Background: Effects of the major ginsenoside Rg1 on mammalian longevity and physical vitality are rarely reported. Purpose: To examine longevity, tumor, and spontaneous locomotor activity in rats consuming Rg1. Methods: A total of 138 Wistar rats were randomized into 2 groups: control (N = 69) and Rg1 (N = 69). Rg1 (0.1 mg/kg per day) were orally supplemented from 6 months of age until natural death. Spontaneous mobility was measured by video-tracking together with body composition (dual energy x-ray absorptiometry) and inflammation markers at 5, 14, 21, and 28 months of age. Results: No significant differences in longevity (control: 706 days; Rg1: 651 days, p = 0.77) and tumor incidence (control: 19%; Rg1: 12%, p = 0.24) were observed between the two groups. Movement distance in the control group declined significantly by ~60% at 21 months of age, together with decreased TNF-α (p = 0.01) and increased IL-10 (p = 0.02). However, the movement distance in the Rg1 group was maintained ~50% above the control groups (p = 0.01) at 21 months of age with greater magnitudes of TNF-α decreases and IL-10 increases. Glucose, insulin, and body composition (bone, muscle and fat percentages) were similar for both groups during the entire observation period. Conclusion: The results of the study suggest a delay age-dependent decline in physical vitality during late life by lifelong Rg1 consumption. This improvement is associated with inflammatory modulation. Significant effects of Rg1 on longevity and tumorigenesis were not observed.
Fatigue Analysis of Lower Limb Muscle Group Using Elliptical Machine with Constant Loading
( Li-cheng Hsieh ),( Ching-chia Hsieh ) 한국농업기계학회 2018 한국농업기계학회 학술발표논문집 Vol.23 No.1
The elliptical machine or trainer is one of the most popular sports equipment for cardiorespiratory fitness training. In recent years, it is widely used in the family and the gymnasium in Taiwan. Therefore, it is necessary for further discussion about the movements of the elliptical machine, and various levels of the lower-limb muscular fatigue using the elliptical machine in various strengths. The research collected the electromyography (EMG) signal of lower limb muscles, and used the commercially available software to analyze the possible timing that the fatigue appeared. The research applied this system to analyze the lower-limb muscular fatigue when using the elliptical machine with a constant resistance. It compiled the relevant literature, developed the experimental methods and analyzed the results. The subjects of this research arranged ten young people who used elliptical trainer for the first time. They carried the EMG and pedaled in a nature way. Then, Fourier transform was applied for all collected data, and the median frequency was calculated from 80% of the maximum value of the mild fatigue. The result showed that 60% of subject’s rectus muscle had been fatigued first. As a result, when using the elliptical trainer, it was much easier to use the muscles of the front thigh and get tired. Most of the fatigue occurred from overusing the lower limb muscle. By understanding the biomechanics of the elliptical trainer, it could avoid or reduce the fatigue and injuries during exercise. The system can analyze the fatigue timing as well. The fatigue analysis results would help the elliptical machine users avoid injuries, and increasing the efficiency of elliptical training.
OBSERVATIONAL AND DYNAMICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF MAIN-BELT COMET P/2010 R2 (La Sagra)

<P>We present observations of the recently discovered comet-like main-belt object P/2010 R2 (La Sagra) obtained by Pan-STARRS1 and the Faulkes Telescope-North on Haleakala in Hawaii, the University of Hawaii 2.2 m, Gemini-North, and Keck I telescopes on Mauna Kea, the Danish 1.54 m telescope (operated by the MiNDSTEp consortium) at La Silla, and the Isaac Newton Telescope on La Palma. An antisolar dust tail is observed to be present from 2010 August through 2011 February, while a dust trail aligned with the object's orbit plane is also observed from 2010 December through 2011 August. Assuming typical phase darkening behavior, P/La Sagra is seen to increase in brightness by >1 mag between 2010 August and December, suggesting that dust production is ongoing over this period. These results strongly suggest that the observed activity is cometary in nature (i.e., driven by the sublimation of volatile material), and that P/La Sagra is therefore the most recent main-belt comet to be discovered. We find an approximate absolute magnitude for the nucleus of HR = 17.9 ± 0.2 mag, corresponding to a nucleus radius of ~0.7 km, assuming an albedo of p = 0.05. Comparing the observed scattering surface areas of the dust coma to that of the nucleus when P/La Sagra was active, we find dust-to-nucleus area ratios of Ad/AN = 30-60, comparable to those computed for fellow main-belt comets 238P/Read and P/2008 R1 (Garradd), and one to two orders of magnitude larger than for two other main-belt comets (133P/Elst-Pizarro and 176P/LINEAR). Using optical spectroscopy to search for CN emission, we do not detect any conclusive evidence of sublimation products (i.e., gas emission), finding an upper limit CN production rate of QCN < 6 × 1023 mol s–1, from which we infer an H2O production rate of <img SRC='http://ej.iop.org/images/1538-3881/143/5/104/aj423523ieqn1.gif' ALIGN='MIDDLE' ALT='$Q_{\rm H_2O}\,{<}\,10^{26}$'/> mol s–1. Numerical simulations indicate that P/La Sagra is dynamically stable for >100 Myr, suggesting that it is likely native to its current location and that its composition is likely representative of other objects in the same region of the main belt, though the relatively close proximity of the 13:6 mean-motion resonance with Jupiter and the (3,–2,–1) three-body mean-motion resonance with Jupiter and Saturn mean that dynamical instability on larger timescales cannot be ruled out.</P>
Effect of Vacuum Brazing on Corrosion Resistance of SAF 2205 and Superdex 64 Duplex Stainless Steel
Hsieh, Wen-Chin,Chiu, Liu-Ho,Ling, Yi-Chun 한국부식방식학회 2002 Corrosion Science and Technology Vol.31 No.2
Duplex stainless steel has a combination of better mechanical strength and pitting corrosion resistance, but the precipitated brittle phase as б phase formed during the cooling from the welding procedure will rapidly degrade its properties. In order to avoid the precipitation of secondary phases in the welds, the effect of vacuum brazing on the properties of the welds of UNS S31803 (SAF 2205) and UNS S31200 (SuperDux64) duplex stainless steels has been investigated. Three fillers, such as copper foil, BNi-3 and BNi-7 Ni-based alloy, were used to evaluate the influence of chemical composition on the corrosion resistance. In air quench, a cooling rate of 0.85℃/s and the precipitation of б phase can be inhibited for those studied duplex stainless steels. Under the quenched state, the weight loss of UNS S31803 DSS dipped in 6%FeCl₃ solution at 45℃ for 24 hours is low. However, the precipitation of a phase in UNS S31803 was increased as the cooling rate decreased. When the cooling rate was decreased to 0.067℃/s, the weight loss of UNS S31803 was increased. Owing to the compositional difference between the filler and duplex stainless steel, the selective corrosion occurred at the interface of brazed joints soaked in 6% FeCl₃ solution for 24 hours.

Objective: The study developed mushroom stalk residues as feed additives in the broiler diet for improving the growth performance and immunity of broilers as well as to increase the value of mushroom stalk residues. Methods: In total, 300 ROSS 308 broilers were randomly allocated into fifteen pens with five dietary treatments: i) control, basal diet; ii) CMWM, supplemented with 1% Cordyceps militaris waster medium (CM); iii) CMPE, supplemented with 0.5% CM+0.5% Pleurotus eryngii stalk residue (PE); iv) CMPS, supplemented with 0.5% CM+0.5% Pleurotus sajorcaju stalk residue (PS); v) CMFV, supplemented with 0.5% CM+0.5% Fammulina velutipes stalk residue (FV). Results: The chemical analysis results showed that CM extracts, PE extracts, PS extracts, and FV extracts contain functional components such as polysaccharides and phenols and have both 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate scavenging and Ferrous scavenging capacities. The group CMWM saw increased body weight gain and feed conversion rate and the promotion of jejunum villus growth, but there is no significant difference in the intestinal bacteria phase. Antioxidant genes in the nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (Nrf2)- antioxidant responsive element pathway among the groups are significantly higher than that of the control group, especially in group CMWM. Conclusion: The mushroom stalk residues have antioxidant functional components, can improve the intestinal health and body weight gain of chickens, and can activate the antioxidant pathway of Nrf2 to increase the heme oxygenase-1 expression. The treatment with 1% CM was the most promising as a feed additive.

Hsieh Ming-Hong,Ju Po-Chung,Chiou Jeng-Yuan,Wang Yu-Hsun,Wang Jong-Yi,Chang Cheng-Chen 대한신경정신의학회 2022 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.19 No.10
Objective Although both partners of a married couple can have mental disorders, the concordant and cross-concordant categories of disorders in couples remain unclear. Using national psychiatric population-based data only from patients with mental disorders, we examined married couples with mental disorders to examine spousal concordance and cross-disorder concordance across the full spectrum of mental disorders. Methods Data from the 1997 to 2012 Taiwan Psychiatric Inpatient Medical Claims data set were used and a total of 662 married couples were obtained. Concordance of mental disorders was determined if both spouses were diagnosed with mental disorder of an identical category in the International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification; otherwise, cross-concordance was reported. Results According to Cohen’s kappa coefficient, the most concordant mental disorder in couples was substance use disorder, followed by bipolar disorder. Depressive and anxiety disorders were the most common cross-concordant mental disorders, followed by bipolar disorder. The prevalence of the spousal concordance of mental disorders differed by monthly income and the couple’s age disparity. Conclusion Evidence of spousal concordance and cross-concordance for mental disorders may highlight the necessity of understanding the social context of marriage in the etiology of mental illness. Identifying the risk factors from a common environment attributable to mental disorders may enhance public health strategies to prevent and improve chronic mental illness of married couples.
