Efficiency Enhanced Super Resolution Generative Adversarial Network via Advanced Knowledge Distillati

        Hussain,신정훈,Syed Asif Raza Shah,조금원 한국멀티미디어학회 2023 멀티미디어학회논문지 Vol.26 No.12

Super-resolution (SR) stands as a prominent challenge in computer vision with diverse applications. Generative adversarial networks (GANs) yield impressive SR outcomes by restoring high-quality images from low-resolution input. However, GAN-based SR (particularly generators) have high memory demands, leading to performance degradation and energy consumption, making them unsuitable for resource-limited devices. Addressing this concern, our paper introduces a novel and efficient SR-GAN (generator) model architecture by strategically leveraging knowledge distillation, which results in reducing storage demands by 58% while enhancing performance. Our approach involves extracting feature maps from a resourceintensive model to design a lightweight model with minimal computational and memory requirements. Experiments across several benchmarks demonstrate that the proposed compressed model outperforms existing knowledge distillation-based techniques, particularly in regard to SSIM, PSNR, and overall image quality in x4 super-resolution tasks. In the future, this compressed model will be implemented and benchmarked with existing models in resource-limited devices such as tablet and wearing devices.

A Secure and Privacy-Aware Route Tracing and Revocation Mechanism in VANET-based Clouds

        Rasheed Hussain(후세인 라쉬드),Heekuck Oh(오희국) 한국정보보호학회 2014 정보보호학회논문지 Vol.24 No.5

Vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANET) has gone through a rich amount of research and currently is making its way towards the deployment. However, surprisingly it evolved to rather more applications and services-rich breed referred to as VANET-based clouds due to the advancements in the automobile and communication technologies. Security and privacy have always been the challenges for the think tanks to deploy this technology on mass scale. It is even worse that some security issues are orthogonally related to each other such as privacy, revocation and route tracing. In this paper, we aim at a specific VANET-based clouds framework proposed by Hussain et al. namely VANET using Clouds (VuC) where VANET and cloud infrastructure cooperate with each other in order to provide VANET users (more precisely subscribers) with services. We specifically target the aforementioned conflicted privacy, route tracing, and revocation problem in VANET-based clouds environment. We propose a multiple pseudonymous approach for privacy reasons and leverage the beacons stored in the cloud infrastructure for both route tracing and revocation. In the proposed scheme, revocation authorities after colluding, can trace the path taken by the target node for a specified timespan and can also revoke the identity if needed. Our proposed scheme is secure, conditional privacy preserved, and is computationally less expensive than the previously proposed schemes.

VISUALIZATION OF 3D DATA PRESERVING CONVEXITY

Hussain, Malik Zawwar,Hussain, Maria 한국전산응용수학회 2007 Journal of applied mathematics & informatics Vol.23 No.1

Visualization of 2D and 3D data, which arises from some scientific phenomena, physical model or mathematical formula, in the form of curve or surface view is one of the important topics in Computer Graphics. The problem gets critically important when data possesses some inherent shape feature. For example, it may have positive feature in one instance and monotone in the other. This paper is concerned with the solution of similar problems when data has convex shape and its visualization is required to have similar inherent features to that of data. A rational cubic function [5] has been used for the review of visualization of 2D data. After that it has been generalized for the visualization of 3D data. Moreover, simple sufficient constraints are made on the free parameters in the description of rational bicubic functions to visualize the 3D convex data in the view of convex surfaces.

Disadvantage, discrimination, and despair: Parental experiences of caring for children with disability in Bangladesh

Hussain Muhammed Muazzam,Raihan Mohammad Mojammel Hussain 한국사회복지학회 2022 Asian Social Work and Policy Review Vol.16 No.1

This paper explored parental experiences of caring for children with disability (CWD) living in the Sylhet city corporation area of Bangladesh. This study applied a qualitative research approach. The purposive snowball sampling method was employed to recruit study participants. Twenty-one in-depth interviews and two focus group discussions with parents of children with physical, hearing, vision, and intellectual disabilities were conducted to learn more about their experiences and identify the difficulties and challenges they confront in their everyday lives. The results showed that respondents experience various disadvantages, for example, treatment-related challenges, financial incapacity, housing, and transportation issues. The study also indicates that parents are subjected to discrimination, experience stress, and tension, and become depressed when they consider the future distressing condition of CWD after their death. Poverty, the societal stigma associated with disability, and a lack of social supports exacerbate parents' mental anguish and limit their ability to care for CWD patients. Therefore, it is recommended to develop new services delivery strategy, including home care, respite care, and monetary transfers for CWD caregivers, as well as community mobilization and inter-professional collaboration, to enhance their current situation and overall well-being.

Production of Hydrogen and Carbon Nanotubes from Catalytic Decomposition of Methane over Ni:Cu/Alumina Modified Supported Catalysts

        Hussain, Tajammul,Mazhar, Mohammed,Iqbal, Sarwat,Gul, Sheraz,Hussain, Muzammil,Larachi, Faical Korean Chemical Society 2007 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.28 No.7

Hydrogen gas and carbon nanotubes along with nanocarbon were produced from commercial natural gas using fixed bed catalyst reactor system. The maximum amount of carbon (491 g/g of catalyst) formation was achieved on 25% Ni, 3% Cu supported catalyst without formation of CO/CO2. Pure carbon nanotubes with length of 308 nm having balloon and horn type shapes were also formed at 673 K. Three sets of catalysts were prepared by varying the concentration of Ni in the first set, Cu concentration in the second set and doping with K in the third set to investigate the effect on stabilization of the catalyst and production of carbon nanotubes and hydrogen by copper and potassium doping. Particle size analysis revealed that most of the catalyst particles are in the range of 20-35 nm. All the catalysts were characterized using powder XRD, SEM/EDX, TPR, CHN, BET and CO-chemisorption. These studies indicate that surface geometry is modified electronically with the formation of different Ni, Cu and K phases, consequently, increasing the surface reactivity of the catalyst and in turn the Carbon nanotubes/H2 production. The addition of Cu and K enhances the catalyst dispersion with the increase in Ni loadings and maximum dispersion is achieved on 25% Ni: 3% Cu/Al catalyst. Clearly, the effect of particle size coupled with specific surface geometry on the production of hydrogen gas and carbon nanotubes prevails. Addition of K increases the catalyst stability with decrease in carbon formation, due to its interaction with Cu and Ni, masking Ni and Ni:Cu active sites.

      • Combined application of biochar, compost, and bacterial consortia with Italian ryegrass enhanced phytoremediation of petroleum hydrocarbon contaminated soil

        Hussain, Fida,Hussain, Imran,Khan, Aqib Hassan Ali,Muhammad, Yousaf Shad,Iqbal, Mazhar,Soja, Gerhard,Reichenauer, Thomas Gerhard,Zeshan, Thomas Gerhard,Yousaf, Sohail Elsevier 2018 Environmental and experimental botany Vol.153 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Petroleum hydrocarbons are extensively utilized in petrochemical industries and cause soil deterioration during exploration, transportation, refining and making petroleum products. We hypothesized that the combined use of compost, biochar and bacterial consortia as soil amendments may enhance the rhizoremediation potential of ryegrass by strengthening the plant rhizospheric effect for efficient total petroleum hydrocarbon removal. The present study focused on phytoremediation of hydrocarbons in spiked contaminated soil amended with biochar (5% v/v), and compost (5% v/v). Spiked soil was inoculated with consortia of four hydrocarbon degrading bacterial strains (<I>Pseudomonas poae, Actinobacter bouvetii, Stenotrophomonas rhizophila</I> and <I>Pseudomonas rhizosphaerae</I>). The spiked soil was prepared by spiking agricultural soil with 3.4% (w/w) of crude oil. Italian ryegrass (60 seeds pot−1) were sown and plants were harvested after 75 days.</P> <P>The highest hydrocarbon removal (85%) was observed in spiked soil amended with compost, biochar and consortia. Bacterial inoculation with biochar and compost showed significantly higher hydrocarbon degradation as compared to all other treatments. Highest TPHs degrading bacteria (5.74 × 107 cells g−1 of soil) were observed in rhizosphere of spiked soil amended with compost, biochar and consortia. The organic amendments improved plant growth and bacterial count in rhizosphere which resulted in higher removal of hydrocarbons. We concluded that plant-microbe interactions together with the organic soil amendments offer an emerging trend for remediation of hydrocarbons. Rhizoremediation is a green solution to overcome the quandary of total petroleum hydrocarbon contamination in soil.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Biochar and compost amendment enhanced rhizosphere effect. </LI> <LI> TPHs Rhizoremediation is improved by bacterial consortia and organic amendments. </LI> <LI> The organic amendments improved plant growth and bacterial count in rhizosphere. </LI> <LI> Compost is a rich source of bacteria in the rhizosphere. </LI> </UL> </P>

Optimization analysis of the absorption-stabilization process for fluid catalytic cracking unit

        Hussain Muhammad Saddam,Ahmed Ashfaq,Yibin Liu,Amin Muhammad Nadeem,Zahoor Tahir,Saleem Muhammad Afnan,Roh Kosan,Hussain Murid,Abu Bakar Muhammad Saifullah,박영권 한국화학공학회 2023 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.40 No.7

The absorption-stabilization process (ASP), an important part of petroleum refinery used in the end-use products of petroleum (such as stable gasoline, liquid petroleum gas, and dry gas), is energy-intensive and has low product quality. Aspen Plus process simulator was used for the development of the ASP process model. The developed process model was validated with the actual plant data. The validated model was used to optimize to minimize the cost of the ASP. This work shows that the optimization analysis of the ASP can further improve the product quality and reduce thermal energy consumption. In the new process, changing feeding parameters of supplementary absorption oil, stripping tower intermediate reboiler, and feeding position of stabilization tower reduced the C3 contents of dry gas considerably and lowered the C2 and lighter contents of LPG. Additionally, the new process saved 1.32 MW of thermal energy consumption compared with the existing process. The operating cost has been reduced from 10.921 million USD annually to 9.830 million USD per year. Furthermore, the cost-saving effect of this optimization is about 9.99% (1.091 million USD per year).

Sonochemical Synthesis, Thermal Studies and X-ray Structure of Precursor [Zr(acac)3(H2O)2]Cl for Deposition of Thin Film of ZrO2 by Ultrasonic Aerosol Assisted Chemical Vapour Deposition

Hussain, Muzammil,Mazhar, Muhammad,Rauf, Muhammad Khawar,Ebihara, Masahiro,Hussain, Tajammal Korean Chemical Society 2009 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.30 No.1

A new precursor [$Zr(acac)_{3}(H_{2}O)_{2}$] was synthesized by Sonochemical technique and used to deposit thin $ZrO_{2}$ film on quartz and ceramic substrate via ultrasonic aerosol assisted chemical vapour deposition (UAACVD) at 300 ${^{\circ}C}$ in oxygen environment followed by annealing of the sample for 2-3 minutes at 500 ${^{\circ}C}$ in nitrogen ambient. The molecular structure of the precursor determined by single crystal X-ray analysis revealed that the molecules are linked through intermolecular hydrogen bonds forming pseudo six and eight membered rings. DSC and TGA/FTIR techniques were used to determine thermal behavior and decomposition temperature of the precursor and nature of evolved gas products. The optical measurement of annealed $ZrO_{2}$ film with tetragonal phase shows optical energy band gap of 5.01 eV. The particle size, morphology, surface structure and composition of deposited films were investigated by XRD, SEM and EDX.

Effect of crosslinker feed content on catalaytic activity of silver nanoparticles fabricated in multiresponsive microgels

        Zahoor Hussain Farooqi,Shanza Rauf Khan,Tajamal Hussain,Robina Begum,Kiran Ejaz,Shumaila Majeed,Muhammad Ajmal,Farah Kanwal,Mohammad Siddiq 한국화학공학회 2014 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.31 No.9

We investigated the effect of crosslinking density of poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide-co-acrylic acid) micro-gels on catalytic activity of silver nanoparticles fabricated hybrid microgels. Multiresponsive poly(N-isopropyl acryla-mide-co-acrylic acid) microgels with 2, 4, 6 and 8 mole percentage of N,N-methylene-bis-acrylamide were synthesizedby emulsion polymerization. These microgels were characterized by dynamic light scattering and were used as mi-croreactors to synthesize silver nanoparticles. Hybrid system was characterized by ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. Thecatalytic activity of hybrid microgels with different crosslinker content was compared by studying the reduction of p-nitrophenol as a model reaction. Kinetics of reaction was monitored by spectrophotometry. The value of the apparentrate constant decreases from 0.568 to 0.313 min−1, when content of crosslinker are increased from 2 to 8 mole percent-age respectively. This decreases in value of apparent rate constant is due to increase in diffusional barrier offered byhigh crosslinking of polymer network at high mole percentages of N,N-methylene-bis-acrylamide.
