This paper presents a semantic scene recognition method from indoor areal time-series images obtained using a micro air vehicle (MAV). Using category maps, topologies of image features are mapped into a low-dimensional space based on competitive and neighborhood learning. The proposed method comprises two phases: a codebook feature description phase and a recognition phase using category maps. For the former phase, codebooks are created automatically as visual words using self-organizing maps (SOMs) after extracting part-based local features using a part-based descriptor from time-series scene images. For the latter phase, category maps are created using counter propagation networks (CPNs) with extraction of category boundaries using a unified distance matrix (U-Matrix). With manual MAV operation, we obtained areal time-series image datasets of five sets for two flight routes: a round flight route and a zigzag flight route. The experimentally obtained results with leave-one-out cross-validation (LOOCV) for datasets divided with 10 zones revealed respective mean recognition accuracies for the round flight datasets and zigzag flight datasets of 71.7% and 65.5%. The created category maps addressed the complexity of scenes because of segmented categories in both flight datasets.
A Viewpoint for Reenhancing Fundamentals of Manufacturing Operations
Hirokazu Kono 대한산업공학회 2008 대한산업공학회 추계학술대회논문집 Vol.2008 No.11
This paper proposes a method of analyzing and improving work in the area of industrial engineering, applying the concept of fundamental transformation, based on the recognition of importance of eliminating wastes in manufacturing operations. The paper also applies the proposed method to improvement of indirect work operations. Furthermore, it clarifies that the concept of fundamental transformation can effectively function in implementing improvement tasks in actual manufacturing organizations

This paper presents an octo-rotor unmanned air vehicle (UAV) prototype and its vision system used for nighttime visual infrastructure inspection. After developing a stereo vision system using two inexpensive night-vision cameras for obtaining depth information, we conducted a comprehensive evaluation experiment to assess its practical use, to support the design and manufacture of our prototype, to build a camera system including a dedicated camera mount, and to compare and evaluate stereo matching algorithms. The nighttime inspection yielded depth images using stereo matching algorithms of four types for nighttime aerial photography of parallax images. We evaluated optimal stereo matching for nighttime aerial photographs. The experimentally obtained results revealed that the contrast between structure outlines and depth information was extracted clearly for the highest accuracy stereo matching result. Results show that our system concept can open up a new field of inspecting structures using nighttime aerial photography.
Analysis of the Nodal Structure for a Nonintegrable Two-Dimensional Quartic Oscillator
Hirokazu Aiba,Toru Suzuki 한국물리학회 2007 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.50 No.1I
We extend studies of the nodal structure in quantum-mechanical wave functions to a twodimensional quartic oscillator and investigate the transition from integrable to chaotic dynamics. We find that the number of nodal domains is drastically reduced as the dynamics of the system changes from integrable to nonintegrable and then gradually increases as the system becomes chaotic. We also calculate the area distribution of nodal domains and study the emergence of a power-law behavior with a Fisher exponent in the chaotic limit.
Observation of Multiple Vortex-Flow Branches in Bi2Sr2CaCu2Oy Intrinsic Josephson Junctions
Hirokazu Kaneoya,Akinobu Irie,Gin-ichiro Oya 한국물리학회 2006 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.48 No.5I
We experimentally studied Josephson-vortex dynamics in Bi2Sr2CaCu2Oy intrinsic Josephson junctions (IJJs). The current-voltage (I-V ) characteristics of stacks of IJJs with a length of less than ten micrometers were measured in the presence and the absence of a magnetic .eld B up to 5 T parallel to the junction layers at 4.2 K. We observed a collective vortex-°ow behavior for the Josephson vortices and a splitting of the vortex-°ow branch into multiple branches at relatively high magnetic .elds. The voltage positions of the sub-branches were found to correspond to the characteristic velocities predicted by using the inductive-coupling model. Therefore, the observed multiple sub-branches could be interpreted as being due to a mode change in the collective Josephson vortex °ow.
Unrestrained Sensors Using Piezoelectric Elements for Bed-Leaving Prediction
Hirokazu Madokoro,Nobuhiro Shimoi,Kazuhito Sato 제어로봇시스템학회 2013 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2013 No.10
This paper presents a sensor system that predicts behavior patterns that occur when a patient leaves a bed. We originally developed plate-shaped sensors using piezoelectric elements. Existing sensors such as clip sensors and mat sensors require that patients be restrained. The features of our sensors are that they require no power supply or patient restraint for privacy problems. Moreover, we developed machine-learning algorithms to predict behavior patterns without setting thresholds. We evaluated our system for three subjects at an experimental environment constructed in reference to a clinical site. The mean recognition accuracy was 78.6% for seven behavior patterns. Especially, the recognition accuracies of lateral sitting and terminal sitting were each 94.4%. We consider that these capabilities are useful for bed-leaving prediction in practical use.
Safer Zone Analysis for Multiple Investment Alternatives on the Total-Cost Unit-Cost Domain
Hirokazu Kono 대한산업공학회 2012 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.11 No.1
Along with the recent trend toward increasing variety and shorter life of products in the market, evaluation of risk for economic investment alternatives is of practical importance in manufacturing companies. This paper assumes that each alternative is composed of demand volume and unit sales price as income factors, and unit variable cost and fixed cost as expense factors. The paper assumes that these four factors move worse from the originally expected values, toward the direction of decreasing profit. Values of these four factors are also assumed to fluctuate from year to year over the entire multi-period. By applying the analysis of the breakeven points to each of the four factors, safer area against these changes is represented on the two dimensional domain called normalized total-cost unit-cost domain. A practical numerical example is analyzed to verify the validity of the proposed method.
