      • Resident`s Recognition of Forest Resource and User`s Attributes: Influence of Participation Modes in Resource Management

        ( Hurng Jyuhn Wang ),( Weerapon Thongma ) 한국EU학회 2014 Asia-Pacific Journal of EU Studies Vol.12 No.2

A number of academic articles conclude that public participation is important to forest management. In a local forest plan, resident participation could be a process of information collection and facilitate communication through better information. The purpose of this study is to analyze empirically and quantitatively the degree of community participation that affects resident recognition of resource and user attributes. The degree of community participation was specified by five participatory indicators. A modified framework of Poteete and Ostrom was employed. The results showed that most attributes of the user were significantly affected by various modes of resident participation as well as degree of participation. The higher participation levels have higher agreement towards attributes of the user. However, we observed that the recognition of the feasible improvement of the resource is most understood by the community residents and is not significant to the levels of participation.

Voltage Equalizing of Solar Modules for Shadowing Compensation

        Hurng-Liahng Jou,Kuen-Der Wu,Jinn-Chang Wu,Cheng-Huan Chung,Ding-Feng Huang 전력전자학회 2017 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.17 No.2

This paper proposes a shadowing compensation method for the solar modules of grid-connected photovoltaic generation systems. The shadowing compensator (SC) implemented by the proposed shadowing compensation method is used only for the solar modules that can be shaded by predictable sources of shading. The proposed SC can simplify both the power circuit and the control circuit as well as improve power efficiency and utilizes a voltage equalizer configured by a modified multi-winding fly-back converter. The proposed SC harvests energy from the entire solar cell array to compensate for the shaded sub-modules of the solar cell array, producing near-identical voltages of all shaded and un-shaded sub-modules in the solar cell array. This setup prevents the formation of multiple peaks in the P–V curve under shaded conditions. Hardware prototypes are developed for the SCs implemented by the conventional and modified multi-winding fly-back converters, and their performance is verified through testing. The experimental results show that both SCs can overcome the multiple peaks in the P–V curve. The proposed SC is superior to the SC implemented by the conventional multi-winding fly-back converter.

New Single-Phase Power Converter Topology for Frequency Changing of AC Voltage

        Hurng-Liahng Jou,Jinn-Chang Wu,Kuen-Der Wu,Ting-Feng Huang,Szu-Hsiang Wei 전력전자학회 2018 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.18 No.3

This paper proposes a new single-phase power converter topology for changing the frequency of AC voltage. The proposed single-phase frequency converter (SFC) includes a T-type multi-level power converter (TMPC), a frequency decoupling transformer (FDT) and a digital signal processor (DSP). The TMPC can convert a 60 Hz AC voltage to a DC voltage and then convert the DC voltage to a 50 Hz AC voltage. Therefore, the output currents of the two T-type power switch arms have 50 Hz and 60 Hz components. The FDT is used to decouple the 50 Hz and 60 Hz components. The salient feature of the proposed SFC is that only one power electronic converter stage is used since the functions of the AC-DC and DC-AC power conversions are integrated into the TMPC. Therefore, the proposed SFC can simplify both the power circuit and the control circuit. In order to verify the functions of the proposed SFC, a hardware prototype is established. Experimental results verify that the performance of the proposed SFC is as expected.

Republic of China’s Decision-Making Process in Regards to Drawing a U-shaped Line on the Map of the South China Sea and Its Implications

        Hurng-Yu Chen 인하대학교 국제관계연구소 2016 Pacific Focus Vol.31 No.2

When the government of the Republic of China drew a U-shaped line around the islands on a map of the South China Sea in 1947, the decision-makers were only referring to the islands within this line. Because the Republic of China held just 3 nautical miles of territorial waters, they could not possibly be thinking of including the sea areas within this U-shaped line. However, with the development of the international Law of the Sea, especially the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, heated discussions arose around the legal status of this U-shaped line. It had been regarded as the islands’ attribution line, a historic waters line, a historical rights line, and a state boundary line. This article uses official archives to trace the original thinking of these decision-makers and to infer the meaning of this U-shaped line.

A Buck-Boost Type Charger with a Switched Capacitor Circuit

        Jinn-Chang Wu,Hurng-Liahng Jou,Jie-Hao Tsai 전력전자학회 2015 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.15 No.1

In this paper, a buck-boost type battery charger is developed for charging battery set with a lower voltage. This battery charger is configured by a rectifier circuit, an integrated boost/buck power converter and a switched capacitors circuit. A boost power converter and a buck power converter sharing a common power electronic switch are integrated to form the integrated boost/buck power converter. By controlling the common power electronic switch, the battery charger performs a hybrid constant-current/constant-voltage charging method and gets a high input power factor. Accordingly, both the power circuit and the control circuit of the developed battery charger are simplified. The switched capacitors circuit is applied to be the output of the boost converter and the input of the buck converter. The switched capacitors circuit can change its voltage according to the utility voltage so as to reduce the step-up voltage gain of the boost converter when the utility voltage is small. Hence, the power efficiency of a buck-boost type battery charger can be improved. Moreover, the step-down voltage gain of the buck power converter is reduced to increase the controllable range of the duty ratio for the common power electronic switch. A prototype is developed and tested to verify the performance of the proposed battery charger.

Effects of Caponization on Bone Characteristics and Histological Structure in Chickens

        Kuo-Lung Chen,Ming-Huang Chang,Shiow-Min Tsay,Huaang-Youh Hurng,Peter Wen-Shyg Chiou 아세아·태평양축산학회 2006 Animal Bioscience Vol.19 No.2

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of caponization on the bone characteristics, biomechanical property and histology in Taiwan country chickens fed to market age of 26 wks. Male Taiwan country chickens D횞L2 were caponized or shamoperated at 8 wks of age, and selected healthy sham-operated and completely caponized chickens (prominent degenerated comb) were selected at 16 wks old and fed to 26 wks old for the trials. Fifteen intact male chickens (Intact), sham-operated chickens (Sham) and caponized chickens (Capon) were assigned for trial 1, and sixteen Intact and Capon were assigned for trial 2. Results in trial 1 showed that the abdominal fat and relative abdominal fat weights of Capon were significantly heavier than Intact and Sham (p<0.05), while the tibia weight and relative weight were the lightest (p<0.05). The tibia breaking strength, bending moment and stress of Capon were the poorest among groups (p<0.05). The trial 2 produced the similar observation that Capon were significantly lighter than Intact (p<0.05) in the tibia weight, relative tibia weight and their biomechanical properties. On histological determinations, Capon showed a thinner cartilage end and fewer chondrocytes (about 50%) and trabecular, and bigger marrow cavity; while decreased hemopoietic cells number with increased adipocytes than Intact observed by H&E stain and at low magnification. At high magnification, Capon showed a decrease in the chondrocyte size by 33 to 50%, with smaller nucleus located near the cell membrane, and exhibited monocellular form chondrocytes. Capon also showed a less strongly acidic sulfated mucosubstance with weaker dyeing property within cartilage zone, and smaller chondrocytes size by Alcian blue stain.
