are suitable for the detection of ZEA-producing Fusarium species in white and brown rice; however, the direct method yielded more rapid results.</P>

만성 정신질환자 가족의 우울증상 및 관련 요인 조사

        심민영,임선진,김진훈,권오향,조성진,김석주,김계현,이병학,한덕현 大韓神經精神醫學會 2008 신경정신의학 Vol.47 No.4

Objectives : It has been reported that caregivers of patients with chronic mental illness including schizophrenia are in higher risk for psychological and physical health problem. This study was performed to evaluate the depressive symptoms and associated factors in caregivers of patients with chronic mental illness. Methods : The subjects were 77 unaffected caregivers (30 parents, 30 siblings, 10 offspring, and 7 spouses) of patients with chronic mental illness (62 schizophrenia, 4 schizoaffective disorder, 11 bipolar disorder) and 100 healthy controls. Depressed mood was assessed by Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) in all subjects. For their sick family members, clinical factors including psychotic symptoms using the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), duration of illness, number of admission were assessed. Results : The mean BDI score of the caregivers was significantly higher than that of control subjects (11.2±11.6 and 8.0±17.5). Given that 23.4% of family group and 23.0% of control group are attributed to mild to moderate depressed state and 22.0% of family group and 8.0% of control group to above moderate depressed state, significant depressive symptom is more frequently observed in family group. The mean BDI score of parent group was higher than that of sibling group controlling for sex and age. In the parent group, BDI scores are positively correlated with age while the offspring and spouse group had negative correlation between BDI scores and age. Higher age, lower socioeconomic state, more severe positive symptom scores of patients were potential predictors for BDI scores of caregivers. Conclusion : This study showed that caregivers of patients with chronic mental illness have significant depressive symptoms. It may be suggested that depressive symptoms of caregivers are associated with aging, low socioeconomic state, and severe positive symptom rather than chronicity of their sick family members.
