        ORiginal Article : Gastroprotective Effects of PMK-S005 against Ethanol-Induced Acute Gastric Damage in Rats

        Background/Aims: This study aimed to examine the gastroprotective effects of PMK-S005, which is a synthetic S-allyl-Lcysteine (SAC; a sulfur-containing amino acid), against acute ethanol-induced gastric damage in rats. Methods: Sprague- Dawley rats were divided into six groups, including a nonethanol group, groups treated with absolute ethanol 1 hour after pretreatment with various doses of PMK-S005 (1, 5, and 10 mg/kg) or rebamipide (50 mg/kg), and an absolute ethanolonly group. Ethanol-induced gross ulcer and mucus levels were measured. Myeloperoxidase, tumor necrosis factor a, interleukin 1β, PGE2, LTB4, cPLA2, COX-1, and COX-2 levels were estimated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay or Western blot analysis. Furthermore, the protein expression levels of antioxidant enzymes, including heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), NAD(P)H:quinine oxidoreductase 1 (NQO-1), GCLC, and GCLM, were assessed. Results: PMK-S005 significantly attenuated the ethanol-induced gastric damage; it reduced mucosal inflammatory cytokine production and increased mucus levels. The expression levels of cPLA2, COX-1, and COX-2 were decreased by PMK-S005. PMK-S005 did not affect PGE2 synthesis, but LTB4 production was significantly suppressed. In addition, long-term administration of PMKS005 significantly increased the expression of HO-1, NQO-1, GCLC, and GCLM. Conclusions: These results strongly suggest that PMK-S005 prevents gastric mucosal damage and that these gastroprotective activities are due to anti-inflammatory effects and enhancement of the gastric defense system, including antioxidant enzymes.         This study was made to provide boxing players with fundamental references for their performance enhancement, based on the research out of Yong In university boxing team, of which 30 players had been chosen, to find out the correlated performance reinforcement and enhancement right before their competitions(5 days before, 3 days before, 30 minutes before) with their years of boxing career(less than 4 years, 5 or 6 years, more than 7 years) and with their performance levels(superior level, inferior level). Analysing tool to verify the hypothesis of this study was the sports' competition analysis inspection method(CSAI-2) with the statistic program(SPSS) utilized and the repeated variance method was taken to get the degree of instability by the performance careers, the performance levels and the left times before competition. The repeated methode was applied to verify the results with the statistical difference allowed by 5%. Conclusions resulted from the above mentioned research are as follows; 1. In terms with the players' technical performance level, the inferior players had more cognitional anxiety than the superior players with some statistically significant difference. 2. In terms with the players' physical instability, the inferior players had more anxiety than the superior players with no statistically significant difference. 3. In terms with the players' technical performance level, the superior players had more self-confidence than the inferior players with no statistically significant difference. 4. In terms with the years of experience, cognitional anxiety was found most severely among the college boxing players of less than 4 years' career with some statistically significant difference. 5. In terms with the years of experience, physical anxiety was found most severely among the college boxing players of less than 4 years' career with no statistically significant difference. 6. In terms with the years of experience, the highest self- confidence was found among the college boxing players of 5 or 6 years' career with no statistically significant difference.

        Effects of 17β-estradiol on colorectal cancer development after azoxymethane/dextran sulfate sodium treatment of ovariectomized mice

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Estrogen is known to have a protective effect in colorectal cancer (CRC) development. Previously, we reported the anti-inflammatory and antitumorigenic effects of 17β-estradiol (E2) in azoxymethane (AOM)/dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-treated male mice. The aim of this study was to investigate whether ovariectomy in a female AOM/DSS mouse model increases colorectal tumorigenesis and whether tumorigenesis is reduced by estrogen supplementation after ovariectomy. Clinical symptoms and histological severity of colitis and the levels of inflammatory mediators were evaluated in the colon of AOM/DSS-treated ovariectomized (OVX) mice. The levels of E2, myeloperoxidase (MPO), and NF-κB-dependent cytokines (interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-6) were measured by ELISA. Furthermore, quantitative real-time (qRT) PCR and Western blot analysis were performed. Ovariectomy did not aggravate AOM/DSS-induced colitis at 2 weeks. At weeks 10 and 16, ovariectomy significantly increased tumor number and incidence rate in only the proximal colon after AOM/DSS treatment (F_AOM/DSS vs OVX_AOM/DSS), and these increases were significantly reduced by E2 supplementation (OVX_AOM/DSS vs OVX_AOM/DSS/E2). However, ovariectomy did not affect CRC development in the distal colon (F_AOM/DSS vs OVX_AOM/DSS). At week 2, E2 administration to AOM/DSS-treated OVX mice attenuated the histological severity of colitis by decreasing the protein and/or mRNA levels of estrogen receptor alpha (ERα) and NF-κB-related mediators (i.e., COX-2, TNF-α, and IL-6) and by enhancing estrogen receptor beta (ERβ) and nuclear Nrf2 protein expression and the mRNA expression of related antioxidant enzyme genes (i.e., HO-1, GCLC, GCLM, and NQO1). Endogenous estrogen in females protects against the development of proximal colon cancer, and exogenous E2 replacement in OVX female mice showed protective effects against AOM/DSS-induced colitis and carcinogenesis.         Thin Film (La<sub>0.7</sub>Sr<sub>0.3</sub>)<sub>0.95</sub>MnO<sub>3-δ</sub> Fabricated by Pulsed Laser Deposition and Its Application as a Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Cathode for Low-Temperature Operation

        The feasibility of using the thin film technology in utilizing lanthanum strontium manganite (LSM) for a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) cathode in a low-temperature regime is investigated in this study. Thin film LSM cathodes were fabricated using pulsed laser deposition (PLD) on anode-supported SOFCs with yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) electrolytes. Although cells with a 1 ${\mu}m$-thick LSM cathode showed poor low-temperature cell performance compared to that of a cell with a bulk-processed cathode due to the lack of a triple-phase boundary length, the cell with 200 nm-thick gadolinia-doped ceria (GDC) inserted between the LSM and YSZ showed enhanced performance and more stable operation characteristics in a comparison of a cell without a GDC layer. We postulate that the GDC layer likely improved the cathode adhesion, therefore contributing to the improvement of the cell performance instead of serving as an interfacial reaction buffer.

        삼상유동층 공정에서 수력학적 Similarity 해석

        삼상유동층에서 수력학적 유사성을 규모인자(scaling factor)를 이용하여 해석하였다. 규모인자는 직경이 다른 두 종류의 삼상유동층간의 기체, 액체, 그리고 고체입자의 체류량과 단위면적당 유효부피흐름속도를 기준으로 정의하였다. 두 종류 삼상유동층의 직경은 각각 0.102 m와 0.152 m이었다. 여과된 압축공기, 물 그리고 밀도가 2,500 kg/m3인 유리구슬을 각각 기체, 액체 그리고 유동고체입자로 사용하였다. 각 삼상유동층에서 각 상들의 체류량은 정압강하법에의해 결정하였다. 기체 및 액체의 유속 그리고 고체유동입자의 크기가 각 상들을 기준으로한 규모인자와 유효부피흐름 속도를 기준으로한 규모인자에 미치는 영향을 검토하였다. 직경이 다른 두 삼상유동층에서 기체 체류량의 편차는 기체와 액체의 유속이 증가함에 따라 감소하였으나 유동입자의 크기가 증가함에 따라 증가하였다. 직경이 다른 두 종류 삼상유동층에서 액체 체류량 편차는 기체와 액체 그리고 고체유동입자의 크기가 증가함에 따라 감소하였다. 두 종류 삼상유동층에서 고체입자 체류량 편차는 기체유속과 유동입자의 크기가 증가함에 따라 증가하였으나 액체의 유속이 증가함에 따라 감소하였다. 직경이 다른 두 종류 삼상유동층에서 유효부피흐름속도를 매개로 한 규모인자는 기체유속과 유동입자의 크기가 증가함에 따라 감소하였으나 액체의 유속이 증가함에 따라 증가하였다. 본 연구에서 정의된 규모인자는 삼상유동층 공정의 수력학적 유사성을 해석하는데 효과적으로 사용될 수 있었다. Hydrodynamic similarity was analyzed by employing scaling factor in three phase fluidized beds. The scaling factor was defined based on the holdups of gas, liquid and solid particles and effectivity volumetric flux of fluids between the two kinds of fluidized beds with different column diameter. The column diameter of one was 0.102 m and that of the other was 0.152 m. Filtered compressed air, tap water and glass bead of which density was 2,500 kg/m3 were used as gas, liquid and solid phases, respectively. The individual phase holdups in three phase fluidized beds were determined by means of static pressure drop method. Effects of gas and liquid velocities and particle size on the scaling factors based on the holdups of each phase and effective volumetric flux of fluids were examined. The deviation of gas holdup between the two kinds of three phase fluidized beds decreased with increasing gas or liquid velocity but increased with increasing fluidized particle size. The deviation of liquid holdup between the two fluidized beds decreased with increasing gas or liquid velocity or size of fluidized solid particles. The deviation of solid holdup between the two fluidized beds increased with increasing gas velocity or particle size, however, decreased with increasing liquid velocity. The deviation of effective volumetric flux of fluids between the two fluidized beds decreased with increasing gas velocity or particle size, but increased with increasing liquid velocity. The scaling factor, which was defined in this study, could be effectively used to analyze the hydrodynamic similarity in three phase fluidized processes.

        실리콘 표면에 증착된 다공성 알루미나의 수분 흡착 거동

        게터는 반도체와 초소형 전자패키지 소자 내부의 수소와 수증기 같은 기체를 흡착하여 기기 작동 시 방해 기체를 제거하는 기능을 한다. 본 연구에서는 재료와 공정 측면에서 높은 가격 경쟁력을 갖는 게터로, 실리콘 기판에 올라간 다 공성 알루미나 구조체를 제조하는 연구를 진행하였다. 기공의 크기가 조절된 양극산화 알루미나(AAO)는 높은 비표면 적을 가지며 표면에 OH-기를 다수 포함하므로 높은 효율을 갖는 수분 흡착제로 사용되었다. 등온 수분 흡탈착 곡선으로 분석한 수분 흡착도는 상대습도 35%일 때 2.02%로 우수한 성능을 나타내었다. 즉, 저온에서 사용가능하며, 추가 열원이 필요하지 않아 박막구조의 소형화가 용이하여 내부 손상 및 오염을 방지할 수 있는 게터재를 합성하였다. Getter is a class of materials used in absorbing gases such as hydrogen and moisture in microelectronics or semiconductor devices to operate properly. In this study, we developed a new device structure consisting of porous anodized alumina films on textured silicon wafer, which have cost efficiency in materials and processing aspects. Anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) with controlled pore sizes can be applied to a high-efficiency moisture absorber due to the high surface area and OH- saturated surface property. The moisture sorption capacity was 2.02% (RH=35%), obtained by analyzing isothermal adsorption/desorption curve.
